If your garage was close to where I live I’d definitely buy a car from you!Seem super honest and actually fix cars before selling them. So many dodgy garages about nowadays
I find it astonishing that people will buy a fairly new, expensive, quality car for say £20k, and then skimp on a £300 service. I just don't get it. I've had loads of older cars over the years and even when they are worth peanuts, I would never not get it serviced exactly on time. Why do people do it?
Definitely spend all their spare cash on PCP or hp so nothing left to spend on maintenance especially when they will just chop it in again on 12 months for something in fashion
If it’s your main method of transport, and where you’re spending a significant amount of time, why wouldn’t you keep it clean and maintained? Baffling.
They may have maintained it themselves, possibly rather than probably! I do my own servicing, partly to save some money, that's how it started, but mainly because I have trust issues having seen some of the stunts many garages put, I also then know it's done properly with quality parts. Obviously can be a problem come sale time but I'm aiming to keep my current car for ever so not a problem.
Im shocked at the disparity of labour costs between north and south - here in Gloucestershire youd be lucky to see change out of £600 for a wheel refurb, with many places charging closer to a grand.
Rapidly approaching the moneypit sunset. Granted this is the UK but still absolute garbage quality. I've got a 30 year old nissan bluebird, none of those issues, they just run and run.

@@rambleon3698 Wrong. Engine and gearbox mounts lasted for 14 years (you should find out how long a motor mount lasts on other cars and you will see that 14 years is very good), brake lines and stinking aircon got to that state because the car lived in a wet area, it was probably parked near the sea and it's completely normal for a 14 years old car...

Bought a 2014 one a year ago. Deliberately chose the older model c220 AMG sport estate because I preferred it. So far really pleased. Smooth and nicely planted on the road. Much prefer the interior and controls to newer cars (I hate cars with everything controlled by a tablet screen thing stuck on your dashboard). Engines a bit noisy when cold but on the move fine. Very comfy on a long journey and fuel efficient for quite a biggish lump.

Hi Matt great video as usual, different car I know but I’ve recently bought an Lexus NX it’s 8 years old with 77k on the clock…..I booked it into Derby Lexus and asked for a full service and a gearbox service…. i've have the 2012 estate 220cdi amg sports plus version owned since nearly new at 5k miles , and now 135k miles up. Apart from usual consumables, all i have every had to replace is the clock spring on steering wheel @ 90k miles and water pump @125k miles. g/box serviced every 40-50k miles and i've latterly increased engine oil change intervals to every 5k-8k miles and the engine still runs as sweet as a nut (55 -60mpg on a run) . As an fyi merc have a recall for the possible rust in the rear sub frame which they will replace FOC if rust found ..mine is ok so far. Bottom line for me is the utility value is worth far more than what i could get if i sold it , and im looking forward to running it for another 100k miles

Had the same problem with my brake lines last year on my 2008 C220 CDI. Thankfully spotted and sorted before they burst... A really good thing to point out.
I just bought a 2012 R Class here in Canada - a true 7-seater station wagon (estate) with less than 60k miles on the clock powered by a 3.5-liter diesel and in as new condition for $15k (Canadian). I don't think this model was ever sold in Europe and it was never a massive success in North America where the market is either minivans (Honda Odyssey and Toyota) or SUVs. The Merc sits somewhere in the middle. Like a minivan, it has seven seats, with the third row actually being comfortable and usable. Like an SUV it has 4WD and can actually be lifted on rough terrain. Its luggage capacity with seven seats in use is a little limited, but for our family of five plus a dog it is the perfect vehicle. 30 miles to the gallon on the highway, which is amazing for such a large and heavy car. Very happy with it.
I am always amazed at the used car prices in the UK. Even doubling your prices for our undervalued Aussie $ I still could not get that car in that condition in Oz. Thanks for the video Matt. Even refurbishing the wheels would be $1000!
Yes Australia doesn't even allow used Japanese imports. Horses for courses, UK has mostly manual and diesel, its rare to see petrols. They adopted the French approach as a result the air is heavily polluted. UK still doesn't have a good selection of Japanese imports or grey imports
I've had one of these for 10 years, but with the V6 engine. A lot smoother than the 4-cyls and will still do 50mpg without trying too hard. Big enough carry a wardrobe, but not tank-like to drive at all. Rear tyres don't last long, wish mine had 17-inch rather than 18-inch wheels. I only got 10K from the current Continentals and I'm a sensible driver. Avoid solid red (Diablo red?) on Mercs of this era, there's a manufacturing fault that makes the lacquer peel off. Doesn't affect any other colours And I spent ages waiting for a red C350CDI to show up in Autotrader. Such is life.
