    Good information , I remember people saying my male 700 gram ball python was going to stop eating when I upgrade his enclosure from a 20 gallon to a 4 by 2 by 1 back in March. But he never acted stressed and has never skipped a meal since then. So I agree sometimes it's ok, to go against the standard

    I recently upgraded my juvenile male BP into a 4x2x2 (roughly) naturalistic enclosure, with 3 hides, climbing branches, live plants, etc, and he loves it!! It's so nice to see him exploring, and he's more confident than ever! Whenever I hear people saying that all ball pythons are shy and should be in a small RUB, I just think it's people that have never actually tried giving them the opportunity of a more enriching environment (imo anyway)

    This! It frustrates me so much when I hear people talk about their ball pythons being "pet rocks" and then find out they're being kept in an empty 20 gal aquarium or a rack. Exactly what opportunity have they been given to move around and interact with anything? Mine's in a 4x2x2 now, and I'm already considering a bigger upgrade because I see just how much he uses the space and everything I can fit in it.
    (I actually got into exotic pet keeping through betta fish, and that was the exact same deal. Give them space to move and plant heavily to break up the sight lines in their tank/enclosure so they don't feel so exposed all the time and watch how much activity and personality follows).

    My girl started as a baby in a 40g, but by the time she was 200 grams I moved her into a 4x2x2 with a basking shelf and manzanita branches

    Get a cheap hair dryer! If you end up w a snake that doesn't wanna eat frozen thawed a lot of times it's a temp or texture thing. Mine will not eat a wet rat or anything under about 95°. So after you thaw your rodent, hit it with the hair dryer until that temp gun is reading your rodent at that 95°ish temp and that can save you a lot of frustration and money. Some woman you know probably has one she never touches anymore lol.

    Very interesting that you put gerbils. Haven't thought of gerbils.
    Mine are on a rat staple. However, I have a friend who breeds rabbits and she had a bad year with a lot of first time mama rabbits and had A LOT of baby bun buns that didn't make it. So I got like 3 dozen newborn buns for like $50 and once a month would feed my snakes bunnies. They're about the same size as a small rat, just with a bigger head. And my snakes never refused to eat them.

    Great video! Could you give recommendations for wood and plants?

    • @reptiliangarden
      @reptiliangarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out joshsfrogs.com they have so many different kinds of wood options for reptiles

    • @agentelvis81
      @agentelvis81 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dried Cypress is good, also Manzanita. Check eBay. I have a cypress place near my house luckily. I'm probably their best customer lol. Any wood that dries fairly hard, and has been baked on low-temperature to dry it out thoroughly as well as kill bugs, etc is pretty good. As far as plants, check online for toxicity in snakes, go for sturdy plants. Ones you can smush with your hand and they spring back instead of breaking are good. Pothos is an excellent, non-toxic, hardy plant that works for beginners, and is very nice looking. It grows fast and in vines so you can drape it over sticks and whatnot as it grows which helps fill-out your enclosure and provides cover for your snake.

    I can only afford one more BP. I'm thinking of getting a piebald (any piebald) or a banana. Can you help me decide?
    Anyway this video is really informative. You are doing a very good job. Thank you so much. Please continue making more reptile videos.

    My Ball became more active than ever when she was upgraded to a 150 gallon enclosure with lots of hides, wood, etc. People who keep their snakes in small tubs don't deserve pets. That's a fact.
