I love the direction they've been taking Optimus and Megatron's relationship in the more recent adaptations. Just highlighting the inherent tragedy of how irreconcilable differences can slowly turn the best of friends into the bitterest of enemies.
Not to mention the "reform" vs "burn it down" views on social issues. THAT, more than anything, helped Transformers stay relevant as more than just a kid's toy commercial, I feel.
We're probably never getting away from the "divine right of kings" idea behind the Prime title, but I REALLY hate the idea that Optimus is the reincarnation of one of the original Primes, destined from birth to lead. I'm glad that One walked that back and made it more of an "anyone can prove themself worthy" thing.
Also the idea that the oligarchs presiding over systemic inequality would ever be persuaded by a good argument and peacefully overturn their system is and was THE single most embarrassing idea ever written into Transformers canon.
Yeah, I've always preferred that Optimus be more of a Robot Captain America than Robot Jesus. The best of the best, but not divine in either attitude or birthright.
That's the main flaw of the Aligned version, tbh, along with Megatron starting the war out of jealousy. Thankfully, while Aligned succeeded in creating the generalized mythology that Transformers now pretty much draws from, most series eschew both of those elements, giving Megatron less petty reasons for starting the war (yes, being simply power hungry is less petty than jealousy), and, in this case Orion being a reincarnation. It works better when he is just an ordinary civilian. To a lesser extent, I'm not fond of Rodimus' affinity to the Matrix having a similar destiny. It's also just so much better that he's an ordinary bot whose qualities get him chosen to wield the Matrix, as is the case in 86
Damn!.. Sounds pretty poetic and based!.. As many stories, both fiction and non fiction show the start of a conflict beginning with the reason that multiple differing factions desire to save the world but disagree on how it should be done.
Smug Cog Guard #1: "Let's give him a headstart!" Smug Cog Guard #2: "Why not? It's not like he can transform!" Orion Pax: "Oh yeah? Now watch this!" *uses the Ultimate Joestar Secret Technique*
My personal headcanon for transformers one is that orion was originally meant to work at the archives and did for a little bit but was reassigned to being a miner in the wake of sentinel's betrayal, which is why he has an actual name rather than a designation like d-16 and b-127, it also helps explain why he knows the archives layout and security so well
My only issue with this is that it was only after Sentinel's betrayal that they started removing cogs, so if Orion worked as an archivist before Sentinel came to power, he'd know cogs were being taken from young Transformers.
Personally, i like him being an archivist the most, i just love the contrast of him once being a shy, timid nerd, to a Bold and noble leader. I just love the glowup.
TF ONE is my favorite version. Coming from the lower class, invading the library to learn, wanting a more equal society, uniting the people to take down the opressive system, doing all with courage to fight, compassion and empathy and finally becoming a Prime by his actions and beliefs proving him worthy. Also this movie reminded that "when education is not liberating, the dream of the oppressed is to become the oppressor". Because Orion and D-16 came from the same place but Orion sought to learn, started questioning and then fought for equality while D-16 admired power and strengh, never questioned and then sought to destroy so he could rule.
It could be that Orion was questioning because he might have been a librarian before Sentinel demoted him to miner. "Have you ever mined before?" Megatron: "No. I heard it's dangerous."
With Orion Pax covered, I wonder if the Basics on D-16/Megatronus may follow. My personal favorite take on Orion is the traditional sort of an unassuming individual that is granted the power that others would seek to take by force.
I hope so! The characterization of D-16 in the film was personally my favorite. While ultimately he's seen as the villain at the end, his endgame is understandable as he wants a free Cybertron where no workers or bots are suppressed in a corrupt system that he himself was a subject affected by said corrupt system
Though not every superhero has to have that bullied nerd background and tragically killed parents. Optimus' Archivist background would in itself explain many things about his mindset, whereas Megatron's Darwinist approach is obvious for someone whose life was at stake every day.
The rebooted IDW universe where Orion started off as a data clerk but then became a politician is interesting, because it is a good way to explain why Optimus is both highly wise and intelligent yet also a cunning leader. Both jobs having taught him skills he would use effectively as a General. We are shaped by our experiences so it's nice when the backstory of a character provides a clear path from beginning to end of their development in way that makes the most sense.
