Honestly, I've never met someone who didn't like Subspace Emissary. It was Brawl's strongest suit. If you don't like that, you don't like Brawl. In my opinion it's the best thing the Smash series has ever had to offer. And, Subspace can be completed in a shorter time than 10 hours, as long as you aren't going for 100%. Give it... maybe 6 hours for a basic run-through.
I actually played through the story recently with my brother on intense difficulty. It was a nice way to kill the afternoon and i forgot how short it really is
Dude I play subspace so damn much. The one thing I don't understand is how people can hate the Great Maze so much. Sure its long, but you get to play around in this sand box full of enemies and you can choose the characters you play as. Its literally the best part and everyone hates it for how long it is, when you guys should be happy its long because of how damn good it is.
I feel weird for liking the Subspace Emissary mode in Brawl. It was the most fun I had in a Smash game because my sisters don't like me kicking their asses in multiplayer all the time.
In my opinion Melee: Great if you have other people who are about at your skill level (not just talking about your skill level) to play with for some fast pace fighting game experience. Brawl: Much better if you take it as much more of a party sandbox title then a traditional fighter for a fun time with everyone, regardless what skill level they are in comparison Something I've never quite understood when others go over Brawl are some of the features it had and the improvements made to Smash Bros more 'for fun' aspects. Items for example. How you could dash and grab an item which made things feel about 5x smoother then Melee's items. Plus, though still definitely imbalanced (like they were ever suppose to be balanced,) items didn't make things feel one sided like they did in Melee where most of the items felt either worthless, or complete instant kill which isn't any fun. There was also Brawl's special mode where you could mix and match things like sudden death, hot curry mode, bunny mode, giant mode, and so many crazy combinations making for some very enjoyable ways to play if you got tired of just going by traditional stock rules. I could go on, but to me. Melee is like Smash 4's online For Glory mode, and Brawl is like Smash 4's online For Fun mode. I can never really say one is better because they both feel great for what they do. :I
I just realized this comment probably made a target sign by some people who take the franchise a bit too seriously. ... eh, whatchya gonna do? *sits down and eats some popcorn*
TheLeetCasualGamer The problem with all of this is that melee can still be played on a casual level, an equal extent to brawl. And as long as that's the case, the speed of both games still get in the way. Some people still won't like the fast pace of melee and some people still won't like the slow pace of brawl. It's still all about whatever you're used to. I just simply don't enjoy Brawl's speed, so if I were to play a smash game with all items and stuff, I'd play Melee.
Spidertendo 64 Melee is sort of overrated. Sure it brought competitive into Smash, but it had broken mechanics that went over to be abused and endless clones. It's worse than Brawl and Sm4sh but is still an excellent game.
Aleksa Bogdanović There are 3 reasons why I perfer Melee over Brawl. 1. It feels more fast paced. You might find it as a minor thing but to me, It feels like everyone in Brawl, is in slowmo. Sorry but speed is one of the things that can make me fell the intensity of an epic fight and because Brawl is slow paced, I don't get as much satisfaction whenever I KO an opponent. 2. This one is the most subjective reason out of them all but I like the music more in Melee then I do in Brawl. But admidedly, compared to Smash bros 4 it does fall flat on it's face. 3. Random Tripping! Huge facepalm! I would've liked Brawl more than Melee if it weren't for Random Tripping! And you can't turn the option off so yeah! Really dumb idea! I don't want to cause a flame war or anything In fact If you like Brawl more than Melee, that fine and you stated your side (Brawl better than Melee) and I stated mine (Melee better than Brawl) But regardless, we can all agree that Smash bros 4 is best in the series.
I prefer Melee but I really can't stand all of those people who just tell you screw every other Smash game, only play Melee. I know Melee is more competitive but it's just too overrated with the community now.
Personally, I really enjoyed Brawl more than Melee. Not to say I thought Melee was bad, far from that actually. I just had more fun with Brawl. Yeah, I hated the change with Target Smash and some of the sections from Melee's Classic mode I really did miss like Race to the Finish, but other than that, Brawl was really fun. I never touched Project M, in case people would say that would change my opinion. Smash 4 is still the best so far though imo. Better roster, better stages, better final smashes, better customization for both fighters and stages, and an online mode that I've only experienced lag on when playing against someone that had shit internet.
Swift_Heracross Aside from tripping and new items, gameplay didn't seem to change much for me. I was never one of the ones that got super invested in the deep mechanics of Smash, so the games seemed the same gameplay-wise if you turned all items off.