It’s funny but I really enjoy watching affordable cars been done up and made ready for sale more than watching exotics getting a 10 grand carbon fibre boot spoiler fitted, I suppose that’s the working class peasant in me 😊. Matt I’m a Lexus guy and currently drive a Lexus is300h FSport but I am thinking of buying the Lexus es300h soon, any chance of doing a review on one if possible please and thankyou
Nice buy! I own a ‘08 s204. I love it and drive it for 6 years now. The rear subrame can be a problem on these cars. They will rust from the inside out and break. Mercedes replaced the rear subrame on my car under warranty when it was 11 or 12 years old! Als check the brake lines under the subrame, they will also rust..
I have one of these in white, it's a 3 litre diesel and i have owned it for about 4 year's no problem's. Love the styling and has aged really well. There's not many around Marple so you may see it knocking about. Great reviews love the channel 👍
I run a 2009 C220CDI AMG sport estate. It has the maple wood interior like this one. Wheels were refurbished too. Only difference mine has the optional sat nav that folds out of the dash. Great car and i too sold mine to the first viewer last week.
I bought a 2012 C200 diesel last week. Definitely agricultural 😁 Not quite as nice to sit in as a 3 series but I’m liking it more and more. I even did a car vertical check with the High Peak discount. Happy days
Hello, how would you compare it against a Lexus is like a IS250 or 2013- IS300h? I'm interested but I would like to know if you had considered the lexus.
@@Sha-AyoI had a lexus is220d. Without exaggerating it was one of the worst cars ever that I owned. Thought they looked nice and was encouraged by the brand reputation but it was just shocking. Was lexus's first attempt at a diesel i think and it was an epic fail. The petrol version was incredibly thirsty and the performance was some way off the equivalent BMW. They must have upped their game because my friend bought an is300h which was beautiful, smooth, economical, stylish and bullet proof. Maybe il go back to lexus one day but just my thoughts
@@Sha-AyoHe bought a Lexus IS the other day, and did a video on it! It was one of the really old ones though, straight out of the E46 era, so if you're buying one, expect lots of crispy metal and hidden bodgery below the door handles.
All of those issues, i've had with my 08 C200cdi on 175k miles. Coil springs, rear light plastic, seat cover, ball joints. Common issues. Also ive had a water pump go (no cambelt so not serviced on interval), body module (reset) and the keys play up. I dont skimp on my tyres like this, Michelin Climate Controls last forever and give these grip in the snow. Engines are more bombproof than expected.
I would totally agree with the brake pipes as I had the same problem on my W204, and it hadn't shown on the MOT, but a Mercedes specialist told me. Also, the subframe is a known issue on the W204 for corrosion. Nice cars though
Once again a very nice car back on the road for years to come because you do things correctly that’s why the man paid without photos but you got a bit of money but a lot of admiration people know you only sell the best , no stone unturned ❤
I've got the E class convertible with the same engine in and it's no where near as noisy as that. C250cdi is the 200hp engine and must've suited that car really well.
I managed to pick up a 2009 c250 CGI (1.8L turbo petrol) last year for £3750. It’s a fantastic car and because it’s Blue Efficiency It’s also pretty good on fuel. It’s very refined and comfortable and it’s turned out to be a great small family car.
Came across one of your vids from 4 years ago on a Ford Fiesta eco-boost. Just wanted to say how much your whole presentation is now so professional compared to back then.👍
My company got me a 2014 EClass 2.1 diesel a couple of months ago after my Nissan Jukes's cvt gearbox let go after 168000 miles. Its on 132000 miles, and i hate noisy cars but for some reason i dont mind it in the merc, once you move off it fades way. What i like is there is no difference in cabin noise between 60mph and 85mph. Plenty of power for normal use, 40mpg urban and 50 motorway @70mph. A 2016 ulez one is still £16000 +.
Shame we didn’t get to see the finished article! But you can’t turn down a sale Matt can you. A tidy looking car to start with yet you still had to pay out for quite a few issues 🤷🏻♂️ wow it’s all a bit of a gamble really 😀👍🏻
I disagree with what you said about trading in a car with an empty tank, it's hard times for a lot of people Matt. Not everyone has money to throw around. Why would I go wasting fuel and money unnecessarily? It doesn't mean that I've not maintained the car, it means that I'm careful about how I spend my money. On another note I enjoyed the video, keep up the good work.
Made me smile when you said 'Hearsy'. I once said to my Dad, who bought and sold cars privately when I was young, had the opportunity to buy a Merc estate in black and I said 'Dad, it will look like a hearse'. It was great to have a Dad who was into cars, and still is, which is a bonus👍🙂. And question... fake wood trim...has it aged well?..was it ever stylish?...Discuss😉
Was tempted by this when it appeared on the website but I was waiting for the pics to appear - and then off it went!! Good job though and definitely worth that as well, especially with everything that you'd done to it in the end.
