I have a serious hair product addiction too, but i don't have a channel to justify it lol. I tried the Shea Moisture trio and you're right, they're awesome! I also picked up your guides. They're so helpful for someone like me who likes to see things in print. Great job, Courtney! 😊
I'm about half way through the video, but wanted to let you know that I'm finding the background music too loud and distracting. Will keep watching, but would love the music to be softer in forthcoming videos. Thanks.
If you have unfiltered hard water, specifically calcium, please use a sulfate shampoo at least once a week until you can get a filter. The calcium can build up and mimic dandruff when it’s “cast” on your scalp starts flaking off. It can even pull skin cells off and create an itchy scalp with sores 😅 You’ll want to regularly put vinegar down the drain too
Now please, please do a wash day using all of your favorite products in one wash day. Miche shampoo, Curlsmith conditioner, leave in, briogio gel, maybe some hairspray. Refresh it with effortless waves. 😍😍😍
I had to pause this video just to write this comment 😂… You and your hair are starting to look very 1950s starlet ❤ I would love to see a video of you trying one of these kickback styles!
Love you channel! And your hair looks fabulous! I had longer hair (like you did last year) and I really noticed a difference when I cut it to shoulder length. I'm seeing waves and ringlets that I never knew where there. Thanks for all your helpful information!
I'm right there with you on that. I'm gradually making a dent though! I also bit the bullet and threw out a couple of things that just never really worked for my hair. I hate waste, but had no one to give them to, and needed the space.
Omg! That Pantene shampoo has been my HG! I love it so much, never thought I’d see you using it😊💕 I’ve also recently started using some silicones again, specifically amodimethicone and I was able to find a conditioner from garnier fructis that has it without dimethicone which I’m not a huge fan of. It’s the sleek and shine conditioner, I’d love to hear you’re thoughts on it with your bleached hair now😅🌷
I went out and treated myself to the Briogeo gel and I’m so glad I did! I think I had the best couple of hair days since I started my wavy/curly journey! Thanks for having it in your list of top products 👍🏽
Tried a styler from Cantu and to my surprise my hair loved it, thought for sure that it would be for heavy for me but nope! Gorgeous results. Still wash and condition with Fructis banana hair food since my hair is highlighted and seems to just thrive with it. And another styler i must recommend for my fellow scandinavian people is the Björn Axén curl cream with heat protection SO good.
Have you tried Jessicurl Too Shea conditioner? It's lighter weight than the Deep Conditioner, but still nourishing. All of her conditioners can be used as leave-ins too, which is nice. I'm a fan of the As I Am leave-in. I've been using it since going curly in 2019. It's a great one.
Always love these videos. I've been watching you for 3 years - my full curly/wavy journey. I just bought the shea moisture shampoo and conditioner because of your last video on it and LOVE THEM. My hair is loving it! Thank you!!!!
I bought the Briogeo gel after your one-brand washday, and holy cow, you weren't kidding! It's the best gel I have ever used! It gives my hair SO much hold. I used it yesterday, in fact, and I had few issues refreshing today (something I struggle with). I try to vary what I use to avoid any type of inadvertent build-up, plus, like you, I have WAY more products than I will ever need (though my collection probably pales in comparison to yours), so I don't always use it. Plus it's a liiiiitle bit pricey. It's weird, though, because I think it smells like a department store (as in, the clothing sections, not like the perfume/cosmetics area). I mean that in the best way, too, because it makes me feel like I'm shopping :)
Excellent video and thank you so much for such an incredible resource with your hair guide as well, Courtney! A lot of these products on your 2023 favorites list are totally new for me, so I look forward to trying them out. You’re a lifesaver with those Pantene and Shea Moisture product recommendations too, Courtney! Scalp folliculitis has been a daily struggle for me ever since both Suave and Neutrogena changed their formulas and discontinued their products. Even though I’ve recently cut my curly hair short, it still needs a good clarifying and deep conditioning treatment, so I can’t wait to try it out! 😄

It looks very promising! :D
I would LOVE it if you would use and compare Briogio Curl Charisma Gel to Not Your Mother's Hard Hold Gel! I've had success with it and it's more affordable for those on a budget. Please do it!!
