This is easily one of the best tutorials I’ve ever watched! Finished model looks spectacular!!
Thank you so much!
love that carapace color even before the highlights nice job
thanks! It's a useful mix that's for sure. Great for other things too!
honestly, your tutorials just get better! keep it up!
Thank you! I'll keep em coming
Lovely work these big models are intimidating but tutorials like this make it seem more accessible
thanks! Glad it is helpful!
This is unreal! Thank you for doing this. Been struggling with a scheme for my army for a while. Going into each step in detail is super helpful!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad it's helpful. Good luck!
what an absolute beast
This looks insanely good. Definitely going to attempt this!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Love the little hightlights. Really makes things pop.
Thanks!
Fantastic job!!
Thank you!
I gave mine a special paint scheme. They have black skin and dark purple plates with golden spots. I call them "Hive Fleet Firefly."
Great idea! I bet it looks awesome
Pls post result
Absolutely beautiful! I've never played Warhammer 40k, only Total war Warhammer games, i'm about to buy my first figurine and i'm in love with Tyranids i don't know why.
Tyranids are a lot of fun to paint! Thanks for watching and good luck painting your first model!
Menacing... it's perfect. Love the eyeglow too, super easy to follow your guides.
Happy to hear that! Thank you for watching!
That's a badass paint scheme
thanks!
Gorgeous
Thanks!
Excellent video and paint job!
Thank you!
Wow! Awesome results!
thanks!
Hi, Matt. Just want to say that your videos have been an excellent help teaching me the techniques of mini-painting after a 10 year break, you're very good at breaking things down. My nids are pretty different to yours but the skin recipe you use is one of the best for a fast and effective pale skin
That's really awesome to hear, I'm glad they're helpful to you. Thanks for watching!
So glad i found this video i have an entire tyranids army i have to paint up and i really love the color scheme
I'm glad you found it too! Thanks for watching and good luck with your army!
Really great paint job
Thank you!
Love this tutorial. Cant wait to get... kraken...
ha! Good luck and thanks for watching!
Fantastic work!😮🙌🏽
Thanks!
Dang i love the paint scheme and thank you for the guide in painting it.
Thank you for watching!
Great video. Ive been struggling to find a hive fleet scheme for ages..this is the one, thanks matt 😀
Great to hear! Hope it works out well for you. Good luck!
Fabulous work. Inspiring.
Thank you!
Superb video again! I like how you explain exactly what it is and why it is you do it when painting and modelling. For example I had no Idea about sprue glue and that you could even fill those gaps in! I have an unpainted psychophage with a huge gap running up the middle which does not look good, now I can fix it! Thanks again matty!
Thank you! I'm glad to hear the videos resonate well with you. Good luck!
Wow.
Next up, the badass new Deathleaper please. 😁
Will have to add it to my wish list! Hopefully I'll get around to it soon.
Damn this looks good man! I'll try to do the same but with dark purple carapace. Nice job!
Thanks for watching! Good luck with your models, and feel free to share your results!
Man that is beautiful
Beautiful work!
Thanks!
Wow, very very nice!
thank you!
beautiful work.
Thanks!
Amazing !!!!!❤ hope you will make a tutorial for the leviathan color one day 😊
thanks for watching!
I’m a beginner painting my kraken fleet. And was doing base, shade then highlight. But honestly I think your method looks so much cooler. Definitely going to attempt this on one of my unpainted models. Keep up the amazing work!
thanks for watching and I hope this method works out for you! Good luck on your army!
Amazing
Thanks for watching!
I'm lovin' it, I hope mine will look as great as yours, or almost half great.
Thanks! Good luck with yours!
I just got started with painting 40k and miniatures in general. I have only painted 1 starter kit (3 termagants and 1 ripper swarm) and 1 box of homragaunts. I bought a lictor and a tyrannofex. Can't wait to get half as good as you. Amazing looking Norn Emissary!
Welcome to the hobby! Keep on painting and you'll get there before you know it. Thanks for watching and good luck!
I really enjoy your videos and they’ve been a huge help! A suggestion for a future video would be to see how to set up your palette for a painting session. Do you use a wet palette?
That's a great suggestion! I use a wet palette for most things. For contrast paint and washes I use a plastic palette that has wells in it. I'll try to include some more footage of my palettes in upcoming videos. Thanks!
Awesome work excellent explanation
Thanks for watching!
@@MattsHobbyHour posted months ago and I get a response in 5 mins
Outstanding sir
@@nolanbaker2360 thanks! Trying my best to run a tight ship here!
@@MattsHobbyHour 😂😂😂😂 awesome job
Nice job on a really big model. That is one heck of a centerpiece. Got to say though, I'm a little fatigued of Tyranids at this point. Hope to see some more model diversity in the future. Thanks Mr. Matt. Take care.
Thanks for watching! And I totally agree; i'm getting fatigued of painting them! I have some good stuff on the chopping block coming up next. A space marine, some seraphon, and I want to get my hands on some of those new trolls for aos whenever they come out...
Hey Matt, amazing work as always! Also noticed the video quality has improved significantly on this one, did you get that new camera? Cheers!
