Bought an 064 in 1993 paid $710 for it out the door tax and all used it last weekend to cut 3 cordes of wood. Always starts, even when it’s super cold. Every time I run it, it “Still” amazes me , it brings back a lot of memories of making a living all through high school and puts a smile on my face. Definitely one of the finer things in life!

Great vid I love the pure accuracy in your cuts I love nothing more than hanging off the end of my saws but when I can’t get out due to weather or lack of wood I can watch and listen for hours to your saws and faultless cutting. Thanks from New Zealand
Love the old Stihl saws from the 80's I'm currently running an 038 magnum, 038 magnum 2, 036 pro, but my 031 sits in the garage. Both of the mags have 3 point WCS dogs on them and they're awesome!
I have my cousin's 064AV that I am in the process of re sealing. He used it falling for years. She's beat to hell but runs like a dream! Now she just lives her life in retirement cutting fire wood.
Just turned 20..I do as much tree work as I can find. This is the main saw I use 😅 and first saw I rebuilt myself… looks identical to yours except the max flow kit is different. Cool to see nice video 👍

Absolutely love the square body trucks that you have for sure!! I have 5 6 of them and they are all the 1TON 4x4 also!! I hated braking stuff all the time on the 3/4ton trucks so I had to jump up and definitely don’t brake stuff like I used to!! I’d definitely love to see a video on both trucks some time for sure!!! Just going over them and what all that is on them and what’s in them!!! I bet that you would definitely have others come to your channel also that have never seen you before!!!
Been out using my old trusty 046 today...25 plus years old still runs like a top in mid size DF timber. That 064 still sounds great...I still have my 056 mag Il...still run in goodshape... I skip the 064...went to 066..Shoe in SW Oregon

I love my 064 just wish I could find a new coil that worked as good as the oem. I changed the flywheel to the old model 066 and an aftermarket coil but it isn't quite the same but she still gets the job done.
When I am cutting big wood I prefer my 500i but when I am limbing smaller branches 9" or less I prefer my 046 it has less rpm and more torque. I have a refurbished 066 that I have never started the wood is just not big enough where I am at to justify using a big saw but I sure am glad that I bought it.

They're not the lightest, they're not the flashiest....but Dammit if the "oh" generation of Stihls isn't my favorite. Runners, man. They just go. Simple and user friendly.

Your 064 sounds great Gordy! Do you ever come accross the OEM Full wrap handles for the 064 or early 066? I have been looking for a long time for one for a 066 I purchased from a fellow in California whom kept the original full wrap handle.
The original wrap handles are difficult to find on those models they were raked back a bit But what I do is buy a 660 wrap handle and hand guard and they bolt right up and they are raked forward so the weight balances nicer than the original handle👌
@@westcoastsaw1368 Thanks Gordy. I am running the original version 3/4 wrap on it now like most of my 064s have. That handle and the brake that works with it for the 064 and early flat top 066 are two things I wish Stihl still sold. I'll keep looking and putting the word out and one day one will show up.
I like my 261c and 462 a lot, but the decomp valves are completely useless. The m tronic carb in the 261 hasn't given me an issue, but it doesn't inspire confidence either. The elasto start I really like though. I retired an old ported poulan 445 and upgraded to the 462. When I bought the saw, the salesman was very adamant about telling me to use the decomp after every pull. I couldn't imagine doing that.. Not for weak sisters but at the same time the 462 feels like a cadillac in comparison to the older saws.
@@alexstromberg7696 I know. But not as light as a 500i. I was just referring to people liking new saws because they are lighter. I prefer older because they were built to last.
Ultimately they are all disposable as long as there are modern equivalents in the stores. Good luck running this thing for 50 years in the woods and thinking you can get oem parts. I run mostly "modern" saws but will run my 346/372/200t occasionally because they are awesome and bring me back to a more simple time.

I picked an 064 up for 100 bucks. The coil ended needing replaced. I swapped it and the flywheel out. It has been a great saw.

The 064 AV was actually the leader in power to weight ratio when it came out. It still might be as far as non fuel injected saws go.
Yeah the 1122’s have a sound that’s Unique. Would be nice if Stihl stayed with screw caps.

Wish Stihl would make real saws again. No m tronics, no elasto start, no computer, no decompression valve, actual bottom end power again.
Last one that was real was the 660.
