Indiana - A Star Trek Fan Film (Ralph McQuarrie)

- Constitution class starships have completed their missions
They have explored new worlds, they have become obsolete
Starfleet considers two options
Upgrade the old explorers
Or create something new
Based on the Ralph McQuarrie design for Star Trek: Planet of the Titans/Star Trek: Phase II. Although unused (for the most part) I wanted to try and squeeze it into a canon context somehow.
Also, I created a new logo for the channel.

"We named the dog Indiana."
"I loved that dog."
-Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
"...the dog? You were named after the DOG?! HA HA HAA HAA!!!"
"I've got a lot of fond memories of that dog."
Sometimes, I love the internet -- I came here to post that sentence and y'all didn't disappoint. Well played, gentlefolks!
All that technology and those starships couldn't hit the broadside of a barn at 10 feet!!!
To be fair, the captain of the ship literally said his ship was not ready for the mission when he was assigned. This stinks of admirals messing things up just to make sure the garage constitution gets refit (I mean, let's be real here: The Constitution was no Mirand)
Stormtrooper accuracy.
Captain - "With all due respect, the Indiana isn't ready"
Starfleet - "Why not, only thing still to be installed are her targeting computers?"
Not till "Tuesday"...lol
Common sense arrives at Starfleet command on Tuesday as well
They don't arrive till Tuesday
"Switch to manual targeting! ... God damn it, you can't aim either??!"
Trust the Force Luke. The Force will be with you, always
Excellent. I like how the Enterprise just shows up and is all, "decommission this!"
actualy I heard from the old Kurtzman trek series that this design actualy became the template for the Crossfield class spore drive design which became both the Discovery and her sister ship known as the Glenn however this TOS version is the Ralph Mc,quarry style Enterprise which retains some of the old Mcquarry astetics of his concept while now being designated as the phase 2 TOS Crossfield Class only without the Spore Drive or the Saucer Ring.
@@FLAME456X Word salad but yes you're right, the Crossfield was based on original concept art which was nice. I did NOT like the 23rd century version, looked out of place, but the 31st century refit looks fantastic.
As the co-author & designer of the official guide to TAS I can’t tell you how much it warms my heart to see the Antares class! And kudos on the Libra name!
There’s another ship in our book (p 31) that never made it screen, but it also looks like a cargo vessel, just a bit chubby!
Thanks. What’s the class?
@@chrislea1000 The class that I listed in my comment above? Oh are you talking about the ship that never made it to the screen? It didn’t have a class it only had a registry of NCC-15 (it was supposed to be a derelict starship and the designer wasn’t told that it was supposed to be an alien derelict spaceship!
'CHRIS'!!!! My Trekker ..... Another, GREAT Video!!!
Funny, that I'm seeing USS Indiana, as I had an Uncle Who WAS onboard USS INDIANA BB-58, during WW2
Amazing Story. You should consider telling more of it
@@andytay5507 Well......... my Uncle didn't tell much to me before his death, bout 30 years ago. BUT he did serve in a LOT of the major campaigns in WW2.....Guadacanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Japanese Home Islands. He was a Gunner's Mate (GM2, by the time he got out of the USN after four [4] years) on 40mm Bofors). He says he, personally, shot down two - four a-c (sharing scores with other personnel), that part he did mention to me... Typhoons, collisions, USN life.....deaths....I think we spoke about his "experiences" for about 40-45 minutes, sharing those experiences as I shared mine as I Enlisted, did 20+ years, but he passed away during my 5th year in....a little before 'Desert Storm'.....
USN Veteran
84 - 05
M. Mares
41 - 45 ......... Thanks Uncle.....
I'd honestly hazard to say that those BOPs may be better referred to as Raptors considering their slightly more compact appearance, and profile, based on the ship of the same designation from Enterprise.
Yeah, I could agree with that actually
Thanks for the assist Enterprise you have my thanks... A little redundant Don't you think? Lol
They said Warbirds
"THAT D6 BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!"
