    I got fitted in March and came away with the regular Mavrik irons, smaller blade and less offset than the Max and the feel is great. They really shine on miss hits, so much better than anything else I tried

    I bought the Ping G710 irons in March this year- best iron set I’ve ever owned. My shots go just as long as my old iron set (Callaway), but in addition to being more forgiving, they go much higher with more spin, and hold greens much better. James R is too harsh on the sound. These G710 irons sound just fine; perhaps slightly higher pitched compared to a typical cavity backed iron, but you aren’t even aware of any sound difference while you play outdoors.

      Hi Dave, how do the clubs look? Are they looking scratched and worse for wear?

    • @davetourtelotte9748
      @davetourtelotte9748 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve only had them one season (Ping released the clubs in 2020), but i’m happy with the low amount of visible wear after a season of 30-40 rounds. My G710 set is 5-PW, UW, SW. Most of the irons still look like new. My SW is the exception, but the wear of that SW club isn’t too bad. I use my SW a lot; almost all approach shots from 10-105 yds, plus 1/2 of all bunker shots. The courses I typically play (MN) have coarse, wet sand, so I need to swing pretty hard to get the ball out of these bunkers. Coarse, wet sand wears off any finish, chrome, Nickel, or the black PVD finish on the G710s. That being said, the wear on the SW isn’t so much any ugly scratches, THE wear is the black PVD finish on the sole is a little faded in color, which is ok for me. Bottom line: Surprisingly good wear characteristics of the black PVD finish.

    Can agree, the ping performance is as mentioned... but felt terrible in the hands when hitting. Can confirm my top two after a fitting was maverik and jpx.

    I understand it marketing, but just put a 6 on the 7iron because that's what it is. It would also eliminate the 3 wedges they give you. Keep up the great work James!

      Same here. Coming from performance blades, I don’t care for the offset, thicker top line and general look but I DO care for 20% more birdies, 50% less double bogeys or worse and lowered my 63 year old handicap from 6 to 3 in one year. The biggest difference I found over my old blades was the one thing I was concerned about that proved to be opposite.
      Distance control. Much more consistent with my Maxies. I can trust my yardages and swing away.

      I agree 100%. I game them after trying many of the popular irons from 2019-2020 and they were perfect for me. They are just smaller than the max and have less offset, and are super easy to launch and go forever. The sound and feel is extremely under appreciated in my opinion as well.

    Hi James, really like your videos, well presented, and always a bit of fun as well as great information and stats. Big Thumbs Up. However... I have watched this video a few times now and I don't get your explanation about dismissing the SIM Max OS. Yes they are bigger, but for me, as a newby to golf, I would say they are different clubs completely from the standard SIM Max as the lofts are significantly different, plus being bigger face, giving a bigger sweet spot and most likely heavier. As I said I am new to Golf (26 Handicap) and am looking to buy new irons this year SIM Max OS is top of the list before I even hit them. Where am I going wrong?. How about a video on SIM Max vs SIM Max OS and who they would work for. I can't see why they would be worse than your number 1 the G710. Sorry am I being thick? 7 iron OS 27 deg, SIM 7 iron 28.5 deg, Ping G710 7 iron 29.5 deg. Just don't get why you dismissed them. Happy to come and try them out!

    • @bugscorb
      @bugscorb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would they not be different strengths so it would't be comparing like with like? My current 7 iron is 33 degrees and would no way compete with any of these clubs 7 irons, some of which are closer to my 5 iron loft wise.

    • @kennedygolfhead4356
      @kennedygolfhead4356 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bugscorb I see your point. But something must be constant in the varying golf clubs for the purpose of comparison, right? What's the point of arguing apples when looking at an orange? Within oranges (5 irons) what's different was what I'd requested. But I see your point too.

As far as irons that could’ve been in I’d say maybe the Titleist T300s. Recently went on holiday and played a round with them as a rental set and they were quite nice. Great sound and performance without being overly offensive looking like the T400s. Great video!

    Hi, my handicap is 12.7 and I've been as low as 9.2 (just saying I'm not a beginner) , so maybe this is a dumb question, maybe not.
    Why dont good players (like yourself) play with Game improvement irons if they go as far, are more forgiving on the odd bad shot you hit, and seem to perform for you?
    I dont understand why you would pick a harder club to hit, thats less forgiving, just because your off scratch-5??