Thanks! No new camera yet. I think I just had some really bad settings at the start. Hopefully things will keep getting better!
why do i love your voice so much
I'm not sure but thank you!
i absolutely love this colour scheme, im going to have to use it for my fleet, highlighting scares me though
Thanks for watching! Give it a shot. You'll get the hang of it after a few models. Good luck!
Really cool. I'm a new Sub. I'm starting to paint my Leviathan box today. :)
Awesome, thanks for watching! Good luck with your army
Honestly love your tutorials, you make things feel not so daunting!
Quick question, if I wanted to make a carapace with a Black/Blue tint Contrast effect similar to your Kraken carapace, what paints would you use?
Thanks!
Thanks for watching! I think a mix of Ultramarines Blue and a small amount of Black Templar would make a good basecoat. Then highlight with the lighter blues of your choice, depending on what kind of shade you're after. Russ Grey highlights would give you a blue-grey effect. Or you could go a more vibrant route with something like Caledor Sky. Good luck! (I have an ice themed tyranid tutorial on the way; the scales are blue but much lighter than the Kraken example. Maybe it will be helpful to you. Stay tuned!)
@@MattsHobbyHour Thank you for getting back to me, I'm trying to reverse engineer a colour scheme I fell in love with a while ago. It's proving to be an expensive endeavour!
I think I started my own emissary around the time your last video came out, mines around half way done. Heres hoping it comes out close to as good.
Awesome! Hope it turns out great. Thanks for watching!
How many hours did it take you to finish painting your master peace? Great painting. Also what size of brush do you use to paint the thin line?
This took me about two days. I think I could have had it finished in one but filming adds a lot of time to the process. I used sizes 1 and 0 sable brushes for most of the detail work. Series 99 from Rosemary and Co. Thanks for watching!
hey, I am relatively new to these painting technics and I don't fully understand your mixing. For example, what 1:1 and 3:1 mean ? are we talking about the quantity of each colors ? and how do you mix them too ? you put a bit of water in your two colors and then mix them ? thank you !
Hello and thanks for watching! Those numbers mean the quantity/ratio of each color. So 3:1 means 3 parts of the first color and 1 part of the second color. You could measure it by brushfuls (or drops, if you transferred your paint to a dropper bottle). I mix the paints with an old brush in a plastic well palette. I don't add any water to the mix unless its specified in the video.
I have tried to include footage of mixing the colors in my newer videos. Give those a watch if you can and hopefully it will help out. Good luck!
Amazing job. How long did it take to paint ?
Thanks! I painted this over the course of 2 or 3 days. Filming the process adds a lot of time though, so it would have been faster otherwise.
ultramarines classic painting pleaseeeeee
One of my personal favorites!
Could i use grim black from army painter instead of black templar for the scales ?
I bet you could, but I'm not sure what ratio you would need. I would recommend mixing a small amount on your palette and test it out first. If it looks good, go for it! Good luck!
@@MattsHobbyHour ty
Hi matt, when I use the mix of fleshtears red and the vlack templar like you, it tends to just go one solod dark red colour, yours seems to have spots where the black shines through more. Is that nore to do with the crack and crevices of the model where the paint is pooling, is it a camera effect, or have I just got my mix wrong?
I did watch your reference video on the paint mixing, and i followed it and compared it but doesnt seem to cover the models the same.
Hi Josh, it may be how you're applying the paint. Contrast is all about letting the paint pool more in some areas and less in others. Its hard to describe, but a good idea for a future video. I'd say try putting more paint on the model, which should help it flow into the recesses and give you darker shadows. And while that paint is still wet, use your brush to soak up any extra paint from the raises edges if they look to dark. After a while you'll get a feel for the process and it becomes pretty intuitive. Hope this helps and good luck!
@MattsHobbyHour that's probably it to be fair, I was applying it in a thin layer! I'll get some bits that I'm less bothered about and have a practice. Thank you for not just replying but replying so quickly and informatively! I've subbed and look forward to your other videos!
@@some1call999ImDying thanks! Good luck and I hope it works out for you. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions
This is a bit of a late reply, Matt, but when you get time, would you do a guide on doing Trygon in these colours? Thank you, and happy painting!
@@some1call999ImDying that would be a fun one if I get the chance! I've got some big plans for other armies but one day I'd like to revisit some more Tyranids.
I don't even like Tyranids but there is always something new and helpful in the videos.
Awesome job on the tutorials, I love your painting style. One suggestion - that guitar track in the background is way too repetitive, it gets irritating and entrancing at the same time somehow. I would suggest trying something different to replace it.
thanks for your suggestion! I agree about the music. Part of me wants no music at all, but I guess there needs to be something. Ideally i'd like to have it quiet and unobtrusive. I will have to look at other free use tracks and mix it up a bit.
Sorry to say but I think I'm gonna have to steal your scheme hahaha
Please feel free to steal! Thanks for watching!
@@MattsHobbyHourOne thing I'd like to ask btw, is there a way to make the claws look sharper?
@@Zillawill do you mean physically carve the claws to make them sharper? Or are you asking how to make the lines/brush marks look sharper? If it's the former, I would use files during the assembly stage. For the latter, it's all about having a steady hand and a really fine brush. Not much else to it! Good luck!
