I expected to hate this approach, but...

Painting some of the Tyranids from the Leviathan in some of the proposed 10th Edition color schemes, I was suprised how easy some of these were, but not only that - they ended up looking really good too! I think this approach can be adapted to any of the hivefleets you want to paint, so it was really fun to try this and experiment!

I own 4 or 5 of their T-Shirts and a Hoodie - they're very nicely made
The third scheme is really nice but much harder and more effort for an army. It’s tough because part of why I want to do nids is to have something I can paint lots of quickly
Yeah, I really like the 3rd scheme but never going to go to that effort for even a whole squad of Termies let alone a whole army. Perhaps if the arm transitions could be laid down with an airbrush rather than contrast paints? Dunno.
That kraken scheme is so modern yet nostalgic
I pre-ordered Leviathan and this is my first time playing Warhammer 40k. I can't wait. This video is so motivating! Can't wait to paint them!
Me too, lol. Well just getting into 40k, didn't buy leviathan yet, but i want to because im slowly falling in love with nids, lol. My main army will be Dark Angels, cause i love them. I mean, best terminators, 3 color schemes for one army, Azrael attached to a squad of hellblasters is gross, oh and the Lion is an absolute unit. I want nids as my seconed army, but having trouble deciding between hive fleets Kraken and Tiamet for the paint scheme.
Wow those spots on the second one really Amped up the Tyranid! It looked like it could exist in the real world
Check out coconut crab paint schemes to see lots with this effect.
I am a big fan of the first color scheme even if is typical GW, probably because I love the color purple lol. I think combining the different paint schemes can be interesting too with darker purple or pink skin texture!
Love the paints jobs and can't wait to see what you do with the other Tyranid models you have!
Your approach to these schemes are fantastic. I'm really tempted to use your method for Hivefleet Kraken as the steps are relatively simple but the results are very satisfying. Very nostalgic as someone who played when their first codex was released.
Have to admit, the "unknown" fleet actually has maybe the most organic and natural looking scheme. Yours in particular came our really well, while still staying very achievable for both beginners and long-time painters.
Can't wait to see your own schemes ! As always sublime work. It gave me a lot of ideas on how to change my paint routine for file & rank minis.
My man, you did what I thought was impossible.
You made me like Hive fleet Kraken.
Hats off to you.
I want to work of Hive fleet Hydra.
Love your Leviathan paint scheme, absolutely gorgeous! I look forward to following your painting instructions when I get my hands on the new Nids box! Cheers!
I really like the mottled effect you added to the second one. I'm going to have to try that soon.
Love watching your process Trov, and as always the results are wonderful.
The Kraken here has got to be my favorite, the way you draw the reds back out of the black templar and also contrast with that ghostly blue. The dark spots on the limbs are killer too!
Love the second paint scheme , overall awesome video can see dead white over ivory in places , love the thinning of the contrast.
Having picked up the Leviathan box I'm 100% going to try your recipe and methods to paint them up in the Leviathan style. Only ever painted Blood Angels before so looking forward to getting out of my comfort zone (not that I'm any good) with these. Love your work buddy.
This is by far the best tyranid painting video I have seen on the Tube. Inspiring. I plan to use third colour scheme you used on the bigger models in the box.
This is absolutely fantastic, can't wait to try these when I get my box!
Thanks for the great videos!
Wow , some amazing results !
I’m trying this approach for hive fleet leviathan, and oh my god it’s good!! Thank you so much! Subscribed to your Patreon, 100% worth it
Makes it look so easy, absolutely magical
the 2 & 3 looks for me really good . I'll try them soon as possible . Thks
That Leviathan scheme is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Thanks Trovarian 👍🏻
Yes! I like those crazy colors on Tyranids! Keep them coming :)
Fantastic, especially that third colour scheme. Looks incredible.