"SO DO YOU!"
That concept for a starship came out in the 70s. HATED IT! But here, seeing it really come to life, it looked great.
LOVE THIS! As always, TOP notch visuals and sound. But the story? I LOVE IT!!! "Obsolete, eh? I got your 'obsolete'..."
Ha, glad you enjoyed it
This is the sort of Trek that needs to be a show. Also, *Enterprise appears on screen* "And that is why you don't decommission the classics." I'd love to have a Libra or that phase II design in sto.
Agreed, a new TOS series is needed to revitalize the Star Trek. This would be a great start.
@@marcosargen3729 Have you seen Strange New Worlds? IMHO, it's fantastic!
The Enterprise may be "obsolete" by 2269, but she's still got teeth.
the phase II design of the connie is in sto its part of the 10th anniversary bundle
@@___Ciel___ You might want to look again. The ship in the STO 10th anniversary bundle is the Crossfield Class, thats a Discovery ship with a temporal lean. I want the real thing not some crappy Discovery wannabe ship.
Beautiful work ❤
Thanks!
Superb! More like it, please!
You would think that either the Klingon or the Romulans would somehow be able to find out that Star Fleet is always so stretched out that they only every have a single, usually unprepared ship to deal with anything.
Or that Starfleet always apparently has a serious shortage of experienced captains. I mean, why are they commanding ships in the first place if they aren't suitably experienced? Are they promoting Ensign Tea Boy directly to the post of Captain because nobody else wants the job?
Hey as we see in our day Woke sucks those DEI hires ! Should it be a DEI hire or the best person for the job---Who do you want guarding the gates??
@@randym7961 Obviously not you!
@@Feargal011 LMAo spoken like a DEI hire
@@randym7961 Yes, my pale, stale male appointee.
A McQuarrieprise! Seriously cool! Well done!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed
The Indiana's weapon officer needs to be fired that was horrible shooting.
Daddy agrees with ya. His name is PO 3rd Class, Patrick Starr. USS Indiana Weapon Station Officer.
Maybe he got a little too excited being in control of the weapons. Okay no, you’re right. He needs to be fired lol
I can't freaking believe it - you made the "Star Destroyerprise" design _actually look like something I'd want to see._
For those that don't know, the _USS Indiana_ is based on one of the designs thought up for "Star Trek Phase II" - the design being drawn up by the same guy (Ralph McQuarrie) that more or less designed the look of Imperial Star Destroyers in Star Wars.
Thanks for the context and for commenting
It is more or less related to Discovery that was also from Phase II.
This is the Star Trek we need, not some of the Trek we got .......... 🖖
Nice work! I enjoyed the "a la carte" approach to the Indiana's design...A bit of TOS, a bit of Discovery, and even a wee bit of the 24th century with the more rounded nacelles...It works well with your theme of transition. +1 bonus for having the Indiana's impulse engines go out as the ship was jumping into warp. That's a detail that many animators miss.
Excellent, really like seeing Indiana on the move. The exposed RCS clusters is a nice touch for detail.
The original Galaxy class concept. It's more beautiful than I ever imagined. Thank you for bringing it to life through Indiana.
I believe that’s actually based on Ralph Macquarie‘s concept for the Enterprise for the unmade “Planet of the Titans.”
You just made my day!! Indiana State, born Dec 11, same as me, now its a Federation ship!! YES, thank you, I hope it goes to canon!!!!!!!!
Poor Libra, and they do love sending a brand new ship out to get damaged when it's not ready, thankfully it didn't have the Tuesday problem, but in the end the Enterprise did what the Enterprise does, and saved the day, nice twist and enjoyable video.
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching
unique and well thought out classic designs are always a win. nice work.
Wow really great Trek Fan Film!! Love the appearance of our favorite old Constitution Class ship, Enterprise!!
Love this! This is really great - Thanks for this!!
