- Fighting Games will sometimes employ a guest character from another franchise, whether the guest is from a video game or somewhere completely different. I'm making two videos on this topic to find the most notable ones the both fit in nicely or stuck out more than they should have. This is the list with the more outlandish choices that may have still been fun to play, yet were not the greatest fits with the universe. It's funny how outdated this video and its followup got in just a year and a half between TMNT in Injustice, Noctis in Tekken, and Mai Shiranui appearing in DOA.

I feel kratos belongs in MK. He's easily more brutal than every MK character.
Also kratos can get around 60% with bar. Which is stupid. He asks I has a parry that goes through projectiles and hits and it's can launch when projectiles are parried. Then the parried hit stuns enough to get a lot of damage.

Agreed. I thought Kratos appearing in a Soul Calibur game was more strange than him appearing in a MK game.
@@KushyCouch I agree with all of these except Kratos. I mean yes he was slow, and very underpowered compared to the rest of the MK9 roster but that's because it's a fighting game. They have to do it for balancing issues. Otherwise if they use guest characters at their full power they'd either be massively underpowered or too overpowered and Kratos is no exception. I mean think about it if they used his power level from the god of war games he would destroy the entire MK (and Soul Calibur) roster.

too animated and cartoonish, plus they didn't have the rights to him. KI focuses on very gritty, monster like characters...most of the characters are either humans with powers or monsters...most of them fairly stereotyped. werewolf, alien, skeleton pirate, cyborg, mummy like sorcerer, vampire...i'm surpised they didn't give us a couple of new characters that wasn't an elf and an ork to be honest. oh and Tusk is a barbarian who lives forever...he can be killed but he doesn't age (hence why he is 10,000 years old). KI has always been very bloody and dark...a animated character wouldn't fit.
@@IDyce88 Conker's Bad Fur Day is very dark and bloody, just with more cartoon like graphics. So I can understand that his appearance wouldn't fit too well in KI.
I actually like this idea despite Conker's cartoonish appearance.
What probably would've sold Nicole-458 in the DoA-verse is if she appeared in Dead or Alive: Xtreme 2. Make her wear a swimsuit but keep the Spartan helmet. Or better yet let her wear all of the armor with a bikini over it. XD

None of these are as weird as the Hudson from Daytona USA in Fighters Megamix. It's literally just a regular race car that punches people with its tires.
I always looked at him as a joke character, but I never considered him a guest until now. Yeah, that was definitely a weird choice. It was akin to Pepsiman being in Fighting Vipers, only weirder.

Let's not forget Kratos was in Soul Caliber Broken Destiny on the PSP, though he arguably fits in better there than in Mortal Kombat it was still kinda weird.

Agreed, he also forgot the type of people and monsters that fight in MK. They aren't normal people, they all have powers and abilities like Kratos except for Stryker. Even Mokap has special abilities.
reptile uses acid that melts stuff, he uses it as a range attack and should melt people if it hits them but its MK if that happens that would be instant K.O and would be boring.

Samus Aran seems to be, by far, the most toned down character in fighting games. Plasma beam, ice beam, wave beam, speed booster, screw attack, powerbombs, nearly invulnerable in gravity suit and varia suit, can basically fly in gravity suit...
In SSB they make Samus a medium heavy/medium slow character for balance, but in reality she is a very heavy, very fast character. She was toned way down to fit in.

Rash and the rest of the Battletoads appeared as Guest characters in Shovel Knight where they train the main character in stages that resemble their classic game.

Y'know funny enough I find the Arbiter and Raam fit in even less than Rash did, at least Rash was outlandish and bizarre enough to stand out in a roster filled to the brim with outlandish and bizarre freaks, the other two funny enough felt too.......normal XD
Yeah, I see that. I agree on Raam. He felt boring and bland. Arbiter I liked since he was a humanoid alien, which fit in with the aesthetic to me. I could imagine him as a solider from another dimension since we have lots of characters from other dimensions in KI. If I had known Raam was coming out when I made this video, I may have put him on the list over Rash since at least Rash has a personality.
Only thing that bothers me about Arbiter is the fact Master Chief might not come until next season, that is if there will be another season. RAAM on the other hand, the dude shanks people and gets some pretty good combos, and honestly his inclusion really starts to grow on ya after stabbing everyone on the roster through the sternum.

