No, because he was already rebuilt into Optimus before receiving the Matrix, whereas Hot Rod never had a refurbishment. It's like how a new graphics card boosts performance but doesn't change how the computer tower looks
Optimus Prime still should have been upgraded again after the matrix was added? Look at Scourge a person could say, he was Thundercracker, then Scourge (Unicron reformation), then deformed powerful Scourge (Matrix). Optimus should have been Orion Pax -> Optimus Prime (Alpha Trion upgrade of op) -> OP Optimus Prime (Alpha Trion upgrade + Matrix) Edit: One off topic question, why was Alpha Trion in the matrix, and he was also in Vector Sigma? Optimus similarly was in the matrix, then in Dark Awakening his consciousness woke up in the zombified form?
@@alanguages Becoming deformed is _entirely_ different from being upgraded. He was given power, but he was also driven insane AND it was slowly killing him too, if I recall. As for your question, it's entirely possible that, since the Transformers are machines at the end of the day, bonding with the Matrix could have _A)_ forged a long-distance connection with the consciousness, allowing it to be a relay for them no matter where they were, no matter the form, or (more likely) _B)_ created a copy of their consciousness (possibly just as the Matrix detects that it's about to be handed off) to serve as the poster child for the era they carried the Matrix during. Or, it could be a mixture of the two, or something different. Maybe Alpha Trion was in the Matrix because it's actually connected to Vector Sigma. Maybe Optimus disappeared from the Matrix during Dark Awakening, with that being the method for how Optimus was purified. Who knows. This would definitely be an interesting discussion for Rodimus to put forth, though, so interesting question.
@@tahutoa In other words you and the rest of us don't know. It would be interesting, like you pointed out for a discussion. One transformer was damaged inside the matrix, when Optimus was going through the depths to find the cure for the hate plague. I recall my brother thought, it was an autobot leader, that dishonoured the matrix of leadership and thus was not in full healed form within.
@@tahutoa I am going to put a theory, which I thought of before, but did not think much of it. The theory why Optimus Prime does not revert back to Orion Pax isn't just he was rebuilt into Optimus Prime, but the Matrix was in the possession of Optimus Prime for a longer period of time (Millions of years). I thought there was a point, where if an Autobot leader had the matrix long enough, they would not revert back. In Rodimus's case, he likely did not even have it for 10- 30 years. Considering Spike is still alive and not a senior old man.
Hot Rod was upgraded by the Matrix while Optimus was upgraded by Alpha Trion and picked up the Matrix later. I think that's the major difference between the two.
I want a buddy cop movie with prime and iron hide before the Fall of Cybertron trying to rescue and of the Autobot stuck behind enemy lines. No humans just transformers do it like the bumblebee opening.
Optimus Prime's body was designed to hold the Matrix and was intentionally designed to become the Leader of the Autobots. Ultra Magnus had a similar design of Optimus, likely with the intent of being Prime's eventual successor.
This is definatly a good topic, but us old schoolers know that Aipha Trion physically built Orion Pax into Optimus Prime. That being said, he will always maintain that look. Ofcourse Hot Rod is just changed by the matrix only. I can see where that would be a question for some that did not see this awesome G1 series over and over. The G1 series for me, never gets old. For me, its what is and always was. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks! G1 never gets old for me either. I've been asked this question a lot since I did that How did Optimus come back video, so it's about time I answered it!
"Gave the matrix back to a quintesson controlled zombie Optimus Prime" ...... Thank you for that mind blowingly accurate, but completely insane sounding sentence.
That is how I always viewed it. The matrix upgrades the body if the existing hardware can't handle the power. Alpha Trion upgraded Orion Pax to be able to handle the power before installing it so the matrix didn't need to reconfigure him.
I've always been a big Ultra Magnus fan, but he proved himself an unworthy leader when he thought that his imminent destruction was the Autobots darkest hour.. Great leaders aren't focused on their own fate but the fate of their cause.
We all should have known it was Hot Rod all along. He looks like Rodimus Prime and the matrix reacted to him touching it at the beginning of the movie. I too love Ultra Magnus. I had the toy as a child. But man, he should have known right there. "Look, Hot Rod, that thing just lit up when you caught it. Perhaps you should try opening it?" Lol
I agree with everyone here who are saying that Optimus doesn't revert back because he was given the Matrix after he got rebuilt. I have nothing else to say, so, this was a great video and I hope you have a great day.
