I really lower my expectations for fan films but THIS ONE had me back in my seat. The attention to detail is so intriguing. Streamed it to my 55” TV and it still held up.
To say that I am infatuated with the Daedalus Class ship is somewhat an understatement. This is the best rendition of this class starship I have seen. Updating it from ST-ENT transitioning into ST-TOS. Bravo and well done!
I don't ask for much in life, but I know that I now want to see a full lenght movie of this encounter, I want back story, characters, context for this engagement, awesome music, I want the whole studio production, animated or live action doesn't matter, this was excellent (one tiny nit, I'd make the beam effect more instantaneous rather than animating its beginning and end, just on, then off), beautiful work
I do love the original look of the Daedalus before her refit. It feels a bit more grounded in reality than the Matt Jefferies concept sketch for the Enterprise. I especially love how the Nacelles look to be supported by secondary struts coming directly from the engineering hull as well as having a spine that runs from the primary hull to the engineering hull..
@@chrislea1000 It definitely is better. I'm not a fan of the Daedalus class, but your rendition is really good. The only real critique I have with the film here is I'm not sure the feds had phasers and photons in the immediate aftermath of the Romulan war.
If I can make a suggestion, some Homeworld-style distortion on the crew voices might be in order: th-cam.com/video/-Z9-mrXyAPo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=DesertPunks is a good example of what they did in say, Cold Waters. Thanks for watching and commenting - I actually added that hiss! The voices are a mix of humans and AI readers, I'm always open to suggestions though as to how to make this more authentic.
"I would LOVE to see some live action bridge scenes intercut with this..." So would I. Is anyone aware of a bridge design for a Daedalus-class vessel (of that era)?

It was a time of ships with lasers and nuclear weapons, a very different Trek, and I expected the hero ship of the series would be a Daedalus-Class ship. What we got was just more of the same ol' Trek we had since the 80s.
Me too, with the exception of a Daedalus Class. It would have been nice - among many things that would have been nice - if the Earth ships looked more like NASA ships, more like the ships in the credits, than the Fed disc-and-nacelles. Then when they get around to the creation of the Federation, introduce the Daedalus as the first ship of the Federation and a brand new design.
Every one forgets in Balance of Terror Spock and Scotty said Romulans of this era had primitive atomic weapons and simple impulse power no warp drive. That means no phasers or disruptors, no photons or plasma bolts - they even made that mistake on Enterprise.
There are some sources showing that some of the early slower Earth ships used fusion powered warp drives. The Romulans most likely did the same since having only sub warp speed ships would not allow them to wage war with a warp capable Earth

