But some characters prove to be so weird, unpopular or tangled in licensing issues they make one appearance and are never seen again. I think the weirdest thing about Olcadan is that he's apparently pretty important to the backstory of Soul Edge and Soul Calibur. He shows up in the Soul Calibur II weapons master mode intro and he used to hang around with Edgemaster. But none of this is really mentioned, just shown and hinted at.

I actually really liked Olcadan, his fusion of Mythic Greek Hero with the Ancient Marina/Albatross head was very cool, I always wondered why he NEVER returned in any SC games after 3.

Shame about Necro. He became my main after one of my friends inexplicably got really good with Remy. Necro's poke game got me through that rough time of my life.

Damn, Necro is SO underrated. He's actually very fun to watch, and was a nice change from the usual Dhalsim/Blanka duo. I really hope one day he comes back. :(

Olcadan is strangely one of my favourite character designs.
ReaperOfBurgers my top 5 favorite characters in soul caliber 3 were kilik, talim, tira, xiangua, and olcadan.
I also like him. For me, a good fighter.
Owl Olcadan was great.
Mine too. I also like him as a "random copy fighting style" character far better than swordmaster. Olcadan is crazy awesome, while the old man is a blander-than-diet-tofu rendition of the "wise hermit master" trope.

Growing up I honestly always liked Olcadan. It was hilarious how he gestured if you failed one of his tasks in training, and I for some reason liked his design, plus that last cutscene of him dragging someone away made me laugh
They brought back Mike, as a costume for Balrog in SFV.

You're right. I was shaking my head watching this, though the only game I can agree upon appearing ONE TIME (as the title is called) is Soul Caliber 3 and Necro from Street Fighter 3. All the other games were cameo fighters. Then to say Reiko appeared in one game while Armageddon didn't count. Well- if he is (playable) in another game, then apparently that is appearing in more than one game.

Funny thing about the characters he said for SF3, most of them reappear in SFV in one way or another, Necro is in the background of a stage as said in the vid, there is a character called Eleven which is perhaps a previous model of Twelve, G may have been Q when he was younger and before he became like he is (since they share the same normal moves and a costume) and Oro is coming as DLC

He was broken as fuck though, if you turned off the damage limiter he had a 100% combo. Even with it on you had a choice of two or three 49% combos, and that weirdly fast backflip/spin kick he did was was the opener for at least one.

It has been a while since the last entry, hasn't it? What has Namco been up to - their next Ace Combat can't be taking up THAT much of their time...
I think SCV killed the series. It left the dev team with a bunch of unliked characters to work with and a story that went off the rails to appease the fans.
If ever there was a need for a Reboot... SC5 is it. Story spiralled out of control. Character roster, which was 90% replaced with second generation idiots, which no one liked... and a special mention for Patroklos and Phyrra since, yes, they were THAT bad... (I'm --still-- salty over how badly they screwed up Sophitia's moveset with Pat...) And the absence of several other movesets.... (Zasalamel was my main since 3 GDI!)
Not to mention the whole story with Elysium and the two swords makes it INCREDIBLY easy to write in a MK9-style in-universe reboot.
To be fair, I felt like the fighting was the best they'd managed since soulcalibur II. That said, it was clearly an unfinished product. The story mode was 20% of what was planned and the character select screen was littered with empty spaces. But the title didn't have strong support from Namco. They've always given preferential treatment to tekken and actually treat it like a flagship series. The time from announcement to release for soulcalibur 5 was 8 months. Compare that to three years for Tekken 7.
I have played SC 2 - 5. I would really like 6 to come out and have great customization for characters, have all the characters we want and some new ones, as well as arcade mode with story endings. I would like them to bring back Chronicles of the Sword as well which was in 3. If they did that and brought back the points system for 4's customization that let you equip skills I would be very happy. I liked Critical finishes from 4 as well, but those are not needed and neither are the super bars from five I do believe. Like, i know why the super bars are there, but I don't much care for them in Soul Calibur.
What about Amaterasu from MvC3? Double points for Capcom sitting on their arse & not giving us Okami 2.

Reiko did appear in the Mortal Kombat X companion comic where he was a prominent villain. Until he died horribly and we found out he was a pawn in someone else's plan...
Not to mention the in game lore of the Reiko Accords.

Reiko in the MK story is actually super important. In the new timeline he appears in the comics constantly and is mentioned several times in X.
To be fair, Gon was actually a really good character if you learn his moves. Reiko was too, actually, back in MK4.

there are 3 characters that are rage inducing in tekken: gon, doctor b and eddie .in that order.
@@damp2269 Doctor B was almost non playable. He just kept falling over. Eddie will forever be the cheap character of Tekken. I don't even feel bad about losing to him, he is a button mashers dream.
It's hard to bring Necro and Twelve back when the game they appeared in is the last chronological game in the series and their backgrounds are inseparably tied to a villain who only JUST reappeared and isn't even a roster character yet.