A few years later, interestingly it seems the general consensus towards Brawl and Melee has reversed: Brawl has become the more beloved one whilst Melee, while still loved, has been subject to much harsher criticism and a good chunk of the Smash fandom agreeing it has become very overrated. Perhaps Melee's less numerous but more glaring have become harder to ignore as time as gone by? Or has Sm4sh, the new Smash announced, and even Project M taken the wind out of Melee's sales? Heck, I've noticed that the newer comments in this section are mostly praising Brawl and hazing Melee.
Because the generation that grew up with brawl are getting older and since all they see are videos talking about how "toxic" melee fans and how "broken" the game is they assume they know everything about a community and game they arent a part of.
The only problem with brawl is tripping and the slow pace of the game, but it's still amazing and everyone should play it! I love the game and i think people are a bit harsh on it. Coming from a melee fan
Easy for you to say. Try being a Melee enthusiast for 7 years and getting this watered down (from a gameplay perspective) mess with intentional design flaws. People have every right to be incredibly harsh on this game, and it deserves to be in the grave it is today.
Seriously? The random tripping never happens, and if it does, you're only down for a second at most. You people don't need to be so harsh. I'll give you my opinion, Melee is a speedy, chaotic mess. Brawl was slowed and it works fine. The Subspace Emisary was great and was better than Adventure mode, by far. Let's not forget, Brawl introduced ROB, Pokémon Stadium 2, Assist Trophies, Final Smashes and got rid of broken mechanics such as wave dashing. Now there's my opinion , try to be a bit more open minded, ok? You'll live longer.
I don't think the world was ready for Mario's realistic overalls...... Nintendo releases Super Mario odyssey 9 years later with Mario in his underpants and the whole world was changed that day
Reducing the ability to perform advanced movement techniques doesn't make the game any more appealing to casual audiences, it just blocks out the high level competitive players of smash. Reducing the amount of people who want to play your game, is a bad business decision, and also makes certain players hate your game.
The whole point of Brawl is to be a fun experience, no matter how skilled you are. So that makes the game intended more for casual gamers, helping the Wii out.
pink No, as a casual fan myself I find Melee way too fast and way too intimidating. The slower speed of Brawl makes it so much better for me because I don't have to worry about not knowing some crazy hard techs. I just get to play the game and have fun without getting to competitive over it.
Even if you were one of those odd kids who just wanted to play for fun/non-seriously if you had friends they would be more interested in playing seriously in a battle of skill so it's bad reasoning that he used.
Wow, so you're saying that we are wrong because we don't have friends? Well, did you know that not everyone is as super "outgoing" and "cool" and "popular" as you OBVIOUSLY must be, and if you can't tell, that was sarcastic. Also, my brother and I would always play Brawl over Melee, and we still to this day own both games. My brother did end up moving to Melee and he ended up being the exact reason I can't get into the game. He's just way too good for me to compete. That's why I ended up sticking with Brawl in the end, because I couldn't be bothered to sink countless hours into a game just to beat my brother, all while getting carpel tunnel.
This is such a great review. You pointed out the flaws in Brawl but also captured the greatness in it. Also, you gave some light on the competitive scene which is awesome and I like how you admitted to not being very skilled so you didn't bother talking about it. However my complaint is when people say Melee is bad because of the "clone" characters. Yes these characters have the same moveset BUT you cant just use the characters the same. Coming from a competitive play, you cant use Fox and Falco the same. Falco's shine pops you up while Fox's shine knocks you down at an angle. Falco's Laser stuns while Fox's doesnt. Theres many more examples with other characters like how Doc is more kill heavy while Mario is more about combos. I prefer Melee over Brawl because of its fighting mechanics and I like how you mentioned that Brawl IS slower and mechanics are not as good as Melee. Another problem i've been seeing in the comments is that people say that people hate on Brawl too much. Yes some of us Melee players don't like Brawl because it's different and rewards defensive playing but not all of us hate Brawl. Brawl actually had a great influence on the Melee competitive scene as Brawl helped players become more patient in the neutral stage. I dislike it when people call us "Melee fanboys" but its just a preference and I feel like people are entitled to opinions. Project M was created to please us Melee players so that fixed our issues. I hope that I didn't offend anyone with this but we are all Smash Bros fans. Melee is my preference and I haven't touched Brawl in AGES but that does not entitle me to say "Brawl is trash" or "Brawl is cancer to the smash community".
Aside from tripping, the Great Maze, and 'Masterpieces' that were locked off behind specific controller types, I love everything about Brawl. Seriously.
