I came in SO ready to hate Trolls, but they actually had really good comedic timing and I laughed more than I did in half of the other movies on the list. Trust me, I'm as against MARKETING: THE MOVIE as the next guy, but if you know how to time your comedy it gets at least a few points.

SOOOOOOO UNDERRATED. Visually stunning action sequences, likable characters, unique conflict, funny jokes, great Superman in-jokes, decent soundtrack. It's a movie that deserves a lot more love than it gets.
Megamind needs more attention.
And the saddest thing about this is that it lost attention because of Despicable Me...

Hoodwinked over Shrek? I remember hoodwinked is a litter grittier, but the animation is ugly and the squirrel made me learn at a young age to hate comedy relief characters.

Hoodwinked has bad animation because it had a very low budget, but the writing and storytelling techniques make it really great, at least to me

I liked it more when I was a kid, though. I think the first Shrek is a bit better. There's just so many other way better films like Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Megamind, Wreck it Ralph, Coco, Toy Story 1-3, How to Train Your Dragon 1+2. Even Frozen is a stronger movie in my opinion haha
Kung Fu Panda 2 I feel is better the the first; the animation is more beautiful, the characters have more emotional depth, and the villain just steals the show with his intimidating presence that perfectly contrast the film light hatred tone, it's like if you dropped judge frollo or Prince Joffrey in frozen or zootopia.

It is great. Name one other animated movie that includes a mass genocide of FUCKING CHILDREN!!! Not to mention torture of an entire race of Jews, plague, death darkness and pain, and MORE families losing THEIR FUCKING CHILDREN TO DEATH! And it isn't afraid to push boundaries of kids movies, like the sex slave role being VERY implied, to the point where they pretty much flat out say it.

There is one fundamental flaw in Prince of Egypt that ruined dreamworks as a whole:
NOBODY FUCKING SAW IT. If PoE was a lot more successful I have a feeling that Dreamworks would actually try a hell of a lot more in making grander stories. But no. It bombed in the box office so now we get Puss in Boots and Jack Black the Panda
I saw POE as a kid and It confused the living daylights out of me. The movie is fucking fantastic, as a teen and adult. The issue is that Western audiences sees cartoon movies = for babies. I think HOND suffers from the same problems. ;/
yeah hell so does Kubo and the two strings. Sausage party was supposed to be something to change that and prove that there is an audience for adult animation but it really took a step forward and 12 steps back which, kind of, sort of, PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF.
Movies like Home, Boss Baby, and even the new Smurfs are made for children. You'd think for Smurfs, they'd want to cash in on that name and nostalgia, but nope. They couldn't make it enjoyable for anyone over nine, maybe lower.

I was saying that movie companies today are putting out complete trash that only kids can enjoy, because for some reason they don't want to put in the effort to make a decent film that everyone can enjoy. I don't know if you go back and check these, but there was a pretty badass moment behind the scenes for Prince of Egypt.
The higher ups wanted a dramatic scene where Moses gives up at the Red Sea, and has to be given a pep talk from... I think his wife, specifically , it was a 'You've had the power inside of you all along' type speech. The storyboard artist, an athiest, complied and sketched a rough draft of that scene.
The higher up loved it, but wondered who that guy in the background with a horned helmet was.
"Oh, that's Thor. I figured if you wanted to fuck around with the Bible, we might as well throw him in."
The idea was dropped shortly after.
While I like to believe the story as it is a very compelling story and a huge middle finger to the higher-ups... I can't seem to find an actual source to it :(

Prince of Egypt is pretty much the only non-offensive and high quality Christianity-related film.
Well it just takes the narrative and plays it relatively straight without trying to twist it to someone's specific agenda; it's just "hey, here's the story, take it or leave it" and that totally works.

That's pretty much true. I go to a Catholic School (ugh) and in religion class all they do is show us these horrible religious movies and make us write essays on them. I've seen waaaaaaaaaaay too many in-your-face, preachy, this-is-what-you-need-to-believe-in movies.
My favorite Dreamworks movies are Prince of Egypt, Kung Fu Panda series, How to Train Your Dragon series and Rise of the Guardians. All of those are my childhood right there!

I actually thought Mr. Peabody and Sherman was...*winces*...good? Maybe it was just b/c I had low expectations going in, but it's a very enjoyable movie. It's not profound or a classic, but I'd definitely consider it an above-average animated film.

Yeah it doesn't get as much credit as it deserves. It builds upon the first in interesting ways and unlike most sequels that reset all the characters to how they were at the start of the first movie this film actually presents the characters with new challenges that forces them to grow further (only to have the next two Shreks muck that up.)

But... Kung Fu Panda 2 is the best of the three movies! I LOVED Shen's character! The fights were great!! The theme of the movie! The dark / friendly mix was perfect! It's one of my favorites! I was expecting Kung Fu Panda 3 to be similar (did the trailer mislead anyone else?... no?... just me?) and it wasn't. It was too silly and too comedic for my taste.
kKfpd2 felt a bit like a well written xiaxia novel...
#2 -- the new skill was too easily learned. So much of the movie didn't work. #3 -- if you're lazy and don't strive to do anything, that's your skill. Don't worry. Even the laziest among us can defeat armies by just being 'you'. And if all else fails, you have a secret inner weapon.