I was hoping, and was not disappointed, when you included that epic quote from Galvatron: "oh really? It was The matrix? Then this, too, is the fault of The matrix!!"
It was a complete remodel when Alpha Trion worked on him in episode War Dawn. So no, he cannot revert back to Orion Pax. Same way Elita 1 cannot revert back to Ariel.
As for the G1 version, I think that only the "chosen" ones that can access the Matrix get a physical upgrade when they have possession of it. That would be why Ultra Magnus doesn't change when he has it.
I believe that the Matrix only upgrades those who "need" to be upgraded. Hot Rod was basically a kid, not much older than Daniel (relatively speaking) and so Obviously a Teenager Can NOT lead the Autobots, therefore the matrix "Matured" him into an "older version" of himself. Just one opinion, but not unlikely.
Dion, A.K.A. Ultra Magnus was rebuilt by Alpha Trion along with another dead Autobot that was turned into armor. He does not change for the same reason Prime doesn't. And Magnus has already beaten all of the Decepticon Combiner teams by himself.
I knew the answer was "because Alpha Trion physically rebuilt him into his current form while Hot Rod was transformed by the Matrix" when I saw the title. Still a great presentation, tho! 👍
I think it doesn't effect Prime's body because Alpha Trion actually rebuilt his body. So it doesn't down grade him to Orion Pax's body because Orion's body is no more. It's only Prime's body now.
IF Orion Pax was upgraded by the Matrix, I wonder how he'd look. He might look COMPLETELY different to Optimus Prime. I'd love to see a Transformers series or comic where this happens.
When there is a rumour that ultra Magnus was what Optimus Prime's Matrix form was ment to look like but this is just a theory built around the Ultra Magnus toy. Seeing that the trailer for ultra Magnus was folded around a white Optimus Prime and then a larger head was fitted over Optimus Prime's head.
IDW kinda did this BUT there should be said that IDW Orion Pax was a Police Officer who already was built to fight so he did not look all that diffrent once he got the Matrix.
Keep in mind that Optimus had the Matrex for literally millions of years, compare to the few months that Rodimus did, likely making the changes permanent. Also, Prime candidacy is probably a rare trait.
He would, if he wasn't rebuilt by Alpha Trion into the body he has now. The Matrix didn't edit his body, as it had already been edited by construction. His "new" Orion Pax body and his Optimus Prime body are the same. Ultra Magnus didn't get edited, as it hadn't been opened. Galvatron didn't get edited either, as a Natural Autobot is needed, not a Decepticon. Oh, and when a Matrix Bearer dies, a section of his spark enters the Matrix. This has a different effect on different Autobots, hence Optimus and most others gain charisma and leadership, but Rodimus gains severe Self-esteem issues.
@@sethseidler2087 Completely forgot about that. As a servant/creation of Unicron he was edited too, but in a negative sense. Galvatron did't edit as he didn't even put it in his chest compartment.
Hot rod got edited before opening it as soon as he ripped it off Galvatron optimus said arise Rodimus prime then he kicked Galvatron ass then opened it the reason he got a new form is because of hot rod size
Rodimus just became the new leader of the autobots. Optimus had 9 million years of experience behind him! Prime probably went thru the Same issues. But thay subject never came up to be explored.
Tbh, this video has told me something I had already figured. But it does give some weight to the Ultra Magnus is Dion argument in my eyes. I also assumed that the reason it didn't effect Galvatron while it was chained to him was because either it did not choose him, or it will not work worn as a necklace. Mostly the latter. Also, the Billy Batson analogy made me smile. :)
Rodimus was the fulfillment of a prophesy. "One day an Autobot shall rise from our ranks, and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour" It could also be argued by another line of dialogue just before that. When originally offered the Matrix, Magnus says "I'm just a soldier, I'm not worthy" to which Prime responds "nor was I " meaning the reason Prime and Magnus be er changed was because that were not worst, but ,Hot Rod was the prophesied one
Actually that is not true. As Optimus Prime said " One day a Autobot will rise fro m our ranks and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkess hour". Which was a reference to the hate plague at the end of Season 3 of the G1 series.
On the flip side, back before hard drives were common (which was around the time the G1 Transformers cartoon was airing, by the way), floppy disks were the primary storage medium. So, depending on what disk the computer was booted with, it could have a large number of different "forms" that were hardly permanent.
I always found validation regarding my headcanon for Dion-Ultra Magnus by the fact that he and Optimus Prime have the same design for the Matrix Compartment created by Alpha Trion.
