I was the Game Director for four different Disney Infinity playsets: (Lone Ranger, Avengers, Inside Out, and Finding Dory) and I very much appreciate this video. One additional fun fact about Disney Infinty is that after Avalanche was closed by Disney, it was later reopened under WB's management. The development team then went on to create Hogwarts Legacy. So, kind of a happy ending after all. :)
Hello were there ever any plans for ms marvel (kamala khan) and miles morales to be in Disney infinity? since Nova is in the game, it would’ve been so cool that the legacy trio from champions team were there.
I always felt that Disney should have pivoted away from the "Toys-to-life" model, since it was dying and focused more on the content generation aspect of the game, moving to digital versions of the various assets just to keep the "Toys" model going if that is what was needed to keep the suits happy. I even tracked down James Pitaro and tried to convince him to consider doing that, and moving in the direction that Roblox was going. I basically was told to "eff off". The irony here is now disney is buying into Epic and Fortnite and are basically planning on remaking Disney Infinity with and focus as a content creation engine. Spending 10 times the money they could have saved, and have owned the company outright producing it and have BEEN doing it these last 7 years. Such a shame.
I used to play this game every day. I still have like 30 huge plastic bins all filled with characters. I even got a super rare Peter Pan figure off eBay.

I think the biggest issue was the fact they keep releasing a new Disney infinite game every year. I stopped playing cause my parents kept complaining about how they had to spend money to get figures. And being a kid who had no money I ended up stop playing.
I remember the day the game franchise got canceled. It sucked because it was me and my younger brother’s favorite game to play together but there was a bright side. I was working a part time job and couldn’t afford the (from what I remember) 11-13 dollar price for each character but when the game got canceled a week or so later the finding dory world came out and I thought I’d get it for my brother and it was 7 dollars and better yet the single characters were like 3 bucks. I grabbed like 10 of them and the smile on his face seeing them all. We played for hrs and the game didn’t die in our house for like 2yrs after the game series died. We had almost every character by the end because they dropped to like 2 bucks on game stop and every check id let him pick 10( i mean like 20 bucks a week is worth happiness) just to see his giant smile. This game will forever be part of my heart
I had a similar experience, but with my father! me and my little brother continued to play the game after its cancellation and my dad would always come home with a new disney infinity character every day because of how the prices had dropped
I just want add that after canceling the franchise they release each game in gold edition that allow players to play the games like if they had the all collections for a very decent price. Honestly I think they care more about their games nowadays than they do the movies and TV shows they’re putting out. Everybody knows that when there’s a new Star Wars thing there is a 98% chance it’s gonna suck. But look at how everybody reacted when they casually decided that Marvel versus Capcom deserves to live again. The entire gaming community was ecstatic. If you get people more excited for 20-year-old fighting games than you do for your newest big budget TV series, I think it’s fair to assume the gaming division gets more love.

