This is such an eye opener and at almost 41, and having decided to knock it on the head 3 weeks ago, I'm wondering how the hell I am not dead or severely ill!. I started at 13 years old and alcohol became a big part of my life. To the point I've started craving in the past year and skipped meals so I can buy beer instead. My memory is absolutely shot though. I'm hoping it comes back. I struggle to remember names of colleagues I've worked with for over 6 years. Alcohol has to be the hardest thing to quit as here in the UK it is such a massive part of every day life. I went to all the raves back in the 90s and took pretty much all the party drugs you can name.. but once I stopped raving,I didn't touch a single one. My relationship with alcohol is tricky.. it's gotten me through tough times, gets me through social situations and is there when I go on dates and meet in a pub. But on tye flip side,it's caused me to embarrass myself more times than I care to remember, almost got me killed twice through my own stupidity, cost me hundreds of thousands of pounds no doubt and caused me to feel I can't live without it. I've noticed I'm sleeping better now,I feel like I'm alive again and I wake up happy and don't feel like rubbish and head for the fridge to grab a beer as soon as I wake up. God knows how I've managed to work full time since the age of 15. Good luck to anyone who reads this and is trying to quit drinking.

I disagree, personally I have gone on streaks up to 60 days without it and although you have better sleep patterns other than that there isn't much of any difference without alcohol. Especially for people like me who just binge drank on the weekends, I'm a month sober right now and miss drinking on the weekends

I‘m still struggeling but just have to keep saying NO!! I‘ve now had no alcohol for 2 Months and also lost a Lot of weight because of it. once i understood that it was poison for my body and mind it seemed easier to let go. But alcohol is still constantly on my mind i Hope that will change with time.

1 week dry with no end in sight, this is the first time I’ve decided to quit. These videos are incredibly helpful and motivating. It’s easy for me compared to most, I’m not sure why but I can see how difficult it is for others, especially those that drink to cover depression or insecurity. Another factor for me is waking up to how we are manipulated by media and corporations. It makes no sense that alcohol is legal and accepted in all situations while weed is villianized.

I’m on day two now and also quitting smoking at the same time. I’m getting more nervous about my health as I’m almost 38 and the people around me like I said are getting cancer and dying. I just want to know because I'm a month sober right now, but I don't want to quit it forever. So when I return to alcohol I was thinking of just doing the classic college type drinking of going out on Friday and Saturday nights and getting pretty drunk without going totally overboard

@@nicebars Hi, congratulations on your Month sober. Long may it continue. Interesting question. What I consider heavy drinking may not be what you consider heavy drinking. My dad drank 7 days a week drinking about 10 cans of special brew or similar drinks with an abv 9% or stronger. He drank like this until he was about 49 when his heart became enlarged due to his drinking. He got diabetes due to his drinking also kidney damage all because of drinking to much. He still continued to drink after this age however he was finished to be honest. Physically the booze had destroyed him. Anyway good luck on your journey.

Not only does alcohol affects our body, it does affect our entire life and life of our loved ones. Let me share my story. When I was 2,5 y.o., I lost my paternal granddad due to alcohol-related reasons. And as my dad was not really a family guy and did not care much about me, unlike my grandpa, who loved and adored me, I lost connection with my dad's relatives for long years. In 2012 my paternal grandma died because of alcohol. In 2019 my dad died at the age of 48. In his case alcohol was not a primary reason, but definitely contributed into his premature death. And now I am losing my mom as she is an alcoholic. I had to move out of our flat because of her and I've been living at my friend's house for 7 months now. This is how alcohol had been affecting my life before I tasted it, and how it is affecting my life even now when I haven't had a single drop of alcoholic beverages for more than 12 years. Moveover, my kids haven't been born yet, but they have already lost a loving and caring grandma as my mom could have become for them. But I will do my best that this will forever remain their only loss because of alcohol.

“After white bread and sweets alcohol is the third significant intake of [calories] in the United States”.
Considering the substantial percentage of adults who never drink or drink less than once a month that makes it alarming just how many calories drinkers are taking in through alcohol alone. Little surprised added oil/fat isn’t above it though

Living a reckless alcoholic life not only destroys your life but the life of those around you that love you the most. My brother just died at such a young age, so fast , so soon and now his wife, kids, my mom and dad have to deal with the aftermath. All because he didn't/couldn't change. It breaks my heart. By changing the path of your life it could also change the path of your future generation. You are loved ❤ watching this video helped me better understand what happen to his body. I took him to the emergency on Wednesday and he died five days later.

One thing I'd like to know which I haven't found, it's been proven alcohol is not good. It has also been proven sugar is not good and will cause liver damage after years of consumption. Would be good to know which is worse because I feel like most people consume both so it's a double whammy for the liver which accelerates the bad for both. Would alcohol be maybe not quite as bad if no sugar was consumed? Would Sugar be not quite as bad if no alcohol were consumed? Both are terrible for you, but just curious on this point. I've been sober free for 2+ weeks and sugar free for 2+ weeks as well. Still figuring out the diet and weight and stuff that is sustainable.

In my opinion, sugar is worse than alcohol. Especially if you consume alcohol in moderation. I haven't touched any processed sugar for 2 years now. The only sugar I eat is in fruits and whatever is processed during the body after breaking down alcohol. I noticed huge changes in my mood, skin, energy-levels, and happiness around 1-2 months after having no sugar in my diet.
Meanwhile, I have been 30 days clear from alcohol and life hasn't exactly changed for the better. Very few noticeable benefits. If anything I definitely prefer to drink on the weekends in comparison to not drinking on them.

25 days sober, once you realize ethanol is what cleans shit out of cars windshield, imagine what happens if you drink it? Beer is 5% ethanol and some bread tasting water, already makes me want to vomit when Walking In store and see beers, ciders what ever. Very poisonous and stupid drug...

Alcohol doesn't cause weight gain, though other carbs and sugars in drinks certainly do. Research shows this. Personally, I chart my weight, and with zero change in my diet, when I stopped drinking 6-8 vodka sodas a night, there wasn't even a blip in the graph of my weight data.