I was surprised that the Briogeo Biotin Volumizing Shampoo and the Don’t Despair Repair Deep Conditioning Mask didn’t make the list with the Curl Charisma Gel but it’s awesome to see the ones that bumped them are more affordable. Thanks for sharing!
I'm thrilled to have a new recommendation for a clarifying shampoo. Thanks to your recommendation from a couple of years ago, I've been using the Neutrogena anti-residue and really liking it, but it seems that that one has disappeared. Thank you so much!
I am really enjoying the Swavy Curly Confidence Product Guide. All your hard work on it is greatly appreciated. On another note, you look like you are feeling better in this video, I hope that’s the case! I am keeping you in my prayers!!
Thanks for another great video Courtney! I enjoy "favorites" videos & look forward to them each year. That said, I also have a love affair with Curlsmith, even though I'm a one-and-done kinda gal. Favorites are: Matrix, A Curl Can Dream shampoo (only shampoo), Curlsmith, Post-Wash Calming Conditioner, and my only styler is Curlsmith's Curl Defining Souffle. In the rare event I need a deep conditioner, I use the one from their blue/scalp line. You make me want to try Effortless Waves, but kinda don't the the Souffle can be beat as a one & done. Love to hear your thoughts on your favourite products. I have no excuse for the amount of products that I own but experimenting is fun!! I hate to give negative feedback but I found the background music very distracting while you were talking. I had to keep rewinding to listen again.
I wanted to try the curlsmith hairspray before defusing like you suggest but the can says to only use it on dry hair so I was scared 😣 will try it wet now that you say it’s okay 😁
You need to send out a query for a book deal. Like... seriously. Include your product guide, the area for notes like you already have, and then the story of your curly hair journey. Seriously, we'd all buy it right now.
Courtney, Thank you for this fantastic and comprehensive video of hair products. As my brown fine hair turns silver white, it has become wavy-curly, which I love. You are so dynamic when you are speaking, I adore viewing you. I will try the products you suggest... Again, I appreciate all the work you have put into these videos and hair care journey.
I'm so sorry that the music was too loud! It sounded ok when I edited it and double checked it before uploading it. I also tried to pick a song that I thought was cute. 😖 Really sorry it was distracting!
I don't like foam or mousse BUT I LOVEEEE Camille Rose Spiked Honey foam mousse in an orange bottle. So nourishing so moisturizing on my fine hair. Itsa GAME CHANGER. U have to try it!!
Hi Courtney. Thanks so much for sharing your hair journey with us and testing all the products for all us wavy/curlies. It's so helpful. I've just had a little look at your Swavycurlyconfidence guide and it looks fab. Could tell me how many of the 230 products you tested are available in the UK please? 🙏🥰
What perfect timing of this video, I was just wondering what your fave products were! I have to try that briogeo gel again bc a couple of years ago it didn’t leave an impression on me and I gave it away.
Thanks for doing this even though you don’t like to. I enjoy watching people’s favorite videos because as a Consumer I trust it more than sponsored content. But I also understand that just because someone doesn’t like a product doesn’t make it a bad product, that’s very true!
This is so true! I've seen so many people rave about the curl smith souffle, but for me it flash dries my hair and I end up with a dry frizzy mess. 😭 Still, I fully believe that it's great for a lot of other people! We really all just have different hair!
I live in Minnesota. During the winter, I have to use a leave-in conditioner (and a cleansing oil shampoo, and fairly regular use of a deep conditioner in place of my "daily" (I don't wash daily) conditioner. Thats what I find most troubling about "my favorite" or "the best" product reviews, or people trying to find "the right product" for their hair. Your hair's response to a product is so dependent on a long list of factors, and I fear that people try products in the wrong season (literally and figuratively) and then write them off forever.
I love the curlsmith multitasking conditioner and it smells wonderful. I want to try the hairspray but am worried as my hair hates all of their gels. Loves the other products but not the gel.
We have a gel here in Australia called 'Davroe Construct' and I KNOW you would love it. See if you can get hold of it somehow! I would love to see what you think of it. I've been using it for years.