I prefer Melee to Brawl, no contest. Unless Project M is included, which I think is vastly superior to both. I play with competitive rules, so Melee just works better, and is much more exciting. But Project M blows both game out of the water, with 20 stages that can be played on competitively, a roster that has more balanced and viable characters than Melee's full roster, and the ability to mod in custom music easily. Kind of.
Still if you actually played Melee at a higher level then you would be surprised by how Project M lacks the depth that made Melee special. Melee can be played forever because possibilities are open and near endless, in Project M all options are given to you on the Battlefield and it's basically who can execute these strategies the best - rather than creating your own. I am simplifying but it's still interesting and humorous that a mod made by the community just misses the mark while Melee is still the deeper experience. I will say though that on a semi competitive level PM probably provides more to the players but at the top level Melee is actually superior
projectmgame.com/en/news/dev-blogpost-7-trimming-the-fat Even the PM team recognises the many problems the mod has at the moment "In general, we are aiming to increase the depth of the game, while retaining the accessibility that the Smash Bros. series is well regarded for. At the moment, we believe our cast to possess tools that are a little too excessive in terms of flexibility, recovery prowess, punishment and more. This means that we are going through the cast and toning down tools and/or traits that may be seen as superfluous or detract from the game's complexity."
I love melee and project m. Play with the homies on the regular. however I still prefer melee since project m doesn't have light shielding (not yet as of 3.5 anyway). Once they add light shielding and fix the game and watch graphic glitch I will be satisfied. But holy hell are samus and charizard fun as fuck
Dominik Mengel yeah it's all just a subject of opinion neither of these games are better than the other statistically personally i enjoy Brawl more but you will never hear me say Brawl is better than Melee even though i have only played Melee once in my entire life.
I like Melee over Brawl because I like the feel of the gameplay more and I enjoy all of the advanced techniques. That's it. IMO Brawl is better than Melee at everything EXCEPT the gameplay. This is coming from someone who GREW UP with Brawl and the Wii.
This is more detailed in SMB4, but Falco is actually saying, "Hands off my prey." It does sound like Hands of my bread in Brawl, tho. And I admit, I thought thats what he said before 4 came out. -14:40
Imagine if Melee had more time? Balanced G&W, an OK Pichu, ironing out some bugs (not l-canceling, wavedash etc), extended Adventure Mode stages for each characters?
I really don't think tripping was that bad. I mean, yeah, it was really stupid and there was literally no reason at all to include it, but it RARELY happened.
RandomChannel128 It seriously depends on how you play though. Tripping is activated through dashing and the more you dash the more often it happens. I always dash when playing smash so tripping happens to me at least once a match. What are you gonna tell me, don't dash as much?
Lrod Shrek I have heard of PM. I have no desire to play it though. As I'm not really a fan of how Melee plays most of the time. I mean, I don't play Melee competitively so I wouldn't really have a reason. Plus I think the creators made a few bullshit decisions. My favorite Brawl hack is minus as it feels more like a new Smash game I think. Though Vanilla Brawl is my favorite out of all. Though if I were to get PM, it would be to hack and mess around.
I love Brawl, but I have two things to say that made this game evil: Meta Knight and Super Sonic. If you've played Brawl you know what I'm talking about. Nuff said. Also, I've played a bit of Melee and have used the Game Cube controller and the Wiimote will always be my go to. And I don't see the appeal of Melee over Smash 4. Come at me, Melee fanboys... the Flame Shield is up.
The reason why pichu's electric attacks hurt him is basically because sakurai wanted to be faithful to pichu's pokedex entry which stated that his electric attacks hurt him self
I loved Melee as a kid, but for some reason now, it's really hard for me to play. It feels slippery and glitchy to me. Brawl goes at a much easier pace, has Subspace Emissary, which I always had fun, and hadn't quite reached the Trophy spoiler territory that 3DS/U did. Also, Melee has Pichu, Brawl has Wolf, making which one I like more even HARDER to choose. Melee has great music, and Brawl has some wonderful original music, so... I like both! :D In my opinion, though, Melee's Target Match was the best thing in the whole game.
I loved Melee and Brawl! They are fantastic games! Melee was actually the first one I played. I always used Mario and Donkey Kong when I first played those two games. Years later, I was using Kirby a lot and now I play as Link. Once again, a fantastic review!
I tell ya, if they added Crash Bandicoot to this series... HOOOOOOOOOOOOO, BOY. If you thought the Metroid Prime 4 reactions were ridiculously over the top, you've seen NOTHING in comparison to how I'd react to Crash in Smash.
I don't even play the actual Brawl game, I just play Project M. The only time I have ever played the actual Super Smash Bros. Brawl is when I was at a friend's house...
