Cars For Sale in Japan are CHEAP! Since Japanese Yen Crash!

- It's been over 38 years since the JPY crashed this low! It's never been a better time than to buy cars in Japan & export them. But how much are these cars selling for locally?

It's important for people who don't live in Japan to understand that our economy is having severe issues and people aren't spending as much because they're focusing on saving due to rising costs of everything.
Edit: Ya'll are all saying "iTs eVeRyWhErE", but have no understanding of the global import/export of the Japanese Yen to other currencies.
Bro it's awful here as well.... BAD
Same is here in the united kingdom fuel prices is still high along with food prices
thats a worldwide issue bro
That's the case almost everywhere.
I am trying to get more information on this from Japanese perspective in English. Do you know of any channels I can listen to. Thanks.
Truth be told, Skylines and most RHD don’t sell in the USA anymore at all unless they are dirt cheap and clapped out. USA dealers that specialize in RHD are sitting on major stock right now, nothing is selling.
Nobody wants to be married to RHD . 🤷
@@Vgk36 Very True. Every RHD dealer I see has the same cars for over 6 months, plus the time of buying and importing, so call it 8-9 months without selling. Most cars have been on the lot even longer. They bought them too high and now are just sitting on them and I can guarantee they won’t sell anytime soon.
Not surprising considering how prices have been post covid. No one should be paying 20k+ for a GTST, and 40k+ for a Gtr or a Jzx, especially considering you can get something modern with maybe 98% of the enjoyment, and 2% of the headaches, for roughly the same price. It's just not worth it for the large majority of an already niche market. I'm saying this as a Skyline owner myself too.
@@thefallensaints nowadays dealers are asking 40k for R34 GTT coups and 20k-30m for the sedans. Nobody is buying the S15 Silvia’s either. I also own a few Skylines, definitely didn’t pay those crazy prices but I imported them all myself.

You can resell them in the states for double the price or triple
@@dabzgames9776am i buying a car to drive or to flip tho
@@dabzgames9776 no you can't, you're living in a dream. Nobody is paying 50k for a clapped FD "from Japan" that's RHD. The places right here in Tampa and over in Orlando that import aren't selling shit, they just sit for months and months.

It's an Civic FD Type R not Integra btw
They are cheap as chips here in thailand. But they're all automatics with k20

I am pretty sure when I first moved to Japan in 2006, you could buy an R32 or FD for around 1.5 million yen, then when they became legal to sell in America the car dealers doubled there prices. Despite the yen being the lowest in 38 years I still doubt I will be able to buy one anymore. What I should have done is buy one back in 2006 when I first arrived when I had the money.
how long did it take for you to adept to living in japan?
Same bro, except worse I had an R34 in Scotland and I sold the damn thing for 36k 🤦♂️
I was moving to the states….
Thought that was a civic not a Integra?
Definitely a civic 🤦♂️
Fd2 type R probably not his cup of tea
i came straight to the comments 😂
An Integra
100% an integra or Acura RSX for the US
Prices of anything export-worthy in Japan are increasing fast enough to offset the falling value of the yen. Sellers are essentially pricing them at their $USD/EU/AU equivalent value in yen. I bought a RA25GT Celica from Japan about 10 years ago for ¥1.2m and I've seen similar cars advertised for more than ¥5m recently.
Anything non-export worthy seems cheap to us, but its still expensive to them due to zero wage growth in the last 30 years.
So the only people seeing bargains are foreigners bringing their strong dollar with them to Japan.
These cars are no bargain at all (to ship to the US).
You have to add Japan buyer's fees (if any), inland shipping to port, export papers, transatlantic shipping+insurance, US customs (paperwork and duty), US inland shipping, state inspection/certification where it's registered, state tax, and it's still a right hand drive car - which is a disadvantage on several levels. Insurance is surely to be HIGHER, as the car doesn't show up in Carfax or in the car insurance database when they plug in the VIN, so it has no verifiable history in the US.
Correct, one of my biggest issues with them is the RH drive, no thanks.
Damn that sound like alot of trouble
I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. The shoe game and the car game go hand in hand. Shoe prices drop, so did the car market lmao! LOVE IT! Buyers market.

@elijahtheprophet963 sweet you gotta pay someone to inspect it over in Japan?

Ive actually seen an increase in the price of japanese cars lately, for example a year ago you could find Altezzas for around 7k usd shipped, now its more like 10k shipped

Yeah I took advantage of the yen/dollar exchange and bought some Beatrush subframe braces for my IS300. I genuinely paid half taxes and shipping included of what Beatrush USA charges before tax and shipping for the same items.
was there really a difference in price
@@imperial178 yeah huge difference. Beatrush USA wants $323 plus tax and shipping (around $400 total) for the front brace and Blackhawk Japan charged me $146 with taxes and shipping included. The rear brace was about the same prices as well. Basically for the price of one of the braces from Beatrush USA I got both from Blackhawk Japan with taxes and shipping included.
New Zealand has no tariffs or taxes on Jap cars imported here you pay jap price and about 5000 NZ dollars for shipping and road registration
the only thing i worry about buying cars from japan is rust.
Mainland cars are fine, I had 3 years importing to the UK. Only ever had issues with paintwork on a veilside R32
I mean, you can always undercoat a good example, it's not super expensive
@@UkStiggy How much did importing it cost?
@@Sithhyyou could but that usually needs re done every year or else it starts actually accelerating rust because it traps moisture. There's many factors to consider such as drain tubes clogging over the years and rubber sill plugs on the rockers letting moisture in rusting from the inside out. Not even an undercoating solves that issue. Best to just buy a babied one unless you don't mind a restoration
@@lessthanperfect444restoration is the cool way to go because you have the peace of mind knowing you’ve touched all the spaces in the car. You’ll never really know with a untouched car
The last 300ZXTT was sold in the USA in 1996. There were minor improvements to the Z32 Fairlady TT in 1998. I tell everybody who always wanted a 300ZXTT or collects different versions of the 300ZXTT should get a 1998 or later Z32 Fairlady TT.
It is legal to import one 25 years or older. I don't know if I ever read of anybody getting a Z32 Fairlady TT, because it is not too hard to just buy a 300ZXTT in the USA.
Finally after years of watching he finds a s12 silvia! I own 5 of them all with different engines, hell even a twin turbo vq37vhr s2apped widebody one also imported a RS-X fj20et s12 hatch

B-GREO are BRIDE seats, but were made in very limited numbers over a year to two in the early 00's.
Getting them to UK is still +£2k for shipping and duty+vat @20% from the whole price(shipping included). There save you some research if you are in UK.
Awesome video as always Sammit.
It has less to do with the jpy conversion and more to do with how the used car market works here, it's not big like it is in the US. That said most cars that people are interested in exporting are just being overpriced at this point taking out the margin for the exporter if the goal is resale. I have an R34 and Audi Q3 here currently, I'll send the R34 back to the US with me once I go back home but will likely just junk the Q3 because it's not worth the effort of trying to sell used and it's not valued high enough for me to care.

Nah mate. Nothing to do with Currency Exchange Rates.
Japanese Used Cars have always been relatively cheap.
After 3 years the additional road tax makes them a losing proposition to the owners. Pay more tax per year of age of the Car.

Shout out sammit for dropping the knowledge for so many years now I remember when he did mention about all the scammers on how they would do it but he just reminded me how they can be
The weird trend over here are Chinese and Sri Lankan lot owners who scout for the breaded importers in Dubai. They scoop up a 100 cars at a time. No bargaining as the Japanese see the JDM blue chips as a better store of currency that ¥ in the bank so to speak. My 2 cents after living here for two years.
