Simple Block Log Cabin Quilt using 2 1/2" Strips from Your Scraps

  • Looking for a simple block? Have a lot of scraps? This is the pattern for you! No rules - just a great scrap stash buster. You can cut your scraps into any size strip you wish. And additionally, I am going to make mine wonky. Again, you can make yours wonky or leave it conventional. This is a wonderful pattern because it isn't really a pattern, but more a list of suggestions than a set of rules. So let's break some rules and make a scrappy wonky log cabin quilt.

I was doing a wonky log cabin and added an extra piece to the center. So there were 5 pieces around the center square. And it ended up looking kind of like a rose. So I called it my wild rose block and added some wonky cut leaves too! Hi to Maxine and Oliver❤

These are fun projects since you just grab, sew, cut, repeat. When I do this I place my rotating mat next to my sewing machine, so II don’t have to get up from the machine unlessI want to. That makeweight quick work and less energy. Love your channel, must tell my husband that you save your ribbon too. Lol. Your scrap pile is akin to mine, plus enough pre-cuts, kits and other fabric to last forty years without another purchase. However, I can’t seem to pass up new fabric, guess I am a fabriholic. Loved the video.

I’m a “functioning hoarder” too! Love the idea of putting fabric strips in a glass jar BUT yes, another thing to dust or look at the dust!!!😂 love that-so very much relatable!!! Sadly!!
Love scrappy quilts. My grandma would always make nine-patch quilts from scraps leftover that she had sewn my sister’s and my clothes. Enjoyed finding the scraps that were a favorite dress or top.

I love scrappy. I’m making one atm. Purple 5“ centre and log cabin in blacks and whites around. Joined with the deep purple “ sashing. I think a black Sashing on yours would really make those wonky blocks pop.

I decided to go through my scraps and make all sizes of precuts! Well I don’t have a fancy cutting machine but I have just about every ruler made. I am now into “4” days of cutting. I have massive amounts of jelly roll strips, 10”, 5”, 4 1/2”, 3” and 2” squares. I sorted all scraps by color and kept larger pieces that I use for projects like hats, handbags, totes, pouches etc. I would like to say I have finished but still have 3 boxes left. And now guess what, I just ordered some more fabric from Donna Jordon (couldn’t resist the sale) I guess I just have to feed my habit LOL 😆 Just love watching your videos ❤

Wow. You are Uber organized! That is awesome. I have a video coming up for those 2 1/2” strips. I need to follow your lead on the scraps.
