Or you could look rich in a Mercedes AMG GT 😂
Hi I feel like I’m being really stupid but how do you enter into your competitions? I just can’t work it out… please help 😊
Hahaha 😂
For real 😂😂😂
Can you do video on the opposite, 5 excellent cars to drive that make you look poor to people who don't know what they looking at?
Title should be: "5 Cars That Make You Look Richer but bankrupt you".
Haha maybe
Gold digging women or gold digging garages.
Hahaha love it 😂
Scotty says “Endless money pit”
Keep it up man😊
I like how you always give “real” advice. “If you can only just afford it, you can’t afford it”. That’s sound advice and always keeping 20-30% back for repairs is a must on older, luxury cars.
20-30% for German. My 2012 XKR (as spec'd £100k new) aside from servicing, has cost me £800 in 3 years. And it's worth a little bit more than I paid for it. 👍
@@getawayhs2856Well, and how much was your "regular servicing"?😂
And EVERY used car you bought some years ago will be worth as much today. I sold my Toyota Proace for the same price I bought it 4 years earlier...with some tenthousands miles more. Better sell your Jag before the bubble bursts.
@@miskatonic6210 it's okay, I can still afford it whatever happens. And the XJS, and the Daimler Double Six 👍
My brother in law whose family are business orientated and millionaires told me, if you can't afford to buy a car outright, then you can't afford it. I drive a banger haha.
The same goes for a house in a way, but they see it as an asset that can earn you money if you rent it out above the monthly payment and should increase in value unlike most cars
My old Renault megane makes me look poorer than I am 😂😂😂
As the fellah said, "Say less than you know. Have more than you show". For me, a cheapish 7 series would be great. But I guess you'd need a 50% repair fund :)
Renault Megane is a cool car.
@@dreamcoatcreatives yes my 2012 estate has done 365000 km and been very reliable.
XJ owner here. People love a Jag. They treat you with respect and dignity. It’s quite lovely.
i was hoping the budgets would be lower, if you have 15-30k to buy a car then your already rich in my book
Agreed !
Get an XJ x350
I love my 2014 S350d W222, had it now for 3 years, yes it’s expensive to run, service, etc, should only stick to original Merc parts/oils etc, but when you go out for a long run, it’s worth all them sacrifices you make to keep one! We all deserve to enjoy our passions, do it!
One hardly deserves anything in life. One earns almost everything.
Here in U.S. i own 2019 S560 w222. Amazing vehicle. Maintainance is not cheap but you're right; worth it. Love my Mercedes
I've had a couple of Merc's, and was surprised at how little they can cost to run, once over 5 years old, the dealer servicing prices even go down, so they can keep your business, and I've even found parts reasonably priced, and competitive against after market parts in some cases.
I've had a Mercedes SLK for three years.servicing by an independent very reasonable and so far no repairs. It has black wheels and looks quite expensive but isn't
OEM parts are still quite dare depending on where you are in the world. They can be more fuel efficient than other cars saving you in the long run
I’ve worked in a Mercedes for 12 years and the key to owning a merc is having a little pot to dip into for repairs. Any lights, rattles or squeaks that pop up, get them sorted asap and you’ll have a much more enjoyable ownership experience. Don’t put anything on the long finger
@@Quattro_Joemy clutch bearing is starting to crunch 😭
Wish I could agree with you, but alas no...
The 2 CLS Shooting Brakes I owned, an AMG 63 and 350d cost nothing more than regular servicing, but an E Class estate and E Class coupe were bordering on being " money pits"!
Dreadfully boring to boot and hard to understand how they're built by the same company that can design a stunningly beautiful car like the CLS Shooting Brake...
I would definitely add Lexus to it, for example the LS600h, which can be relatively cheap (15-20k euros) and is an ultimate luxury limo with an efficient hybrid system which allows a reasonable consumption when driven sensibly.
Not to mention it will be way more reliable than a Benz or Jag.
My JDM imported 2004 Toyota Celsior (Lexus LS430) doesn’t make me look any richer, more like a retired drug dealer😀
LS is the most obvious answer!
Agreed , good call Andek 👍👍👍
Yeah but people care nothing about lexus badge lol. I love lexus and have one so it doesn't work.
