For the sake of a solid G1 continuity, I have always believed Ginrai to be Optimus. Purist would disagree, but it is an exciting idea to prolong Prime's saga in the most interesting & bizzare way.
So you're telling us that the consciousness of a transforming sentient machine being only took up 1.44 mb's of storage space? Thats kind of hard to believe.
Thank you for acknowledging the forgotten G1 "season five". Even though the episodes were reruns, we got to hear Peter Cullen deliver new Optimus Prime lines. Always a plus in my book!
@@RodimusPrimal Thank you!! Rebirth introduced the Target & Head Masters. They could have continued the series from there, along with bringing in the Power Masters and the Pretenders. If the Japanese could have continued it, so could Hasbro & Sunbow. Marvel even continued the story in comics.
The setting is the fusion of Ginrai and Optimus Prime transector makes an unexpected miracle, which produces a Godmaster with much more power than expected. And that might be true, as Super Ginrai can rival combiner already, and God Ginrai even defeats Overlord, which proves he has power over most of the combiners. So, I would say God Ginrai is an even more upgraded version of Powermaster Optimus Prime.

Personally I like both. It’s interesting to see practically the same character handled differently with their own spin. Plus no matter which continuity you go with, he sure looks cool as heck
Star saber the best autobot in the universe could be combiners solo. But man once you put optimus prime with him and made victory saber. It was magical. Notice the profile pic...
He inspired Wing Saber from Energon but he looked different in the sequel show, which was my first transformers tv show as well as my favorite transformers tv show and it was called Cybertron.
Megatron: Ah I wouldn't wait an eternity for this it's over prime Optimus prime: Well I don't think so (whole piece of Metal coming to Optimus Prime) (Combine) Megatron: What the Optimus prime: Megatron be gone (Shoot) Megatron: Oh cra- (boom) 😲
It’s explained that the armor works as part of their bodies/their mind goes into the robot which is probably why they can’t feel the pain. US Headmasters are really stupid, Japan handled it better with them being the same guy
As I understood it, its not really their legs anymore, they have been made into cyborgs and their original legs are gone. Of course, amputation is bit too much for childrens show and in the comics they could take it off like a suit just to, "no-no, their legs have certainly not been sawed off, see, its just a suit, see? No cutting and removal of limbs here, no sirree!"
@@ribbitgoesthedoglastnamehe4681 geeeez, i never took time to read up on what that was all about as i kind of lost interest in following the stories after high school times, and getting into other genres and more serious Animes. That was around the time Toonami came out and we had G4 gaming tvchannel and they played a lot of anime stuff for awhile. The Headmasters thing gets pretty dark it seems. Lol i didnt know it was so creepy. I just always thought it just another cutesy gimmick to sell new and more toys.
@@d.aardent9382 It IS a gimmick to sell toys. :-) But consider this: a Headmaster is a dead Transformer, a fully functioning mechanical robot with memory and personality stored in its datacore, but no Spark. No soul, no motivation. Fully functional but braindead corpse. No repair can put it back. Its still strong beyond human comprehension, with targeting and combat reactions honed for thousand years, and knowledge and information, but without life it will just stand there and rust. Add a human brain and you have a fully functioning robo-frankenstein. Of course you cant pilot it with a joystick, or access the memories. You need direct interface, so you need a datajack in your skull. You cant have a cockpit, so you just have to fit there somewhere, as well as be capable of leaving. You need some bending, so the legs at least have to go. And you need some lifesupport systems to survive outer space and what without extra suits. So a lot of the squishy bits need to be... upgraded at least. Of course you have be able to survive more than just space. Punches, even direct shots have to be resisted to a large degree, thats why your brain goes into the safety of the torso. The rest is.. largely metal. How you are situated is not a big thing. Artificial bloodpressure, no limbs to develop clots in veins, you only breath for psychological reasons. Your consciousness is the robot, so how your brain is situated does not matter. You might still have skin, like Terminator. But you are way more robot than human. Its not necessarily horrible. Theres no discomfort, you get to be a giant robot and see space. You can have relatives and since the lusty bits are... gelded, there are much less needs for things you cant have anymore. Its possible you will live an unnaturalky short life, as you are an active combatant, but you might live very long too with no weak human hearts failing or so. Its dark horror, or not, depending on how you look at it. In some situations, I would do it gladly. Adventure, chance to help my people, the companionship of warriors, and never ever having back or joint pains. Its not a bad deal. And yes, these were things I already thought as a kid. Also, how MASK HQ could be destroyed easy from the top of the cliff, or what kind of algorithm could choose the best pilots for the job without actual precognition. Or how Knight Rider had bullet proof paint, but the windows were not painted. Or how would Streethawk handle tyre friction at turns at 200mph, or what would be the effects of changes in pilot center of gravity changing, or trying to remotely control a "urban attack motorcycle" with modem speeds taking minutes to transfer a single picture to the central computer, or sudden loss of connection in a tunnel going 300mph in a wrong lane. I was a weird kid. :-D
