    I'm a 74 yr old 8 handicap senior. Just got fitted for the Ping G710. 6 through "U" . I don't care how they sound. They are amazingly straight and add a few more yards. The one thing that really stands out about these is the backspin they put on the ball especially with the 8 though U irons. The clubhead feels very light especially when you shallow the club before impact. Resulting in more speed. I got midsized grips and what a difference!

    My top 5:
    1) Cleveland Launcher XL Halo, 2) Titleist T300, 3)Callaway Apex DCB, 4) Mizuno Hot Metal Pro, 5) Srixon ZX4

    Bought the Apex 21 with the Recoil 75 UST shafts. Traded in the Apex Pro '17's. So went to a more forgiving style. And for those who think i'm a Calloway only person, I game the Mizuno ST200 driver and 3 wood. Waiting on Mizuno to offer us Lefties a 5 wood.
    I shot 70 a few weeks back. Lowest round ever. previous was 73. Mind you I was 69 at the time so almost shot my age. I generally slightly fade the ball but can draw the ball with these irons. My handicap has dropped to 9.
    I think i'm staying with these....😛

    Just got the Titleist T300. I wanted a Ping G425 because I have ping G425 driver/woods, but the T300 just fitted me better. I hit smoother, further, just better. Plus they look thinner than the chunky G425 so that helps. For my fitting it was also gonna be cheaper by a couple hundred dollars so it’s a no brainer

    For real value try the Wilson Launch Pad or Cleveland Launcher HB - I own the former and they are 2/3rds the cost of your top 5 and I love them. It’s very hard to chunk them on the fairway.

    Got fitted last year at a PGA Superstore. Went in planning on buying the Mizuno Hot Metals, tried everything, ended up getting the Srixon ZX7s. They (like a lot of new irons) are “ loft jacked”. With new clubs and practice, went from an 18 to 15. I am very happy with my Srixons, and I think these will gain in popularity. Looking forward to being a 12 in 2022 (fingers crossed X)!

    My coach, who is also a Titleist fitter, recommended the T300 for me. But when I tried it compared to the T200, the T200 felt a bit lighter through the swing, and didn't make a huge difference to my consistency. So I got the T200s. I've been playing with them now for a year and I love these irons, and I've improved more, too! Good move, James, not putting the T400 at the top. They are too big in my opinion, and rather overpriced.

      The best deal is probably the Callaway Edge at Costco - 500$ for 10 clubs (driver, 3W, 5H, 6i-SW, Odyssey putter). It's a re-issue of the X2Hot from in the past. The DCB is like a modernised forged version of those, but similar. Combined with the Kirkland wedges, you have 13 clubs for 650$ or so (690£). Perhaps the best deal around.

    In June I started looking to replace my original Ping Eyes that I had been using for nearly 40 yrs. In South Dakota there was very limited stock to choose from in Ping & Titleist. T300s weren't available to try there. I was most consistent with T400s of the those models that were available. They were really easy to hit off the deck with the wider sole since it makes it more difficult to "chuck" it. What was pleasantly surprising was the minimum of 10 yds gain in distance on every club with the ability to still stop very well with Srizon ZV's 2021 version

    Having bought Mizuno JPX 850 irons a few years back, I really wasn’t satisfied with the performance. I decided to go to a unbiased fitter (club champion) there I went through at least ten different companies including the ones that you considered forgiving. When it came down to forgiveness, shafts, And swing weights, I was quite surprised that the Ben Hogan PTx pro were best suited for me (10 handicap) very forgiving! But then again I was fitted by a company that doesn’t push any certain lines, just what is best for your own personal game! I’m really Quite surprised that many of you “reviewers” I’ve seen, there is no mention of the Hogan line! I guess Ben Hogan doesn’t pay reviewers!!

  • @1funkybasslady
    @1funkybasslady 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think it is interesting that you summarily dismissed the Titleist T400 because you don't like the "chunky" look. As a former 3-handicapper who used to play "blades" ('78 Wilson Staffs with steel stiff flex shafts), and who has aged and lost loads of strength and distance, I've tried all the clubs in this review AND the T400. The T400 is far and away the easiest to hit, most forgiving and longest hitting club of them all. Yes, they are super strong-lofted and long-shafted. These are the attributes that makes them the distance winner, but because of the weighting in the sole, they also launch the ball high. The offset puts the hands in the proper position at address. This helps the golfer get a good start at a good swing at the outset. Simply put, you can't miss! As we know, you can't make a good swing from a bad setup. These clubs help to produce a good setup. Oh and BTW, I don't mind the "chunky look" in the least. It is confidence-inspiring. I don't think Titleist "missed the mark" at all.
    Your videos are great, James, but I believe that you "missed the mark" on this one by letting your personal professional-level-player bias prevail when you eliminated the T400. I would guess that mid/high 'cappers really don't have that bias. They are looking for help getting the ball airborne with the lease amount of effort. The T400 does that. Yes, the T300's are great-looking, forgiving, all that, but they don't produce the distance, high launch angles and forgiveness of the T400's, AND they aren't as easy to hit.
    As an aside...I had the T400's, was hitting them great, but I decided to ditch them for something "better." Biggest mistake of my late-in-life golfing "career!" They are now back in my bag, and I am, once again, a happy camper. It will take some kind of miracle club to get me off these in the future.
    James, in the future, please leave your personal bias at the door when reviewing Game Improvement and so-called "Super Game Improvement" clubs. Those types of clubs are not for a golfer of your caliber in the first place. They are designed for those who are not professionals and probably never will be. The are designed to make the game easier and more fun for the rest of us! 😉

    I got fitted with the updated 2019 m2 irons that you can still get brand new today so thought it was worth mentioning. Half the price of the newer 2021 irons ( £460 for 5 to sw ) and they are fantastic for forgiveness and distance. Only biggest complaint is there is a huge gap in distance between pw and sw so had to get myself a gap wedge. Would recommend to any mid/highhandicapper

Much thinner top line, but tons of forgiveness like a Ping or SIM2. Plus great distance without super jacked lofts that cause you the huge 20 year long miss every once in a while!

    Thanks for your input, James. After getting fitted for irons this past week, it came down to the Srixon CX5'S and the Ping G 425's. Both hit straight, high, and consistent. Way more forgiving than the new Wilsons, of which I had the Wilson 100's in my bag for several years. Could not go wrong with either the Srixons or the Pings because they both look and hit great. My fitter said the numbers were better in every area with the Pings, so those will be my new clubs, but like everything else in these times, I will have a few weeks of waiting anxiously before I can go pick up my custom Pings!

  • @williamjones1143
    @williamjones1143 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Got to figure the “high handicap iron” is “strong lofted” because they figure they need the extra distance more. Plus short club generally equals better strike.

    • @dmkfactor1721
      @dmkfactor1721 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the distance, high handicappers need the help getting the ball airborne, and all these clubs have super low cgs to help with that, add to that the size of the sweet spot and over all iron length and that’s what makes a game improvement iron a game improvement iron! The distance part is to try to attract mid handicappers looking to hit a 7 iron like Bryson at 200 yards!