Really impressive- I continue to like the Daedalus design, but in this video I am even more impressed by your approach to the tactics these ships might use, their weapons capabilities, the strengths and weaknesses of their sensors, and the design philosophy for the Romulan ship- what their ships might look like when still striving to look like birds but at a clunkier stage of development, like the human ships. Really allows the fan to integrate in our minds the already too graceful birds of prey from Enterprise with the clunky can-style ships implied in TOS and in some written works.
This is awesome! I love the clunkier look for the Daedalus... I mean, I love the canon Daedalus, but this is an excellent "one step down" that looks like what humans would have developed in real life, before getting to the sleek lines of later Starfleet.
Great job with your take on the Daedalus. The original Daedalus has long been my least favorite-looking Starfleet ship in Star Trek, though I could always appreciate the practicality of it. This redesign maintains that practicality while making it significantly more pleasing to the eye, without altering the basic shapes of the design. You could even get a sense that the later donut rings around spherical bridges seen in ships like Discovery could have their origin in being add-ons/upgrades to designs like this Daedalus at some point (before being advanced down the line to the actual Crossfield, etc).
Beautifully done! Nice blending of familiar and original elements. You've taken familiar Trek sounds and design language as well as plausible extrapolations of modern real-world spacefaring, but at the same time created a cohesively original visual style that is distinct, and yet makes perfect sense for the time period.
The straight pylons on this design- much like on the classic Constitution- give the Daedalus an aura of strength, like the engine pods are so powerful they would fly off the ship if it weren't for the thick pylons.
You make the Daedalus class have more verisimilitude than the original models. Also I love the fact that the size shown by the windows makes this almost like a space caravel.
Nice ship, I liked the comm traffic. That being said the motion could be smoother, and some of the sound effects didn't match up to the scene. great work. Keep it up.
I thought that was warp? I liked the visuals.😊if you mean when they said they'd "Transited" I think the creators just wanted to use different lingo to highlight the earlier era.
Man, the Daedalus-class is one of those starships that's so ugly it actually circles all the way back around to being kind of cool, somehow. Great work on the video, by the way, it looks fantastic!
I was never a fan of the Daedalus class but you made me love it. However, I think the officer at Tactical needs to realign his Phaser target acquisition sensors.
I wasn't either as by the time it was mentioned, it was TNG so compared to the Enterprise D, the Daedalus class ships were amusingly primitive and small.
According to non-canonical Star Trek lore, the Romulans during the war were using nuclear fusion powered spacecraft. Nuclear fusion was powerful enough for Romulan ships to reach and just exceed the equivalent of Warp 2. At the height of the Earth-Romulan War, the Romulans took nuclear fusion as far as it would go in technological capacity, around Warp 3.1. Few fans know that during the Earth-Romulan War, Earth did not start out with a plethora of Warp 4 or 5 war ships. Most Earth military spacecraft were still limited to a maximum of just over Warp 3. Also the Romulans struck first, giving them initiative and the ability to choose the place and time to strike. Hence, Earth fought the war with a large mix of old, current, and new military spacecraft with capabilities ranging from Warp 3 to Warp 5. Towards the latter part of the war as Earth lost more and more of its older spacecraft, newer ones came on line with Warp 4 to 5 capability. At some point in the conflict, Earth gained shield technology from its allies, probably the Vulcans or Andorrans. First generation shield technology was a boon for Earth spacecraft, enabling them to survive much longer in battle, being able to shake off initial enemy phaser and torpedo attacks. First generation shield technology had its limits, of course, nothing like the stronger shield technology of the later Star Trek Enterprise. Humans are good at adopting new technology and improving it. It was the humans who later improved Warp speed technology past Warp 6 when even Vulcan technology had stalled at Warp 6, the Vulcans believing at the time that faster Warp was not possible.
Why!!? Why would they simply not do a barrel roll?!?! But in all seriousness this is fantastic. I love the effects. It’s amazing how you can simulate the old effects yet have them be more realistic. Also are those physical models?
I see the Daedalus class and I see what "Enterprise" should have been. A hero ship based of of the design from the Phoenix, but you just know that Paramount was like, "But Star Trek ships are saucers. The viewers won't understand."
I would think that craft that can handle shielding to maintain a warp bubble, would be hardened enough to not be bothered by basic EMP from nukes. They already survive radiation by sitting right next to stars, unless thats a warpcore going off, the EM radiation from a nuke i dont think would matter much, wouldnt it? I love this anesthetic though. Seeing the 'old' ships in new ways makes it look like Trek looked like a hard sci fi, as if it was Trek mixed with the Expanse. Thats pretty dope!
Nice to see an era of star trek and UFP that most fan films aren't doing for once. Awesome 10 out of 10! If I knew how to do videos like this(which I don't lol!) I would be covering the lost era between Captain Kirk's time and begining of star trek the next generation since no one does that. But that's just me. Lol. Again awesome epic video!!!
I do like the post-refit version of your Daedalus better than the pre-refit version. Both are a bit busy aesthetically, but the pre-refit version looks rather like a Star Wars version of Daedalus, whole the post-refit looks like a busier-than-expected Star Trek vessel.

Love that warp speed effect!
I do like the post-refit version of your Daedalus better than the pre-refit version. Both are a bit busy aesthetically, but the pre-refit version looks rather like a Star Wars version of Daedalus, whole the post-refit looks like a busier-than-expected Star Trek vessel.
Wars?
... now that is how I would have imagined the Romulan ships! ...
Love the design of this ship. But I'm always glad that Kirk drives a Constitution Class.
Looks good...👍
Thanks, not long now 😀