It wasn't a cartoony sound it's what a granade launcher sounds like

+Ric Pendragon Since I'm always up for improving, which parts of the video seemed poorly researched? I'm aware the rocket launcher part and Toshinden pronunciation was wrong and my side comment on Rash's cameo, which was more a last second joke. However, I checked my sources for most parts, so I'm interested to see what was wrong or unclear.
it's mostly little errors, the overall facts are spot on, but pronunciations and little things like the Snake grenade launcher and such are the main issues. But don't take it to heart, even pros can make little mistakes.

Kratos was totally at home in the MK series. This was a great list, even with a couple self-contradictions. The only other character I could think of for a list like this would be Heihachi's appearance in Soul Calibur 2. While he isn't strange in the aesthetic sense, it is strange for him - as a hand-to-hand-specific character - to be in a weapons-based fighting game.
i've got one fighting game that some may have heard of, but it doesn't get like any attention on the net. Onimusha Blade Warriors on PS2. as we all know, Onimusha is pretty much a demon/horror themed hack n slash placed in feudal japan era. but in the spinoff Blade Warriors, it becomes a 2.5D fighting game that uses the main games' mechanics. now as for the guest characters. given the series is owned by Capcom, it seemed fitting to have Capcom characters as guest characters. but for who they chose, it was MegaMan.EXE and Zero (GBA version) mixing it up with samurai and demons. even though it seems weird to have these 2 as guests, they actually played pretty well. i thoroughly enjoy playing as Zero and getting his stats boosted to dominate the field

Actually, just remove the controls from Vader's chest and turn the light sabers into normal-looking swords and the Star Wars characters would fit in really well with the Soul series, given their blatant samurai-movie inspired designed. Also: Magic swords. If the weapons in the Soul series weren't magic, I think Soul Edge would just kinda eat them.
Kratos was pretty ideal for Mortal Kombat. Yea, in his own game he may have killed a bunch of Gods, but the application to even join Mortal Kombat involves a few God Slaying.
Kratos is like an great regional sports player, who is amazing in his neighborhood so he got scouted to play in a college level. Now is discovering how he isn't as good as he thought he was.
I like this analogy! While I'll still stick with what I said, I like to think of MK humans as stronger than a Greek God.
While some of these guys, like Earthworm Jim, are totally worthy of this list, guys like Rash are a great addition to a game that is made by Rare, and I would like more characters like him in the game!
Megaman.EXE in Onimusha Blade Warriors is one that comes to mind. And I dunno I you count this as a fighting game, but the Super Punch Out version of Little Mac is unlockable in the GameCube version of boxing title Fight Night
Just an observation, most lightsabers are broken in every game they are in. They don't actually cut through anything or anyone. So keeping with lightsabers from other games, they work just fine haha

Oh and I have something to add to the Rash thing. There were people that actually wanted Rash in the game for a while. Ever since the game was released. It was to the point where they were making fake images and teasers for the character. I was very surprised when he made it into the game after all my disbelief of his mention from the fanbase. I'm pretty sure nobody saw it coming.
Rash was a nice addition to Killer Instinct if I may say so myself despite not usually being in favor of guest characters. Rash is goofy but oddly I think he does fit somewhat within the KI universe cause despite it's dark tone and nature there are very lighthearted elements to the game in fact the Battletoad Arcade game was actually pretty violent and even more so than KI.
I think if she actually made it into the game, Zone-Tan being playable in Skullgirls would've been an obvious choice for the list, especially when you realize the character is mascot/persona of someone who makes pornographic flash animations of cartoon and anime characters.Sadly she didn't make it in but their are remnants of her around the Internet of what she would look like and how she would play around the web. Hell she even made a cameo in the fukua trailer as one of the characters braindrain rejected for being "too lewd". Even one of squiggly's pallet swaps references the character. The more you know.