I have watched so many videos. Cake products work so well for me The shampoo conditioner and cream. Then I put it in a microfiber towel. Then I put in cake mousse on and then innersesense gel. Micro plump. It’s amazing for my thin but plentiful red hair. I always diffuse I hate wet hair. Diffuse the roots at high. The low medium heat with the diffuser it’s an orchid diffuser _ rather large. Put it on low and finish diffusing. Takes 30 minutes. My hair is so healthy.
Love this video so much! I would love to know your thoughts about the Ouidad Advanced Climate Control gel especially compared to the Briogeo gel. The TH-camr Gena Marie got me hooked on the Ouidad gel, but now I might try the Briogeo gel next!
Those are two completely different products. The Ouidad gel is super runny and serumy. I personally find that I don’t get much hold with the Ouidad gel. The texture of the Briogeo gel is much thicker. I believe Gena Marie doesn’t love a thicker gel, but I tend to like thick gels.
Courtney, I bought Curl Smith Effortless Waves a few weeks ago. I have hair that’s similar to yours. I’m having trouble with it. In your video you used it as a styler, right? That’s what I did. Could I put a gel in my hair after it? I really need a cast. What are your thoughts? Tia
I use the Effortless Waves for refreshing on day 3. It really brings out my volume and gives great definition! I almost bought the Briogeo gel at Ulta today but held off since I just bought some Ecoslay Orange Marmalade gel, which I've heard good things about and I'm eager to try! Thank you for sharing this! It's fun to see what your favorite products are!
I bought EW a few weeks ago as I have waves. I’m having a hard time with it. I don’t know if I’m using it properly. I used it as a styler. It gave me no hold and hardly did anything for my waves. 😮 I don’t know if I use too much or not enough. 🤔 I gather when you use it as a refresher you put it on damp hair right? I tried it and nothing. This is the second CS product I bought based on rave reviews and they’ve done nothing for my hair. I can’t afford to do this. 🙁
@@maryc6091 So I dampen my hair and then spray it over after that and scrunch it in, but it does take a lot, and I have to still diffuse. Air drying does not work well for my hair at all. It doesn't give a ton of hold, which is why I use it on day 3, when my waves have elongated a lot. It helps bring them back to where it's no longer borderline straight. I also buy the little trial size things of Curlsmith first to see if I like it. For example, their Moisture Memory Reactivator...it works well paired with the wave spray but the smell is unpleasant to me. I only bought the trial size and once that's gone, I probably won't repurchase that one.
@@maryc6091 I haven't tried it myself so definitely take this with a pinch of salt (I put a moratorium on buying more hair products until I use some up 😅) but if you're finding it doesn't hold I think it can't hurt to try and use more? Courtney did say in this video she uses loads of it, and if you already bought it you might as well give it a shot. Just maybe try a washday where you don't have to go anywhere that you can't just put your hair in a bun, in case it doesn't work out?
I really really enjoyed this video. Unfortunately I have no product favorites, not sure why but I will be trying some of yours. Do you have a shampoo or conditioner that you really like, that contains silicone? I’d really love to find out. Ty
Thank you for this video! I’m thinking experimenting with the 1-2-3 gel method. Is the Sheamoisture Milk Gel best suited as the soft hold, medium hold, or strong hold layer? I’m excited to try this product!
I love watching your videos and appreciate all of the knowledge you share with us in such a clear way! I saw an allergy specialist and found out I'm allergic and have contact dermatitis, but "fragrance" or "perfume" is the worst and makes my scalp itch and flake, and makes my upper back get a bumpy rash. I have to look at the ingredients of EVERY product and especially avoid Fragrance Mix - geraniol, cinnamal, citronellal, eugenol, Oak moss, Limonene, and Linalool! HELP! Also, make sure your dandruff isn't actually a reaction to an ingredient in the products that you should try to avoid.
is the Milk Gel discontinued? Since your product video I have been wanting to try it, but it has been sold out on the brand website and not in stock in any store I have been in!!!