BRO I WAS JUST THINKING THAT: ULTRA MAGNUS : DID U GET YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED ??? OPTIMUS PRIME: YES AND EVERY ANSWER LEAD TO A BIGGER QUESTION !!! AWESOME VIDEO PRIMAL 💯💯💯💯
I never really thought of it as a one or another situation. I try to reconcile the Japanese G1 continuity with the American continuity as best I can in the same way Beast Wars did the cartoon and comic book continuity. Ginrai certainly existed in the same way as Metalhawk and Star Saber, active as commanders of the Autobot forces on Earth while the bulk of the war had moved back into space. Ginrai had become a fully sentient Transformer and been separated from his human pilot and had eventually been destroyed and rebuilt into Victory Leo. But with all the Optimus Prime toys that the Prime Wars Trilogy have us, I've occasionally toyed with the idea of taking one and making it Ginrai, perhaps rebuilt as a combiner, or with the human Ginrai returning as a Headmaster partner. But I've never gone thru with it. But with every new Optimus becoming my default, well, the old Optimus Primes are getting quite numerous. Lol.
I loved both they have been at the top of my list behind Fortress Maximus. I had the toy for Powermaster Prime and went by the comic book and commercials during that time as far as this version of Prime. When I first heard of the continuation they did in Japan I still called him Powermaster Prime just because I didn't know or see the Goldbomber deal with the toy and series. It wasn't until my interest peaked and I looked up the info on the Japanese continuations, through Zone, that I fully understood how different they are. Ever since I have considered them by their respective character names. It is good they gave Ginrai a little bit of a tweak on his features to make him a little different than Prime, even if it was meant to be an upgrade for Prime. To me it is great we got both one from the comeback in the comic book with Powermaster Optimus Prime. The other I like how they did it in Masterforce being a upgrade for Prime but found by Ginrai since he did die the second time in Headmasters. It was just cool to me to see another leader, even if the look was "Prime", instead of just bringing Optimus back again in Masterforce. With the other series, like Bumblebee losing his voice and the Megatron/Galvatron routine (especially when it was just a color change ugh) , Prime dying and coming back has gotten stale with me.
Powermaster Optimus: Agh! Here we go again, I'm dead once more! Ginrai: Am I joke to you? Your Transtector still alive with me. Thanks to Takara, I'm still fine. Powermaster Optimus: Why? Ginrai: I'm a Japanese truck deliverer, Convoy-san! Chromedome (The Headmasters): Yeah! Star Saber: Indeed too.
As a kid I always wondered why we didn’t get more G1 transformers. No clue that the different versions from each country would take a divergent path. I love the G1 continuity and which is also why I loved Beast Wars so much. As a Star Trek fan I live continuity in all my geek shows lol. What I can’t get over is the use of the word god in Japan: it’s like God Gundam in Japan being Burning Gundam in the US. Sometimes I think we’re more imaginative here. Sometimes lol.
in order to justify having a version of pm optimus prime in my CHUG collection, I prefer him as Genrai. but I generally only keep one version of a given character.
RodimusPrimal, but it’s better then power master optimus in the titans return version The hasbro mold was way more hollow and looks cheaper while god ginrai filled in the hollow arms and made it look much prettier

Great job on this video, but holy cow is my head spinning! I will just stick with my G1 continuity, and call it a day. That’s all I really care about. It is interesting to see other versions from around the world. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
I grow up with the G1 show and then came the Power masters series, in the Spanish Latin American version God Ginrai was also named Optimus XD, so I assume it was him all along until the internet came. I personally love God Ginrai design, love that his legacy influence some of the upgrade designs of Optimus in several series even the Bay films, I would love to see the Godbomber in a modern cartoon as an upgrade for Optimus, I love the white and dark blue theme and the chest design was so cool and still is, I will love to see a show that re capture that for Optimus.