They were adding symbolism. In the first movie po fights Tai Lung a physical Road block, Shen was a mental road block and Kia was a spiritual road block all 3 things that Kung fu masters had to surpass in time but usually not with villains

Because humor is subjective and this person has a very different sense of humor than you or I do.
For me it's one of the best.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Monsters vs Aliens. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Dr. Cockroach's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Monsters vs Aliens truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in B.O.B.'s existential catchphrase "Oh! My back! Just kidding! I don't have a back!", which itself is a cryptic reference to I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Robert Letterman and Conrad Vernon's geniuses unfold on their television screens.

Kenny McCormick Wtf? Zootopia has nothing to do with beastiality, or even romance in general. The only thing we get is a wedding between characters that are implied but not actually known. The movie is about the effects of prejudice on people and it tells you that you should pursue your happiness regardless of what others think. What about this movie has anything to do with furry culture?
furries are just basically anthro animals, right? Wouldn't that mean Mickey Mouse could technically be classified as a furry? Or did I get my meaning of furries wrong?
I don't like the movie for the bland story made solely to get a message across. The characters are sort of bland besides nick and Judy. Every other character is what their animal is and besides maybe raising a little laugh it doesn't make for a compelling motivation
Ok but they made Nick and Judy very likeable and relatable. And the movie does have a very strong message, wether or not the entire movie was just getting it across. And even if it was doing only that, they did it competently and with a lot of passion. They don't show it as black and white with one side obviously being oppressed and the other being dominant. The film also shows the dangers of living in fear of the previous oppressors and as a result discriminating against the once dominant group. Neither side is right or wrong, they are equal and deserve to be treated with equal respect. The characters Nick and Judy help get it across even better because of their past experiences and the ways they think the world works, one is optimistic while the other is cynical, but they understand one another in a believable way.
If they really wanted a powerful message like that to be portrayed like this big universal conflict then they shouldn't have the discrimination be caused by one group of people-The villain, it completely loses the point of it not being because of one person or a small group of people
I LOVED shark tale when I was little. I thought it was so fun, colorful, and had a really good soundtrack (I had the CD lol). Not gonna say it's the best film ever but 7 year old me loved it.

I was forced to watch it on a bus ride for a field trip many years ago. I forced myself to enjoy it, and it worked... suprisingly.

Spirit is my favorite animated movie, and it will forever will be. But I gotta say HTTYD and Road to El Dorado come pretty close. As well as Treasure Planet and Book of Life.

It's interesting that you ranked all the Aardman movies in the opposite order to the consensus. In England, we're big fans of Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run but most consider Flushed Away a misstep- probably because it's the least Aardman and most Dreamworks in style.

Was Shrek more entertaining than Prince of Egypt? Since I watched them both as a kid I would say yes. Is Shrek better than Prince of Egypt in any way other than entertaining children? I would say no. There are arguments for both sides as to which movie is "better" but at the very least respect each one for what it is. Sometimes you want to see something powerful and other times you just want to have fun and relax, I enjoy each one in a different way so its not really fair to compare them.

I unironically love Home. It’s one of those films that you first like in an ironic sense because of it’s flaws but then eventually love it for it’s flaws and it’s pros. How To Train Your Dragon is still my favorite though.

DreamWorks is weird. They can't seem to find a balance in what type of movies they want to produce. It's strange to see how inconsistent the quality is for them.
I get the sense that DreamWorks has about 3-4 movies in production at any given time and they can only afford to put their quality teams on maybe 1.5 of those.
It feels like they have multiple production groups, and only one of them are good.

Give DreamWorks _some_ credit: When they want money, they don't automatically think "remakes", they make great follow up movies to the original (except Madagascar and Shrek...they went a little overboard.)

Gosh, I love El Dorado. The dynamic between the main characters is just wonderful. Sure, the plot isn't that groundbreaking, but oh my goodness is the movie enjoyable even after watching it several times.

Prince of Egypt was incredible!! I absolutely loved the soundtrack !!
I fucking loved Megamind. It was so tongue in cheek that the tongue was, at some points, attempting to burst out of the cheek and start singing Soprano.
The problem was it was coming out in that series of movies where everyone is making an extremely similar movie at the same time i.e. Bug's Life / Antz, Shark Tale / Finding Nemo, Madagascar / The Wild.
Its twin, Despicable Me, won out, obviously. I think it's a shame b/c I think both are great movies, but b/c of DM's success, it effectively sunk Megamind's franchise potential and drew the focus onto the stupidest part of the movie which shall not be named here...which are tolerable and even funny in small doses, but unbearable in large amounts, not to mention feature-length films.
I, too, loved Megamind. Despicable Me was merely okay IMO and I'll never understand why it was more successful.
I'm that way with Ice Age movies. I can't find anyone who likes them, but they keep making sequel after sequel. The only one I saw was the original, and it was not awful, but I never want to see it again.

Good choice! I love Shrek 2. I think that it's a very funny movie that has a surprising amount of thrills and it takes a fresh and rewarding approach to advancing Shrek and Fiona's relationship. It wasn't checking any boxes in order to make up a story, and to just call a day. It was very unique.

DreamWorks is such a mixed bag. they can make beautiful movies like How to train your dragon or Prince of Egypt, and then make Home and Boss Baby
Boss Baby could've been worse.
Hwarming When I took my kids to see boss baby it got a few legit chuckles out of me. It wasn't that bad. I'd give it a 5/10.
