62 and trying to stay sober for over 30 yrs. I dont keep count. Doesnt matter how many days i have. Yesterday is gone....tomorrow is not here yet. I do 1 day at a time....sometimes 1 minute at a time. I dont think about how im going to not drink this weekend . i focus on the moment im in. Can i stay sober this moment?? Yes i can. I never ever ever say im never going to drink again. Cos its dumb. No one knows. But i know i can make it 1 minute....maybe an hour....maybe the whole day. I cant beat myself up for the past. You just start putting time together. I like when asked how long i have saying today, i got today. I used keep track...mark the calender, some reason that never worked. Not a contest. Im an alcoholic, the fact i didnt drink today is something big for me.

This is absolutely correct. There is nothing dark about this at all in reality.
This is called thinking for yourself. Not following the heard.
For some (including myself) it was really hard to break off from many so-called friends. Now, that did put me in a dark place. But, I stayed sober. 7 years now.
I finally got out of my shell. I have real friends now. Ones that who actually give a sh_t about me and I reciprocate.
The drinking culture is shit. Where I live, (Michigan) it feels like you have to have a reason why your not drinking. So, be stoic and actually enjoy life.
    Peace ✌️

I have two way's of staying sober, the first is willpower and the second is the finical side side of thing's, i have saved over a £1000 since i stopped drinking and that is just over 100 day's ago! that in itself is one big incentive too stop drinking! There is no way i am EVER going down that path again! Great video as always mate.

It is sad but true that many people think it is easier to drag you down into the gloomy black pit of despair, frustration, and alcohol than to use you as an inspiration for their climb out of the gloomy black pit.
You have to be firm about saying "Sobriety is mine and I'm not going to allow you threaten it. I'm not letting anyone or anything drag me back into that horrible, gloomy black pit of despair and frustration. "

For me it was the absolute worst thing I had to ever endure. My whole life was falling apart and I didn't notice it until it was almost too late. The alcohol made me think I was invincible but it was blurring my judgement and making me do very bad things. Stuff I normally wouldn't do. I have been sober for almost 2 years. Not one drop of alcohol.

  • @IcePhixia2000

Don't be discouraged if you relapsed a few times in the past, its honestly part of the journey, it helps you assess the difference between sober and alcoholic life.... see them as test runs to help you make that final decision. Don't look at them as failures, when you look at those who is on a dark path and havent quit and relapsed once they still need to go through that learning curve, look at the fact that you have run all these experiments already and are years ahead in your quitting journey.... you have a bag of skills that you accumulated over the years and you know how to do it, its all just up to the absolute decision that you are done and content with never drinking again. Looking at past relapses as failures is just alcohols way of keeping you in the trap, see it in a different light... you needed to experiment with sober and not sober to see it for what it is, thats very hard to do when you have been drunk for decades.

When I gave up cigarettes no one asked me why, or tried to encourage me to have one. It’s funny how alcohol is so often different. Both drugs are so potentially harmful, both are addictive, both have zero benefit, but the marketing and brainwashed are so strong, some people have such a hard time if others quit. It confuses them. Why are you quitting if you’re not off the deep end? The answer is, because it’s still having a detrimental effect on my health. Once you change your way of thinking, it’s so true - you no longer feel like you’re missing out or giving up something good. Just like when I quit cigarettes, I began to pity smokers around me, and I certainly didn’t want one anymore. Same thing with alcohol. Exactly. I’m putting it behind me and moving on as a non drinker. Not as an alcoholic forever fighting my cravings, but as a smart person who’s simply given up another nasty habit.

comparing alcohol with bleech is actually more powerful than one might think....
I stopped smoking years ago because cigarettes are 100% poision - yet continued to drink every day.
The moment I TRULY saw alcohol as exactly the same thing as cigarettes - poison coming in various versions and fancy packaging - it clicked!!!
Wine, beer, whiskey, gin, wodka, etc - it is indeed ALL ethanol in a different presentation; being pushed on the people by companies for profit.

I am 63 and I haven't drank any alcohol for a little over a month. I can't say that I can tell that much of a difference - I had quit once before for a little over 100 days - but Since I usually drank mostly on the weekends that it may take six months to a year before I can tell any noticeable difference.

So for me idk I'm not a judgemental person ...I've been sober for 3 weeks now ..and the cravings are finally starting to lessen a bit. I DO understand FINALLY I can not EVER have not even just 1 again. I'm honest with people I tell them I don't drink ...people who know me and saw how I was as a drunk are very proud of me and new people that I let into my life recently I just don't tell them about my past ..it's not necessary to open up about it even though part of me wishes I could ...I've made that mistake with new people before and they just don't get it ...anyways back to the point . So when I go out for dinner or to hang at a friend's place or w.e it may be and I see other people drinking alcohol ...I don't really think ahhh I wish I could have that bc I know it's bad for me !! I just think ok that's their choice ...I actually think it must be nice to be able to do that and be able to keep it moderate...but that's absolutely not for me anymore. I feel so much better without alcohol tho that I'm happy to be starting this long journey ahead..good days and bad days bc I never want to go back to the dark place I was. I feel sorry for the people who are getting drunk at these places for no reason at all ! They might have their life together but ....idk do they really ? But anyways again I just think we'll that's their choice not mine I'm looking out for number 1.