I agree with the design being cool. I prefer it to being an upgrade for Optimus Prime than a separate character, but I'm okay with it in Japanese continuity.
In Italy until the 90s they had changed the name of Optimus Prime to "Commander" (not "Commander Convoy" just "Commander", Rodimus Prime was renamed "Captain") and when they brought the Super God Masterforce anime they of course renamed Ginrai "Commander" as well, probably because the toy had already come out with the name Commander on the box by the time they dubbed the anime.
As much as I enjoyed the Rebirth finale as it ended with world peace it did leave me wanting to see more. Which is why I kinda like that the Takara G1 continuity had the headmasters as smaller cybertronians rather than organic beings picturing humanoids in exosuits that transform into weapons* the Takara continuity started to get pretty wild and I would have preferred Hasbro been more involved with giving us outside Japan a full length season 4 plus subsequent seasons. I remember reading about the Japanese G1 continuity on Wikipedia many years ago (well before TH-cam was big) and after headmasters it was hard to follow as there were all these new characters with radically different naming styles and stories took on a much different tone from what had been established in the Hasbro continuity. That said there is a lot to like about the Takara G1 continuity and I've seen some fan dubs that use music from the Hasbro series that are amazing and manage to feel like proper G1 episodes that are completely new to me. It was awesome * picturing humanoids in exosuits that transform into weapons is kinda horrific when you think of the way their bodies would have to contort if it weren't for convenient mass shifting that appears to shrink the humanoid inside to be able to be comfortably seated in a cockpit. Well unless we are to believe that the exosuit has remarkably intricate transformation mechanisms that allow it to expand around the humanoid inside it and form panels of a head and a cockpit inside for the organic being inside. It requires a greater suspension of disbelief from me than the Japanese version which side steps that entirely.
Idea. A modern continuation of Generation 1 that includes Power Master Optimus Prime, The Fallen, Micromasters, and a lot more autobots and decepticons dying. Maybe Optimus and Megatron (Galvatron) have one more final battle.
@@rickyrackey7930 I’m totally on board with all of that except for the fallen. I wouldn’t want anything from the Michael bay movies in a G1 continuation. Not the fallen or the all-spark. Heck I only watched the cartoon growing up therefore the comics were very alien to me. So if I was helming such a project I’d reject concepts from the comics that contradict lore from the cartoon such as primus.
it'd be cool to see Ginri and Prime being separate characters who work as alleys. in the Transformers animated movie the Autobots had a human alley who wore a transforming battle suit that he passed onto his son to defeat unicron.
Thanks for all this lore dump. I never watched the japanese stuff but admired the different path the stories took. The problem with japan taking over story is it kind of feels like a generic robot show in japan of which there are many so none of what goes on in their version actually sticks out. In american story telling you can have characters joke, talk about mature topics and act like real people you know or met in real life and that is the element that was missing from the Bay formers movies which are presented as popcorn action flicks. I hope they combine the big blockbuster action scenes of the baymovies with more Transformers Bumblebee type character building in future live action movies. (just don't let Michael bay touch any of the close up action scenes or nobody will be able to tell what the hell is going on in a scene) When characters die or almost get taken out, you should feel an emotional connection because of the investment to build up the characters right? You don't get that from generic action movie or japanese cartoon where its just to sell you new version of an old toy. That is common in robot shows to expect the main character to die about halfway through the season just so they can come back with a new form and get kids buying the upgraded character. And when you make thing formulaic enough time it becomes boring. American comics don't do that too much. For example Iron Man like Batman has lots of different suits, but does ironman not hold all the same personality when out of the suit walking about as a civilian and not saving the world? Of course he does. So we care if he dies in a battle because the character is built up in the story. You should feel something if characters do things that alter the story in major ways. That is why people like the american values and morals and principles of the US toon more. It's less generic robot show and actually feels like people doing heroic things for each other not just punching kicking and killing bad guy only. It's possible to have both but a cartoon needs to give us a reason to care about each character not just be and ad for the next toy. Optimus dying affected us because he was leader of the autobots and that made kids miss him. When Jazz died in the first Bayformers live action movie, did you hear about people getting angry? Nope. Because they didn't flesh out each person as unique characters with personalities. He's like a generic soldier in the background of a war movie.