I loved brawl's story mode. Yeah, it was long, but it never dragged for me. Partly because it kept switching between a bunch of different parties. Like, you got Diddy Kong teaming up with Fox and Mario teaming with Pit and Picachu teaming with Samus and Dedede just kinda working behind the scenes on his own plan to save everyone's asses and Meta Knight fighting with the fire emblem guys. Everyone had their own thing going on and it always had me invested.
i think super smash bros brawl is a great game. the only problem i have with it is the tripping and the speed of the game which feels like your on the moon. if they got rid of those 2 mechanics i think that the game would be more enjoyable.
You know for me, when it comes to Melee and Brawl, the way I am towards them are I prefer Brawl, then again I've never played Melee once, in fact I didn't even know Melee existed until I got Brawl. I played and loved Smash 64 as a kid and I still do today, and when I got Brawl, I absoluetly LOVED IT TO DEATH. I love nearly everything about Brawl, even the Subspace Emissary. Yes, I can admit it can dragged on and Tabuu is probably one of the worst villians ever, but I still loved playing through it as my favorite characters. I love the interactions they all have with each other in the cutscenes, even though they don't actually speak to each other, I still love seeing them interact in the cutscenes. Also the Subspace Emissary was how I unlocked every character in the game, and besides from the original 12 (except for Ness and Captain Falcon, I never unlocked them as a kid back in Smash 64) and the starting roster, I had NO IDEA who all of the new fighters (and the fighters from Melee) were going to be, and whenever I ran into a newcomer, it was always a big and wonderful surprise to me and I was always excited to start playing as them. Brawl even had a lot of characters I LOVED to play as such as ROB, Zero Suit Samus, King Dedede, Ike, Pokemon Trainer, and Sonic, and every one of them came back for Smash 4 (except for Squirtle and Ivysaur, I miss Ivysaur. :'( And the custom stages was one of my favorite modes as well, yeah I was pretty limited, but I still made use of what I got and I made some pretty chaotic stages in the mode, I hope it comes back in Smash Wii U with more options and be used online. You know I'm honestly tired of the Melee vs Brawl comparsion, espically the people who shit on Brawl just for having slower physics, guys come on it's Smash, every game in the series is great in their own right and they don't have to be exactly like another installment to be good, each installment has something to them to make them unique and good in it's own right, so enough with the comparsion, it's stupid and pointless, and Smash is all about having fun with your favorite characters and your friends and family, as long as the games are fun and great, then that all that matters, right?
WreckitFinntheSonic It's more rewarding to play. Basically Brawls design if you want to win then CAMP and play defensively. Melee isn't just fast but it is the most aggressive smash game
WreckitFinntheSonic hey,we both had something in common,I played the the 64 one (my 2nd favorite n64 game, next to mario 64.) and then I had a wii in 2010,and a year later I got brawl, and never played melee (didn't have a game cube until after brawl, and even then I didn't have melee,I had super mario sunshine, but not melee. I first play melee on the dolphin.),and loved it. (weird, but I prefer the 64 over brawl, but that's not a bad thing.)
Cole Lapp You obviously like 64 because it feels better to play. It actually has combos for 1. Melee takes a little while to get used too. I suggest you give it a shot later
I love Brawl! I'm getting pretty good at it and my best character's Sonic. Once I get the Smash Ball I wreck havoc but it's so hard to hit them because I can't control it that well XD
People see Brawl's floaty physics as a detriment, while I see it as a blessing in disguise. Brawl was my first Smash, and I enjoyed it for YEARS. Only a few months ago did I actually play Melee, and I found it to be far too heavy, fast, unbalanced and filled with moments where I swear the game does not register my inputs. Also the CPU shouldn't be on level 9 difficulty on Normal should they? Melee is made for hard-core veterans, whereas Brawl is more accessible to newcomers, and I think people take it for granted because of that.
Also...can we please have one god damn video that talks about brawl on its own? Sure Melee may be a better competitive game but...thats about it. Melee is way harder because of the speed. and therefore less fun for a shit ton of people. Brawl is the perfect counterpart to it. So...instead of treating brawl as just a sequel to Melee, we should treat it for what it is: A more casual take on the Smash formula.
I feel like people like you have paid too much attention to the competitive scene to enjoy Melee in a casual way. I always played melee as a kid and brawl too and I never felt that melee was too hard because it was "fast".
Brawl wasn’t made in seven years, it was made in about two. Sakurai worked on other games in between Melee and Brawl, and Brawl began development sometime in late 2005. Melee was made in just over a year.
You do know that Sakurai has announced new information about Smash Brothers every day in his Miiverse posts, right? It isn't just random screenshots, it's information too. Every weekday. Just like the Dojo.