One thing that amazes me about the new film is how it combines several depictions of Optimus and Megatron's backstories and makes them feel brand new Their separation felt so heartbreaking and I hope that we get to see more films with these versions of the characters in the future!!!
I really hope so too, but the poor box office turnout has me worried that Hasbro might just decide to cut their losses and move on to another reboot attempt instead. Although maybe if we are lucky, they might decide to put out a direct to streaming sequel to fill out the time until they can fully develop a new direction for the franchise... and maybe if we are really lucky it will perform better enough on streaming to convince Hasbro to keep it going.
Most other stories depicting these 2 as friends often do so by showing D-16 having a cause to champion right from the start, & Orion Pax joining him later & growing close due to having shared visions & ideals. In that sense, they're comrades. Their relationship bound by their noble causes instead of personal matters, & there's a limit how close people like that can become, & how much the audience can relate to their stories. In this movie, they're already buddies before there's even a cause. They're friends with each other due to casual, possibly even stupid reasons, & that's how people like you & me make friends, & people also form simple friendships far often than comradeship. Such personal, intimate friendships also tend to be a lot closer than comradeship over a shared cause, as the parties involved serve themselves & each other instead of some higher cause above themselves. While it's often & even understandable for comradeships to fracture & collapse due to ideological differences, which are hardly personal over half of the time, falling out of simple yet close friendships hurt a lot worse & feels a lot sadder because they're so much more personal.
Transformers One is what the Aligned continuity wanted to be: an amalgamation of the best parts of the different continuities brought together into something great.
I don't know if the new movie will become the template for their individual origins, but I very much hope it becomes the template for their friendship. It's the first time it's ever felt genuinely tragic to me rather than just unavoidably inevitable.
I also like the movie shows how D-16 starts off being just a regular bloke who wanna go about his day doing regular stuff, slowly loses his way & gets consumed by rage & hatred as their journey unfolds, ultimately becoming the cold hateful killing machine that is Megatron, instead of him being an aggressive dude with anger issues right from the start.
Yeah, their friendship and brotherhood and their dissent into bitter enemies was beautifully told. I just wish Orion was a Archivist/Librarian like in the Aligned continuity.
@@pedroportela6476They did at least reference it with Orion’s interest in the archives! Who knows, now that they’re pretty much free to choose their own occupations, they can have an Easter egg in the next film showing Orion still has an interest in data archiving.
@@FalconWindbladerRewatching the movie, you notice D-16 is actually pretty aggressive even before their story starts. His threats are alarmingly creative, he’s quick to shift blame, his favorite prime was notorious for his strength, and Orion appeals to his ego once or twice. He definitely had that anger in him from the start, it was just never given a chance to really show.
@@jonathandelgado3755 I won't say whatever aggression he showed during the start was his underlying anger acting. While there were indeed signs saying that his ego was inflated somewhat, all of that aggression was a result of Orion kept roping him into situations he never wanted to be a part of. There're only so many times a regular dude can tolerate that kinda shit before getting so annoyed that he can't help flaring up. It can happen to just about anyone & underlying anger issues wouldn't need to be involved at all. I'm by & large a chill guy & even i'd get pissed getting myself into trouble almost constantly because of having a friend like Orion.
I'm a MUCH bigger fan of continuities where Orion's actions cause him to become Optimus Prime, rather than the ones that imply he just has some kinda pre-destined necessity to become him. It gives him more agency and gives his ascension more weight
It’s always interested me in what the intended meaning of those names were. Orion Pax alludes to either a “hunter of peace/peace hunter” or “heaven’s light (of) peace/peace of heaven’s light”. Optimus Prime can simply be “best (&) first”, but I always appreciated my sister’s interpretation from when we were kids way back in the ‘80s: Best Leader. I’m gonna go with that.
This is like when Marvels Steve Rogers/Captain America story. Steve was A little weak kid who had something done to him to make him Captain America. In TRANSFORMS we get Orion Pax becoming Optims Prime. Both show us that power and strength comes from within.