Fun Fact: Star Convoy came with a Micromaster version of Hot Rod and a new version of Roller (named Micro Carrier) that combined with Star Convoy to complete his vehicle and base modes.
the headmasters and target masters always freaked me out. Its like their bodies were always being discombobulated and placed in the most tortuous positions. BUT still kept alive. how horrific.
@@basedpota Why ? It's cool . It was so strange when they killed him after reviving . So fast and so stupid . Because of that (for me ) headmasters (and sequels ) are not canon . And they also contradict beast wars .
@@basedpota You right about that . I think that killing him just was a bad idea . It was obviously a way to clean the shelves from old toys . But more stupid is to kill him again . (From what i read ) he was revived again . And killed off again . And revived again . It was in the manga. And his reviving (in the return of Optimus Prime ) was stupid . He was just re-assembled. Which is makes death not so scary to transformers . What prevented them from just "fixing" the rest of the dead Autobots ? Great idea , you can repaint them and sell them again .
I loved the comics I used to have all of them from the original series. The fact that the story was different is why I liked reading them, it was like an alternate universe from the tv show
Powermaster Optimus holds a special place in my heart. First time I saw Super God Masterforce was in 1996. While in college I hung out in an anime club and two of the people in the club I became friends with two of the guys in the club, Anthony and Jaimy. Jaimy lived in Japan in the early 80's. He went to college in Charleston because his dad was stationed at the AFB in N. Charleston. Since he knew eventually he would have to move back to the States he recorded loads of anime and tokahatsu on VHS of course. We saw lots of anime never seen in the States or at Blockbuster, who in the 90s had that "Japanamation" section. We used to brag about how much we knew about Transformers and one day Jaimy said "I got something to show you"...I'm like "huh"? Well he brought a box of tapes to Anthony's dorm and Jaimy said to him, "Should we show them?", Anthony was like, "I dunno, they will have questions", so we were like yeah we cool we can handle it. Thinking it as hentai it was not what we thought it was Optimus Prime -- so it seemed. We were like "oh shit?!?", thats Powermaster Prime, then they pause the tape and Jaimy says, "thats not Prime", and we were like "yes that is". Then he proceded to show us the rest and we saw he combined with another trailer and that's when we were like OMG what the hell just happened...mind blown, mouths open, eyes wide, me and my other friend kept pointing at the screen. After that Jaimy exclaimed, "this is God Ginrai and not Prime because Prime is officially dead." After that me and my friend Ricardo began our journey into acquiring as much info, episodes, and toys we could find thru eBay and stumbled on proxy sites back in the late 90's. We had shown people scores of episodes we got once Ricardo had joined the Air Force in 1997. He would send back tapes and toys he got from the flea market in Jacksonville Fl. We also leared about GoBots and it's Japanese counter part, Machine Robo Revenge of Chronos. I have crazy knowledge on Japanese Transformers and Gobots. Hit me up anytime.
Same. I think the exact same time period way back when it was VHS OR going on iaconhub and finding episodes and info over T1 lines. Transformers is one of those franchises or just things that had a wealth of info on the internet for the time so it was kind of easy if you put in the work. Same went for other 80s properties: MotU, Voltron, Dragon Ball (yes this is 80s/90s), etc.
As someone who only followed TF through the G1 cartoon and didnt read any of the comics, and just came back to the franchise (outside of the movies) for a little over 2 years, the whole OP/Ginrai thing did confuse me. I didnt know Japan continued the G1 series past (or ignoring) the Rebirth and doing their own thing, so to the casual fan, you see a robot that looks exactly like OP, you call him OP. To fans in North America we were used to the cartoon telling/explaining changes, so when Powermaster OP came out without explanation (outside of the Marvel comics) you see this cool new OP toy but really dont think about the hows and whys. And even the comics didnt really tell the one "true" version, since we have the Japanese continuity. If in the japanese continuity the intent was to have OP continue but then thought against it, a simple color change (grey or blue cab instead or red) couldve helped with the distinction since we were already "trained" to distinguish when characters look alike (the seekers, the datsuns, etc).
