- Today, I compare the 2021 Ford F-150 Platinum (701A) to the Limited (900A) Both of these trucks are extremely luxurious, and you can't go wrong. Is the Limited worth the upgrade though?

I have the Platinum with Powerboost, 7200 watt genset, in antimatter blue. I like my interior more than the quilted limited in that baby blue leather. Couldn't be happier. Its a fantastic truck that gets 23mpg.

Very nice comparison review. I have almost the exact Platinum you show other than color, and mine has the 5.0L. The one thing you didn't mention but is optioned in mine is the massaging front seats. I assume it's standard on the Limited but it's actually useful, and not at all the gimmick I thought it would be. Also surprised that the Limited didn't come standard with the fold out center console worksurface. Mine doesn't have that either.
I have the platinum with the 5.0 v8 as well. optioned out with everything, even has the 3.73 gears and the Black Appearance package (totally worth it).

I would probably go Platinum, but I have a 2018 King Ranch and it is pretty optioned up close to the Platinum price. I like the brown leather and real wood accents in the KR.....a little classier in my opinion.
I have the platinum powerboost.
It came with everything nothing was missed. Temp controlled seating and steering wheel. Massaging seats. Self drive assist. Spray on bed liner with tie down brackets. Its fully loaded. It came with the king ranch interior with the platinum badge.
Dealer said it was one of a kind?

Some do come from the factory with a spray in liner. I bought a new one off the lot. -the fact in had one was a total bonus. I would not buy a limited even if $$$ was no issue. They only come with 22 in wheels/sunroof/& short box. I bought my 15 &19 lariats both crew cabs with 6.5 box & no sunroofs on purpose.
All this time I always thought the Platinum was ABOVE the Limited
For me I have to go platinum. As much as I love the interior of the limited, the limited is only avail with the 5’7” bed. That’s just stupid that the longer bed isn’t available on the limited. I’m coming from a 2014 Ram 1500 Limited with Crew cab and 6’4” bed. I know it doesn’t sound like a huge difference but it is. The shorter bed isn’t as useful and it also just doesn’t look good IMO with the larger cab. Platinum for me.
I got a 2022 Platinum. Another deciding factor not mentioned is towing. The Limited has the lowest payload of the F150 trucks. Tongue weight of a trailer is subtracted from the payload figure not the towing figure. I own a truck to pull my camper with a 1000# tongue weight. A Limited's payload max is about 1200# (found on the driver door (see max cargo sticker "no more than xxxx pounds") That would leave me 200# for my weight and anything in the bed or anything in the truck. The Platinum can be customized to remove items. The dual moonroof is almost 70# and they can leak. Light blue interior is another unusual specialty of the Limited that I would choose the Black and Carmel. The Limited's diamond quilting, suede-like headliner, lighted door thresholds and badging are nice but all said and done are a $3000 difference to an equally optioned Platinum. For 2023, Ford removed the adaptive steering option from all but the Limited adding an additional $1000 difference to the two.
I have a 2021 F150 Lariat 502A with the 360 camera , panorama moon roof , adaptive cruise , lane keeping , cornering lamps ,power tailgate , twenty inch tires and pre collision and evasive steering and more ... dont need the Platinum or Limited
Thanks! I had the choice between the two and I got the Platinum. I love the leather on the Limited but the Platinum had all the options on it that were not on the Limited, such as Bed scale and smart hitch. Both these are great trucks and I’m glad I got the Platinum with the options I wanted. I came from a 2019 Ford Flex Limited with the 3.5 twin turbo and I loved it too! The F-150 game me more towing ability.
I have the 2021 Limited and it has the FX4 so that needs to be known. Also has the scale hitch. The only thing it lacks is the lay flat seats. But the seats with contour that can be adjusted with 3 parts in and out- greatly maximizes the massaging feature. There is no comparison in the seats for comfort. If that’s not enough- imagine getting a great massage with the music in your headrest. The Limited is worth every penny to me.
Bed scale and smart hitch are standard equipment on the Limited.

Its not bad at all. but you do have to keep your hands on the steering wheel to keep it engaged. i have the platinum with all upgrades as well, with even the black appearance package.
I'd get a platinum just to avoid that blue

I'm not a fan of all the badging of the Platinum and Limited (and King Ranch). I went with a Lariat PowerBoost optioned out so that it is pretty close to the Platinum you showed here (MSRP is $73K and change). Also, I tow a 6900 lb travel trailer so I need to be aware of the available payload and the Limited, with all the options in PowerBoost configuration, is really Limited when it comes to payload.
You picked the perfect truck for your use case!

