I cant thank you enough for this video. I wanted to replace this and after i saw this video I called my junk guy and went to best buy. Thank you again!
You've installed the seal backwards (and you greased its outside edge), so you'll have bearing issues again soon with this washer. Do-it-youserlfers watching this video: don't do that! The exposed sprung lip has to face the bearings, whereas the flat side of the seal faces the basket. The seal is not designed to work the opposite way and will fail (and let water quickly ruin the bearings) sooner than later if installed backwards. As for the grease, you never want to put it where the seal makes contact with the plastic (and/or metal) of the hub. To the contrary, you want these surfaces to be clean, shiny and dry, so the seal can stick stick there as much as possible, as tightness is the only thing holding it in place. You only want to grease the inside lip, where the seal presses against the shaft. One more thing, important too: unlike what is shown in this video, the seal, provided that it's the correct seal for your machine, has to be pushed all the way in. You want to make sure it sits well at the bottom of the cavity. Otherwise, rubbing and leaks are to be expected. To the author if this video: Sorry! I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful! Just want to help. Thanks!
I feel like the seal would only go in one way but it has been close to 3 years now so I could be wrong. That said, bearings are still ok after that amount of time. Thanks for the details. I'll definitely refer back to this if I have to do it again! Or, I'll just buy a new one!
I pretty much just work on my own stuff so I don't know what it would cost to fix yours. I had to look up what the spider drum was you were talking about 🤣. Looks like it would be less involved than the bearings, though.
The whole reason I chose to watch this video was to see how you removed the old bearing. Mine is really stuck and I need some pointers. Do you have a link to where to get the bearings and seal?
Thank Steve! I assume the shaft was attached to the steel drum? You did not show it. Top loading Maytag video calls for shaft replacement in addition to the bearings (optional).
It's been a while and I forget stuff but I believe that is correct 😀. I don't remember if the shaft was serviceable apart from the drum or not. The video I refer to in the description may show it better. Good luck!
Steve, please help! I have the same washing machine, I followed your video exactly and have the washing machine completely apart. The bearing I purchased on Amazon is wrong. I proceeded to call repair clinic and they informed me that I need to buy the rear drum and the bearing as one. In other words, they are not sold separately. They want $405 plus tax and shipping. I really thought I would be able to buy the bearing kit for reasonable cost. Do you have any advice? Thanks Brian
Thanks for your video! I think I have the same washer model. I bought mine 10 years ago and I'm wondering if I should buy a new one or repair it because it works great except for the bearings. How old is your washer? Thanks!
I believe it is about the same age as yours. For me it was worth it to fix it myself. Probably not if I had to pay someone to do it. We'll see how long these bearings last but so far so good!
@@kcstever1 Yeah, I was hoping to eliminate taking it completely apart. Thanks for this video and your answer! I need to get this puppy finished, laundry is stacking up!

Thanks for the video was weighing my options on replacement or repair. Looks like replacement is my best option.
Definitely cheaper!
Removing the rear counter weight you don't have to take top bracket off and also lightens the load for removal
Great idea! I thought about removing those weights after the fact. Too late.
Very good video. Congratulations.
Sir how much repair washing machine now because my washing machine broke spider drum

thanks steeve for the video, could you give us the size or, at least, i link to find bearing kit for the model : MHW6000AW0

I ordered mine from this link. Hopefully they will have one to fit your model number. Good luck!

Yes, in the description I have links to another video that helped me as well as where I ordered the part. Good luck!
Spray some oil / PB Blaster around the contact edge. Let it sit a few hours. Try again. Eventually with this process it will loosen and come out.
I have the same washer with same issue. Do you by chance have the part #'s for the bearings and seal? Thanks
Go here and enter your washer model: www.yellowvanhandyman.com/KitCart/AddModel.aspx?p=1

Thank you. I truly appreciate the video and your help.
Thanks for the great video. How did you get the old bearings out? What did you use?
Hi Steven. Check out th-cam.com/video/x8LwSi-SRZY/w-d-xo.html starting at about 6:55. I used pretty much the same method he did.
Great job
Thank you for the video! What Model number is the one you are repairing in the video?
Hi Lisa. It's model mhwe400ww01
I'm going to attempt this on a model MHWE450WW02. Hope it works! @@kcstever1

Mine maytag 4000 series model mhwe400ww01 I tried to find bearing part number but I cannot right one. Can anyone help me?
Try going to this site, click the Buy Now button and it will ask you for your model #: www.yellowvanhandyman.com/washerrepair.aspx
Did you find you HAD to replace one bearing from inside? You couldn't replace both from the outside?
The inner bearing must be replaced on the inner side of the tub. There is no other way to tap the new one into place. Is that what you are asking?
@@kcstever1 Yeah, I was hoping to eliminate taking it completely apart. Thanks for this video and your answer! I need to get this puppy finished, laundry is stacking up!
How much was the bearing? Thank you
The bearings and seals were around $80 plus tax/shipping. www.yellowvanhandyman.com/washerrepair.aspx
how many hours did you put into this repair?
Doing the video added time but probably around 3 hours... maybe 4?
please let me ask. What bearings does this washing machine use. i need to buy it but i don't know its info. Thank you!
Hi, Tin. I looked up my washer model and ordered bearings from here: www.yellowvanhandyman.com/washerrepair.aspx
My bearing was so destroyed it was disintegrating inside. I had to pound shaft to get it out.