*wispers* I skip washing my hair if that’s the case. I know it’s a bit gross if you’re super crazy sweaty. But if I’m on a time crunch washing my hair usually is something I skip.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I usually do! But im talking...it's day 6 hair and your Mama's birthday that you might have forgotten. Not completely forgotten, you got the present and made a lunch date. But you didn't realize it was Today until you looked at your greasy and sweaty hair in the gym mirror and you have to pick your kids up from school in 30 minutes and they scurry to lunches... Totally hypothetical and absolutely didn't happen to me....🫣
Just love that JessiCurl deep conditioner. Thanks for introducing it to me. It’s one of my all time faves. For a leave-in, I just can’t live without the Curls Blueberry Bliss. I tried and I can’t. 🤷♀️🥰
Great video, as per usual, Court!! Question: How does the Pantene shampoo compare to other shampoos which actually have the claim of clarifying? For example: Paul Mitchell Shampoo 2, Olaplex Clarifying, Suave Daily Clarifying, etc. 😘
The panting shampoo is slightly more stripping than the suave daily clarifying shampoo. And it is definitely more stripping than the Ola Plex clarifying shampoo.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Perfect, thanks!! I definitely need a super strong clarifier because I only use it once a month and I have very coarse/curly hair. I'm currently using the Malibu-C Hard Water Wellness and it's just not "stripping" enough for my liking!! 😁
After watching your video, I went to the drug store to buy Pantene Volume & Body and couldn’t find. Then I thought, we’ll I guess it’s not in Canada yet. Then I went online to find it both in Canada and USA and couldn’t find it. Help me Courtney!!!!! Tia
I always found Shea Moisture to weigh my hair down, shea in most products would do that. Anyway Shea Moisture was acquired by Unilever, so I’m guessing the formulas have been updated and tweaked. So many formulas have had to be tweaked since 2020 because of supply issues. Have you checked out the Miche deep conditioner…it’s amazing.
I bought the briogeo shampoo after the one brand wash day, but I haven't grabbed the gel yet. ........add new product to the wishlist..... Oh and my husband has really been struggling with his scalp. So it sounds like the Miche would be really good for him.
How many days do you usually go between wash days? I have been playing around with my curly hair journey and as someone who has washed their hair daily for many years, I am trying to figure out what works best.
Before I started getting into caring for my waves I had to wash every other day or my hair looked terrible. I find that if I shampoo twice (definitely play around with the best products to keep your hair from getting too stripped - though the natural oils you keep in your hair for longer help with that, I think), I can go 4 days easily, and can stretch to 6 on a good week! Though sometimes I need a dry shampoo for day 5 or 6 - or just rock the messy bun. 😄That said, I'm blessed with a scalp that won't get itchy for all those days unless it's a heatwave and I'm constantly sweaty, or don't double-cleanse. Not everyone can do that, so don't push your scalp beyond what it can handle. But if you're not super-sensitive you could try shampooing twice, use a good conditioner, don't put much product on the scalp (I can get away with not putting any up there usually, which probably helps push my wash days out but not everyone can do that), and see whether your scalp or your hair becomes a problem first. You *might* find that a good dry shampoo helps a bit with scalp itch because it absorbs the oils, but if you're prone to folliculitis or something like that you probably shouldn't push too far.
I used to feel that I would get greasy after one day. Now I have gone up to 4 days. My hair is not long enough to put up in a bun and after day 3 I do feel frizzy, but no scalp sensitivity or even feeling/looking greasy. With weather changing in northeast I will have to keep experimenting.
Both work similarly. My personal preference is the Pantene, but prell accomplishes the same purpose. I like giving options which is why I've mentioned the prell before.
Id love if you could talk about hard water! I know about the filters but i cant afford one. My favorite shampoo bar is no longer good for me and neither is the dr bronners. They build up so quickly and make my scalp so miserable!