I’m so glad we finally got a movie of Prime and Meg’s origin since all we had before were the aligned continuity books/novels and those flashbacks in TF Prime, it was nice seeing a young Megs for the first time on screen and it was devastating for the two of them fall out.
Transformers one Orion is probably one of my favorite versions of the character, I like that his personality kinda resembles Hot Rod before he became a prime. And I like him being a working class bot like his g1 self, I think Optimus works better with a humble origin instead of being a reincarnation or descendant of the primes
I think TF One's version of Prime's history (as well as D-16's) might be the most elegant. It combines various previously existing elements (and adding some new ones) quite cleverly.
I particularly like the Aligned/Prime version. Both Peime and Megatron saw the same quality in Jack. OP was heartened by this but wanted Jack to make hos own choices valuing Jack's freedom. Megatron recognized that same quality and singled him out. He wasn't going to underestimate such heroics a second time.
And he never did, nor did he underestimate the power of having Jack as a bargaining chip. Like near the end of season 1 when they were fighting over the keys to the Omega Lock, Megatron demands the last 2 keys in exchange for Jack's life. "Surely the boy worthy of carrying the Key to Vector Sigma is worth two keys?" or something along those lines
i like a lot of the unintentional symbolism in the original cartoon. where megatron, as the most dangerous violence, has an alt form that is personal and intentional, optimus, the backbone of the fight for peace, is just some shlub, carrying the supplies that make society functional. having them be working class laborers, with first hand experience with how hard life can be, underlines how impactful different choices can be.
I want a version of Orion Pax that really takes advantage of the "archivist" idea by making him a huge history geek. The type that would squeal with excitement at the idea of seeing an ancient artefact like the Matrix or the Allspark in person, or especially meeting one of the Thirteen. Then he becomes leader and feels he has to put on a stoic persona all the time even when met with events like that, and everyone around him who knew him as Orion would know just how he's feeling inside.
I like when OP was a nobody who's really good and noble that he got chosen to be a worthy Prime instead of born to be Prime. Him being regular guy make him even more special when he became special.
I am glad that Orion Pax in TF One is not the reincarnated 13th Prime as it would just be him reclaiming his divine heritage and cheapens the whole "Primes are made, not born" theme.
I’d always loved how he was in archivist, but also love how the movie toys on that with him sneaking into the archives to learn of the location of the matrix… I really hope that Annie and every Transformers fan gets out to see it while it’s in the theater… I really think that the existence of a sequel depends on it… This movie was not only “better than the other movies made in recent years“, it absolutely Brilliant and, along with the 1986 movie (and WfC, FoC, Devasation games, and G1, Beast Wars, Animated and Prime cartoons… 😅), my *all-time favorite* product of the franchise. Another AMAZING video; many thanks, good Sir. …til all are ONE. \m/, 😊 ,\m/
I absolutely love the concept of Orion Pax being the reincarnated spark of the 13th Prime, and reclaiming his original identity down the line. Btw, the 13th Primes nitch was the Matrix of Leadership, or at least, the same power the matrix provides.
The TF:One movie might be one for my favorite takes on both OP and Megs, mainly bc we get to see them start in the same place, but one rallies the weak to get their justice while the other recruits the strong to seize the power.
That g1 episode is a classic, but I also really enjoyed the new movie version. It took so much from other stories and created something really engaging and enjoyable
What I really get from Orion Pax and the leader who does not know his destiny. Is the legend of King Arthur. In this King Arthur is Optimus Prime, with the Matrix Of Leadership being the sword Excalibur. With Alpha Trion being Merlin. Either by guiding Orion Pax to his destiny. Manipulating his journey by guiding him or creating him into the leader. That's just my take on it.
Am I the only one who thinks G1 Orion Pax's head resembles something from Meso-American artwork (i.e. Aztec, Olmec, Mayan)? Anyways, as long as there is no 'destined by birth' situation involved, I'm fine with just about any version of Orion/Optimus' origin. It's always more interesting when a character begins as a normal person before evolving into a heroic figure. The latest movie pulled off that concept very well, along with D-16/Megatron growing into a fearsome tyrant.