Great video. They have all been on my ‘want’ list. Having watched your previous video on the Maserati Quattroporte a few times I bought one 3 months ago. I’ve done 10000 miles in it since! Yes it’s going to cost more than a 5 series or E class to run but it’s been a lot of fun for the money. A champagne car for (relatively speaking) lemonade money 🤔👍 You only live once and who knows what lies ahead in life for any of us so my recommendation is to go ahead and take the plunge. Follow your heart instead of your head and buy the car of your dreams 😀
All really good choices! Yesterday, having watched your review of the red XJ, I went and got one for myself. Cracking low mileage example in IRR with black alloys in the R-Sport guise from JRR Cars in Adlington! Thanks for these excellent videos - the honesty and positivity are peerless....
Lovely! Enjoy it
Got to say this is my new favourite channel at the moment , so well put together thank you for this great motoring content Matt! 👏🏻
Glad you enjoy it!
Matt, you should have included the Jaguar XK. After one of your videos I bought a 5.0 normally aspirated and it’s easily the best car I’ve ever owned. It drives superbly and makes me smile every time I walk towards it. I also get to chat to the staff at my local petrol station at least twice a week! But seriously it’s a great car. As you said a while back: “ We’re here for a good time not a long time….” Keep up the excellent work! 👍🏻
Love the XKs, really wished they did 1 more facelift with the updated tech from the XF/XE
Such great advice Matt - the running costs of these cars can easily eclipse the purchase. As for reliability, I have a 27 year old Jag which has the 'grandfather' 4 litre V8 AJ26 engine and it has been 100% reliable (tensioners changed as preventative maintenance) and has the same compression and performance it was built with. They are truly great cars
What about corrosion
X351 Jaguar - I have owned a 3.0 Diesel for 5 years and 80k miles. Love the thing. In my ownership, the costs (over the whole 5 years) - Suspension ride height sensor (£250 at local Jag specialist). Cam belt (£350 at local Jag specialist) New front right rim (they buckle easily: £200 off ebay), windscreen (there is slight chassis flex, causing screens to crack (£90 on insurance) and then just servicing! I do the servicing myself - takes less than an hour to do the air filter, oil filter and fuel filters plus oil change. I do it every 5-10k miles. I also have a broken lock on the passenger door, the part was £50 only and I will tackle this myself when I can find the time. They are classy, rare, and make you feel special. if you are replacing the brake discs (or rotors if you are American), get drilled ones. They are prone to overheating and then warping... drilled discs help a little. 👌
More repairs than my 2013 Citroen C4 1.6D with 130k miles on it.
Edit: Just thinking about it, your Jag had more repairs then my 2004 Xsara 1.4i with 100k miles on it. And it is still road legal and driving. 17 years of ownership
@@GodricThebut the experience behind the wheel is incomparable.
@@GodricThe£1000 for 5 years or £200 per year on repairs on the Jag. I’d prefer to own that than the Citroens sorry.
@@GodricThe but my jag is older than your Citroen by 3 years and has 110k miles so the costs are to be expected.
In addition, I think we can both agree that owning older cars is far better than being locked into modern cars on expensive finance contracts!
Good luck with the Citroen!
Well if you take out the Cam Belt charge as that's a service item, not a repair I'd be quite happy in a Jag. I had a Citroen and spent 2K in two years on repairs. The old ones, pre year 2000 were great but they are garbage now.@@GodricThe
I get looks constantly driving around my 2011 jaguar xk convertible 5.0. I love how much attention it gets despite costing less than a used small SUV
Not everyone wants to be stared at.
You can get the stares if you chose to drive around in a chav'd up Corsa with a Lound exhaust, lol!
I regularly get attention and looks for my cars - more out of sympathy than anything else. Atleast I can be confident that I will never be conned by gold diggers.
So nice to see the S-Coupe in there, it really is an amazing car. You never see them in the wild.
Great video Matt thats why I look forward to your video’s there’s always something different 👍🏼
I agree with you Matt on both counts, all the vehicles you mention are desirable and have the connotation of status and style. You have to be realistic too when you see your reserve depleting, do you stick it out or fold and sell. I did the latter with my R230, which was costing me more in the 2yrs of ownership than my W209 I’ve owned for over 7yrs. Used cars off all manufacturers are a gamble, so know when to walk away.
I always love watching your videos. Thanks 👍
Great video as always. I enjoy your insights. All drives also offer a luxury experience too
Great advice.
I drove a 2010 Jaguar XF worth about £7k in 2020. Comment from a guy I went to talk to while he was looking at my car: "Cor, mate. You must be loaded."
Rainy day fund is a good idea.
Great video love your choices and for a starting price of 10 to 15k it's just amazing the amount of car you get.
