I use regular cooking starch (like potato starch) I make a sort of 'gravy' with just starch and water. I submerge my stars, squeeze out the excess and pin them. Takes about a day to dry and they come out great

About what proportion of water to glue? I tried this method before but I had too much glue and it gave my snowflake ornament a plasticy feel.
I suggest you do a search on google as I am not sure!
