    This is a very helpful exercise. I do this with my therapist. Thank you for describing it so well.

    I remember my mother (diagnosed narcissist) saying she put all her painful memories in a box and then put the box on a shelf, and she was never going to take it down and open it.
    That's what she does. All the $hitty things she's done to her own children. All the horrible things that happened to her as a child (and it's a heartbreaking story, indeed). She puts it all in boxex, puts each box on the shelf, and never deals with it. Ever.
    Narcissists are the uber-compartmentalists.
    I think my eye started twitching a bit when I was first listening to this. lol I've been no contact since 2004.

      Ah! You are right about narcissists being uber-compartmentalists. (So sorry, by the way!) Hopefully how this technique is different came through. I've also recently started a number on narcissists... I wish you health and healing.

    It worked out the imagination. I have none. Any ideas on working on that would be liked and used. Thank You.

    Thank you Barbara. I'm going to try this technique. I will start EMDR therapy this month with a trained EMDR therapist. I love your videos.

    My container is a beautiful engraved white satin lined coffin and I barfed in it and put it into the Violet flame furnace. Gone! Transmuted into the light. I don’t want to ever open that lid again. No need. Bc I trust my Violet flame! It’s what my mind did. I’ll get back to you about the success. I know the idea is to take each one out but maybe you don’t have to if you Trust in Your vision.

    I started this with my therapist but I am struggling with it because I have become emotionally numb/disconnected/disembodied in the last few years,

    The problem I have with this is that the emotions seem to have an autonomy, a life of their own, so cannot be contained as they are a part of me.

    I tried this . I have PTSD. So I just couldn't see me putting anything in it. Like what to put in it or why?

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes it is helpful to use this exercise if you have unwanted thoughts - it is a visualization to help "compartmentalize." It doesn't work for everyone, however! Also, it is sometimes helpful to do when working with a professional.

      @tanyawieczorek6603 wow it's been 2 years. I highly recommend EMDR therapy. Meditation and breath work. Also I trained my brain to understand my triggers and how to be present and know what's real what's not. Learning the body holds trauma memories helped me a lot.

    I was unable to download the PDF Guide on Transform your Negative Core Beliefs. The link opens but the button there doesn't work. Any ideas?

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen: Can you check again? It seems to be working - the button then asks you to input name and email, and then you'll get an email with a download button. The PDF will go right into your download folder on a mac, so check there if you don't see it. LMK!

    My client has extreme difficulties imagining and visualising... if I ask him he gets really triggered. So although it would be useful he just isn't able to at the moment.

    Please leave your advertising to the very end of your presentation otherwise it is disruptive 🙏🙏🙏

      Thank you for your feedback. The mention of my free resource was after the visualization exercise - I would never put it in the middle! I am sorry you found it disruptive, truly. Yet producing the amount of free content I produce is challenging, and it is necessary to sometimes bring in something that links to business. I appreciate your understanding and hope you find my material helpful!