Very early speculation: Orion Pax was not reformatted directly by the Matrix, but rebuilt by Alpha Trion with the intention of carrying it. Let's see RP's take, though. EDIT: Seems we are in agreement
In the five faces of death mini serious, when Rodimus was learning from the previous leaders. None of them changed. Ultra Magnus when he received the matrix from Optimus ,he didn't change at all! This would lead to the conclusion that the matrix increased Hot Rods body and strength for a certain reason. To be able to fight and defeat Galvatron. Ultra Magnus body was strong and powerful enough that didn't need to be changed. As for Optimus, it was the similar situation. His former body was to weak to fight megatron. But once alpha trion rebuilt him, Optimus's body was enhanced by his creator. And thus the matrix did not need to change Optimus body. But it did give Prime the power and wisdom that was needed. Hot Rod is the only autobot that the matrix decided to change when he became Rodimus Prime. He is a unique case.
and if you look there isn't a big change between Hot Rod and Rodimus outside of their alt forms, which I'm guessing was reformatted to accommodate the trailer which might be something all primes get, and when a prime transforms the Trailer is actually hiding in the matrix
Hot Rod and Optimus Prime show the diference between a Chosen One and a Hero. The Chosen One is chosen to fight evil regardless of what he wants, he is dragged into the main events and ends winning because destiny or whatever power in charges decided it. Ther Hero chooses to fight evil by his own volition, his victory is not guaranteed and he may die without achieving his mission but he still goes.
Based on this video and like your Bumblebee voice video; a perfect topic for a discussion video could be whether or not Optimus and Megatron should be former friends.
Depends on continuity. G1, no as he gives the matrix to rodimus before the suicide run on the quintessons. Prime, only in his mind. Bayverse, no as he didn't even have the matrix for the first film.
If I had to guess for an in-universe explanation, it may have to do with Matrix Affinity, or experience. Optimus had the Matrix for eons, he was a tried and proven leader, so he had long since settled into the identity of Optimus Prime. With Rodimus, he still longs for his carefree days of being Hot Rod, and he still had his doubts towards his own leadership. He was still on that journey Optimus was on. With Optimus, he was Optimus with or without the Matrix, so his spark had settled into that form the Matrix had given him. With Rodimus, the difference between him and Hot Rod is responsibility of the Matrix/Prime Hood. He had yet to really accept that. To paraphrase the good books, "When I was a child, I thought as a child, spoke as a child, acted as a child. When I became a man I put childish things away." In Rodimus' case it's less 'man' and more Prime, and he has yet to do that. ... Or you know, it's because Optimus was rebuilt into Optimus from Orion Pax, via Alpha Trion and then given the Matrix, or even built to have the body of a Prime. Personally I prefer my theory because it's more character driven.
I think I like both. That's a REALLY good analogy, since Paul was referring to maturity which is in Rodimus Prime's motto. "Experience is the benchmark to maturity."
Does anyone ever remember what his job was before the war? He was a librarian Well, a Record's Clerk, or a Bookie But he had the most terrifyingly mundane job, and was drafted into curbstomping Decepicons No, not drafted Volunteered
I always thought with Optimus his body was built exclusively for the Matrix and like you said the matrix makes him a little stronger and to gain the wisdom or knowledge of the matrix.
I think it's and interesting thought that Optimas may not have been built originally with an affinity for the matrix in G1 similar to Ultra Magnus. This could be where the term "primes aren't built, they are made" more true as until Hot rod, no one could have been built at their creation with an affinity for the relic for sever generations which is why sentinal and a few other primes who had the matrix turned bad as they weren't true primes. Optimus became a prime, hot rod was born as one. This builds a lot of respect for Optimus, as he truly started as nothing but a humble data clerk and became a leader without compare even amongst those created for that purpose.
I've never really liked how Rodimus kept reverting back to Hot Rod personality-wise when he loses the Matrix, it kinda annihilates the character development he gets in the Movie by attributing the personality change entirely to the Matrix instead of an actual natural personality change he got through developing as a person and a character. So, to me, whether or not it's because he got rebuilt before he got the Matrix or whatever, it makes sense to me for Optimus not to revert back to Orion Pax when he loses the Matrix.
Well when you loose the collective knowledge of all past leaders you'll definitely loose some aspect of wisdom. Also maybe he's just relieved to be able to finaly take a load off from being the leader of a continuously fighting/loosing army and have fun like he used to
@@emanuelemanuel7038 Well, sure, but he wouldn't literally lose the wisdom from his brain from giving up the Matrix, he'd logically just lose access to the wisdom in future. And while I think there is some merit to the idea of him taking a load off, I still don't think it would cause such an immediate stark change in his personality.