Good choice of sponsor for the video. Take part in a few surveys and give yourself a welcome boost when it is time to go shopping. Super important with any of these vehicles is to take Matt's advice and have a fund to one side to cover for unexpected big bills. Fun fact the S-Class Coupe featured ranked as one of designer Frank Stephenson's top three Mercedes-Benz designs. Thank you.
Another excellent vid with sound, sensible buying advice. I like the fact that the cars were a real mixed bag as well. I like your vids Matt, as they are refreshing and you give good unbiased reviews. I think a very basic rule of thumb to remember here as well:- 'the older the car, the larger the emergency repair bill money pot'? ! ? Depending on the make, model and market reliability reputation of course.
Good advice! I wish I'd seen this video before I'd bought my 2010 3litre V6 Jaguar XF approximately 2 years ago. I love the car and it's a pleasure to drive but it hasn't been without it's problems. DPF issues, corrosion, window regulator to name but a few. Some garages will only use Jaguar parts that are really pricey but I"ve found a local garage that is happy to use E Bay or non Jaguar parts and that has literally saved me hundreds of pounds. Loving these videos, keep up the good work HPA, looking forward to the next one 👍
great advice as always Matt. Your videos helped me find my L320 4.2SC, and I have a 2.5k rainy day pot since day one and resisted blowing all my budget on the purchase price.
Thanks for the information, really great.
Great advice about the maintenance costs involved, Matt.
Great vid matey. I’m very pleased you did this, especially because I’m looking for an L322 currently.
Great interesting/practical vid, especially the warning at the end.
As an alternative to the Jaguar XJ - the XK 5.0 - shapely, powerful, and they sound wonderful
Great list!!! Well done.
Nice vid Matt and as usual a honest review 👌
This is really valuable Matt - thanks again! Also a question I have often asked myself, particularly regarding the prices of Maserati. Good that you reminded us about the slush fund... I was in the market for a Quattroporte but kind of chickened out... because I was concerned about running costs. Live in Sweden now... I wouldn't want to use it in the winter... because of the ludicrous amonts of salt on the roads... and it is more difficult to source parts and professional service. However... it is a drop-dead sexy car... no getting away from that.
Great Vid, Thanks for uploading..
I have to admire you. You don't miss a beat!. You are a very enterprising young man and will go far in life. You are about the same age as my grand daughter(30's? ).
I still drive my pristine 2007 Lexus ls460L in FLL and my 2007 honda crv in barbados. I watch you a lot because you have so much energy. Keep the reports coming....I enjoy them!!
I had a 2007 quattroporte automatica , I had it for 4 and a bit years and i drove it for about 35k miles . Belive it or not - the only issue i had with the car was an alternator replacement AND THATS IT!!!! superb and reliable car with alot of personality
Best video I’ve seen yet from your channel. Really useful, thanks.
Thanks
Hi Matt - I finally found my 2015, S500 coupe. Getting it perfect and fixing what seems tiny things - Has eaten £3K already.(8 weeks). With £600 to come when the parts arrive. As you constantly advise, prepare for the surprise.- So no drama. But is delicious to drive.
Spot on. We have similar tastes. I always run a Range Rover and have had loads of Jags. My fave being the XJR
Another great video thanks
Nice little video Matt.
I've owned L322, W221, X351 and other similar cars so can relate, although not for the reason you mention, rather I appreciate the level of comfort and refinement that this type of car offers, not to mention VFM.
This is obviously lost on people who have never driven any of the above and think an S-line Audi or M-sport BMW are comfortable.
A fine selection of (ex)precious metal!
And a cautionary note at the end.
I like this type of video.
PS: your videos have always been great to watch, but your new production team has has taken the "look and feel" up a notch.
Nice video Matt. I would also add in Aston rapide and Bentley flying spur to the mix also.
Your comment about affordability at the end is spot on. Your honestly is superb.
Love getting notifications of new videos. Always entertaining
Glad you like them!
Love these videos!
I went for the XJ 2013 3.0ltr supercharged portfolio. Bought it 1 year ago with 16,000 miles on it, serviced every 3000 miles one owner and garaged all it's life. Cost me £19000 from a main dealer. Best car I've ever owned. Every time I get in it I fall in love with it again.
Great video as ever.. It is amazing Matt what is out there for 15k +... We could get any of those suggestions you made but can't really justify it.. Really informative & interesting.. Thanks.. 👍🙌
Yet another great video 👍
Been away for a while great to be back great video matt
Really good topic! We want more of it
Honest and best reviews all the time.
Awesome video and honest. Thanks.