I’m glad I went to see Transformers One, the trailers didn’t do it justice what so ever. If anyone who is a transformers fan hasn’t seen it yet I would strongly recommend it, as there were a lot of Easter eggs and it was an original story that felt like another good edition to the franchise.
My favourite origin is archivist Orion Pax who unbeknownst to everyone, even himself, is the reincarnations of the Thirteenth Prime, and forms a bond with Megatron which is then shattered by their different ideologies.
Another thing about G1 Orion Pax that's pretty interesting is that his design was made by Floro Deary originally for Ultra Magnus in The Transformers: The Movie. However, when it was discovered that a Diaclone toy fit the bill slightly better, Deary's design would be recycled to become Orion Pax in War Dawn.
I kinda would like a scene or a small comic of Orion meets an older, more wise Optimus Prime, and just wondering if he could tell him what to do to fix everything, only for Optimus to tell him that he will make mistakes, and he will make them right, but only if he learns how to without his help
I'd like to see the Basics on: D-16 (or basicly just Megatron's origin story and what we know of it) next, even though I'm still keen on proposing the idea of The basics on Sunstreaker video.💛✨
I went to see Transformers One yesterday, and the story was so good ,it's take on Optimus and Megatron was definitely the best to date especially how it represented D-16 path to Megatron !
The sequel for Transformers One has a great opportunity to drive home the lore that Megatron and Optimus (not Orion and D-16) were brothers in arms, and have some movie continuity that D-16 is not completely gone yet. Then, the conclusion for that will solidify Megatron and Optimus as arch-enemies, and Megatron and the Decepticons as the villains we know, starting the famous War for Cybertron. Every outcome stems from the character's own choices. It's perfect.
One important note: In Dreamwave, Orion Pax was replaced with "Optronix", a data clerk. While the Optronix name was never used again, the data clerk backstory was reused for the aligned continuity
I just watched the movie and it was FANTASTIC. The parallel lines of how Orion and D-16 became what we know them as was brilliant. The movie really updated and brought together a lot of the elements of Transformers lore in a way that's accessible for the younger generation while at the same time being respectful to the fans that came before. I look forward to more movies done in the style TF:One.
I'm going to say it. I GREATLY prefer Orion's origins that exclude him being a reincarnated Demi-God. Rodimus Prime is a more fitting candidate since his role in the 86 film was that of a chosen one and the reincarnated 13th Prime feels like a perfect origin for him. Optimus being from more humble origins whose noble spirit, strength in his gentle nature, and heroic soul made him worthy to stand alongside those of divinity and his Creator something that is more inspiring than him being special because he was born special. it's also a reason i dislike the line Optimus told the Fallen in the ROTF comic about how "Primes aren't made, they're born" which feels like the antithesis to what Optimus is
I've always wondered if it would be funny to have Optimus Prime be Orion's superhero identity. Like "you ever wonder why we never see Orion Pax and Optimus Prime at the same time?"
i really appreciated the orion pax redesign as i was never a fan of the g1 look. man, ONE was such a great film, and the action was so good! i really loved the over the shoulder views when someone would be in vehicle mode. i felt like perhaps they took some cues from fast and furious films. and the director did an excellent job of making the race scene an exceptional segment as i immediately thought to myself, “oh no. this is the phantom menace 2.0”, but it rose above that by miles. i cant wait to purchase the movie, and watch it regularly.
It’s weird the way things come together in a way that you can’t imagine it any other way. Those first few years are like the Beatles or something..just one hit after another. From having Denny O’Neil name Optimus Prime, literally meaning first and best, to all the work Bob did, and Simon and Sunbow. 40 years later still hits hard 👊
I personally prefer the original alligned concept of prime being a data clerk and megatron being a low class gladiator. I feel it adds more to their friendship and bond that these two from different social circles can gind the time and goal to lead as one. The transformers one version is ok, but thats still my preferred take.
Shame no one thought about combining the three origins. Ex: Reincarnated Prime living as a laborer but is "Part time" librarian under Alpha Trion before the events that led him to Megatron and then showed his worthiness as a Prime in his new life.