I always felt like which one is better depends on which style you prefer: Quality (Melee) or Quantity (Brawl). Brawl has more characters and content with a better story mode but Melee has faster gameplay and advanced techniques and more complex combos.
William White Ok listen melee is just technical and brawl is more simple. if ashby thinks brawl is fun then leave it alone because obviously your one of those die hard melee fans.
Glad there is someone who doesn't just flat out hate Brawl for nit picky reasons.I never understood this thinking. I understand preferring Melee to Brawl as you mentioned, but I don't get the whole let's beat down on Brawl attitude.
Melee is a competitive multiplayer game that people take seriously. Brawl was designed to fit a broader audience and striped alot of game mechanics that made it competitive like wavedashing, fast falling. Replaced with triping and "floaty". Every competitive multiplayer game player bases will do this.
Melee used to be my favorite game to play, but let's be honest. Brawl is a huge improvement over Melee. Though I love playing Melee for nostalgic purposes, it had its shortcomings. Brawl seemed to improve upon those shortcomings.
Benjamin Reid cool 2 things happened (that i know of on my birthday besides my birthday) 1. The day I was born Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero won the WWE tag titles February 20th 2005 2. Sonic and the Secret Rings (the 3rd sonic game i played) released on my 2nd birthday February 20th 2007.
I am a captain falcon main, and it's pretty damn useful to have a clone. If I'm in a tournament and the other person wins the coin toss, and they also happen to main captain falcon, then I can get gannondorf and play normally, without being crippled by being matched with another c. Falcon main.
Very few things live up to the excitement and mind boggling of Super Smash Dojo as a kid, I thought for so long that it couldn't possibly be real, it was just too wonderful!
Brawl definitely doesn't deserve all the hate it gets from hardcore Melee fans. Yeah, it's somewhat slower and less competitive, but come ON, guys. Brawl IS able to stand on its own two feet! Now to be fair, I didn't get to play Melee, but that doesn't mean Melee is way better than Brawl or the N64 original.
I thank you for sharing the same opinion as me between Melee and Brawl. Melee is better, Brawl has annoying things, but Brawl is still a good game and I love it for being more accessible to my friends. I hate that Pichu was such a lame character in Melee because I really enjoy it in the Pokemon games (although I'm biased towards cuteness - thats why I like Kirby.) Also haha yay for continuing the "putting the game in the wrong way" derpiness. Even though you aren't the *first* to do it, it still feels funny and fairly original when you do. Great video as always, thanks for the free entertainment. Is there a donation page/paypal address for if I ever want to toss a few bucks your way in support? You can email that information to me at *satoshiji(at)gmail(dot)com* if you don't want to publicly share it.
Sato I really appreciate the offer! I would feel really weird accepting it though lol. I'm just doing this because I enjoy spreading out my dumb opinions on video games.
I feel like I am the only one that hates melee, it's to fast and I love everything about brawl and tripping people go insane and call it a problem and treat it like it happens every minute. It happens very rarely. I hate project m to. Don't think I never played melee or project m I have but I just hate them.
+blox man I'm not sure if you were saying you never played melee/project m or not. If you are saying you've never played them, then you dont have any rights at all to say that you hate either. You may not be inclined to play them over Brawl, but that's very different from hating the game. I myself have never played Brawl. I will someday but i really enjoy project m. I didn't own Melee as a kid, but I played it at friend's houses ad loved it and i do play project m. Then again I an a competitive type of person, and these games are more competitive. I also like sm4sh and could get competitive with it, but the skill ceiling with melee and project m is just what i prefer overall
Dear god people please don't let this guy represent the Brawl fanbase. First of all, we don't hate Melee or Project M. Second of all we know basic grammer, Third of all...seriously...if you think this kid represents everyone in the brawl fanbase...you have some problems of your own to deal with honestly.
I swear is the whole internet nostalgically biased? I played melee and I don't see anything in it, brawl just seems to be melee with more features... People often complain about tripping but in the 7 years I've played it it has never been a major problem, just a nitpick... I also don't see a difference in combat and really all I think I was missing out on before I played melee was Mewtwo... I just wish people would stop acting like brawl is a bad game... I was pleasantly suprised you didn't call it bad here... So far on the internet The only thing people have done is praise melee and then say brawl was nowhere near as good and give tripping as the only reason and then go on about how "AMAZING" melee was... Overall, I just see it as nostalgia-blind melee lovers ripping on brawl because it has tripping... brawl is always either ignored or insulted and I find that atrocious! Melee isn't bad but brawl is just a bit better and note how I'm not saying WAY better like a lot of youtubers talking about melee do... I'm glad you at least gave a reason beyond tripping but I still don't see this whole idea that melee had better combat...
i know plenty about melee, mister ´´i made conclusions without informtion´´ fox in melee is way to fast and strong, and he can also jump really high making him one of the best and most broken characters in the game
+Nicolas Cortés maybe at low level he is op but he gets exploited a lot at high level due to him being extremely easy to combo and somewhat easy to gimp. He also is extremely light. There's a reason why players such as hbox can place very high in tournaments using characters that lose the fox matchup. He is most certainly not broken. For a while he wasn't even considered the best character.
