    Good stuff! only a couple things id note. If you for some reason need a heat mat (cold room temps, not wanting to use ceramics/ radiant panels) use a thermostat. It will prevent the burning of the snakes belly and neurological damage which can happen at 95F+ i keep a hot spot of 88-90 and an ambient hot side temp of 84/85 at all times.
    Keep in mind ball pythons natural source of heat is basking. Its unatural for heat to come from below but if you must use heat pads again thermostat all the way. All that really matters is they have heat and a bit of infared which can come from a ceramic or uvb bulb

    Awesome setup I'd camoflage the PVC with dark green paint and some fake vines that would top it off.

      That is an EXCELLENT idea! We painted it grey, but that didn’t work out too well. If you’ve done this, please share a picture. We’d love to see it. It’s an awesome idea!

    I know I’m late to this video, but there is something I wanna point out to you guys in the future. Ball pythons tend to get bored of easily, especially as a baby, so more things to climb on and explore are key to a successful habitat,

      You know I'm starting to notice that with my 8 month old. I wake up in the morning and there's tracks everywhere, things are knocked over and moved. So are smaller tanks really better? Wouldnt that make tubs unnatural if not cruel? Also hides need to be closed off, not open on both sides!! Otherwise it's not a hide😊

    Should have given it climbing space, ball pythons will use it when its provided

      The large cork round gets within 3” of the top. Once in a while he’ll get up there, but he actually doesn’t use it much. Like anything, he’s an individual.

    Is it glass like a fish tank? Also we're there 3 heat lamps at the end? Looks brilliant.

    • @FamilyTanks

      Hello. It’s a 20 gallon long fist tank. He’s actually almost outgrown it already. Only the middle light is a heat emitter. The side lights are cool LEDs. We use the heat emitter along with a heat mat controlled by a thermostat.

    Where did you found that cool bark at

    • @FamilyTanks
      @FamilyTanks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Jacob! We got it from a local pet store. It’s called a cork round. The sell flats, half-rounds and rounds. Light, resist rot, and aren’t too expensive. You’ll find a better deal at smaller shops vs the big box companies.

      That’s just light diffuser from a hardware store.

    What are the 3 different lights

    • @FamilyTanks
      @FamilyTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The one in the center is a ceramic heat emitter and the two on the sides are LEDs just for light. Being nocturnal, Balls don’t “require” UV, however when we upgrade his enclosure, we’ll probably add it to go that extra step towards “perfect”.

    What is the substrate called? I am getting my own snake in a few months and I am trying to gather the best stuff I can use for my snakes enclosure :D

    • @FamilyTanks
      @FamilyTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s awesome! What kind of snake are you getting! We use coco chips, which are little pieces of coconut husk. They retain humidity well.

      I am getting a ball python, not sure what morph yet but a ball python is for sure! And thank you for telling me the substrate

    Where did you get the background at?

  • @jasoncovert9051

    Why don't you and your daughter take all that back to the store build a PVC rack together and probably take care of your snakes this is not it

    • @FamilyTanks
      @FamilyTanks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thank you for the comment, however we choose to enjoy our pets in a way that allows us to view them in a natural and aesthetically pleasing way. There’s more than one “right” way to do this hobby. That’s why it’s so much fun.

      i'm curious on what you mean? not like the "you should take that back blah blah blah" but by the racks and how you think they would be better? i don't mean to come off as rude in any way i'm just generally curious on what you mean ty:)

    • @zuezsz
      @zuezsz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lemonsrswag7257 I'm guess send everything he bought for snake back to the store , and build a pvc rack for the snake