I don't know about that. I think the matrix has permanently altered Rodimus/Hotrod. I mean he takes on some seriously powerful bots as Hotrod after the Matrix and manages to be victorious despite his weaker mode.
I mean in transformers Prime, Optimus loses the collective wisdom of the Primes and completely loses all memory of having ever been one That could’ve been interesting for Rodimus/Hotrod if they’d thought of it back then
Simple, true change vs temporal affect. Nice thought process, sweet editing quality, likes and subbed can’t wait to hear more of your ideas. -untilallareone.
I guess Optimus' body is already suitable for the Matrix, so his body didn't need to go further adjusted with the matrix. He can harness and access the power of Matrix because he's already suitable after being rebuilt by Alpha Trion.
Hot Rod was the “chosen one”. The Autobot that the prophecy spoke of that would “rise from our ranks and light our darkest hour”. Wish we had him in real life.
Optimus Prime himself claims he was not worthy, nor does Ultra Magnus change upon recieving the Matrix. So I also believe Hot Rod changing forms is due to the fact he was the "chosen one"
G1 - As Alpha Trion said he tested a new Combat Upgrade for Industrial Robots, the Autobots to make their power comparable to the Combat Model robots, the Decepticons. Orion was rebuilt into Optimus an optimized combat model, therefore when gifted with the Matrix it did not need to remodel him as it did with Hotrod
The reason prime don’t turn back into Orion pax is because he was damaged by megatron and was found by the prime before him and was repaired and THEN given the matrix of leadership.
When Alphatrion constructed Optimus (as we currently know it) from Orion, this was done in a form that was completely independent of whether or not the matrix was carried. The matrix was only passed to him afterwards. Also, in the Takara series in the lead up to Optimus death, the matrix was given to Rodimus, and yet Optimus was still powerful enough to tackle the decepticons.
Key differences are as follows. Orion Pax was rebuilt to be compatible with the Matrix of Leadership. Hence why he didn't need to be changed by the Matrix. Ultra Magnus wasn't choosen and not worthy of The Matrix. Hence why no effect. Hot Rod was young and worthy of the Matrix and not upgraded to be compatible. Hence why The Matrix changed Hot Rod into Rodimus Prime. The Galvatron Ghost effect was because Galvatron tried to use The Matrix to power his weapon.
@@kmhill9959 Incase you forget Scourge was made from a previous Transformer by Unicron. So Scourge was probably originally compatible with the Matrix but the conversion by Unicron probably caused Scourge to go insane by The Matrix. tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Burden_Hardest_to_Bear Just watch the original movie and then The Burden Hardest to Bear.
Just think it is cool how they did so many different ideas with Pirme and the Matrix. Like the comics having anyone one no matter good or evil be able to tap into it. Since there was no body change in Transformer Prime it was interesting seeing Prime lose his memories and think he was Orion Pax again. The G1 cartoon is my favorite version of them both. With Orion being rebuilt by Alpha Trion and the Matrix passed to him enhancing his strength and such so he will not change back when he is without the Matrix. As for you touching on Ultra Magnus not having the Matrix do anything to him, that might be because of Hot Rod catching the Matrix. Then with the Matrix choosing Hot Rod before he handed it to Ultra Magnus there was no power granted to Ultra Magnus. Then seeing the Decepticons tapping into the Matrix's power with Galvatron getting haunted by ghost of the Autobot leaders. Not to mention the best part of the episode seeing how warped the Matrix made Scourges with his body becoming a twisted hideous melty mutation of his former self corrupted both body and mind. Yea off topic I know but I think the Matrix is one of the most interesting parts of the Transformers mythos.
That explains when Alpha Trion rebuilt Optimus Prime didn't change back to Orion Pax, but Hot Rod was transform by the the matrix and he becomes Rodimus Prime.
I haven’t seen the whole video yet. But my headcanon has always been Orion Pax’s body was permanently rebuilt into Optimus Prime by Alpha Trion which is why he doesn’t revert to Orion Pax, since that physical body (Orion Pax’s body) doesn’t physically exist anymore unlike Hot Rod’s body. Edit: Damn I got super close 🤣🤣
I really never questioned it, since optimus was remade from orion i always thought he wouldn't turn back because it wasn't the matrix that changed him. As for other version of him i just took them as different takes of stories that should be mixed into one another.