Aside from being a little bit too harsh on Melee's Adventure Mode and other game modes, I thought you did a great job outlining these two Smash games. Both of them are enjoyable, but I can understand your personal preference for Melee. P.S. God...I miss Mewtwo. :'(
Honestly, I've never met someone who didn't like Subspace Emissary.
The music was the best part of brawl in my opinion
CyrilCommando
Agreed
Agreed
I actually played through the story recently with my brother on intense difficulty. It was a nice way to kill the afternoon and i forgot how short it really is
I HATE Subspace.
I actually really liked Brawl's adventure mode
Yeah Subspace is the best part of vanilla Brawl.
It's one of my favorite things in anything ever...
Its the only thing it beats melee at
Brawl batter but ima play with it until is Black Friday comes in November
Yeah me too and it’s not even that long that’s if you try to do the entire game in one sitting but who the heck would ever do that
"Pit, I am so sorry you once looked like that." Laughed so hard.
:D XD
Brawl, by far, has the best theme.
Weston Gibson
Would you like to know my favorite albums of all time?
How is this bait, yall are kinda looking for something thats not there since you dont agree with his opinion. Maybe like, dont b8 yourself?
I'd agree. Brawl does have the best opening theme
Nuziburt Brawl Does have the best theme by far
Melee and it's theme are total overrated games
Not anymore, lol
Am I the only one who likes subspace? It feels like a smash + kirby hybrid and I love it!
+ProtoKnight Extremely fun with a friend. Alone it's a disgrace. (My opinion, doe)
Why did subspace emissary not exist
in smash 4? IT BETTER BE IN SMASH 5 FOR THE SWITCH!!!!!!!!
Introspective likes it
Then world of light happened.
I feel weird for liking the Subspace Emissary mode in Brawl. It was the most fun I had in a Smash game because my sisters don't like me kicking their asses in multiplayer all the time.
It's fine, the Subspace Emissary was amazing
Lol
In my opinion
Melee: Great if you have other people who are about at your skill level (not just talking about your skill level) to play with for some fast pace fighting game experience.
Brawl: Much better if you take it as much more of a party sandbox title then a traditional fighter for a fun time with everyone, regardless what skill level they are in comparison
Something I've never quite understood when others go over Brawl are some of the features it had and the improvements made to Smash Bros more 'for fun' aspects.
TheLeetCasualGamer Actually, I'd say you made some pretty logical points. I agree with most of them.
God damn it, give this guy a medal!
Everything changed when the ultimate attacked... and confused everyone further on which was better
I always liked Brawl way more than Melee. Partly because how many more hours I've spent in Melee, ultimately making it boring for me.
Yea
All smash games get a 10/10 because they have the best multi player fun
Aleksa Bogdanović AYE YOU GOOD YO
Aleksa Bogdanović I like pretty much all of the Smash bros games. My favorite is probably a tie between Smash bros Melee and Smash bros 4.
Spidertendo 64 I wouldn't really say there's a best smash game, it just depends on your personal preference in gameplay.
I prefer Melee but I really can't stand all of those people who just tell you screw every other Smash game, only play Melee. I know Melee is more competitive but it's just too overrated with the community now.
It is the most technical fighting game of all time. I wouldn't call that overrated
I totally agree. SSB64 and Brawl are still very solid games.
yeah, im a huge melee fan who does play the game very competitively, but there are some really dumb fans, i appreciate all games for CERTAIN reasons.
Ddiaboloer ...Guilty Gear and KoF XIII.
Dude, Melee's technical, but don't say things that are clearly biased as heck.
Also both sides of the fanbases are annoying to be honest.

i like it how you fight glover at the end of classic mode
***** but better gameplay?
Swift_Heracross Aside from tripping and new items, gameplay didn't seem to change much for me. I was never one of the ones that got super invested in the deep mechanics of Smash, so the games seemed the same gameplay-wise if you turned all items off.