I have always thought that it was interesting to give Optimus a life and name prior to becoming a prime, especially considering the simplicity of the original cartoon
TF ONE is a great film, I can see it influencing the franchise for years to come despite the box office score. I go for the archivist origin myself, but they all have their merit.
I like the movie hints at Optimus and Megatron’s alt origins with them both being miners but Pax is obsessed with the old archives and D-16 beating Starscream in combat to lead the high guard.
To right now, The Aligned and TF ONE have THE ABSOLUTE BEST origins, but of the 2 for the first time.....TF ONE is my favorite retelling of Optimus and Megatron origins, I love how well they show us how close D-16 and Orion Pax where, brothers almost, they friendship is the most genuine of all continuities, make it the more tragic when D-16 finally turns, that scene that now I didn't knew was inspired by IDW comics, really showing the birth not just of Optimus but also Megatron, is just my FAVORITE SCENE IN TRANSFORMERS HISTORY, this to me will be the definitely re telling and most generations will definitely be inspired by it. Again hats down for the team that write TF one, condense all of these in 1 single film is a work of art, and again the Aligned continuation is the most influenced as you can see how much inspiration the film took from TF Prime, I really hope this movie recovers man, we need more films in this continuity.
In all other tellings of the friendship between Orion Pax & D-16, it's actually comradeship instead of just friendship as we know it. In those stories, they're comrades, brothers-in-arms of a shared cause, not buddies. Few people dedicate their lives serving noble causes & fewer can claim themselves to have solid comradeship with anyone. Simply put, all the other tellings of their stories ain't something most people can relate to. In TF ONE, there's no cause. There's no purpose higher than either of them. None of the 2 set out to be defenders & champions of the destitute & downtrodden. They became friends only because they liked each other's vibe. They're buddies who hang out at work for breaks & chats, & after work for drinks & silly shenanigans. THAT is the kind of friendship that gets really REALLY personal, & also why it felt so genuine.
I like the idea of “ those who are worthy of being a prime are chosen” the best but their is also a lot of potential in the “descendant of a prime” idea from the movies
In TFP Ratchet:”Optimus was more like… jack.” Years later in the TFOne film. D-16: “Why did you bring jetpacks?” Orion Pax: “it’s time to show them we are more than meets the eye.” D-16: “Oh no.” Entering the race D-16: ( screaming ) “Are you crazy!?” Orion Pax: “Sure feels like it.” After seeing the differences and the realization… he was right!
Hello there Chris McFeely and fellow Transformers fans. I do apologize for the tardiness of this comment, but I was either a sleep or just waking up for work when this video was posted early this morning or late last night. Anyways, I just wanted to say that this new video dealing with Orion Pax was absolutely amazing. I don't know that this one character had such an amazing background from so many different sources that really makes one appreciate this wonderful toyline and animated series more and more. Thank you so much for this video and I hope that you and everyone else in this community has a great day and wonderful weekend. Until All Are One. Peace Out and Maximize.
9:45 I never understand how the hell IDW could point that the matrix was a sacred item in Autocracy while in The Fall Optimus says over and over again that the Matrix was just a pulse generator
While I appreciate the nuance that's been added to the Transformers universe, with Cybertron being filled with inequality or with Megatron having an actual philosophical point... There's a part of me that really wants to go back to the original cartoon with "Cybertron was a utopia until Megatron decided he should be the ruler of everything and gathered up all the malcontents and psychopaths on the planet to do it"
To me, I believe the PERFECT Orion PAx situation would merge the most significant concepts for his rise to Prime: Orion Pax would be a descendant of the Prime lineage, like most iterations, but that's where his similarities to the Primes up to that point would end. He would prove himself as a worthy successor of the Matrix and be granted the choice of whether or not to bear its power. Accepting it, he would be reborn as Optimus Prime
To this day the way Optimus became a prime in the WFC game has always stuck out to me because he proved himself as worthy both morally and strength wise for leading the Kaon prison break. That has always felt so rewarding and inspiring.