That's a good explanation. I remember that episode. And yes, Orion Pax was rebuilt. He was not transformed by the matrix. And it may have made him more powerful, just as it did for Rodimus Prime. He just doesn't look significantly different. And Rodimus was able to defeat Galvatron after only having brief contact with the matrix. He hadn't fully integrated with it yet.
I think alpha trion rebuilt Pax to be fully capable of using the matrix as a leader. The boost the matrix gives him is in his wisdom and knowledge of past leaders rather than a transformative power boost. Prime taps into the Matrix's power as needed. The matrix transforms hot rod into rodimus because hes a base unit transformer and is probably malleable by design still. It doesn't affect Galvatron because he's already a transformed Megatron by Unicron. Unicron probably uses a similar ability to the matrix to upgrade his soldiers. And I think scourge is only a partial upgrade rather than a full overhaul which makes the matrix incompletely transform him and like Hotrod he reverts after its removed. Ultra Magnus is also a reworked transformer upgraded like Prime by Alpha trion. Like Prime he doesn't exactly power up possessing it, and probably also acts as a carrier but never got the chance to tap into it like Prime can. He's just not as good. A great soldier but easily blindsided. But like Prime hes hard to destroy. Probably even harder than prime to destroy. Hence why they can just rebuild him so easily after literally being pulled to pieces by the joints.
Thing is Optimus was rebuilt to hold the matrix, Rodimus was transformed By the matrix. Prime was never transformed by it, he was rebuilt into a Prime without it, to hold it. The others were not Primes to begin with.
I assume a lot of Transformers fans who never watched the G1 cartoon must have requested this. And with all the different Transformers continuity alternate universes there is confusion. Now to discuss Primus, Unicron and the Matrix of leadership as per the G1 Cartoon and 86 movie. As everyone knows the Matrix contains the accumulated Wisdom, Knowledge and Experiences of past leaders including Primus and his nemesis Unicron. I would assume some time in the movie Optimus would be alerted to Unicron, but it was never shown or discussed by Optimus. So after his battle with Megatron that fatally wounded Optimus, he was aware that an Autobot would rise from the ranks and use the Matrix, with the essence of Primus to destroy Unicron in that continuity. Now speculation as per Hot Rod, I would suspect Primus had foreseen that Hot Rod with the Matrix, would turn into Rodimus Prime and use the Matrix to destroy the nemesis of Primus and all the Transformers, Unicron. This assumption comes from the series finale the Rebirth where Vector Sigma is communicating with Optimus about the Plasma Energy Chamber and the next Golden Age of Cybertron. Since Vector Sigma and the Matrix are linked to Primus, thus communicating to Optimus about Unicron in the G1 86 movie would also make sense.
If you're not aware of it, it sounds like you're having audio decompression or rendering issues. Examples are At 2:01, 4:59, 6:02, 7:39, 9:41, & 12:01. I also wish some explanation on the what the "Dead Universe" was as there is no context given. Probably could have brought up the horribly animated "City of Steel" episodes. This is where Prime was cut up and his body, presumably with the Matrix undamaged, into an Alligatorcon. Also wish we could read the Marvel UK comics here in the US. Even if not officially if anyone has an idea where to read them all, since a small portion were made available by IDW. One of these days I'll read the IDW storyline comics (I got out when they made a storyline with a Zombie Transformer) and sucks I missed that Humble Bundle offering earlier this year. Other than that, great video, although I was confused why anyone would think this about Optimus Prime/Orion Pax. I can understand not everyone remembering War Dawn, despite it being a great episode, and sets up the "Transwarp/Chronosphere" technology within the Beast Wars golden disc/story line. His death should have been proof enough in the Movie, but true that Ultra Magnus not changing as well. Again, the movie does explain and show "an Autobot will rise above our ranks," and thus Rodimus Prime considered himself "The Chosen One," as you described. Fun Fact: Per Flint Dilie, there was also a Transformers the Movie script that had the storyline of returning to Cybertron, to insert the Matrix into the very core of the planet. This would have activated the planet into a giant robot to fight Unicron. Unknown if the robot was named Primus, as Simon Furman in the G1 comics had not created that character as of yet. Keep up the great work! =P
I seem to be having issues with Corel Video Studio and I probably need to double check if the drivers are up to date. I heard about Flint Dille's idea before and it goes to show you that a creative mind can go beyond our wildest imagination!