Glad you enjoyed, more to come and on the channel
Shades of McQuarrie's POTT study models. Beautiful work.
Enjoyed this. Lovely from a technical and directorial stand point. Only nit pic is that it was weird to see the phaser strikes missing when they said they'd gone for a lock.
The Indiana was not ready, according to her C/O.
@@KentonBenfield well that's REALLY not ready then. from some of those distances, you'd be better of firing manually lol
Excellent, well done, bravo even. Even your special effects were total 1960's style.🖖😎👍
*Nice design, very well rendered!* ⭐😃👍
This is a really pleasant surprise to stumble upon. Glad to see this style of filmmaking it being done.
🖖😎👍Very cool and very spectaculary and wonderfully well done and executed in every detail way shape and form provided indeed Sir!,👌.
Thank you sir
@@chrislea1000 You are more than welcome Sir.
Phasers are having a helluva time locking on. Otherwise this was a pretty cool video.
I love these designs! Different, but so very Star Trek!
I love how Indiana shows up and lets the other ship get merc'ed immediately haha. GREAT stuff OP, love all your work so far!
Glad you enjoy it!
I like the Indy's look a lot. It eeminds me of the Crossfield-class, with TOS flavour. And thr Enterprise cameo was fun, too! Keep up the good work!
On a side note: with all those missed phasers, were those Stormtroopers at phaser control? ;)
This is what the STD era ships should look like
I did a little fist pump (albeit 80’s style) when the Enterprise came in!!😂
@@TheMrPeteChannel Agreed! Although, the score was among a few things I love best about "Discovery." Likewise, Doug Jones' portrayal of Saru.
Crossfield/Discovery was based on the same concept art as this Indiana ship so that's probably why this reminds you of it
This is absolutely stunning. I can't give enough praise for it. The energy, music score and the rendering quality are incredible. You should be very proud of this (hopefully you are!). Cant wait to see what comes out next. Keep it up 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching. More to come
Uniquely filmed and delivered. Thank you so much!
No problem, more to come
GREAT JOB!!! The Adam/Mcquarrie design looks great. One of my favorites since first debuting in the 1970's. You did it justice!!
Thanks for watching and commenting - more to come
Lol, "Experienced Captain" doesn't beam folks off right away, gets them killed, only gets one ship before knocked out...on the new ship, needs the old to save it. Great job. :P Love this work though.
WOW! That's the coolest looking starship I've ever seen 😎 While the design is very elegant it also silently screams "I'm a bad ass. Don't ef with me."
Thanks for watching and commenting
I totally dig ST fan films!
Nicely done.
That was glorious! Grand story telling, beautiful renders and using the ships as the real characters.
Basically, what Discovery should have looked like. Nicely done.
Thanks - glad you like it
Great job on this....
And the name Indiana, definitely fitting
Brilliant animations
Great work. Thanks for saving McQuarries design!
I guess the shuttle bay door arrives on Tuesday.
the concept art lacked a shuttle-bay door.
I get it.
Star Trek Generations movie.
Kirk asked about equipments, and many of them are available on the next Tuesday as the captain said ... :)
@@georgehuszka6856 Yep 100%. Surprised one one else has.
This is what the Discovery should have looked like!
No it shouldn't have. Listen, I love classic trek, but the tos era esthetic looks like fuckin space looney toons. Even ST enterprise looked more advanced when it wasn't supposed to be.
@@kevsha6797, EXACTLY. Don't blame the Discovery series on the look it went with. Even though l enjoyed the Enterprise series, the tech used in that show very much made TOS absolutely outdated. Perfect example is the 2parter Enterprise episode "In the Mirror, Darkley" Favorite episode however it clearly showed that the ships of the Terran Empire looked more advanced than the USS Defiant which was supposedly 100 years more advanced and from the Prime Timeline. Weapons, yes....Looks, nope.
