    This is such a preposterously complex scheme, but it looks really nice and you did a good job bringing it to life. If I ever had a small-scale Tyranid project, I'd probably choose this. But it's just too much for me when considering the quantity of gaunts you need for a full-size 40k game.

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The scheme's complexity is definitely real, and I think it's likely the reason we never saw a studio army painted like the cover art. That being said I think we simplified it into something a little more manageable! Thanks for watching!

    Definitely individuality, at least with Tyranids and Orks since they’re very organic…not so much with Space Marines, since they’re wearing armor, maybe just some variations on weathering and damage for them.

    Any chance you could do a leviathan version? StrikingScorpion82 has a few Leviathan scheme tutorials up but he finishes after the contrast is applied and I am finding it a bit lacking. I agree with you and think the highlights on the chitin are a primary feature of Tyranid schemes. I have some old termagants that I am testing out color schemes on before I commit on the larger models. Thanks for the tutorials!

    • @MattsHobbyHour

      Thanks! I do have Leviathan in the queue, I've just been pushing it back because there seems to be so much Leviathan out there already. I always liked doing schemes that are less popular. But we've gotten a few requests for Leviathan by now so I better get working on it! Thanks for watching!

    individuality to me depends on the army! tyranids for example can have very naturalistic variation. on the other hand uniformity is good for well, uniforms! but i can imagine imperial guard having more personalization within than tau would, for example 🙃

    Quick question, I love this color scheme and I'm about to paint my entire army this style including Screamer Killer, Winged Hive Tyrant, Swarmlord and many more, but I do not have an airbrush. You mentioned that if we don't have the primer you used to prime the model white and airbrush dawnstone. Would just priming it with dawnstone with a regular brush work or do you have another suggestion?
    MIght be to big of an ask, but have you considered also doing some of the bigger Tyranids like the ones I mentioned above in this color scheme? I plan to wing it and just follow the same principles you used here for the highlights and color parts and just upscale and adjust, but it would be good to see your take on the rest of Tyranids.

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you could brush on the Dawnstone over white primer. You could also prime with Mechanicus Grey instead, and then drybrush Dawnstone over the top. That would look similar. But maybe a little darker in the end. I would encourage you to do a test model to make sure you like the results first. Feel free to join our discord and share your progress! I'd love to see your army.
      I don't have any plans to revisit this scheme in the immediate future but things can always change! Thanks for watching!

    Hi Matt! great video as ever!
    I have a question for you about a project im working on, and I'd love some experienced advice. Currently, im about to start painting Mezgike's dredge marines. If you dont know them, they're deep sea diving Deathguard proxies. How would you get a good old timey diver finish on them? The obvious answer is brass, rust, and virdigris, but im worried, given they're almost entirely armor, it might be overwhelming the detail of the models. Any thoughts or ideas on how to not do so? It'd be much appreciated!

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      that sounds like a really cool concept! I think you're right to be concerned with overwhelming the detail on the models. I would think about another color to include on the armor, to break up the brass a bit. I think something very dark and slightly muted would break up the brass and avoid clashing with it; black, or a very dark green/blue would be my suggestions. I'd check out my Verminlord video for a weathered brass recipe; I think that would fit the theme. Good luck!
