One thing to check with a loud knocking noise is the auxiliary belt tensioner. If it's bouncing around in unison with the knocking then it's normally either a vibration damper or an alternator over running pulley. It's easy to miss and assume it's an engine problem because the noise can be horrible and it's a relatively cheap fix.

Some friends up the road have a farm and bought a Ssanyong Rexton quite a while back. I asked the lady about the car and they are delighted with the vehicle and have worked it hard on a daily basis doing the things farmers do. I'm not a fan of SUV's, so it looked like the rest of them to me. To be fair these are nice hard working people with children who need reliability in a vehicle, and appear to have found one in Their Rexton. Have to say Matt that we live in the far North of Scotland near John o Groats and the climate can be very hard on all vehicles. Take care. Derek.

He'd gone through multiple cars in a fairly short period of time trying to find one which didn't give him backache. He’s tried all those seat fitments, including one of those beaded things.... trying to solve it. When he bought the Korrando, the backache disappeared. He fitted LPG to it, and did loads of economical miles. He gave me a lift in it once, and I was quite impressed. Nice high seating position, decent amount of get up and go. Yeah, it was an OK car.

Rather than waiting 3 weeks for a garage, who I assume you take all your cars to so therefore bring them alot of regular business.
This will enable you to examine your cars straight away, service them etc, and ensure a fast turnaround of stock but it will also allow you to repair vehicles quickly in the rare event there is an issue with a one under a 3-month or extended warranty.
This typre of car is retailing for around £7k, so put a replacement engine in this one for around £1500 and you'd still be walking away with a £2-3k profit at the end!

You must have an OBD2 reader knocking about, stick it on & see what it is saying. Even when it isn't able to give you the manufacturers specific readout, you tend to get a good idea of what the issue is when its one of those 'some sort of engine problem' sort of cars.

    • @ProdigalPorcupine

I think this is rod knock or cam wear. OBD2 isn't going to help there, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. Best thing is just get rid ASAP, it's just not worth the hassle.

At that price there had to be some issues and as the saying goes "if it seems too good to be true it probably is!" That said its not a bad looking car and well specced. Could be a bargain for someone with mechanical knowledge and skill and even if the top end needs some new parts - camshafts and valves etc there is a potential for this to be a good buy for someone.