Good review. Very useful comparison. I'll likely go Platinum and then fully load it up. I do have three questions I hope you can answer: First, do you know, in that deep front center console will a laptop fit inside when it is closed, and up to what size laptop? I prefer larger laptops like 16" or 17", so hopefully it will hold more than just the 13", but this issue would not keep me from getting the truck. Love that fold out front center console flat work surface. Second, do you know, can you get the Platinum with side rails along the outer edge of the cab's roof so that cross bars can be put up there without having to interfere with the door closing, and things like ski racks can be attached to those cross bars? I greatly prefer racks above the cab than over the bed. And third, do you know, would I be able to get the black exterior but have all that chrome blacked out, or at least the chrome/silver panel across the tailgate?
Wish I could get interior all black leather but without those thin brownish stripes in the center of the seats. Wish there was a luxury version of the Platinum that made all the doors and front dash fully real leather. I assume I can option some form of cover for the bed in back, something hard but either foldable or roll up, since those are more versatile than the solid hard bed tops that just tilt up. I was going to get the new Gen 3 Raptor, what a beaut this is, and 6" wider too, but at 59 I'm not the crazy offroader of my youth anymore, just want to get anywhere, anytime in any kind of weather, especially snowstorms, and I do love the optional massaging and fully reclining front seats that can be had with the Platinum. Just call me an old gheezer, and yes, an old ski bum, Powder Hound truth be told. I'd go the Limited route but for two issues; I want black and single tone interior, not that blue and two tone, and I want the thicker tires of the Platinum, at least the 20's if not 18's, no interest in 22"s on a pickup. I'd also get the larger 6'2" (or 6'5") bed, but only the 5.5 fits in my garage. Oh well. Will still work. And I think any ski's there won't be room for on the hoped for rack above the cab, will likely sit diagonally inside the bed. Ford seems to have outdone themselves once again.

1. I haven't tried putting a laptop in there so I wouldn't know.
2. I don't understand the question. All the roofs look the same on the F150s from what I could see, so if can put one on an XLT, you can probably put one on these.
3. Some people do that aftermarket. You can't get that blacked out from the factory on Platinum/Limited.
For your purposes, I'd suggest getting a Platinum and custom select the options you want since the Platinum is much more customizable. The limited doesn't have much for options, so at least with the Platinum you have a black interior, 20" wheels, and the 6 1/2' bed optional.

I think they’re better off leaving it as an F-150. They actually did the opposite. They got rid of the Lincoln Mark LT and made an F-150 Platinum back in 2010

Wow, my 21' Lariat PowerBoost 502A package has a much better looking black interior than both of these. I also have the panoramic sunroof AND I don't have that ugly silver 'thing' on the back tailgate. For the cost of these trucks, these BOTH should have all the options.

And the 2023 doesn't have all the options a 2021 has. The 2021 actually has more options, but the 2023 is a lot higher. Less truck and cost more. Ford blames it on the chip shortage, but Ford had better fix there chip shortage and put all the options back on the new ones or their gonna loss a lot of their loyal customers, because it doesn't seem an issue with the other brands.
To me it matters if I’m gonna keep the truck for 20-30 years…how much is all of that gonna last. Cause I see rich people get a brand new one every one or two years

Blows my mind why someone would choose a limited over a raptor or even a higher end diesel f250 for the same price.
It’s because that might be what they want. Not everyone wants or needs a raptor or f250.
I don't like the build of the raptor and much prefer the handling of a 150 vs 250/350+
I just ordered a loaded up Limited. Wanted the 6.5 foot bed and it tows 12,300 pounds with the towing package. I love the Raptor, but i don't think i can get that bed length and towing capacity considerably lower.

Suede/Alcantara in cars is so dumb. Especially in trucks that are going to get dirty. Plus they just look messy even when they're clean.
I like suede when it’s on a part that you don’t touch. So if it’s on the headliner, I’m cool with it. I don’t like when it’s on seats or steering wheels though.

If I was to ever buy this truck I will get rid of my one-bedroom apartment and live in this truck because I know this truck is at least elite $90,000... I know the payments are Monday's Solis $2,000 and the full coverage insurance is sky-high probably $1,000 a month for insurance and $80 to fill up for gas... so no need to waste my time on an apartment 🙆🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️

I like the limited... But I don't like that you have to have blue interior. Also I don't like you can't get the Five liter. Maybe that's why they call it the limited. Because you're very limited. For the price I would like to choose.
