  • This exercise uses specific, strategic positioning of the eyes and head to send body messages of safety to the brain. Once the brain receives and believes that you are truly safe, it will relax in the form of a yawn, sigh or swallow - leaving you feeling more calm, centered and grounded.

    The Vagus Nerve Reset -
    1. Lay down, settle and focus your attention and awareness to the presence of your hands behind the base of your head; where your head and your skull meets.
    2. Move your eyes in the direction of 3 o’clock.
    3. Maintain until you: Yawn, Swallow or Sigh. (Note: depending how stressed your nervous system is, this can take 10 seconds to 2 or 3 minutes).
    That’s it. Thanks Renee Ostertag.

    I was skeptical. TH-cam recommended this to me, no idea why because it’s not my thing, BUT Just tried this and it’s unbelievable… at first nothing happened after getting into position and moving my eyes towards three o clock… I felt stupid but just kept the position… and about 90 seconds in I had the biggest SIGH (the kind where you suck in three breaths like after crying) and exhaled. I feel utterly relaxed and amazing. THANK YOU

    Hi. I'm not sure why TH-cam's algorithm suggested this video for me. It's not related to anything else I've looked up or watched. However, I happened to have had severe experiences with my vagus nerve. One so severe I blacked out at work after hitting my ankle bone. Later, I was told I turned gray and they couldn't get a pulse on me. I have a lot of suppressed stress due to family issues, marriage and trying to live above it all. My pain tolerance is very high and I believe it does more harm than good sometimes. No medical professional has ever informed me of any of this. Actually, I had no idea it was tied to stress. Thank you.

    • @annel2875
      @annel2875 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yes the medical profession don't even get an hour in their 7+ year education to learn about life trauma (rather than acute obvious trauma). Maybe listen to Gabor Mate and Peter Levine among others to understand how you ended up there. Maybe your personality leads you to more stress than needed as well. Good luck.

    Thank you sooooo much Renee for your video 😀 I have been having panic attacks for years and upon waking up this morning I felt one was coming. My osteopath mentioned to me that it had to do with my vagus nerve. So when I felt the panic attack coming I looked for a video on how to relax the vagus nerve and found your video. To my surprise it worked!!! Your exercise completely aborted the panic attack!! I’m so thankful to you because I have been suffering for more than 20 years. THANK YOU!!!! 🙏🙏🙏

    Onde day at work, I was sitting at my desk and started a conversation with a fellow coworker. Usually I feel extreme anxiety when socialising at a professional level. But this particular time, I crossed my hands behind my head for whatever reason. I noticed that all the anxiety instantly vanished and I started feeling a lot more relaxed, to the point where I felt super confident to have any conversation at all wit anybody. And that lasted for a couple of hours.
    This is the first time I see someone talk about this!

I tried it and it seemed to work and then forgot about it. Some years later I tapped myself on my nose and it made me smile and I remembered.