I like these mercs, I have one 140k on it. Solid cars if you look after them. Mine is now at an age/mileage where I'm getting things done to it regularly but I do drive about 400 miles every week in it. Last 2 years - Brake line burst, got new line, discs, pads, several oil changes, 2 or 3 suspension arms replaced, Back plate replaced, new tires 3 times, exhaust clamp replaced, Air con pressure sensor replaced, re gassed...
I've got a 2014 C Class saloon Matt and really like it. Mine was bought new by someone who cheaped out with the accessories catalogue, but I still love it. Yes, the 2.1 is a little agricultural and my 136 bhp version does this thing in "sport" mode where it just makes more noise without any perceived performance increase 😂. But that engine is fitted to the Vento van and as such is very durable. You made me really anxious when you pressed the tailgate release as that wall looked awfully close 😬. But it looks a nice example. Privacy glass is nice to see as is the dog guard for your XL Bully 😉. In conclusion then, quite an outlay for the profit BUT another very nice car for the buyer with a potential 100,000 miles more life in it if they look after it. P.s. I also get the gearbox service done on time. It's not cheap but the cost of a reconditioned gearbox is a lot more.
That era I think had corrosion problems with brake lines, fuel lines & subframes. I had to get those sorted on my 2005 SLK. Apparently a known problem.
By coincidence I watched an old review of yours last night of an E-class estate, I think it was an '09 plate. I'd been contemplating either a C- or E- might be my next car. This looked pretty decent but I'd probably need the slightly bigger loadbay of the E-class to get a couple of bikes in the back.
Welcome baaack. Matt, how much time did you put into this car? That must be the ultimate factor when working out whether £850ish is good money. Other bonuses are that you kept a perfectly decent car on the road for the foreseeable future, which is a nice slap in the face to throw away culture and in built redundancy, and you possibly saved someone from experiencing sudden brake failure! Nice one.
Great video I picked the same car for myself Matt from auction, C250 estate £1800 on a 2011 with 188k, same door card issue!, needed a drop link and a tyre, needs a timing chain as the tensioner is worn. so for less then 3k I've got a super quick safe tank that does 40mpg!
Well done Matt you put another good car back on the road saving it from the scrap yard someone has got a really good car hopfully stopping them buying an EV..
I had a 2012 c220 sport estate was a lovely car only has it 7 months when someone decided to rear end me and write the car off. I now have a e250 amg line estate which is nice. The interior of your one was real, if the seats are double stiched they are real leather as the artico ones you can not see the stiching 👍👍
Great news it sold so fast, and not surprising they sell quick. people are starting to realise your prep is second to none. Depending on where they live get the odd person on the video if it sells that fast. I'd be over the moon. Sorted car and on TH-cam with Matt.
“Hyacinth”… ha ha ha ha I am as American as they get and I love those comments thrown into your videos - that one I got. Love the American references as well, because they’re true. Your content is better with each drop. Thanks, time well spent watching your videos.
That price is crazy in germany where i live the cheapest one in a 100km radius is 5900€ and it has 300000km on the clock wich is about 186k miles and the engine is knocking
First registered in Inverness and that is probably why the wheels are bad, loads of winter salt, not a great profit but a great advert for your professionally run business supplying safe affordable family transport 👍🏻🏴
Matt, you should do a feature where you blind buy a car for a viewer, with a couple of criteria, I’ll go first, what the best 4K day van I can get for taking me and my 3 kids to the beach?
I recently had my c220 break lines fail …..400 quid later we are all good , had the car for four years so 100 quidditch a year in repairs isn’t to bad!
The older Mercs are far more better well made than the newer cars, If you can buy an older Merc with Low miles and look after it, it will look after you. All the old Mercs were Manufactured in Germany, Now they have some parts Manufacture in China and then put the car together in Germany. Im looking to buy a 2013 Merc C250 Estate with about 40 Thousand miles, FSH price11K

Good watch again Matt. However, at 17:09 I am perhaps in the minority. I traded in my 2019 530d a couple of months ago that I had had serviced at BMW, left Michelins all round that had done 5,000 since replacing them and wanted for nothing, but, I deliberately left about 20 miles of diesel in it. My view is that if I’m offering a car thats been well looked after why should I give away half a tank of fuel as well? Particularly given the cost of fuel at present. 😂👍
Not ULEZ friendly. A good motor no doubt but no point buying as you're not future proofing yourself or even current proofing due to all the clean air zones.
Imagine, just imagine what a lavish lifestyle you might lead had you not massively overspent on everything. You could wear designer clothes, a high-end watch, drive luxury cars, spend time holidaying overseas………… oh wait! 😉😆
I've always had a soft spot for this era of Mercedes cars, which had more of an angular styling. They've aged really well.