Honestly i do like more when they Have optimus wins the matrix because of his actions, having it because he's a reincarnation of the prime makes it feel that is by default instead of earn
Should be noted that the Aligned continuity was fairly messy, having some contradicting materials due to poor management and plans falling apart. Still, it is great seeing some of the things introduced in Aligned becoming staples within the lore. Also, Megatron was actually going by the name Megatronus prior to the war, naming himself just like the Prime he admired. It was only after Orion became the new Prime that he shortened his name into Megatron. I will say that I do wish we had gotten the gladiatorial origins for Megatron/D-16 in TFO, as I feel like that adds a great deal to his ruthless and combative nature. I have heard some people say that there were plans for something like that in the movie, though I haven't been able to confirm if they were mere plans or possibly removed scenes. Still, TFO really has proven to be one of the better Transformers films in recent years, even if the promotional side of things did a rather lackluster job of selling the film as a love letter to the legendary franchise.
I would love to see a video on Earthborn Cybertronians bots like the G1 Dinobots, those who were created by the All-Spark in both Animated and the live action movies, the BotBots and of course, the Terrans
for those that don't know, the align universe also include the games transformers war for cybertron(2010) and transformers fall of cybertron(2012), some scenes in this video are from these games, thank u for the video!
While i do like the idea of Orion being a reincarnation of the original primes, I don't like the 'destined to rule' part. If memory serves me correctly, even back then, the reason why the guy chose to be reincarnated was so that he could walk among the people as their equal, not their demigod ruler. I feel that sentiment is often overlooked whenever Orion Pax is being depicted as a reincarnation of a prime. As such, while i'd like that reincarnation of a prime included in an Orion Pax story, i'd like for him to have been chosen to wield the matrix because of his will & deeds, then having gotten blasted by Megatron for getting in the latter's way. I'd like the journey leading up to him becoming Optimus Prime being circumstantial, not because that's just his birthright due to his previous divine prime status. His previous life as a demigod could be worked into the story just being the reason why he's so unusually compassionate to his fellow bots & why he's so naturally inspirational, & maybe as a plot device to give him access to some stuff the Autobots would need in furthering their cause or quest, instead of being central & of great importance to his current form & identity as Optimus Prime.
I was so excited about this one! I loved his origin in Dreamwave but he wasn't Orion, right? Like Optronix? It doesn't look like it's spelled right.. but I love the episode War Dawn, and I'm stoked to watch this! Thank you for your awesome content!!
When I saw the trading cards with all the character designs, and the 13 Primes were included, I realized one of them must be new to the roster since during the Aligned Continuity, only twelve were named. I think it was a smart choice to make Zeta Prime one of the 13, since there had been some trouble with who he was in the Aligned Continuity.
All I want is for Orion Pax to meet the spirit of Primus, voiced by Peter Cullen himself, to say “arise Optimus Prime.”
Same❤

@templarw20 yeah compared to the g1 energy thing this one is more timeless as it can be anyone's government.
If you need to look for real life historical precedence, I suggest French Revolution, Lenin, China CCP. One word to describe: TRAGEDY.
We're probably never getting away from the "divine right of kings" idea behind the Prime title, but I REALLY hate the idea that Optimus is the reincarnation of one of the original Primes, destined from birth to lead. My personal headcanon for transformers one is that orion was originally meant to work at the archives and did for a little bit but was reassigned to being a miner in the wake of sentinel's betrayal, which is why he has an actual name rather than a designation like d-16 and b-127, it also helps explain why he knows the archives layout and security so well
I agree with you. That makes a LOT of sense.
My only issue with this is that it was only after Sentinel's betrayal that they started removing cogs, so if Orion worked as an archivist before Sentinel came to power, he'd know cogs were being taken from young Transformers.
I like to think Orion did originally work in the data archives, but was busted down to being a miner after he screwed up something.
Yeah, it makes more sense that the miners don’t have names, but those who were not originally miners have them.
Personally, i like him being an archivist the most, i just love the contrast of him once being a shy, timid nerd, to a Bold and noble leader. I just love the glowup.
I like that orions story in TF one is basically a mixture of all the stories that came before it. Just a few new twists added.
I think it's probably the funniest prime has been since G1 and ES.
I love the twist that if this is highschool setting, Orion is the troublemaker and D is quiet nerd.