Better Final Smashes in 4? Some of them are copied and Lucarios is useless after a certain percentage
Kids who never grew up playing melee and played brawl first
Because the generation that grew up with brawl are getting older and since all they see are videos talking about how "toxic" melee fans and how "broken" the game is they assume they know everything about a community and game they arent a part of.
The only problem with brawl is tripping and the slow pace of the game, but it's still amazing and everyone should play it! I love the game and i think people are a bit harsh on it.
Coming from a melee fan
I am I brawl fan and I agree with you.
The random tripping was a bad idea. And the speed is also a problem.
A bit harsh is a MASSIVE understatement

Not really, but you can tell who wants to stir the pot, based on their comments.
Melee was the first smash game I've ever played.

I don't think the world was ready for Mario's realistic overalls......
Nintendo releases Super Mario odyssey 9 years later with Mario in his underpants and the whole world was changed that day
Brawl is supposed to appear to casuals, like Sakurai intended....

Brawl is a better game
Only reason people think melee is better
Because you can spam moves and not have to learn combos
@@BurningRubber454 If you think that's the only reason why people like melee then you need some serious education.
I will say though that on a semi competitive level PM probably provides more to the players but at the top level Melee is actually superior
projectmgame.com/en/news/dev-blogpost-7-trimming-the-fat Even the PM team recognises the many problems the mod has at the moment
"In general, we are aiming to increase the depth of the game, while retaining the accessibility that the Smash Bros. series is well regarded for.
I remember sonic being announced, it was on my birthday. Best birthday ever.
There is no "better" or "worse" between these two games, in my opinion they vary in so many aspects that the word "different" is more suitable
Dominik Mengel
yeah it's all just a subject of opinion neither of these games are better than the other statistically personally i enjoy Brawl more but you will never hear me say Brawl is better than Melee even though i have only played Melee once in my entire life.
I like Melee over Brawl because I like the feel of the gameplay more and I enjoy all of the advanced techniques. That's it. IMO Brawl is better than Melee at everything EXCEPT the gameplay. This is coming from someone who GREW UP with Brawl and the Wii.
And what is a game without good gameplay
CEtro569 E.T.
BizerkPixel I prefer a few other aspects of melee too such as it's stages, music, and overall impact on series.
BizerkPixel same
“Advanced Techniques”
Spamming broke moves over and over again
This is more detailed in SMB4, but Falco is actually saying, "Hands off my prey." It does sound like Hands of my bread in Brawl, tho. And I admit, I thought thats what he said before 4 came out.

I laughed my ass of when he put in Brawl.
I do the same when I'm bed with a lady.
What are you gonna tell me, don't dash as much?
a melee video with no mention of the competitive scene, amazing
I love Melee but Brawl is my favorite video game.
Have you ever tried PM? It's brawl but with more stages and characters.
+Lrod Shrek Don't forget a rehashed Melee as well.
Come at me, Melee fanboys... the Flame Shield is up.
i know exactly what your talking about

"Alright just talk about the modes! All this talk about pichu is giving me a goddamn migraine!" 😂😂😂😂
this stupid quote is giving me a migraine
In my opinion, though, Melee's Target Match was the best thing in the whole game.

JOINS SMASH! (he doesn't though)
I... I actually liked Brawl....
Then again, my main was Lucario so maybe I was a angsty anime kid back then.
Main? What kind of slang is that? Something multiplayer related I assume. I only play solo because fck other people.
And then Ultimate brought Pichu back but this time it's dangerous to underestimate him.
Personally I think Brawl is better than Melee.
SonicZBlade235 melee is better than brawl
William White No Brawl is better
William White Melee doesn't have Sonic in it. Therefore Brawl is the more superior game
DontDropSoap Tails should be in the next smash brothers game as well as Sonic and make super Sonic just as strong as he was in brawl
Brawl has unbalanced fighters. Metta Knight is overpowered.
Therefore Melee is far better.
I like how he puts it in wrong every time but it still worked.

In Brawl's defense, there is an unused sound file of the announcer saying "Super Smash Bros Brawl!"
Thats awesome! Are there any videos of this sound on youtube?
I have searched with no luck, but it is stated on fandom.