The Battletoads are just the avatars of the game designers. The official story is the main villain the Dark Queen transported them into the game and they took the form of their avatars. It only makes sense that Rash looks the way he does because they could jump to other games if they want.
Here's my argument for Rash.
Killer Instinct's characters are generally inspired by various tropes and other characters in other mediums in parody form. You have Fulgore who is practically a Terminator/Predator/Robocop hybrid, Cinder is just a more sadistic Human Torch, TJ Combo looked like Apollo Creed and Sabrewulf needs no explanation.
Rash I think fits this perfectly because his series was often seen as a Ninja Turtles parody so in that sense I think Rash fits perfectly.
He is still an oddball character when you put him next to everyone else, but to me that's not much different from say, a boxer getting into a fight with a mummy, Killer Instinct is boarderline Saturday Morning cartoon when you think on it and that's not a bad thing in fact it's one of the reasons I love KI.

Snake's "gun" in Smash Brawl is actually a grenade launcher, it's not as cartoony sounding as you may think.
Ralph and Clark from KOF come to mind, only because I never realized they were the same Ralph and Clark from Ikari Warriors games on NES.

I would say Cloud is more out of place in Smash Bros. than Snake. Though they appeared on other platforms; the Metal Gear series can, at least, be argued to have gained it's familiarity in gaming culture through the NES games. Cloud, on the other hand, got his origin on a Sony platform because Square didn't want to work with the limitations of the N64.
Has Cloud even appeared on a Nintendo system prior to Smash? I mean other than GBA Kingdom Hearts and bit parts in ports of FF Tactics, which he was just a guest character in?
Also, while Kratos's does seem out of place, the characters in Mortal Kombat kill gods all the time. Shinnok and Raiden are both playable gods in MK. So it does make sense that Kratos's weapons would be normal in a universe where Johnny Cage can take a spear to the heart and still go on to kill a god with a punches and kicks.
I can respect that analysis. Cloud actually fit a bit more compared to Snake to me on the fact that he fit the tone of Smash Bros with all the fantasy elements of Fire Emblem and Legend of Zelda. He fits if you look at him as a "pure guest," as in a character unrelated to anything Nintendo. As a legitimate inclusion in Smash Bros under the credentials of being an important character in Nintendo's history, he doesn't work, though. As for the MK stuff, that's good logic. I always saw Shinnok or Raiden as downgrading the power of their weapons to gain their mortal forms, but that's just how I looked at it. I never was clearly stated, so I could be wrong on that.

No, they did downgrade. Raiden willfully did so in order to compete and Shinnok is a fallen god. But the gods in God of War do similar things while staying immensely powerful. Plus Shinnok is supposed to have all his godly powers when he has his amulet as he does at the end of MKX.

The reason I don't find Yoda, Vader, or Galen Marek out of place is because the basis for these characters are medieval-esque futuristic beings. Vader's initial design is even based off of that of Shogun Samurai armour. Also, Star Killer isn't canon to Star Wars.

Tony Smith He totally used to be canon. I don't mind the new Disney canon, but some stories of the Legends continuity I do prefer.
I'm pretty sure there was a story involving the SW characters, didn't darth vader sense the power of soul edge somewhere in the universe and somehow manage to get to that time, and yoda went to stop the dark side from getting that power.

I used to LOVE playing idiot Yoda fighters in SC4. Zasalamel (or rather his moveset on my custom character) was my main and he was AWESOME at Anti-Yoda duties.
in order to understand why Kratos wasn't king shit in the MK universe you have to understand MK's story of the difference in matter vs our demension and outworlds, its quite interesting actually but hard to grasp, its the whole reason Kahn was trying so hard to merge our two realms in the previous stories, cause if he succeeded the weapons on earth would be powerless, basically shit like guns would be nothing more than a bee sting to them, hence why characters like Cassy Cage in MKX can fire entire clips at their opponent but the match still continues "yeah their IS a reason for that according to the story" its a shame most MK fans don't give a shit about the story cause its really cool, but yeah Kratos was actually a perfect guest character, a hell of a lot better than a fucking xenomorph from the Alien movies.. lol
I like the way you think! I'm also one of those MK fans who loves all the lore (it's why I actually enjoy MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero, despite the subpar game mechanics). The Kratos section was partially a joke on how Kratos would more realistically work in MK. The only truth to that segment was that I initially found him somewhat strange since they never explained how he's on the level of the other gods that downgrade their power for a human form, like Raiden or Fujin, like how the explained Freddy's presence. It wasn't meant to be such a serious-sounding segment. I've actually broken down the MK lore in other videos, like when I analyzed the relationship between Johnny Cage and Sonya in my Fighting Game Couples video or I spoke about how Outworld sunlight doesn't affect Nitara like Earthrealm sunlight in my Fighting Game Vampires video.