well, as far as continuity goes, the Headmasters anime is a direct continuation of the US G1 season 3 cartoon. Super God MasterForce, while having some ties to the original G1 cartoon/Headmasters, really sort of went its own way. It honestly can stand on its own as a series. One thing not mentioned in the video is that the main villain of Masterforce (Devil Z) actually stole the lifeless Transtectors that are used by the Autobots and Decepticons in the series, but somewhere along the way before the series started, he apparently lost the Autobot bodies. The Ginrai Transtector was apparently intended as a new body for Convoy/Optimus Prime, possibly to try and revive him after he died again in Headmasters, but it ended up on Earth, and used by a human "pilot" through the Godmaster process, which is more or less like a HeadMaster, but instead of the head, he transforms into an engine.
I watch this video at least once a day. Definitely you are the Authority when it comes to Transformers history, mythology and autobiography of these characters. Absolutely great video! Thank you for these wonderful uploads. 💯♥️🙏
Great video. I have the TRU PM Optimus Prime reissue from 2003 and Takara's Legends LG-EX God Ginrai set and they are both great figures. I also bought all of the Perfect Effect upgrade kits for the Takara figure, which gave Ginrai a transformable truck cab and Godmaster engine and a bunch of other upgrades. I did get PM Optimus back in 1988 but it broke, which is why I have the reissue instead.
Masterforce was my first Transformers series. They had it at the local DVD store. Although, the funny thing is it switched to dub in the last disc which was quite jarring.
God bomer being an upgraded roller. I like roller and him not getting ressuected with optimus prime made me a little sad. A viedo on how alive roller is might be intresting. While all the toy bios describe him as a mindless drone but the cartoon implies he has some intellgence and idpendence.

Prefer the American version. The Japanese continuation of the series got extremely confusing. Wish season 4 would've happened with the way The Rebirth ended.
I own the Australiasian headmasters release that includes the horrendous dub and a piece of paper that apologizes for its inclusion saying it was for its comedic value.
Thanks! I like the idea that Ginrai is Optimus Prime's second Powermaster partner, but I accept the Japanese series as its own thing and both are enjoyable.
Transformers The Movie was a box office failure!? I didn’t know that. I saw it in a theatre as a kid with my cousin and brother when it first came out and we cried when Prime died. Still our favorite movie ever.
It's still mine too and I saw it in theaters as well. But financially it did not make back its budget, which contributed to Hasbro pulling all cartoon shows from Sunbow.
RodimusPrimal Fuck! I didn’t know it was ended because the movie flopped in sales! Transformers was my top hobby and I was left a little lost and confused when production was stopped. I thought that Megatron’s influence on gang culture was the reason for the series being pulled. I don’t think New York ever got to see the gun version of Megs on tv again after that.
I've always loved the Toei animation, but it stopped with Victory for me, as the bots were lifeless shells. Thanks for clearifying the nonsensical Japanese lore though.
Thanks for this video. I'm going to order the LGEX god Ginrai set. I'm on the beginnings of making a Transformers story, using the figures i have (just for fun), and this helps me out a lot.
They kinda are the same thing. In masterforce they separated him by making him run by human. But by time victory came out they were basically the same. And after remade to victory leo, they made victory saber.
This was very fun to watch, I've never seen the japanese version of the original transformers so this was interesting to find out so much about Optimus Prime & his background. I can't wait for more retrospectives especially on the Boss Monkey when that happens. I've only followed Optimus Prime & the US transformer storyline.

In Transformers Robot in Disguise 2001 when Optimus Prime and his brother Ultra Magnus combine as Omega Prime their combine mod look like little a bit of a apex armor and in Transformers Cyberverse power of the AllSpark senson 2 he use a jet as his Spark armor it kind of like his apex armor and a bit of his movie version of Transformers Dark of the Moon. So that why you didn't put Omega Prime in your video because he doesn't count as God Ginral and Apex armor too.