I remembered getting Disney Infinity 2.0 game along with the Wii U in 2015 Christmas. And Man, I Enjoyed Playing The Avengers Playset & Completing The Spider-Man Playset With My Younger Brother. Then, months later, in April 2016, we got Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack along with getting both the Darth Vader & Symbiote Spider-Man Figures, then we soon got the Marvel Battlegrounds set and the rise aganist the empire starter pack, and me and my brother enjoyed it a lot. With me and my brother, Completing the Star Wars playsets, Playing Marvel Battlegrounds, & making toy box worlds were My brother will play Anakin Skywalker & Me playing Spider-Man. When I heard that the news in May of 2016 that they're canceling Disney Infinity, just imagine how much that breaks my heart, knowing that they won't be able to produce more Disney, Pixar, Marvel, & Star Wars characters. But even then, I still enjoyed this game. Too bad most of the Marvel & Star Wars figures I have were lost. But then again, 2015-Early 2017 memories of this game.
I started buying this for my youngest when he was 2, just to get him into gaming as he grew up. Once he could play, we played this together all the time. Both Story and Toybox. I used to go to Downtown Disney damn near every weekend to get new released characters. I still have all the discs and multiple carrying cases full of the physical character statutes.
What killed disney infinity was the fact that they marketed the sequels as just updates for the previous ones, giving people the impression that they could just buy a previous edition that was being sold for cheaper, and then update it to the newer one. That's what happened to us, and i still feel like we've been scammed.
No one seems to talk about the compatibility aspect of these games. If you join the game (Infinity/Skylanders or Dimensions) after a few years, you have to do so much research about which characters work with which game. It may seem obvious that 3.0 characters don't work with 1.0, but it is hard to keep track of all of that if you join in year 2 or 3 rather than from the beginning. If the shop/online shop doesn't list each characters edition then you can easily buy the wrong product. I think Toys to LIfe could work if the developers promise to patch in new characters to old games, so that you can buy whatever you want and not have to worry about wasting your money on incompatible products.
I remember me and my big brother got Disney 1.0 and played it every single day and would run to the isle in the store with all the disney infinity characters and skylanders and would dream about having every character. This truely was the greatest gaming era in the history of video games in my opinion. When we got Disney Infinity 2.0 we stayed up alll night before the first day of school and played with thor and ironman. IF they ever brought this game back I would spend so much money on characters now that I'm older and have money.
I adored this game, my sister and I played it so much. We were so sad when one day we realized they weren’t releasing anything else and were shutting things down.
@Darren-lb3rx age just a number man , I was making this video and kinda enjoyed playing it. Get the steam version of it and chillax on it whenever and enjoy living with the characters you grew up with.
I really wish that Skylanders and Lego Dimensions could get a release in the same vein as the Steam release of Disney Infinity. If you buy Disney Infinity on Steam today, you can get all 3 games with all the content released for them(minus a small chunk of Disney Infinity 3.0, I think anything released after The Force Awakens playset, but that is still a ton of content imo) and from a preservation standpoint, that is GENUIS!! I mean if you wanna revisit Skylanders with all of its content, you have to have a console it was on, the portal for that game, and the figures for that game. If you want to play LEGO Dimensions you need to do the same AND pray the NFC tags still work because a lot of mine from my childhood just don’t work anymore. It’s nice that Disney Infinity is pretty much entirely archived if you have a Steam account
Dude I remember playing the Toybox version with my brother. We were always doing this fun thing where we used the deleting block using the wand and basically try and stay alive as long as before and not fall off the castle. Man, the memories.
Man I used the play the first one with my old best friend all the time. I lost touch with her but this video really brings back my memories with her. We played the Toy Story level so much I don’t even remember playing any of the other ones.
They should’ve had more characters if they weren’t so thoughtless. Including Zurg Bo peep Frozone Flik Hopper Roger rabbit Jessica rabbit Yokai Gogo Fredzilla Honey lemon Wasabi Dr facilier Naveen Tiana Darkwing Duck Goliath Gadget hachwrench Beast Gaston Peter Pan Captain Hook Hercules Hades Jafar
Yeah imma say it now Disney infinity walked so their new endeavour could run. My thinking is they were testing out something they have been planning for years and just wanted accurate figures to make sure that their final product meets the conditions THEY set for it.
Imagine, if you will, Disney Infinity 3.0: Gold Edition was ported to consoles. All characters unlocked, all play sets available, everything built in. The steam version lacks multiplayer and some post-launch content, so that can be added back in. I think it'd be a decent commercial success.
Dude, I remember playing the Toy Story 3 game on the PS3 and later Disney Infinity on the Xbox 360, and I was shocked at how both games shared developers. It felt awesome to know those two great games were made by the same companies. They use similar assets and sounds.
I remember as a kid I so badly wanted to play the game without even knowing what it was like, but for a long time I didn't have the game pad or any characters. When I did finally get the game pad alongside Elsa, the game still gave me errors no matter what I tried doing so I never ended up actually playing it.
I still play this game and it was my favourite when I was younger. I remember trying to go into the arcade in the toy box hub but it didn’t work, at first I thought it was a glitch but when I went on Google I saw something about the game shutting down and that’s how I found out. I still introduce younger family members to it and they kind of like it. I wish they would have at least released 4.0 before the cancellation it sounded like it was going to be really good.
I was addicted to this game from late 2014 until mid 2017 and then I still played on and off until late 2019. I remember I was 11 when the I found out the game was going to be cancelled. I was so distraught, I am so happy that I was able to experience the game at its peak. I only look back with fond memories.
AHSOKA AND IRON FIST WERE EVERYTHING😭😭 I loved this game 10x more than skylanders it was everything all these fun and fresh characters with disney, marvel, and star wars in one game was so amazing to see back then I remember when 4.0 was talked about it was supposed to be x men themed I miss it they need to bring it back
Dude I loved this game I wouldn’t play any of the real story mode missions I would literally just fuck around with my sister on the game and go to random locations but I remember we did this one Star Wars mission and we could never beat it😂
I was in the toy box all the time and played those games where it had the dispenser and different capsules did different things like change the background or add enemies and characters Sadly the toy box hub doesn’t change backgrounds when you enter the different sections like it used to like brave to star wars to nightmare before Christmas Sad that since the online feature isn’t there anymore they got rid of the trivia in the INterior Favorite part was always throwing the little npcs off the map and watch them go down in a little parachute 😭