TF ONE is my favorite version. Coming from the lower class, invading the library to learn, wanting a more equal society, uniting the people to take down the opressive system, doing all with courage to fight, compassion and empathy and finally becoming a Prime by his actions and beliefs proving him worthy.

Yes We're looking forward about the origins of D-16, the robot who would become Megatron
As a wise Klingon once said: "Great men do not seek power. They have power thrust upon them."
@@GoGojiraGo Yep, that's something I often thought of if I wrote such a story.
Orion Pax: I do not want it.
Alpha Trion: That it why you've earned it.
One thing that amazes me about the new film is how it combines several depictions of Optimus and Megatron's backstories and makes them feel brand new
Their separation felt so heartbreaking and I hope that we get to see more films with these versions of the characters in the future!!!
When Ratchet said that Orion Pax was once like Jack Darby, he wasn't kidding.
Hmm... must be coincidence then
@@TheWarmachine375 Huh.. neat.

@@雪者... which Prime are we talking about?
Well events changes people
Josh Keaton as Orion Pax?
David Wise would be proud of what "War Dawn" inspired to this day :)
And in China and Mandarin languages, Optimus Prime’s name there literally means “Pillar that Supports the Sky”.
In TF One, they give it a new spin by making Orion's optimism his defining trait - and the Primes bestowing him a new name to reflect it.
“ARISE!!!!!…….Optimus Prime” - Alpha Trion.
“We were given to change our world and you chose to destroy it,just like sentinel, you have betrayed cybertron and its Citizens, and you betrayed me”
What's that from?

This is like when Marvels Steve Rogers/Captain America story. Steve was A little weak kid who had something done to him to make him Captain America. In TRANSFORMS we get Orion Pax becoming Optims Prime. Both show us that power and strength comes from within.
True leaders are not born, they are forged in the fires of their experiences.
The first version fits that description. Not so much the other versions
I’m so glad we finally got a movie of Prime and Meg’s origin since all we had before were the aligned continuity books/novels and those flashbacks in TF Prime, it was nice seeing a young Megs for the first time on screen and it was devastating for the two of them fall out.
yes
4:26 - text banner reads "TiLL ALL ARE ONE" nice
THE KING OF TRANSFORMERS BASICS BACK
i like a lot of the unintentional symbolism in the original cartoon. where megatron, as the most dangerous violence, has an alt form that is personal and intentional, optimus, the backbone of the fight for peace, is just some shlub, carrying the supplies that make society functional. having them be working class laborers, with first hand experience with how hard life can be, underlines how impactful different choices can be.
I want to see D-16 next.
But rather see the Basics on Sunstreaker in November.
Agree
I like when OP was a nobody who's really good and noble that he got chosen to be a worthy Prime instead of born to be Prime. Him being regular guy make him even more special when he became special.
I am glad that Orion Pax in TF One is not the reincarnated 13th Prime as it would just be him reclaiming his divine heritage and cheapens the whole "Primes are made, not born" theme.
You mean Primes are born not made
@@normanmccultureboy6492 Wasn't Aligned continuity Optimus literally born a Prime from the beginning after reincarnating as Orion Pax?
@@TheWarmachine375...I don't think it was mentioned much in fiction

I’d always loved how he was in archivist, but also love how the movie toys on that with him sneaking into the archives to learn of the location of the matrix…
I really hope that Annie and every Transformers fan gets out to see it while it’s in the theater… I really think that the existence of a sequel depends on it… This movie was not only “better than the other movies made in recent years“, it absolutely Brilliant and, along with the 1986 movie (and WfC, FoC, Devasation games, and G1, Beast Wars, Animated and Prime cartoons… 😅), my *all-time favorite* product of the franchise.
I love Orion!!!! He will always be part of Optimus no matter what
The TF:One movie might be one for my favorite takes on both OP and Megs, mainly bc we get to see them start in the same place, but one rallies the weak to get their justice while the other recruits the strong to seize the power.
That g1 episode is a classic, but I also really enjoyed the new movie version. It took so much from other stories and created something really engaging and enjoyable
I really like how Optimus Prime uses to be a young cybertronian Orion pax and how all the history of the prime
Yes that head/helmet design is very much like the Aztecs.
