Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! When I started logging in 1990 my dad handed me an 064, I was 16 years old and not built for logging. If I ran the saw out of gas and it got cold I had a real hard time restarting it so my dad put the thicker base gasket in it solving that problem. A couple of years later my dad felt I had put enough time in logging and gave me that 064 when he purchased a new 066 flat top, (the saw in my picture). I have run that 064 for 32 years now and own several others. For many years that 064 was the only saw I owned, thankfully it survived my journey through the game of logging, the fuel tank has been patched a number of times from being crushed, the handle bent and straightend several times. It helped me purchase a dozer and a skidder of my own. My local Stihl dealer is constantly telling me how I am the only logger he knows still running 25+ year old saws. I have retired several old saws from full time logging, but cannot leave the 064 on a sheIf. I am blessed to be able to purchase any saw I want now but none have measured up to an 064. I have good reason to say they are one of the best saws ever made.

I have two 064’s and an 066. I love them! The two 064’s have a ton of compression and run really strong. I have probably cut 200-300 cords of wood with both and they have never been apart and still run strong. They both have muffler and filter mods. Running 28 and 32” bars. They will out cut any of my friends newer saws, 462 and 500i included.

I have a “Frankensaw” 064 that’ll absolutely stomp a 500i into the ground without breaking a sweat. The pre epa design allows for lotsa ballsa to be made with a good build. The AV system isnt as good as the state of the art 500i and the 064 is a fuzz heavier but not THAT much heavier for the performance

I bought an 064 at the pawn shop 20 years ago….$250. Used it occasionally for big stuff. It got hard to start last time & sounds weak, so I pulled the muff. Shows some scoring on the piston but the cylinder looks ok. So a new cylinder & rings were $22 at the “Red Barn.” I’ll add to this after I get it back together…

The “0**” series saws are still my favorite. Each seem to have their own quirks to work on them but once you know what they are they really aren’t that bad. I have a 045 Super, 056av, 026 pro, an old 015 and several 020av and avp’s that I’m currently messing around with. I just bought a new MS 194 t this year and gotta say I’m pretty impressed with it but it doesn’t have the soul of my old saws. I would love a 064 to add to my collection.

My old Husqvarna 380CD is built like a Panzer VI Kampfwagen. It’s 77cc’s also delivers big power with it’s Tillotson carb and ported muffler. No big mods yet. Runs a 32-36” bar no problem. And it’s construction is unlike anything you can buy now. Only plastic on it is the top cover and even that plastic is twice as thick as the cheap plastic covering even new Stihls and Huskies. They don’t make em like they used to
