I bought my MK4 RZ about 18 years ago that was imported by another person into Australia. I was even able to find the original sale pictures of the car from the King Buyer website way back then.
That's amazing, it's such a great place, fantastic you could enjoy this historic, timeless, freak of engineering masterpiece and track its roots like that. I think each one has a unique story and I want to find out and try to share some if I can.
Prices have come down a bit in the US, 75k-95k cars are now selling for 55k-65k I've owned my MKIV 6 speed hardtop for 20 years and got it for 16K back in 2004 so I hope the prices go back up so I can have a supplemental 401k in 30 years
I'm more glad the prices are coming down a little (actually more than a little that's a substantial decrease), it makes that dream collection attainment more realistic and also, hopefully parts would be cheaper too. Personally if I had bought in 2004, and still had 20 years later, I couldn't imagine selling for retirement, no sir, you can bury me in it haha
The prices are not nearly as bad as I thought, how does a targa top right hand drive model compares to these other supras price wise? I just subscribed and I am looking forward to your next videos.
Out of 28 A80s currently up for sale that I've seen, only 1 is a Targa (all are RHD). This Targa is a beast of an A80 with a long list of modifications and an F&F orange paint job (only orange, no decals / livery). It's a ‘93 GTE, 68k km, at ¥11m.
These examples are certainly questionable that 99 szr so front guards are wrong the rear markers are missing seems more like a rebirth, that RZ the driver recaro has been switched out becuase it was probably worn to shit.
Yep after a couple of decades and several 10s of thousands of miles the wear and tear is reflected in the prices I think. I'm constantly hypothetically estimating what level of condition I would balance against a fair price for such to start a new A80 project.
@SupraTokyoJohn having replaced more on my supra than alot with new oem to build what is as close to new as possible, these days you're half dealing with discontinued parts and you want to go through the level of replacement I spent near on 20k aud in 2015 so these days at least 30k for the equivalent oem parts probably more.
It's a lot of money, but kind of what I would expect. Aiming for as new as possible sounds like an almost endless pursuit for perfection. I'm not sure yet what my goals for mine would be but regardless it would be a hobby type project with expectations for a decent amount of money to be "invested".
@SupraTokyoJohn yep it's an endless journey as when a new part is next to an old it's like well best buy that too, problem is where can you even take them these days. They have lost they carefree appeal, it's insured appropriately but worst case the odds of finding another late 98 onwards unmolested RZ the numbers weren't there when they were new (379 total rz built after mine) and they certainly aren't better 25 years on
I've added their prices and converted to USD for each one in the video. Let me know if it's hard to see or find or if another approach could be better.
I've converted the price from Japanese Yen to USD at the moment (approx. 150) and the average exchange rate for USD and Japanese Yen from the past 10 years (110). I've written both for each car on screen when looking at each car. Let me know if you can't see it or it's hard to understand and I'll try to make it more clear the next time I make a video like this.
Thanks, I'm still obviously very new to making videos but having fun. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by original so let me try to answer and if I've misunderstood please kindly let me know. A80s, as original as you'll get around here. Each with a few very light mods (wings, bumpers, rims, steering wheels, shift knobs, seats, air intake’s etc). Video, it's my own and only taken a week ago. Video idea, I don't believe I've seen a recommended place or method of A80 purchase with current examples in Japan close to Nov 2023. I thought if this seems to be of interest I might do a kind of annual update on what inventory looks like and speculate on any fluctuations. Again if I've misunderstood your question please let me know 🙂
There are ways you can export out of certain countries including Japan however you need to be really careful who you deal with and with the condition of what you are buying. As for importing into India, unfortunately I am not sure of the rules and regulations for that side of the process.
As an example I have added to prices of the Supra's in this video on the screen as I look at each one, in both JPY and USD. Let me know if it's not clear or if you have anymore questions.
Having spent alot of time in japan the past few years supras there are very uncommon these days. You see more r34 gtrs and Nsx on the streets driving around
Totally agree. I see a lot of R34's, I also see more NSX's, and probably FDs than A80s these days but happy when I see any of the above. It'll never get old 🙂
That's really good to hear. I don't have such visibility and learning that makes it interesting what the comparison is like between all countries. I also wonder what the availability is like, if the prices reflect a similar supply and demand 🤔
@@SupraTokyoJohn there is about 50 available in aus that I seen at the moment..all different models tho.. rz-s bing the pick of the bunch...took me 2 years to find a semi stock original RZ...
That doesn't sound too bad considering the population, although perhaps a little tricky in terms of viewing and transporting considering Aus's massive size. By pick of the bunch, do you mean there's more RZ-S's than the others or that they're the most sought after? I would have thought the RZ's would be most popular.

in 30 years EVs will have taken over. no one is gonna want a sub 1k horsepower car. you should sell at the peak here in maybe the next 5 - 10 years