@@RodimusPrimal 100% Agreed, man! I wonder if they just would have called him "Cybertron" instead of anything else. Come to think of it, if Unicron was originally going to be called "Ingestor," then perhaps the Cybertron transformer would have been called "Unicron" as a play on uniting the Autobots and Decepticons against "Ingestor?" I feel like there's another parallel universe we could "slide" into that made that movie, haha. =P
Love the video, but you really have two questions here, not one. The first question is why the G1 Optimus Prime never reverted back to Orion Pax without the Matrix. The answer is simple, Orion Pax was NOT upgraded by the Matrix into Optimus Prime, but was instead rebuilt by Alpha Trion into Optimus Prime. He was the most advanced and powerful warrior of his day, qualities which were only enhanced by the Matrix. This is in contrast to Hot Rod who was upgraded by the Matrix into Rodimus Prime. However, by bringing in the other continuities, you have unearthed a second question. Is there a continuity or universe in which Optimus Prime CAN revert to his former Orion Pax self? The answer is none that we know of...yet. Of course, that is just my take. Love to hear your thoughts, and thanks for another awesome video.
There isn't a continuity in which Optimus downgrades to Orion Pax, but IDW and Prime really didn't have much change to Orion Pax physically, so without the Matrix he doesn't change appearance. The only time Optimus can revert is the POTP toy.
Coulda sworn the answer to this question was obvious, no he doesn't. Whereas Optimus Prime was rebuilt by Alpha Trion, Rodimus was reformatted by the matrix.
I agree. Ive tried explaining this to fans multiple times and get asked about it a LOT. It is a simple answer but I needed to iron out all of the counter arguments as to why, which included other continuities.
Orion Pax eventually became a merchant, who we know today as Amazon Prime.

Nice analogy and very appropiate.
Optimus Prime still should have been upgraded again after the matrix was added?
Look at Scourge a person could say, he was Thundercracker, then Scourge (Unicron reformation), then deformed powerful Scourge (Matrix).
Optimus should have been Orion Pax -> Optimus Prime (Alpha Trion upgrade of op) -> OP Optimus Prime (Alpha Trion upgrade + Matrix)
Edit: One off topic question, why was Alpha Trion in the matrix, and he was also in Vector Sigma?
If hasbo does a Optimus prime solo movie they can use the story in the episode war Dawn to tell his origin story.
They ABSOLUTELY should. To me it is the best version of his origin to date.
@@RodimusPrimal G1 cartoon/comic always had the best origin stories. All the follow-ups keep trying to fix what was never broken.
Include him randomly flying too
That would make an interesting movie
Exactly
"Gave the matrix back to a quintesson controlled zombie Optimus Prime" ...... Thank you for that mind blowingly accurate, but completely insane sounding sentence.
6:00 no wonder Optimus wears his mouth guard...... look at those LIPS lol
@Santiago Trujillo there literally the same person tho so....
@Santiago Trujillo They ARE, dumbass.Think before you open your dumb mouth
@Santiago Trujillo watch the video before commenting
or better yet, watch war dawn
@Santiago Trujillo you're wrong. Watching the video first always helps..
@Santiago Trujillo he survived he just took a hit so they repaired him and rebuilt him so he can be in war shape.
I always liked the way transformers can go from sci-fi to sci-fantasy seamlessly. It gives the whole thing more gravitas. Thanks for going over this!
because alpha trion made him a new body.
Exactly it's really a no Brainer
Just realized that was about to type it then checked comments
Because the average kid wouldn't want the Orion Pax toy.
Agree!!!! Lol
Heeyee 😂
He's clapped tho
Yes i dont
Technically if a kid has an Optimus Prime toy then they would have Orion Pax lol
Only Hot Rod "powers up" because... he's the Chosen One! ^_^
It was a complete remodel when Alpha Trion worked on him in episode War Dawn. So no, he cannot revert back to Orion Pax. Same way Elita 1 cannot revert back to Ariel.
Did you guys ever find it a bit "adult" when Alpha Trion said only Optimus Prime could properly interface with Elita 1? Hey-yo!
@@marvnuts Yeah only he knows what *kinks* she has in her workings
As for the G1 version, I think that only the "chosen" ones that can access the Matrix get a physical upgrade when they have possession of it. That would be why Ultra Magnus doesn't change when he has it.
I believe that the Matrix only upgrades those who "need" to be upgraded. Hot Rod was basically a kid, not much older than Daniel (relatively speaking) and so Obviously a Teenager Can NOT lead the Autobots, therefore the matrix "Matured" him into an "older version" of himself. Just one opinion, but not unlikely.