I don't have hard water, but my partner does so I've had to look into this a little bit (still I'm new to this problem, so be aware I'm not an expert!). If you can't get a filter yet I recommend regularly descaling and cleaning your shower head. I've seen suggestions of once every month or two in very hard water areas, but every 3-6 months might be enough if it's more medium-hard. There are a lot of guides online on how to do this, and most suggest using white vinegar to descale but two points on that: 1) it can cause some corrosion to appliances and shower heads with long term use, so read up on that risk to make your decision, and 2) if you haven't de-scaled in a long time/ever, I recommend buying a purpose-made descaler to give it a really good clean, just this once. They aren't expensive (it might depend what's available to you, but I bought a box with three uses' worth for less than £2 in the UK) and it works a lot quicker than soaking overnight in vinegar (shouldn't corrode your shower or smell like vinegar either!). But whatever method you choose, descaling can be a help in cleaning out the shower head so it works better, lasts longer, and might be a bit kinder to your hair because the water isn't also going through old limescale build up before it gets to your head. Then try a chelating shampoo, or one that says it's made for hard water, as a clarifying shampoo. You could maybe use it for 2-3 washes in a row to clean off the existing build up before just using it when you'd usually clarify, but that's your call because your hair might be a bit dry with a lot of clarifying in a short space of time - should solve the build up issue quicker though, which might be causing your more trouble, especially if you've got a good deep conditioner to help reduce the drying effect of multiple clarifying wash days. You can look up recommendations for chelating/hard water shampoos online, but some examples off the top of my head include the olaplex clarifying shampoo, or Aveeno's apple cider vinegar shampoo (that one's not *as* chelating but it does help, and is a lot cheaper!). Also, when time come you can get a filter, I would do a lot of research on what types there are and what you actually need. There are a lot of options, many of which do different things, and it can get confusing. Though if you know anyone who lives near you who has one they like, that might be a good place to get a recommendation because you'll likely have the same water coming through your pipes!

Courtney,
Thank you for this fantastic and comprehensive video of hair products. As my brown fine hair turns silver white, it has become wavy-curly, which I love. You are so dynamic when you are speaking, I adore viewing you.
I will try the products you suggest... Again, I appreciate all the work you have put into these videos and hair care journey.
Thank you so so much! This is so sweet!
Can you reupload without background music ?
Yes, the background music was very distracting.
I'm so sorry that the music was too loud! It sounded ok when I edited it and double checked it before uploading it. I also tried to pick a song that I thought was cute. 😖 Really sorry it was distracting!
It was just really repetitive after 20 minutes. I agree that I found myself wishing the music would stop. Thank you for the helpful video!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtneyI think it might be subjective as I didn’t notice the background music until I saw these comments….

Throwing some of these in a cart ASAP. Thank you!
Glad this helped!
Prell is my go to clarifying shampoo. It too, has very few ingredients and is super affordable.
Never considered that one…..thanks for the suggestion.
What perfect timing of this video, I was just wondering what your fave products were!
I have to try that briogeo gel again bc a couple of years ago it didn’t leave an impression on me and I gave it away.
Yay love perfect timing!
Thanks for doing this even though you don’t like to. I enjoy watching people’s favorite videos because as a Consumer I trust it more than sponsored content. But I also understand that just because someone doesn’t like a product doesn’t make it a bad product, that’s very true!
Yes! Love that last part! Everyone is different!
This is so true! I've seen so many people rave about the curl smith souffle, but for me it flash dries my hair and I end up with a dry frizzy mess. 😭 Still, I fully believe that it's great for a lot of other people! We really all just have different hair!
i'v enoticed the same thing!! a lot of previously sulfated shampoos are now sulfate free and i was almost skeptical about it lol
Very true!!! Season's can greatly affect one hair and how it reacts to other products.
Thanks for the great video! I definitely need to try the Briogio gel!!
Hope you like it!
WOW!! So good Courtney!!! Well done 🎉
Thank you so much!
I love the curlsmith multitasking conditioner and it smells wonderful. I want to try the hairspray but am worried as my hair hates all of their gels. Loves the other products but not the gel.
Can you replace your styling cream with the briogeo heat protectant cream?
We have a gel here in Australia called 'Davroe Construct' and I KNOW you would love it. See if you can get hold of it somehow! I would love to see what you think of it. I've been using it for years.
has anyone used Calia shampoo and cream rinse? supposed to be extremely healthy.