Thank you, happy Birthday and have a great day. I like the American Continuity, believing that Optimus may have been set up by The Quintesson as a Powermaster. Maybe the Quintisson set it up so Optimus couldn't use Energon correctly and a quick operation with Perceptor and the gang with a nick of time ending have Optimus the full upgrade and PowerMaster armor. (Maybe merging something like the Nebulan origin with the Transector with Perceptor having an upgrade ready for Prime hidden on Earth as a regular truck for just such an event.

One minute, he’s a Cybertronian leader with an adopted human son, and the next minute, he’s Optimus’ sword that gets shattered in half
I always thought he was just the sword, never saw the other versions
Star saber the best autobot in the universe could be combiners solo. But man once you put optimus prime with him and made victory saber. It was magical. Notice the profile pic...
He inspired Wing Saber from Energon but he looked different in the sequel show, which was my first transformers tv show as well as my favorite transformers tv show and it was called Cybertron.
Megatron: Ah I wouldn't wait an eternity for this it's over prime
Optimus prime: Well I don't think so (whole piece of Metal coming to Optimus Prime) (Combine)
Megatron: What the
Optimus prime: Megatron be gone (Shoot)
Megatron: Oh cra- (boom) 😲
Optimus Prime: *_NEVER!!!_* (knocking Megatron out of Autobot City)
Sounds like the scene from Transformers Prime when Optimus changed back from his Orion Pax state.
How aren't these humans dieing cuz my legs cant even bend that way 😂
That's one reason why head/target/power/Godmasters is a 💩tty ideal.💯
But consider this: a Headmaster is a dead Transformer, a fully functioning mechanical robot with memory and personality stored in its datacore, but no Spark.
"Well I think it's fate we met Optimus Prime."

Watch out, kid! That's not the real Optimus! Look at those red hands!!
So that's where his jetwings came from! I had no idea!
Lol.
Star Convoy
Because Roller actually had a character developement and Optimus got to live through that version of the show till the end :(
I loved both they have been at the top of my list behind Fortress Maximus.
I think I might have an idea.

It was awesome
* picturing humanoids in exosuits that transform into weapons is kinda horrific when you think of the way their bodies would have to contort if it weren't for convenient mass shifting that appears to shrink the humanoid inside to be able to be comfortably seated in a cockpit.
@@unstoppableExodia Oh and Dion became a Decepticon
it'd be cool to see Ginri and Prime being separate characters who work as alleys. in the Transformers animated movie the Autobots had a human alley who wore a transforming battle suit that he passed onto his son to defeat unicron.
"Even if you destroy me Megatron--others will rise to defeat your tyranny!"
And lo and behold, Optimus was right or just self aware at this point.
Deluded Dimdoul i'm going with both
"Then I'll just have to destroy you all!"

Fantastic history! Very interesting. Love how you bring in the comics, commercials and even fan/con toys and comics for a complete history.
This turned from transformers to Voltron extremely quickly

Early Season 2 episode, City of Steel is what you're thinking of. The subject of this video came later.
My favourite Prime death is easily his sacrifice at the end of Predacons Rising, BECAUSE IT WAS ACTUALLY FOR A GOOD REASON!!!
You mean sacrifice...and I never thought of it that way
And that death was wasted when he returned in the next series.
What? Volunteering to die and give Megatron what he wanted because he won a simulated VR battle against a cheating Megatron by collapsing a building on him that had some innocent NPC's in it is not a good reason?
I'm not sacrifice I'm just going to fix Cybertron's core ok
The one where he kills himself because of some NPCs' deaths in a game was the WORST. (Come, on, Prime. Lighten up!)
For me, G1 transformer ends before Power Masters and PM Optimus Prime/God Ginrai
The worst thing about Optimus Prime dieing was Rodimus Prime.
His fault too.
The first time anyways.
Hi don't know that many content from the TF universe and you fix that so lovely. Thanks
Now, I'll readily admit that Optimus isn't my favorite character, but I recognize his importance to the franchise. It's hard to imagine any iteration of Transformers without him, no matter the name he goes by.
Who is your favorite?
@@vikingfromnorth45 Autobots: Moonracer, Blaster, Grimlock and Technobots.
Decepticons: Starscream, Slipstream, Soundwave and Shockwave.
@@rodneyholmes5260 of course
@@vikingfromnorth45 Who is your favorite, if any?