That Hive Fleet Unknown is awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Wow, this looks great while also looking like it saves a lot of time. I'll definitely adopt this method when painting mine. I'm glad the design team is making models that look great but also have a enough detail to soak up contrast type paints.
Gorgeous work love the purple on the carapace 😘 chef kiss
i want to thank you very much, i have been painting from the 80s but 2 years ago lost sight in 1 eye which has really effected my painting and with the Nids i was honestly very scared but your guide has shown me some very simple and i hope easy for me ways to get back into the hobby i love very much , thank you
The first one, albeit a classical, is really cool looking. It's bright, yet organic. Contrast from far away, yet very good looking close up.
Super dope. Thank you for your efforts in sharing the process. Really interesting stuff.
This makes me very excited even more about 10th, I've recently tried one of your tips of mixing contrast with shades and it was so much fun it helped me add just the right amount of shading without hiding the colors infact it helped boost them a little more. Watching this I can see some techniques I want to try not just with Tyranids but with other minis too
I can't wait to your next video
which video is this, please?
@@awoken8infinite He mentions it in his recent Dark Angels video, but he does mention it in his grimdark series as well I believe
Those paint schemes look super awesome! I was already torn between painting Leviathan or Kraken... this doesn´t make it easier to chose but it gives me so many new ideas! Looking forward to more Tyranid content. 😃
Like the last schema the most. You did an excellent job on all of 3
Loved this! Can't wait to see the painting for tiamat!
Would love to see you paint the other schemes :)
This video style is awesome dude, please keep it up! I really enjoyed this
Would love to see you do a tyranid like the cover art for the 3rd edition codex. I have so much nostalgia for that book, and would love to see you bring the art to life.
Very cool, love seeing the experimentation.
Lol makes me want to paint mids now. So many minis to paint so little time. Always inspiring, they look so good!!!
This is a very good video. Well done. More of this please with other Tyranid models.
This was fire,my dude! I really liked the way you broke down those GW schemes here and made it approachable for everyone.
To be fair I am more fired up for the next Nids as I feel like you shine brighter the less boundaries you have follow. You are really creative and I can't wait for that art approach with the 🤯 effect
I've seen some really nice Tyranid paint schemes where they applied a gloss varnish to the carapace claws and hoofs but left the fleshy parts matt or ultra matt.
These look really great.
I'm not sure how big of a fan I am of contrast paints, they have their ups and downs.
But it's all the other details, the highlights, and color gradients that really make the paint job.
They Really look good! Amazing work as always
Beautiful work!
I love the leviathan scheme so much
Great video, looking forward to see more Nids!
Sensational. Will use the Leviathan scheme for sure!
Kraken is really the most impactful. Very good video!
Amazing work 😍
The second one is amazing.
Finally a Leviathan tutorial I like.
Thanks!
cant wait to see your schemes for these nids!
My buddy would agree with you on the bright red claws on leviathan. He instead did them in a dark red/ dryed blood color.
Ill definitely give this a try. Thanks for sharing!
These are all amazing, I want to try all of them
These are really cool paint jobs and a great "how to" guide.
i like the statement "Similar to how drybrushed miniatures always will look drybrushed, it's the same with contrast" cause that is my thing why i don't want to overuse contrast or drybrushing, rather than as targeted tools
mixing of techniques is the way to go. by mixing techniques you trick the eye into thinking you are looking at a 300 hour show piece. also when it comes to dry brushing, a lot of the time people are just bad at it. it's one of those techniques that gets a bad rap, but this is why. chalky etc. when done well it can look amazing.
Trov is right though. You can't just paint one tech, you have to mix them up. Using dry brushing, contrast and then traditional edge highlighting for example can look amazing (ofc you still have to do each step well, but mixing the tech is a great start)
Yes it’s really obvious I can’t just use contrast and dry brush.
I love watching you push the washes and pigments
I love the little spot touches really gives it a more organic life form feel to it and less regimented like you said!!
There all fantastic colour schemes, but id say 2 and 3 are the better ones but i cant decided which of the two is best!!!