@@kevsha6797tos was always better discovery looks vs goofy
@ussenterprisecv6231 oh totally 🙄 I definitely wish the computer consoles were all black panels covered in Jolly Ranchers and the ships looked like they were out of a 1960s TV show budget.
@@kevsha6797 well star trek was made in 1960s
Fantastic! My favorite one yet.
Realy epic this is how DSC should be. I can see much constitution class refit elements on it. 👍
That was pretty good. 👍
Thanks!
This is what Discovery would look like if Paramount Executives didn't drink and design starships.
The STD ships look like they are from the era of the Picard show. Not the TOS era.
The Indiana’s phaser crews are blind as bats.
Excellent work!!!
Thanks a lot!
Overall this was really well done. I like how you updated the freighter style ship. I remember when Starlog magazine first published Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for the new Enterprise and I thought it looked terrible. You've actually made it look good; well done!
Nicely done!
I hope the waiting room has a picture of the South Dakota class battleship USS Indiana.
BEAUTIFUL
I like how the spacedock even has the little lightbulbs modelled that were in the floodlight hexagons on the actual filming model.
This design is far better than what is passed of as the Discovery on STD.
And yet it still lost and got saved by the so called obsolete Constitution Class USS Enterprise. Even the Enterprise B left Space Dock without a tractor beam, medical personal or photon torpedoes and yet was able to rescue and survive the Nexus event with old school thinking.
Hell yeah representing my home state! Great to see Indiana get a ship name
I love it. The Indiana looks nice.
Awesome work!
Excellent voice acting!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Lovely work mate! Keep it up!
Thanks, will do! More to come
was that a star trek 6 reference lol nice lol ty for the video and LLAP!
Amazing job!
Really nice interpretation of the McQuarrieprize. Very different from the many Crossfield variations due to the long secondary hull. I like it!
what is kinda amazing is that the Indiana takes a lot of inspiration from the U.S. airforce's XB-70 Valkyrie . look it up .
Why does it not suprise me that fans and MMO designers always know how to make a better looking Crossfield class than the actual Discovery we got on TV, Neckline and all! xD
Loved the Antares-type Libra, not sure on the Indiana though... it's not as elegant as the Connie nor as aggressive as the Excelsior, but I can see the inspiration, the phase-2 Enterprise. The pre-B'rel Klingon ships aren't a half-bad design. Can no tactical officer hit anything with phasers?
Gunner was probably an Asshole.
Good video 📹 make more and next time Indiana will be just as good as enterprise 😊🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Excellent stuff 🖖
Nicely Done!
Great how they brought the cargo ship from The Animated Adventures to life.
Phenomenal job! 👍
I'm so glad Phase II got cancelled because in another universe we never got the Connie Refit but this bastard offspring of a Constitution and Star Wars cruiser instead. No sleight intended of course and it was a cool little video and excellently made too.
If the Discovery had looked like this, people wouldn't have been so outraged.
I would love to see more of the Indiana at some point!
Bonjour, j'aime beaucoup le concept. Bravo
Nice work
this looks really cool😊
Thanks, glad you enjoyed
That was awesome
The lost art of aiming you weapons
That was brilliant, well done
Well, thank you for that comment
Nicely done. I wish that was what Discovery looked like.
Really cool!
Sweet. Thanks for making this. I enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It's amazing how often Star Fleet has to send a ship out of space dock because there are "no experienced commanders".
Impressive work.
Cool ship!
Nice job!
Great Story so Thank You ;
Thanks for watching and commenting - more to come
The ENT warp effect is my favorite.
Glad you enjoyed
Nett gemacht, ein klein wenig Nostalgie 🖖
Also +100 for using the McQuarrie design.
That innocent little cargo ship. Klingons can be real cowards (at least in this version).
Fire the Tac Officer of the Indiana, He sucks . LOL
TOS era Crossfield class, interesting
If it turns out the Captain of the Indiana is a guy named Jones, I will scream.