I’m listening in Reno. Been sober for 16 years. Husband 19 years. Nice video and good information. For me I needed to ask for help. Once I had help and accountability I was able to stop. But, I had to deal with my issues of codependency. And yes, change yourself as you can’t change anyone else. That is leadership. Thanks for the video.

Grand Island, Nebraska-USA. I like what you said about the boundaries thing. Seeing alcohol as ethanol and feeling bad about people who drinks is fine. I call myself an alcoholic because that is what I am. But boundaries are important because if you don't have any people will cross them all the time. I have a mate who calls me constantly late at night drunk af. I used to talk to him because I was too but he knows I am sober now, and I can't talk to him like that anymore. He gets mad but I need to focus on me. This is a selfish program but I don't want alcohol to kill me.

Your body knows and it hurts all organs. Plus sitting alone drinking is not your best self or is it enjoyable. Just a waste of 6 to 8 previous hours every evening.

Im from eastern Oregon. Im 31 and severe binge drinker. I feel like Ive never been ready to give it up and surrender to the fact that i am a problem drinker. I drank 3 half gallons of whiskey in 4 days and now in withdrawal at home. I told my self 12 years ago i would never be like this. Alcohol has taken everything from me.

Hi from the Pacific North West. Tapering off today, sooo needing and wanting to be done. Fell in the bushes, had terrible shakes today (thus the tapering), heart rate through the roof, stomach so upset, I puked at Starbucks, real classy for a woman almost 50 years old. Yes, it is just like chlorine and yes, as a former smoker, I do feel sorry for every smoker, so yes, why not apply the same mindset to bloody alcohol?
I have been recording myself drunkenly many times now, as a friendly reminder how that looks, I have alienated all but 2 people in my life, I don’t even have friends anymore, this is such bullshit I did to myself. I was fighting loneliness with chlorine, so to speak, and it really only made me even more lonely.
Back on your program again and listening to your videos. I will kill this version of myself and become the better version I know I can be. Thank you so much!

@@LeonSylvester Quick update from me, Leon. Doing hella better after 4 weeks sober. Wow, I already forgot in what a super bad state I was! Turning everything around really rapidly, hitting the gym 5 times a week, going on lengthy speed walks for 2 hours in addition at least 5 times a week, cleaned up my diet as well. Taking my supplements. Strength is coming back and feeling tons better!!!
In some ways I am like you: either a total mess of a drunk, or a complete gym rat health nut. Currently swinging in the latter direction once again and intending to stay there for life. Strange these two polar opposites that some people display in life, no? My old man was kinda like that too, however he never truly beat smokes and booze, but was fit and in really good shape until the day he died, which was too young and unexpected. We suspect heart failure or stroke, there was no examination, though…. it was just ruled as natural…
Ramble, ramble, ramble… point being: all is good and you helped tons! Thank you and all the best to you, mate!

💯. I've stopped since the 19th August. What has helped me is taking the jokes by my friends on the chin but also knowing I'm in a better place than them. Most of them have a drinking problem like I do but have not been honest enough to themselves about it. All I can do is be an example and have as good a time as them in the pub drinking my sober and lime 😂🍹

So well put! That's exactly what I did and I've been trying to find the words for it for ages (without waffling on for paragraphs).

My parents live in a different part of the world. We haven’t seen them in three years. They are elderly. They are both alcoholics. This will probably be the last time I will see them on this side of the Great Divide. The pressure to drink will be immense. I’m not fishing for compliments, but a pep talk would be great, guys.

Non drinker is far better term. So much truth here. Good work. Delusional is how ALL alcoholics act so what your saying isn't "think of them like that" it's see them for who they are. "Delusional." I wish I was told to stop drinking but nobody around me ever did. I was never a neucence and was never a "bad drunk" looking back I have so much regret I ever drank. After 4 months sober I will never go back.

It's so hard to get sober because usually your life sucks, and you have to live in that. I have nothing but regret and pain and that's my daily life. I will stop today, and maybe some things will change, but honestly I already have an extremely negative defeated mindset.

If I'm with friends who are smoking a joint or eating a THC gummy, they never pressure me to do likewise. They might offer me a hit just out of courtesy; but no pressure. But if I'm with friends who are drinking, the pressure tactics begin almost immediately. And the more I refuse the more upset they become. Leon already has a vid posted on how to say no to such people. My comment is an observation that drinking culture almost resembles an evangelical/fundamentalist religion. Turn off your own mind, follow the group and just "trust and obey."

I have 2 months today but my life right now is lonely and boring I had a urge last night but I didn't drink I think about it then I think about the next day of how I would feel and that helps. But I wish I had more people to talk too who's going through the same thing. It's hard sometimes when your lonely too.