I’m definitely steeling your spots idea!! 🙄🙄😂😂😂
These look so good 🤘❤
I actually originally was not a fan of the new way GW had painted Leviathan, but seeing the way you did it...I'm reconsidering all of my painting for the future haha
Awesome video and paint schemes. love this vid
I feel like contrast paints along with some really striking lines on key edges might be a good way to get a good watercolor effect.
Kinda funny that you posted this the same day GW did a community post about how they did the new Tyranid model paint schemes, and also gave names to those unknown Hive Fleets. The unknown one here is apparently Hive Fleet Typhon
They look awesome. I cant wait to get a leviathan box 😮
These are awesome. I am very intrigued by Tiamet and was hoping you'd do a tutorial on them! Maybe a second video to come? 😂
Great video, super handy, i'm gonna try the kraken paint scheme i think
really nice ideas for them, my fevorites were the last two so i will keep that in mind if i ever do any zerg..oups i meant tyranids.
Oups you mean xenomorph 😇
Great frickin vid dood. Remembered to turn on notifications. V excited to do some organic experimenting on my nids box too 🎉
It's such a joy to see these schemes coming together!
Amazing content as always! 😊👍🏽
Wow. They look awesome
When I seen that new nid color scheme I really liked it can’t wait to see what the lore for them is
That second one is b-e-a-uuuutiful 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think all these schemes look amazing.
nice! i wish you posted a list of the colors you used though.
I think my favourite is hive fleet unknown, then kraken then leviathan. Pretty interesting, ive never really been interested in nids before.
2nd version is definitely my favourite! I noticed that you moved all the Gee dub paints to squeeze bottles, did you add any medium in the decanting process?
That second scheme was awesome
i love the “just a little dot in the corner” .. when they entire eye for me is just a little dot hahah 😅
These look awesome
Trov your brush point is always immaculate and im jealous lol
Hi! I absolutely loved this tutorial of yours, especially seeing you work on hive fleet unknown/Typhon. I just hve one question though - what purple did you use on the weapon? Ive watched the video (especially that part) a gew times now and havent quite worked it out. Thank you!
I might go with Kraken for mine, as I want to do a frozen alien base for them, and the colours might go well with the blue/white on the bases. I'm quite set on designing this style of base, so I must work backwards and pick a scheme to compliment the base style.
Those a just superb!! I'll keep that video in mind 'cause I have a huge box coming in eventually. My idea is a Bowser-like 'nid scheme but more darker. I don't want them to look to cartoonish.
You have inspired me to paint up the new Nids 🤘
That's really amazing! Thank you.
Damn, I just love watching you paint!
Please never start doing weird challenges etc like the other TH-camrs. I just want to experience beautiful painting!
That wet pink and dry white looks really cool in the opening 3:14
Really great content and inspiration again. THX
great video mate, I'm going to follow one of these schemes for sure, unless your next video changes my mind haha.
If reference to the base coat, I don't own a airbrush and would rather spray. What other colour would you recommend that is available in rattle can? Thanks in advance!
I was in the middle of watching this when my TH-cam flipped out and the video disappeared. I see it's back now.
yeah lol it was a weird moment
Same
Same lol
Same here lol
Same
Fantastic video?
What colour did you use for the gun on the blue Tyranid? Thanks
Nice work Trov 👍
I totally agree with you, GW scheme makes organic not organic. I like your take on these models!
how long did you take on each model? I loved this videos showing how you paint with contrasts
Dude thank you SO much for your videos. I watched a lot of them while I was working on other stuff and just passively learned through them. I recently bought an expensive space marine character model and tried NMM (which is kinda dumb as a beginner but hey, if you don’t try hard stuff you won’t improve) and my god I fucked it up. Thankfully I saw lots of your videos about pigment pushing, using contrasts and shades as glazes and was able to save my captain from the (mental) trash can. Love your vids and have learned so much already. 🤙