Ur picture is so cute did u make that DANIS FUNNY???
Yeah ultra magnus unequivocally sucks
Dion, A.K.A. Ultra Magnus was rebuilt by Alpha Trion along with another dead Autobot that was turned into armor. He does not change for the same reason Prime doesn't. And Magnus has already beaten all of the Decepticon Combiner teams by himself.
I knew the answer was "because Alpha Trion physically rebuilt him into his current form while Hot Rod was transformed by the Matrix" when I saw the title. Still a great presentation, tho! 👍
Thanks. I had to explain this A LOT in the comments even though the answer was straightforward. That's why I made the video.
I think it doesn't effect Prime's body because Alpha Trion actually rebuilt his body. So it doesn't down grade him to Orion Pax's body because Orion's body is no more. It's only Prime's body now.
You're spot on.
Optimus was rebuilt prior to receiving the matrix so he can't revert back.
Till all are one you legend!
IF Orion Pax was upgraded by the Matrix, I wonder how he'd look. He might look COMPLETELY different to Optimus Prime. I'd love to see a Transformers series or comic where this happens.
TRITON K175 IDW kinda did this. There’s a point where Optimus adopts a look that’s between G1 Cartoon Pax and G1 Prime.
Alfa trion rebuilt Optimus Prime and
IDW kinda did this BUT there should be said that IDW Orion Pax was a Police Officer who already was built to fight so he did not look all that diffrent once he got the Matrix.
Keep in mind that Optimus had the Matrex for literally millions of years, compare to the few months that Rodimus did, likely making the changes permanent. Also, Prime candidacy is probably a rare trait.
A J Rodinsky he was rebuilt before getting the matrix to
If I hearing right, the transform civil war had been going on for nearly 5 million years ever befor the first episode, that's one hell of a long war.
This has a different effect on different Autobots, hence Optimus and most others gain charisma and leadership, but Rodimus gains severe Self-esteem issues.
actually, when Scourge took the Matrix from Rodimus, he got "edited". Not upgraded, but he became bigger and deformed
I got three words for you.... that's just prime
"One day an Autobot shall rise from our ranks, and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour"
It could also be argued by another line of dialogue just before that.
In my opinion Silverbolt would've been a good leader to. Since he has shown worthy leadership skills.
@@jakelam6647 pretty sure that was more for unicron being it was the one thing that could destroy him
I still feel like becoming a Prime should be a permanent upgrade, with or without the matrix. Just like how a computer gets a download from a disk.
On the flip side, back before hard drives were common (which was around the time the G1 Transformers cartoon was airing, by the way), floppy disks were the primary storage medium. So, depending on what disk the computer was booted with, it could have a large number of different "forms" that were hardly permanent.
7:32
Megatron: You! Who are you?!
Optimus prime: You're worst nightmare!
Here I am wasting time on message boards when there's a new Rodimus Primal video up!
I always found validation regarding my headcanon for Dion-Ultra Magnus by the fact that he and Optimus Prime have the same design for the Matrix Compartment created by Alpha Trion.
And it would make sense as to why wielding it didn’t change him, as his body was also rebuilt.
He is a unique case.
that actually makes sense.
and if you look there isn't a big change between Hot Rod and Rodimus outside of their alt forms, which I'm guessing was reformatted to accommodate the trailer which might be something all primes get, and when a prime transforms the Trailer is actually hiding in the matrix
Hot Rod is the true Prime, the chosen one, only he is transformed by the Matrix. (Transformers 1984 G1 cartoon series)
Sara Cathcart Hot Rod was a mistake
Hot Rod and Optimus Prime show the diference between a Chosen One and a Hero. The Chosen One is chosen to fight evil regardless of what he wants, he is dragged into the main events and ends winning because destiny or whatever power in charges decided it. Ther Hero chooses to fight evil by his own volition, his victory is not guaranteed and he may die without achieving his mission but he still goes.
@@REPVILE Should've been Bumblebee
So much lore for robot cars! This has got me into transformers again
Great video!!!! Question I’ve always thought of but never asked and accepted it. Haha
Based on this video and like your Bumblebee voice video;
a perfect topic for a discussion video could be whether or not Optimus and Megatron should be former friends.
