I love it too. What a lot of people don't know is this could have been the Enterprise. It was one of the designs that was presented to Gene. This is one of the things that I mean when I talk about going back and looking at having shows in the past. Could you see a series on the Romulan War? Yes we would have our space battles, but at least one episode cold be devoted to the fight to get this class back into action. And of course we could have more shows after the war. Episodes that were foreshadowed as Star Fleet found interesting things during the war. Besides all this the effort behind bringing the other races into the war, the forming of the Federation and ..... I better shut up before I ruin my chance to work for Hollywood because of interesting ideas.

Love the Daedalus and always have. A simple and sound design. As a mechanic, I can embrace the simplicity and flexibility; which it's long existence is owed to such engineering principles.

This Starship design is one of the many concepts Matt Jeffries had when coming up with the Enterprise for the original series. Indeed it is prototypical of most all the Starship designs that came after. There is a Wonderful beauty in that itself. Jeffries was a Genius designer. It still looks like a "feasible" design for a spacefaring vessel even today.

With all the different styles and takes of the Daedalus Class floating around, and the knowledge that some are still around by the 24th century in private defense fleets after being handed off rather than decommissioned, I like to imagine that so many refits and retrofits have been done to the class over the years since being removed from Starfleet service that no two Daedali are alike. Some have triple deflector clusters while others have one, some have a primary hull deflector while others are smooth, some have warp grills, some have cylindrical hulls while others are ovoid etc.

It’s a no brained that this vessel is a homage to the Discovery(2001:A Space Odyssey).
We hear about it in TNG: Power Play illustration was made in books and manuals and Ben Sisko has a model behind his desk.
A lot of novels made both reference and a Essex novel as well.
And how fate can kill a good thing. The proposed Season 5 of ENT would have a introduction to the Daedalus class ship.
The Daedalus would live on between the 24th/25th Century with the Olympus Class.
The Daedalus class is the Equivalent to the Honda Civic. They can be tuned and made from slow cargo ships to fast battle vessels.
Like the Miranda abs Constellation. The Daedalus was for sure the work horse of Starfleet.
As a man with simple taste, it would be a honor to command one of these machines.
TAS keep up the good work, I swore your voice was used for Starfleet Academy Training.

With only three episodes, what do you think of ST: Prodigy and the Protostar.
The title sounds like another SCE(Starfleet Core of Engineering).
But with a ragtag of misfits fleeing from tyranny, the correct title should be Star Trek:Escapade.

I do appreciate how you made a point of telling a story that ended with the Daedalus taking up its old assumed role of being exploration/science focused. Not a bad way to tie-in with how Starfleet loves to rework existing space frames for newer roles either.

The thing about the Daedalus class is in the finale of Enterprise we hear Reed talk about the new warp 7 capable starships and that I have always assumed that they would be the Daedalus class.
I think this was also later my head canon when I got the game Star Trek Legacy and we had the Daedalus in that as well as 2 other classes I forget the name of but I assume these were by then all warp 7 capable but Archer was still in command of the Enterprise and had Romulan incursions in it - I know its a game and can be taken in any way I guess but even in that game the Daedalus were medical ships.
4:45 This Lieutenant Jonathan Styles - I wonder if his probably I amn guessing again his future great grandson would be the Captain Styles in command of the prototype Excelsior we see in Search For Spock - I am positive it is Captain Styles who is the commanding officer of that.
I definitely like this version of the Daedalus class model, it seems mure fitting and such with a visible deflector dish on it, but some will prefer the model without the visible deflector I am sure, but to each their own tastes.

Excellent concept! I love the way you've smoothly integrated original Alpha/beta canon on the the Daedalus class from TNG, TOS and especially ENT. I was hoping you'd include the Stiles family line into the class' history--good move. Another thing I'd like to add about your channel, unlike the producers of modern TV Trek (except Mike McMahon of Lower Decks), you have a unflinching respect for design canon and embrace the "simplistic" designs from Matt Jeffries and early fan designer Franz Joesph. Another awesome video! All I could think of was the placement of the 8x phaser cannons to ensure omni-coverage. If I were a Captain of a Daedalus class starship, I would do the following:
4x phaser cannons on front facing of sphere, 2x in upper sphere and 2x on lower sphere creating a box formation.
1x phaser cannon on upper rear of sphere.
1x phaser cannon on lower rear of sphere.
1x phaser cannon on cylindrical hull, towards the rear starboard side.
1x phaser cannon on cylindrical hull, rowards the rear port side.
Wish I had more cannons, but that's how I would spread it out. As you can see, I would have an aggressive profile since 4x are facing forward.

That was always starfleet's biggest problem they refused to develop Dedicated warships. Even though several times in its history it had its nose bloodied by not being prepared, they still kept up with their idealism overpracticality. It took the threat of the borg to force them to create dedicated warship platforms, And even then they only made prototypes and never continued on with mass production!

The Daedalus Class is often considered a failed design because the sphere hull but looking back I think that it was the because of the neck. The single connection between the primary & secondary hull would appear to be a bad idea but obviously as it is almost universal to Starfleet. The Daedalus pioneered this design and proved the concept.
As for the sphere, I think it is still present on the saucer type hulls but as the structural core. The Constitution Class has a longer neck with spherical frame that saucer “slice” sections are added to increase habitable areas.