I'm so excited that you actually repied to my comment! I have one of your hopeful t-shirts and I wear it constantly!!
You really helped me in my early days. And I love that you responded. I will always watch what you are doing
Now do you only use the Shea moisture trio only work together, or do you also use them individually? Thank for the best of!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtneyAlso, Gena Marie has different hair than you-coarse.
Tia
Yes, it was the single styler I used in the CurlSmith one brand Washday video. I find that I have to use a ton of it.
@@maryc6091this is why I like buying them from Ulta. You can return it if it isn't working out.
How much do you use of the Curlsmith Wave Spray?
You look absolutely beautiful & radiant in this video! I *hope* that means the detox is working for you. 🙏🏼
Thank you so much!
I really really enjoyed this video. Unfortunately I have no product favorites, not sure why but I will be trying some of yours. Do you have a shampoo or conditioner that you really like, that contains silicone? I’d really love to find out. Ty
I really liked the Redken. Acidic bonding concentrate shampoo and conditioner. I believe those container a silicone.
Try the neutragena anti residue shampoo
Your hair will literally be “squeaky clean “…. No smell
Thank you for this video!
I’m thinking experimenting with the 1-2-3 gel method. Is the Sheamoisture Milk Gel best suited as the soft hold, medium hold, or strong hold layer?
I’m excited to try this product!
I’m so glad you like this video! I think the Shay moisture milk gel could work in the soft hold or medium hold spot in 1 2 3 gel
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Thank you!
I've done a few fragrance free lines here and more have come out since! I have struggled with this too... But that is a tough allergy to have!
I love that Pantene volumizing shampoo, so that means they will discontinue it. They always discontinue my favorites.
is the Milk Gel discontinued? Since your product video I have been wanting to try it, but it has been sold out on the brand website and not in stock in any store I have been in!!!
Hmm... the link I have description shows it is available.
Love your reviews! So thoughtful
Thank you!
Your eyes are so beautiful. Extra shiny in this video.
If you have to shower at the gym due to a time crunch, what products would you recommend?
Love that you love their deep conditioner and leave-in! 🥰
Have you tried Kinky Curly Come Clean? It's my favorite clarifying shampoo!
@@jessg.829 I have not tried that yet! Thanks for the rec, I'm going to check it out. 🙂
After watching your video, I went to the drug store to buy Pantene Volume & Body and couldn’t find. Then I thought, we’ll I guess it’s not in Canada yet. Then I went online to find it both in Canada and USA and couldn’t find it. Help me Courtney!!!!! Tia
Thanks for truth telling!
Absolutley!
I have checked out those deep conditioners. I adore them.
I bought the briogeo shampoo after the one brand wash day, but I haven't grabbed the gel yet.
........add new product to the wishlist.....
Oh and my husband has really been struggling with his scalp. So it sounds like the Miche would be really good for him.
Ohh yes worth a shot!
I bought it too but the gel was too harsh. Love the shampoo and conditioner
How many days do you usually go between wash days? I have been playing around with my curly hair journey and as someone who has washed their hair daily for many years, I am trying to figure out what works best.
I can only do 2-3 days before my scalp gets bad. I've tried stretching out but it didn't work and that's okay! Do what works best for you!
Have u tried frizz ease products?
I did back in college. I remember them feeling really greasy on my hair. But that was a long time ago.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney would u mind doing a current review?
Thanks
How about Prell for a clarifying shampoo? Is that just as good as Pantene?
Both work similarly. My personal preference is the Pantene, but prell accomplishes the same purpose. I like giving options which is why I've mentioned the prell before.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Thank you!
your first hair picture looks like my hair right now haha
Also great video thanks
Thank you!
It's been a while but I discussed it here! Hard Water and Your Hair and What to Do About It! : th-cam.com/video/hLDPE19TeH8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you both so much!
The music in the background is very loud.
Thanks for letting me know
I feel like your hair had more volume a year ago
Hmmm interesting!
the leave in conditioner called curl on and the line called my curly way not my curl way.