1:13 I just love the Xaaron call out.
I'd like to see the Basics on: D-16 (or basicly just Megatron's origin story and what we know of it) next,
even though I'm still keen on proposing the idea of The basics on Sunstreaker video.💛✨
Same
A Hero’s Humble Beginnings.
Here's hoping we get a basics on D-16.
One important note: In Dreamwave, Orion Pax was replaced with "Optronix", a data clerk. While the Optronix name was never used again, the data clerk backstory was reused for the aligned continuity
I grew up on the unicorn trilogy. So I never knew about Orion Pax. Now for the first time I’m starting the 1980s series.
I look forward to more movies done in the style TF:One.
the basics on the axelerators would be really cool, theyre the only autobot subgroup you havent done yet
THAT WOULD BE SO INTERESTING OMG
i really appreciated the orion pax redesign as i was never a fan of the g1 look. man, ONE was such a great film, and the action was so good! i really loved the over the shoulder views when someone would be in vehicle mode. i felt like perhaps they took some cues from fast and furious films. and the director did an excellent job of making the race scene an exceptional segment as i immediately thought to myself, “oh no. this is the phantom menace 2.0”, but it rose above that by miles. i cant wait to purchase the movie, and watch it regularly.
Another great video! All of Orion’s back stories/jobs are pretty cool but I really like him as a librarian.
Orion as a security officer could if i have my own transformers universe.
He's like one of the very few good cops left in a very corrupt system , much like James Gordoon in the GCPD before he became commissioner.
@@foldabotZ i wasnt a fan of the idea of orion as a security officer until you made that comment!
In TFP
Ratchet:”Optimus was more like… jack.”
Years later in the TFOne film.
D-16: “Why did you bring jetpacks?”
Orion Pax: “it’s time to show them we are more than meets the eye.”
D-16: “Oh no.”
Entering the race
D-16: ( screaming ) “Are you crazy!?”
Orion Pax: “Sure feels like it.”
After seeing the differences and the realization… he was right!
Not exactly the same continuity.
Optimus Prime is the perfect example of a hero who can start of from humble beginnings before becoming a legend

9:45 I never understand how the hell IDW could point that the matrix was a sacred item in Autocracy while in The Fall Optimus says over and over again that the Matrix was just a pulse generator
Idw did shift gears slowly from that era tp the mtmte and rid eras...
@@gabrielchee8470 A shift for the bad
While I appreciate the nuance that's been added to the Transformers universe, with Cybertron being filled with inequality or with Megatron having an actual philosophical point... There's a part of me that really wants to go back to the original cartoon with "Cybertron was a utopia until Megatron decided he should be the ruler of everything and gathered up all the malcontents and psychopaths on the planet to do it"
We all have to support Transformers ONE so it can become the sucess that assure a sequel
I'm just glad they showed the origin because everyone just thought that he was just born it but there are different stories of how to become a hero
Orion Pax is here!
“One is not born into greatness, rather one must earn it.”
To me, I believe the PERFECT Orion PAx situation would merge the most significant concepts for his rise to Prime:
Orion Pax would be a descendant of the Prime lineage, like most iterations, but that's where his similarities to the Primes up to that point would end. He would prove himself as a worthy successor of the Matrix and be granted the choice of whether or not to bear its power. Accepting it, he would be reborn as Optimus Prime
Thank you for flagging spoilers. Classy asf. The internet has turned into the wild west with spoilers in the last few years.
Kinda surprised it took this long to get an Orion Pax video. Not disappointed on the timing though
For obscure characters month, you should do windcharger
About time Orion Pax got a video and what better time then with a new movie staring him
Should be noted that the Aligned continuity was fairly messy, having some contradicting materials due to poor management and plans falling apart.

Yes thank you , you get it 😊

When I saw the trading cards with all the character designs, and the 13 Primes were included, I realized one of them must be new to the roster since during the Aligned Continuity, only twelve were named. I think it was a smart choice to make Zeta Prime one of the 13, since there had been some trouble with who he was in the Aligned Continuity.
Glad I've seen the movie because you weren't joking about spoilers.