It always made sense for the new Federation Starfleet to build many plain jane, minimally impressive, starships to explore space rather than fewer crown-jewel starships. Space is, after all, tremendously huge, even in the pioneering days not too far away from Earth you'd need a lot of ships to cover ground of exploration as well as day to day operations for going to known worlds for transport and diplomacy issues. This starship class would be very modular so portions of it could be built in on different planetary systems, you can really see the modular design of the pieces of the Daedalus, kind of like a modular home being built from prefabricated parts. This is in contrast than swooping uni-body type starship designs we see later when the Federation becomes more affluent and built up.

Me and a friend are working on a fan fic Enterprise rewrite that starts with the Xindi conflict right off the bat. In the rewrite Archer starts off captaining a Daedalus class starship called the Prometheus (NC-03) during the Xindi mission. Archer will later on get the NX-01 after the mission.

I feel like the third most disappointing thing about Enterprise (after the early cancellation, and that final episode) is that we never got to see this ship on screen

🖖😎👍Very nicely well done and executed indeed, And very nicely well informatively explained to its fullest detail as possible. Also its a very cool looking ship indeed and I own the Eaglemoss model and a model kit of this class of starship as well👌.

Am I the only one who'd like to see a series set on one of these in the late 24th century? I imagine just keeping a 300 year old ship in one piece must be a logistical nightmare

I'd really like to see the ball section scaled up, fitted with retractable warp nacelles _(so it could go into "fortress mode")_ and ablative armour to be used as a mobile orbital defence or scientific platform. I think it would be great to have a bunch of them sat waiting in a ship yard ready to be deployed around a vulnerable planet and able to be recalled once the danger had passed or true defence platforms built.

Excellent. I theorized the first of the NX Class were as follows: Enterprise; Columbia; Challenger; Discovery; Atlantis; Endeavour. I wonder why...?

If they’d just centered the bow/head dome on the beam instead of having it slightly raised a little higher, the Daedalus would actually look decent and make absolute sense.
It was designed with modular rapid production and customization in mind just like the liberty ships of ww2. Many of their hulls were redesigned as jeep /light carriers, troop ships, & other various roles throughout ww2 due to how fast they could be built, easy to convert, & super cheap (they weren’t even expected to last 5 years in non war conditions) if lost & they required very small crews to operate.
If you think of Daedalus along this route it made absolute sense

I love this ship so much! It's so human and ugly! It is exactly what you'd expect from an early Earth with the space frame and tech.

A nice back story for the Deadalus class. In the style of the NX componets the Deadalus class looks realy cool. I it's so bad that we never have offical see the Romulan war, because the NX-01 refit Is allso a very nice design.

Not sure I like the Daedalus Class starting out as a cargo ship. Especially since it doesn’t look like one. I always assumed they were developed alongside the Intrepid or NX Classes. Still cool video. I’m just very protective of this ship lol.

  • @siriax1691

I think the show missed a thing with this class, that much extra crew? means a larger sewage tank. Once the Romulans shields are down beam over the tanks contents to the Romulan bridge, and send a text only message "Shit happens" before jumping to warp.

IMHO: I believe that the early sketches of the Enterprise with the spherical hull influenced the design of The Discovery of "2001 Space Odyssey". Note: Gary Lockwood who was featured, was also in the 2nd Star Trek Pilot!!

Another great job. Interesting that her 1st canon appearance was in DS9 as a model in Sisko's office, and her bridge was originally in the center of the primary hull and not the @ the top. During pre-production of Ent Doug Drexler and others from the production team argued that the Ent should be a Daedalus class to keep in line w/ the Chronicles of Space Flight book that was used during the TNG era shows as part of the series(s) bible... Needless to say they were over ruled by the CBS Brass. Just one of the many issues of the CBS folks messing w/ production to the shows detriment. So sad that Moonves axed the show after Manny Coto had righted the ship, I would have loved to see the Romulan war, NX MK2/ Columbia class and the in world reason for the prefix code and the reason the technology looked so simple back in TOS and TMP era.

I remember reading about this class on the Starfleet museum website I think I remember it saying that it was brought into service in 2161 I think the comet class was a scout and recon ship in the UE-Romulan war

    • @TriAngulumAudioStudios
      @TriAngulumAudioStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

And that would be an incorrect statement as Canon has told us differently... IE TNG's episode Power Play names the Essex as a Daedalus Class and says it was decommissioned by 2196, unfortunately it doesnt say when they first came in to service... Beta Canon on the other hand does, the Star Trek Encyclopedia for example lists it as being commissioned in the early 2140's. The Enterprise Novel, The Romulan War novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing, confirms this along with how by the 2150's the class was considered old... Various other sources, video games and comics also confirm this. So when ALL Beta Canon sources confirm the same thing, then that's the truth until Canon says otherwise!

@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I dunno enterprise for me wasn't what I imagined the pre federation earth to be when I first watched it I fought that the Daedalus would of been like a ship of the line I was expecting to see Yorktown classes and Powhatan classes going up against like cabbage and chowder classes and seeing battles like hell's gate
