  • Our Clinical Director, Megan Garvey, shows you how to do what is called a "Butterfly Hug" which is a form of Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). You can use this technique at home to help yourself get through a situation that might cause you to be uncomfortable.

My son aged 12 sometimes taps my shoulder and sings a lalaby to me (which i sang to him literally 1000 times) and i fall asleep immediately and feel like happy angel 😇

I believe that for small traumas (memories of offenses or insults etc ..) it can also be done alone but for serious traumas (violence, earthquakes etc) then you have to do it with a therapist.

I did this and suddenly started crying intensely and like got panicked and was almost screaming but nothing was coming out and breathing rapid but eventually calmed down. Is that normal? Like it was a massive energy release?

I’ve heard it’s not a good idea to use bilateral stimulation without a trained clinician present to assist or guide. What are your thoughts on this?? Thanks!

EMDR can be very helpful and powerful, and with all due respect to Ms. Garvey, this is not really EMDR. EMDR follows a protocol in which the patient is helped to develop a frame of mind in which they are holding both the distressing thought as well as being aware of the bodily sensations simultaneously as they are bilaterally stimulated. Most importantly, a trained therapist is there to guide them and help them overcome any blocks / resistances that emerge and to assist them if they have an abreaction. (I'm oversimplifying it.) What is being demonstrated is mostly the bilateral stimulation part.

@Vatican Cameos Her voice is her voice. Turn the CC on and the volume down if it bothers you that much. Or better yet, watch one of the other 5 billion TH-cam videos available.