He was a librarian
Well, a Record's Clerk, or a Bookie
But he had the most terrifyingly mundane job, and was drafted into curbstomping Decepicons
No, not drafted
Volunteered
In the original g1 of war Dawn he was a dock worker and in Transformers Prime he was a librarian
I had the encyclopedia
But since they're machines and don't age, rest, or even have to eat, it's not unlikely they had multiple jobs
After rewatching this video, I still agreed on my original response that Optimus Prime cannot revert back to Orion Pax because he was rebuild!!!
3:20 Beware my pink nails! LOL
😂😂
Now he says bow down to scourge
Awesome breakdown! Love the G1 transformer grid background too! More than meets the eye!
Great vid. Those comics look dope, BTW.
I personally would love if a later series would revisit Thunderwing as a concept.
I always thought with Optimus his body was built exclusively for the Matrix and like you said the matrix makes him a little stronger and to gain the wisdom or knowledge of the matrix.
Awesome Discussion Rodimus! This is something I'm gonna need to study more myself before I ever give my own prediction.
I mean in transformers Prime, Optimus loses the collective wisdom of the Primes and completely loses all memory of having ever been one
That could’ve been interesting for Rodimus/Hotrod if they’d thought of it back then
well orion pax died and was remade into optimus prime, so technically optimus's form is his original form
Simple, true change vs temporal affect. Nice thought process, sweet editing quality, likes and subbed can’t wait to hear more of your ideas. -untilallareone.
This is a nice analysis man!
I guess Optimus' body is already suitable for the Matrix, so his body didn't need to go further adjusted with the matrix. He can harness and access the power of Matrix because he's already suitable after being rebuilt by Alpha Trion.
He was rebuilt as Optimus Prime that is why he can’t revert back to Orion Pax.
Optimus has the power of smooth talking!
I think Optimus Prime has been exposed for so long to the Matrix, he's stuck as Optimus Prime; he's like an uber charged cell phone
I believe you have it nailed down solidly. It's a new body, before, getting the MATRIX..and so the only thing that changes, is his power levels.
The reason prime don’t turn back into Orion pax is because he was damaged by megatron and was found by the prime before him and was repaired and THEN given the matrix of leadership.
Makes sense to me. Thanks and great channel!
Bro it's like 2 in the morning and I'm watching Transformer facts
Makes sense.... but what about Scourge? Why did he morph?
@@kmhill9959 Incase you forget Scourge was made from a previous Transformer by Unicron.
So Scourge was probably originally compatible with the Matrix but the conversion by Unicron probably caused Scourge to go insane by The Matrix.

Thank You for calling Billy Batson by his original hero name, Captain Marvel. I really appreciate hearing that from someone else aside from myself. 👍
Despite that being true i prefer him being SHAZAM than captain marvel because marvel now has that right but yes that is a fine detail
Whoever optimus was before doesn't exist anymore....... There is just optimus now
That's a good explanation.
When Orion Pax was injured by Megatron, he was rebuilt into Optimus Prime by Alpha Trion. It did not involve the Matrix.
Sir thank you for explaining that too the people I tried to tell people that a long time ago ! 😎
1:30 this animation of ultra Magnus putting this matrix in his chest has driven me insane since childhood. Why the hell does he put it in twice 😂😂
Maybe something felt odd so he did that
@ it just looks so bizarre
Thing is Optimus was rebuilt to hold the matrix, Rodimus was transformed By the matrix. Prime was never transformed by it, he was rebuilt into a Prime without it, to hold it. The others were not Primes to begin with.
Great video.Thanks for posting! Subscribed
Thanks!
Was Vector Sigma one of the original 13 primes?
The effect on Scourge was much more interesting in its implications.
The matrix gave hot rod his Rodimus Prime body. Orion Pax was already built into Optimus Prime then given the matrix.
Awesome video!!!👍
Well obviously he can’t be Orion pax again because he was rebuilt
Make an Optimus retrospective already!!!!
I agree alpha tron rebuild orion pax into optimus prime then put the matrix inside him.
i now know more than i ever wanted to know about optimus prime thank you
If you're not aware of it, it sounds like you're having audio decompression or rendering issues.
I laughed multiple times hearing that
Orion Pax received the matrix over 9 million years ago. Spending so much time with the matrix changed his personality as well.
Another great video, Rodimus. It's unfortunate we have to even acknowledge the Bayformer versions at all.
Everyone: why did Optimus not change back into Orion pax
Me: Orion was built into Optimus by Alpha Trion before he had the matrix!

Lol, took you a long time to reach such a simple explanation :) but very nice bit of history!