@@masterblaster8354 damn, oh well
I loved brawl's story mode. Everyone had their own thing going on and it always had me invested.
call me an idiot, But i actually like 75m, Hanenbow and the scrolling stages
i think super smash bros brawl is a great game. the only problem i have with it is the tripping and the speed of the game which feels like your on the moon. if they got rid of those 2 mechanics i think that the game would be more enjoyable.
the weirdest thing about those hamtaro games is that they were actually good
clearly made for little kids, obviously, but still entertaining
If you played Melee at least once you would understand why Brawl is such a disappointment. I could list every reason for you if you are interested
WreckitFinntheSonic
It's more rewarding to play. Basically Brawls design if you want to win then CAMP and play defensively. Melee isn't just fast but it is the most aggressive smash game
WreckitFinntheSonic
hey,we both had something in common,I played the the 64 one (my 2nd favorite n64 game, next to mario 64.) and then I had a wii in 2010,and a year later I got brawl, and never played melee (didn't have a game cube until after brawl, and even then I didn't have melee,I had super mario sunshine, but not melee. I first play melee on the dolphin.),and loved it. (weird, but I prefer the 64 over brawl, but that's not a bad thing.)
Ddiaboloer
I played melee, and it's one of those games where I hate it,but people like it.
Cole Lapp You obviously like 64 because it feels better to play. It actually has combos for 1. Melee takes a little while to get used too. I suggest you give it a shot later
Fun fact: Sonic's reveal in Smash was on my 7th Birthday :^)

Melee was part of my life. Now Super Smash Bros Ultimate is near equal to Melee. (Fight me!)
no items, pichu only, sudden death, final destination.

I love Brawl! I'm getting pretty good at it and my best character's Sonic. Once I get the Smash Ball I wreck havoc but it's so hard to hit them because I can't control it that well XD
Same here
People see Brawl's floaty physics as a detriment, while I see it as a blessing in disguise.
I feel sorry for you. You had to review the worst Smash Brothers game ever.
And Brawl, too.

To be completely honest, I like brawl better but melee is fun
ashby987 Same, brawl's roster is just one reason it's better and it's a lot more varied
Ryan Bruce well not even that I just had a lot more fun with it and I didn't like melees controls, but like I said it's still fun
ashby987 brawl is OK but it ain't fun melee is so much better
William White my game stopped working me and my brothers played it so much
William White Ok listen melee is just technical and brawl is more simple. if ashby thinks brawl is fun then leave it alone because obviously your one of those die hard melee fans.
I love Subspace Emissary. One of my favorite things about Brawl.
Every competitive multiplayer game player bases will do this.
melee can still easily fit as a party game. i remember 8 year old me playing with my 8 year old friend
Melee used to be my favorite game to play, but let's be honest. Brawl is a huge improvement over Melee. Though I love playing Melee for nostalgic purposes, it had its shortcomings. Brawl seemed to improve upon those shortcomings.
How is brawl an improvement? There are no combos, the gameplay is slow, the characters are very floaty, and it is just boring :|
But melee had a WAAYYYY bigger improvement on smash 64.

I hate that Pichu was such a lame character in Melee because I really enjoy it in the Pokemon games (although I'm biased towards cuteness - thats why I like Kirby.)
Also haha yay for continuing the "putting the game in the wrong way" derpiness. Even though you aren't the *first* to do it, it still feels funny and fairly original when you do.

0:44 the reason of melee's epic intro...
+fakename712 I have played melee and project m.
i hate melee too
Dear god people please don't let this guy represent the Brawl fanbase. First of all, we don't hate Melee or Project M. Second of all we know basic grammer, Third of all...seriously...if you think this kid represents everyone in the brawl fanbase...you have some problems of your own to deal with honestly.
why the hell do you think falco says hands off my bread instaead of prey
Brawl was horribly unbalanced and slow. Not to mention all the advanced tech that was removed making the game horrible competitively
+Lrod Shrek unbalanced?* cough* Fox in melee *cough* most unbalance shit ever *cough*! i need a honey candy...
+Nicolas Cortés You seem pretty ignorant and I think you should know more about Melee before you start trash talking it.
i know plenty about melee, mister ´´i made conclusions without informtion´´ fox in melee is way to fast and strong, and he can also jump really high making him one of the best and most broken characters in the game
Ant’s older videos remind me a lot of somecallmejohnny.
Conclussion... go and get project m, cause you will get subspace emissary with melee fast fameplay, and project m is the best smash game
Hell yeah bro!
The music to the resting area in All-Star is a remix of stage 3 from Kirby's Dream Land, much earlier than Superstar.
Aside from being a little bit too harsh on Melee's Adventure Mode and other game modes, I thought you did a great job outlining these two Smash games. Both of them are enjoyable, but I can understand your personal preference for Melee.
P.S. God...I miss Mewtwo. :'(
Smash bros 4 DLC on spring of 2015 to the rescue!
I think you know he’s back
AntDude, my question is, why are you complaining about Brawls checklist? It's like Airrides on but bigger. Don't you love Airride?
