    Could a faulty injector also cause engine knock ? I noticed my acceleration times were getting slower. In 2nd gear you could actually feel the engine reducing power. Had it checked, datalog revealed that cylinder 1 and 4 had knock retarding. Checked the cylinders with boroscope, looked good, not too much carbon build up. Replaced sparkplugs and coils on those cylinders, only minimal improvement. The mechanic now suspects the injectors. Had no misfires and no errorcodes. M140, stage 2+, TU pump, 48.000 km. Thanks!

Pulled the tune and am running some injector cleaner through but code hasn't cleared. If there's no missfire or stuttering is it probably ok to drive to work more of the injector cleaner through to see if it clears the potential slight blockage and code?

      @@kern417 what's the best way to get a flow matched set of injectors? In my srt4 the best were ID or FIC. I'm new to the b58 platform and I'm finding it a little bit harder to find an oem set because from what I heard they can't be purchased as a set and come singularly sourced.
      Im heading toward 120k mileage and I'm watching a lot of your videos that the algorithm sends my way. Very helpful videos and I watched the one you did on aftermarket injectors that flow 20% more if I remember right.

      It was the dumbest thing ever. So I installed all my coil packs and apparently I missed one and forgot to bolt it town. So over time it slowly snugged it’s way out and became loose therefore lacking good contact with the spark plug and causing all sorts of codes.

    E30 not so bad but Ethanol in general is a huge problem for injectors if you let a E50 or more mix sit in your system for a week change or get your injectors cleaned. Bad injectors can potentially cause engine damage. You could also run a 10 micron filter like the ID750 to improve safety.

    Injectors are one of those weird things where it’s literally a lottery/crap shoot. People periodically replace them thinking it protects them from failures but the truth is it doesn’t and there is a chance that the new injectors you put in could be prone to failing or failing much earlier than the ones in the car. The truth is these failures are rare and very isolated as these injectors are basically used in so many different engines/cars. B38 b48 b58 bmws minis plus all the other oems that might use them etc What you hear is the vocal minority on the internet who drove around with a leaky injector which washed down the bore and destroyed the wire arc coating in the block. Believe me if it was that widespread you’d be hearing it all over the internet. TLDR I don’t think there are contributors to these failures and it’s more luck based. The advice you gave is correct. If you experience poor running of the engine stop driving it immediately and get it towed/diagnosed/repaired.

    The TU fuel pump is designed to run at a higher rail pressure. I know rail pressure is regulated, though that's not how that system was designed to work (ie to compensate for a mismatched fuel pump) and considering we now have fuel system issues, it is a potential contributing factor.
    I also don't agree with you regarding pushing the fuel system to the limit of its capacity or running non standard fuel. Any time you exceed design requirements and safety margins, you have a potential for failure. So unless someone with engineering knowledge of high pressure common rail systems can give an assesment otherwise, that for sure puts extra stress on the injectors themselves or other parts that ultimately lead to the injectors failing.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The TU pump pressure is regulated fine due to how the control valve works. I made a video on it a few weeks ago. Check it out.
      I also explained why running different fuels within the systems limits doesn't cause it to fail. It's like saying your wastegate failed because you're running more boost. It has a range from 0-100% and it's an on-off switch. Opening for longer doesn't accelerate wear in that sense. You don't have to agree but those are facts.

I shut the car off to inspect. Wasn't near home. Restarted and sputtered down the road really slow a couple minutes and got a really loud backfire . Shut it off and called a tow. After some reading, it seems running rich may have caused the backfire. Anyone else experience this? I'm hoping no damage occurred. Will be diagnosing and replacing parts soon.