I bought your 68 plate XJ and it is a fantastic car puts a smile on my face every trip
Very nice
Love content like this .
Well said, and wise advice..👍
Great Video Matt
Spot ON Target with that priceless Advice at the END
People are not hearing this nearly enough
Fella! damn good advice and in my experience where people go wrong on cars and houses - buy the best you can afford, it is not a guarantee but lay some money away for what you couldnt see/didnt expect!
Some nice cars on your list - I could fancy any of them! Have thought about an XJ but I can't really justify a beast of that size - my XF is probably a bigger car than I need but I am rather attachd to it🙂
It’s great advice about the money to keep aside for ongoing costs.
Bought a Jaguar xf sv8, absolutely love it but so glad I took your advice and kept some money aside for the unexpected, lol. Thank you Matt.
I wouldn't have any of them, lovely cars but as you say matt, keep a pot of money for repairs. I must say, a lot of new cars are expensive to maintain these days, ive still got my nissan vecta n13 which ive owned since 1989 and its the most fun and enjoyable car I've owned. Great vids matt. Aussie Graham.
Sensible advice at the end . I would add the Lexus LS to the list and the BMW 7 series
Yes
Great video. Would love to see a slightly more random list, where you mix fuels. For example, the rather exotic BMW i8 now being on the used market for 30k, the 'bonkers' series needs addressing!
Awesome as always 🙂
Thank you! Cheers!
It’s amazing what you can find in 2010 we brought a fully loaded 2005 500SL with 16k on it from a Merc dealer for £22k. My wife used it as a every day car, albeit low mileage for 13-years and we only sold it this spring with 54k on it. It was Uber reliable. The only consistent issue we had with it was the aux battery dying about ever 3-years. Made her feel special every time she used it, it’s why we kept it so long.
Very nice. Such a bargain
Mercedes CLS 320 cdi also a good shout. I’ve owned one since 2011 and done 130,000 on top of the 20,000 it already had when I bought it. It’s had niggly minor electrical issues but crucially, no engine problems whatsoever. Same engine as the S Class but much sportier. A future classic
Great selection 🎉
Good advice about putting aside money for maintenance.
Love this offering Matt, each car passed the Dave Watts mark of quality, when you look at it you 😊 by the way can you recommend a Audi specialist in Stockport area you use/ recommend
Fab list. I'd add the sensible Lexus LS 600h to the list if you don't mind going Japanese -- the 5 litre V8 engine is silky smoth.
f10 bmw 5 series 530d m sport. A true young executives car. If your budget is really tight an e60 is a viable option. Nice video Matt!
Great channel and it’s taught me a lot. Been there, ran a Jaguar XKR, can afford it, don’t run these cars on a budget, it doesn’t work, - absolutely lovely car, not stupid price to buy, somebody got hit with huge depreciation but it wasn’t me - had the Range Rover Sport 5ltr engine, fully knew and accepted that the VED would be horrible and that fuel costs would be high - for the first 5 years, few problems, normal and expected expenses, had a few issues, plus tyres and battery etc, kept a sensible fund back and everything ticked along nicely - After 5 years everything started to go wrong at the same time, the alternator went, air con failed, coolant leak, battery problems, plus the normal expenses, VED ‘went up - The bills got awful, I could have sorted it, everything was very fixable but reached a point where I’d had enough and traded it for - a Honda CRV. Great to own these types of car, had my fun and maybe looked rich for a while but they have the potential to make you weep. now I look poor again 😢 - Plus the chances of getting knicked for speeding, every trip out became a challenge around our area.
Thanks Matt mine would be a Merc W124 preferably the bigger engine the better!
Best to heed the advice about keeping money back for a rainy day. I have kept a little car fund for servicing and maintenance for around 30 years, especially as I have driven used Mercs for 23 of those years. Costs have been relatively okay, but I still top the fund up each month with a few pounds just in case a huge bill comes my way.
Great video again Matt. Honorable mention to the I8. ~£35k for unlimited eye catching.
Good choice on the x351, it's so cool, and only behind the 420G in terms of being a bit villainous.
Loved the MK 10 since going in one in the 60's as a schoolboy. Was like travelling on a 'Magic Carpet'.
Great advise, as I go online for the merc
Sound advice, as usual - especially the rainy day fund.
Suspect insurance will be a killer if you are under seventy.