I think the Kratos one is less about him fitting as a character, but rather the difference in strength between the characters. I mean the MK universe has several different realms, and also has godly characters in the roster.

EveryonesKouhai while that’s accurate, even the darkest Zelda game, (in my opinion) Majora’s Mask, isn’t as dark as any Metroid (IN MY OPINION) and Fire Emblem is kinda just super unknown at the time of Brawl’s release.

20:25 I know I'm years late, but apparently the reason the Light Sabers don't just cut through people's weapons is because Earth's metals are Star Wars Durasteel (pre-disney retcons).
Glad you said Kratos instead of Freddy. I was so tired of people saying he was unfitting despite being a dream demon in a game that features hell, demons, and gods as a major part of the lore.
Kratos is far more fitting in Mortal Kombat than Freddy or Jason!(Who I also love in the MK games)
But Id argue he is extremely fitting. He's violent, he eviscerates his enemies and he deals with Gods and the supernatural. Everything Mortal Kombat revolves around.
And trying to critique Kratos being misplaced in MK because his weapons scaled down is pointless in a game that has characters surviving X-ray attacks.
I mean if your gonna argue such petty details. Then you can say his weapons haven't been leveled up yet, like they do in the the God of War games. All his weapons start off at level 0. So there you go. His scaled down weapons in Mortal Kombat explained.

Thanks a lot! While I never contacted them directly, AT needed some helped editing down the large amount of footage, so he contacted them. They helped, which meant me or AT would not have to go through hours of footage to find the right clips for the main video. He lets me know who helps and I want to give them credit, so it works! That being said, certain videos are on larger scales and need more help with footage, so the network of people varies from video to video. Also, I am much more of a Sony/Nintendo guy, but since KI was initially with Nintendo in its Rare days, I still follow it. I like the characters both old and the ones they're still creating.
one more thing, snake's final smash is not a gun that makes cartoon sounds, it's a grenade launcher and that's the sound it makes

You say Yoda and Vader didn't fit the era of soulcalibur. But remember the iconic line "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away". They might be sci-fi characters but they're still from fictional history. They just travelled across space.

Mr. Watch. I am not sure he counts as a guest character but he was never a mainstream nintendo character and most of us had never heard of him though his special move was pretty kickass.

I think Snake fit better in Brawl than in the Japan only fighting game Dream Mix TV....I mean that game's roster included Optimus Prime, Bomberman, a baseball player character and Japanese Barbie :P
Also, as out of place as he was at least Cole got to be in a good fighting game ( same for Kratos )....PS All Stars was terrible.

The funny thing I find about Rash in killer instinct is that...He is the best thing to fit the general theme of KI, unoriginality, there is no denying from people that killer instinct does not try to be original in terms of characters...so having a character literally stripped from another game? Perfect! XD
Cole was supposed to be the main PS3 mascot of sorts so I can see why he was added.
kratos was broke when he first came out. Then he got nerfed. But in the first coupleof weeks he was would just kick ass no effort.

I remember the Yoda thing XD I was always confused as to why he was in the game. And I played as him a lot because it was fun watching my older brother rage quite when he couldn't hit me.
They actually banned Yoda from fighting game tournaments for basically the same reason, so your brother wasn't alone in hating Yoda's hitbox!

Lars from Tekken in Naruto Storm 2 comes to mind, for me that is. Ironically, I want him back. Also during the time before storm 3 came out, I wanted Marshall or Forest Law (or both) in the game so I can put them against Lee and Guy.

The Kratos complaint was stupid
@Sub Saibot Agreed! Saying that Kratos is a weird guest character for MK just because they had to nerf him isn't a valid argument on why he's an unsuitable fit. Yes he was slow and very underpowered compared to the rest of the roster but that's because it's a fighting game. They have to do it for balancing reasons. If they used Krato's full power from the God of war games he would destroy the entire MK (and Soul Calibur) roster single handedly. Otherwise he's a perfect fit for the grandaddy of all violent video games.