Right. I have a soft spot for the W212 and the X166 especially
I agree. I hate that the new mercs no longer look like mercs :-(
spot on. the new ones look like melting chocolate with tarty, tasteless interiors. same with BMW, no class since the E39.

I have one of these in white, it's a 3 litre diesel and i have owned it for about 4 year's no problem's. Love the styling and has aged really well. There's not many around Marple so you may see it knocking about. Great reviews love the channel 👍
Matt Great to see an honest used car salesman
@sha22276 he has done a video on the IS250. You can check that out.
Stunning car. A great watch once again, I really look forward to these videos 😊
Years back my Dad was considering buying a black Mercedes estate. I put him off when I told him it looks like a coffin carrier
‘The car that just keeps on giving, problems’, love your statements Matt
I would totally agree with the brake pipes as I had the same problem on my W204, and it hadn't shown on the MOT, but a Mercedes specialist told me. Also, the subframe is a known issue on the W204 for corrosion. Nice cars though
Once again a very nice car back on the road for years to come because you do things correctly that’s why the man paid without photos but you got a bit of money but a lot of admiration people know you only sell the best , no stone unturned ❤
Beautiful car and worthy of the attention you have given it.
Love it when you tell us about it matt and see you driving there
Came across one of your vids from 4 years ago on a Ford Fiesta eco-boost. Just wanted to say how much your whole presentation is now so professional compared to back then.👍
I'm sure the lads from Dents won't be happy with you telling everyone they have little rods Matt 😂
Love your logical analytic approach to buying used cars and the great videos. Keep it up. Have learned a lot
I had a 2010 C220i CDi BlueEfficiency estate as a company car - absolutely faultless. Lovely thing, effortless 700+ miles/tank, smooth and quiet.
Was tempted by this when it appeared on the website but I was waiting for the pics to appear - and then off it went!! Good job though and definitely worth that as well, especially with everything that you'd done to it in the end.
Same! 😂
Such good cars, bought the exact same thing a year ago, but a 2010 C250CGI with 44k miles, sweet!
I use exactly the same car when I work in Germany, 300k kms, drives like a dream and shifts on the autobahn. Great car….
Nice one.
Loved this video as always. All through it was waiting for the obligatory “but I’ve overspent!” Good to see you did make a profit though 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Another great video Matt ... and yes, please get rid of all those weeds behind the parking bay
Well done Matt you put another good car back on the road saving it from the scrap yard someone has got a really good car hopfully stopping them buying an EV..
Aux cable input on the left in the glovebox, click cd, then select that on bottom left and change to aux.
10:03 Matt always finds a way to take a dig at qashqai or juke, even when the video has nothing to do with them lol
“Hyacinth”… ha ha ha ha I am as American as they get and I love those comments thrown into your videos - that one I got. Love the American references as well, because they’re true. Your content is better with each drop. Thanks, time well spent watching your videos.
You should be thankful that the car sold so quickly and with not bad profit, well done!
Nah the wheels get like that everywhere by that age.
About to go and buy the same model tomorrow. A very informative video it will help me with my purchase thank you
Matt Richardson from Furious Driving loves these. This could be another Mercedes welding project to sit on his driveway for years.
Well done Matt, You managed to drive through my home town of Glossop when the traffic wasn’t at a standstill for once. 😉👍🏻
Such nice cars and they are priced so reasonably here in Ireland as many can’t keep them on road due to tax and insurance prices, was dead set on buying a c180 saloon myself until I priced insurance
Thank your Indian prime minister Leo for high taxes
Why does it matter than he’s Indian, more educated and more ambitious than you’ll ever be?
Hes appropriating Irish education and we had to pay for that. Hes not Irish and is leading Ireland and thats the problem with him being Indian.
More educated and ambitious than i will ever be???? Hes more gay than i will ever be and thats for sure.@@rickp2293
Ok not a great return but once again you put your heart and soul into saving another classic car 💪
Imagine, just imagine what a lavish lifestyle you might lead had you not massively overspent on everything. You could wear designer clothes, a high-end watch, drive luxury cars, spend time holidaying overseas………… oh wait! 😉😆
Great point! 😂
Great job Matt. Lovely car
2 mins in and he's already mentioned the Rego Plates!
He's a true legend, they really do transform the car!
Excellent car! Had one and loved it.
Looked a nice Merc. Thanks for the advice about the brake pipes. I'm glad you didn't loose your shirt on it. Good luck with the house move 😊
Got a c250 facelift cdi! Pretty sporty and so economical! Get a FL id possible, more features and nicer touches like bluetooth music
Just looked at one here in Austria but as a 4Matic … but going for around €12-13000 here 🙄
Could do with strimming that verge Matt when you get a minute.