I've recently bought a Jaguar X-Type Sovereign estate which is a car I've always been interested in. Didn't spend anything like the suggested amounts on this video but the car has been very well-looked after, detailed history and drives fine. Owner forced to part-ex the car because their address is in the ULEZ zone. My garage lets me supply my own parts so I always buy the best quality for them to fit. I like the fact that there is a Ford 2.2 diesel engine under the bonnet so no timing belt and the automatic transmission is 6-speed and the same as in the Tiguan (which I was glad to be rid of) and the Volvo Geartronics. I agree that you need a bit of savings for any car.
Great Vid and great car choices! L322 owner here!
Picked up a 2018 E400D and it blows me away when comparing its performance to similar cars, not many can get close to it. It’s fun if you want to go crazy but gets me 40+mpg on drives to London and super comfortable. Desperately want an S63 coupe or CL63 just to enjoy on weekends but cash just isn’t there.
I got the same E400D, and even here in germany there is barely any car that can pull away on the Autobahn. First of all most Autobahn sections are crowded or limited, regular 4 cylinder engines are not strong enough and even the 500hp monsters arent fast enough to pull away completely. Even when there is a Lambo or Porsche, they barely pull away, and latest after 10 mins I overtake them, because they cant drive constantly 200-250kmh because its exhausting in those kind of cars and the fuel tank is empty quite quickly...
Thanks Matt. I’ve had the GTC and the L322. Both epic cars and your advice on the rainy day fund is spot on but for the GatC you need at least £5k a year to cover maintenance costs. Mine failed the MOT as a headlamp bulb was not secure in the socket. To get at the light the door, wing and bumper had to come off. It’s over engineered and the parts are extortionate. Another example the bonnet has 3 sensors that tell you if it’s shut, you can’t buy them separately, a new panel is required. 2 motors on the handbrake. It’s a money pit.
That's insane, overcompliacted for no reason!
I don't even have enough for the 'rainy day pot', I don't know why I punish myself watching these videos😢
i'm sticking with the "chevy spark" you also recommended Matt
So cool to stumble upon Ipsos as a sponsor. Used to be a supervisor at ipsos mori back in the day 😊
Ah that’s interesting
Love the jag , styling ❤
.all of these ❤
Remember Matthewsons selling an early 2000's Bentley for around £15.000 and it was a great looking car too -- the narrator did add "as long as the turbo doesn't go...'
That's wise words about keeping a contingency fund!!
Think I'll stick to my clean 07 Volvo estate though. Have it 12 years now and it's like part of the furniture.
Great video as usual. Not on your list I have always wanted a TVR Cerbera, but…they are too fragile for me
Great vid
Lovely car, I had the same response when I bought my bmw 640d, couldn't connect with it, bought an x5 and love it,
Great advice as always Matt, I have always taking on board your views and expertise and after looking at many of your videos I took the plunge ( just retired ) and on the 1st September I bought a 2013 L405 Autobiography 4.4 Diesel with 65k on the clock privately. Always wanted a Range Rover all my life and I know they can be big money pits so I bought with having a safety net in mind of £10,000. Good job I did as having taking it in to Indy to have it looked at and diffs, transfer box, and auto box fluids all changed with a few other bits and bobs it cost me £2000. Now I’ve found the oil cooler needs replacing ( no sign when I bought of oil leaks ☹️ ). It’s in in the Indy again with an expected bill of around £1000, but hey ho as I said I did put aside a good pot to deal with the expected future issues and hoping this will be my last car to see out my days!! Btw I’m booked in for my lobotomy next week😂
Ah very nice. Enjoy it
@@HighPeakAutos Thanks Matt, and btw as you always said you do feel a bit special and a bit superior and awkward when you’re driving it!!
Would be cool if you could do a video for the one tier below this as well; cars like a 2009 Volvo V70, Audi A5, and similar that can be had for well under 10k. The focus would be on a comfortable luxury vehicle for working class money rather than looking richer than you are
W212 Eclass is what you are looking for. Comfortable, strong engines and packed with features like cruise control, xenons, folding mirrors and lined door bins!
Great video Matt. I’ve no money and I love cars. You have given me a great idea. Im going to go out a stage an accident and then make an insurance claim and buy a big Mercedes with the money
Hi Matt, Surprised you never mentioned a Lexus ?
Enjoyed the video as usual.
My 2010 Mondeo made me look much poorer than I actually am! Is this a theme for another video...?
Haha yes it is!
I have an old volvo estate! I don't care what people think to be honest. Suits me perfectly
Also, 2010 mondeo is a solid car in my opinion
I have a 2012 diesel Peugeot but just under 100k in savings earning good interest😀