Still, Q, was the best, Necro and 12 where like a slap to pros who done SF3. I got a golden "S" all the ranks in SF3 with Elena.

A little trivia, Reiko was originally Noob Saibot. The MK team decided they didn’t have enough new characters, so they changed his colors and ditched the mask. He’s actually one of my favorites.

Reiko was brought back not in a game granted, but in the Canon MKX Comic Book Series. He even has a Treaty named after him. The Reiko Accords.

I believe in Necro's case, SFIII is actually chronologically speaking the most recent game in the franchise, taking place after SFV, so there's every chance Necro could come back. Plus, you can never really count a character out in Street Fighter anyway

Mar Hawkman nooooooo nonononono no. See, THAT'S where you're wrong. Gon "bullies" to prove he is the greateat king of all. And being a comedic unbeatable manga character like Arale, Nekomajin or Saitama, he would make Baraka know that Shao Khan is not his Khan.
The "mimic" character is often a one-off in most fighting games; since he's not really developed as an individual character from a gameplay standpoint, he often gets swapped out with some other design. Soul Calibur had Edge Master, Inferno, Charade, Olcadan, Kilik, and Elysium. Overall, I think it's pretty sad, because Olcadan was a standout as far as interesting mimics go.

I loved to troll my opponents with Gon. Everybody hated him because he was so hard to hit and they ended up taking Gon too.
Eddy and Hworang can easily go toe to toe with sweeps that combo. Buddy loved to cheat with Gon, and Hworang has an easy 4 kick combo with kick 2, iirc being a shin shot

Nicole was great! Though considering Dead or Alive ceased to be an Xbox exclusive after 4, her reappearance would've been a big surprise.

There were many games after those with one appearances. Snake only didn't appeared in one and next game after his debut. I would count him as fired from Smash Bros if he didn't appear in Smash 5 (much like Pichu)

TheDorianTube In addition to what Okat said, Smash for Wii U also has a huge competitive following, and its top 8 at EVO this past weekend was broadcast on ESPN. The series is great as both a party game and a competitive fighting game, but it's not considered FGC yet really

Namedropped in MKX, too; when Reiko did all the "I'm being manipulated by Havik and sleeping with Mileena even though I really don't want to" business in the MKX comics, it led to the MKX "Reiko Accords", basically Prime Directiveing Earthrealm and Outworld.
Also he was in MK: Armageddon which should disqualify him.

Gon is just like one-time guest characters, like Link, Spawn, Devil Jin, Darth Vader and Yoda in Soulcalibur, Ryo Sakazaki/Mr Karate in KoF, and myriad other guest characters in fighting game.
Fruit Man Ryo Sakazaki in KoF? But he is a returned in ALL KoF games since 94. Now if it was Fatal Fury, I would agree only to realize he made two appearances in that series (three if we count Kyokengen Karate appearance in Gauru Mark of the Wolves).

I loved Gon, I remember being really young and replaying Gon's ending scenario about a million times. I thought it was the funniest thing in the world for some reason. Now when I watch it I can't figure out what it was that made me laugh so much, but I do know I thoroughly enjoyed it! Lol.

I gotta say, you say Nicole 458 is recognized to be canon in the Halo universe, but the very Wiki page you flashed states her appearance in Dead or Alive 4 is not considered canon.

Has to be part of a series I guess, Fighters Megamix was more of a one-off crossover game.

You should probably do your research on Street Fighter. The reason why Necro is in Street Fighter III only is because that game takes place in the future after Street Fighter V. The timeline is Street Fighter, Street Fighter Alpha(s), Street Fighter II, Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter V, then Street Fighter III. Necro might appear later on in V because by 2020, SFV is going to have the largest number of fighters in Street Fighter history, and since SFV is before SFIII there is a huge possibility of Necro to return

Elementroar Fox got replaced by Jenny the bat and Greg and Mitsuko replaced by Stun the insect.
I always thought Jenny replaced Fox, Buzuzima replaced Greg and Stun replaced Mitsuko. As well in Bloody Roar 3 and onwards, Kohryu took the rol of the first Bakuryu (and Kenji become Bakuryu II sorta) & Uranus took the rol of the boss of the first Bloody Roar (which was the archetypal enhanced mutant form of Uriko before she became the half beast/cat). OMG, I’ve just realized that we really need a Bloody Roar V so bad 😭💔the fourth installment was pure crap

Back when couch co-op was a thing Olcadan was a great choice in 8vs8 knockout mode. I always chose him as my last fighter in a chance he would have my top favorite characters style.
Other than "Mike" and Amingo, those are some of my favorite "second choice" for favorite character in a given series. Also, Olcadan wasn't dropped for his weird design, but that the series moved away from the "Weaponmaster" character from 4 on.

Actually Amingo is also a card in SNK’s King of the Fighters