@machincort this video is not edited by me , it's my editors so I never got to see where he got the videos from hence why it's not credited. And I already apologized for not crediting and that from next video forth I will be doing so.
I got 1.0 for my bday and luckily school was close that day so I was at my granny’s house playing it. I know I got 2.0 a year late for Christmas since my uncle bought me and my cousin the bundle ps3 with it. I enjoyed it so much. I didn’t know there was a problem playing different characters in story worlds so that’s new information for me.
What I remember most about this game were the power disks. They were supposed to be blind packs, but the "rare" ones all had a holographic picture on the, so you could tell which blind packs had a rare in them just by scratching the package and feel it
Since its launch, the game accompanied me during the Wii U era. My brother and I originally agreed to only collect two figurines per Playset (albeit Lone Ranger only had two characters) and it was like that until we traveled to Orlando, when the game became my obsession. We both were into Skylanders back in the day as well, so our money went off our savings when we saw the characters we wanted. Except, I, with Disney Infinity... kind of became a perfectionist, and proposed to collect all the Playset figures I could. I never completed the Incredibles playset, the three Marvel ones (four if the one from 3.0 is included), or Rise Against the Empire (never got Han Solo), but I still put a lot of money into the franchise. I felt I threw away all of the money spent when I learned the franchise got cancelled before 2017; thus, would never find its way to Switch (albeit Skylanders Imaginators had a port in there and the figures worked by scanning them on the controllers' points, much like amiibo; right JoyCon and Switch logo in the Pro Controller). By 2023, I got rid of the figures I had preserved, because they would never find use ever again, and I no longer felt anything about them; not even a speck of melancholy, considering one of the characters I held onto was Sadness. Despite everything, I still wonder what could've been of the game to this date, now that we have more films/universes and extended franchises; I can't stop imagining Coco, Encanto, Luca, or the new emotions from Inside Out 2, in the Disney Infinity style. (But now that Disney owns more companies, it would've probably been a bigger mess.) One thing I'll never understand is how and why Tonto was my go-to character for most, if not all, my Toy Box adventures. I never saw the film, nor did I see the original Lone Ranger show, so I didn't (still don't) have context of the character. What could have been in him that wasn't in the characters I know about...?
Honestly an amazing video. Made me remember just how much I loved this game. Never knew they were already working on the 4th that makes me so sad to know what we could have had :(
I have all infinity games, my favorite one was the 3.0, I just loved the star wars section and the inside out one too u know what I loved everything about it, it makes me so sad that those days will never come back but i had so much fun playing it with my brother and getting new characters on Christmas, it was so amazing.
Aw man, I remembered always wanting to play Disney infinity when the first game came out but I didn’t have a console to play it on (well other than my 3ds but I heard that version was not as good LOL), that was until quite a few years later when someone gave me their old xbox 360. Disney infinity 3.0 was one of the first games I bought for it. It really was one of those games that got me into gaming, and I still have the game and a lot of the Star Wars figures now. Thanks for making this video, it’s really nice to hear people still talk about these games
This game was everything to me as a kid. I played it with family, friends, by myself; I remember even writing about it in my diary. I recently moved and found my old figures, and played a bit of each edition with my fiancè just for the nostalgia. I still had the old sandbox worlds that I had made saved on my xbox, along with over 250 hours of playtime (just on the original). Some of the worlds still hold up pretty well, but it's such a shame to think of what it could've been if given some more attention
My wife bought the Wii U right at launch and wrapped it up for Christmas. Throughout 2013, I remember playing a lot of Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U, and waiting for some blockbuster games to be released that would justify the new Wii console. That summer at Wal-Mart, I would hear the trailer music for Disney Infinity looping in the Electronics section, and I thought that even if it was a third-party cross-platform game, it would give the Wii U a little bit of a boost. My wife and I never really got into Disney Infinity before it died, but we got started with 2.0 and downloaded 1.0 for free, and we collected a few figures that we liked. I'm glad Tron was added to 3.0, but it needed more characters.
I was the Game Director for four different Disney Infinity playsets: (Lone Ranger, Avengers, Inside Out, and Finding Dory) and I very much appreciate this video.

Man i had this game for the WiiU and it was a blast. I remember going into the Walmart and there being a whole section dedicated to Disney infinity
oh man that would be the dream as a kid
@@spideyfan6441 the memories I made with my brother on Disney infinity were so pure. I wish I could go back to the maps we once made together

I wish they would’ve let you use different characters in other play sets I think if that was possible it may have lasted longer
Agreed
My favourite video game of all time. They should have released 4.0 and said it was the last one and at least let us fans still play online.
@@ivanodosreis4921 we never got greatness
I started buying this for my youngest when he was 2, just to get him into gaming as he grew up. Once he could play, we played this together all the time. Both Story and Toybox.
I used to go to Downtown Disney damn near every weekend to get new released characters. I still have all the discs and multiple carrying cases full of the physical character statutes.
@squishymcsquisherson that is the most wholesome story ever. Do you still have the collection ?
@@britishbattleborn that's what skylanders did though , you could use old ones in new games

the introduction to the gaming world
I remember me and my big brother got Disney 1.0 and played it every single day and would run to the isle in the store with all the disney infinity characters and skylanders and would dream about having every character. This truely was the greatest gaming era in the history of video games in my opinion. When we got Disney Infinity 2.0 we stayed up alll night before the first day of school and played with thor and ironman. IF they ever brought this game back I would spend so much money on characters now that I'm older and have money.
me and my brother used to play it all the time
Ah the perfect storm.
I remember seeing this happening and being reminded of the rise and fall of Guitar Hero.
I recently bought 3.0 Gold Edition on Steam, and this game still holds up to this day.

11:00 infinity was popular, but it definitely didnt popularize the toys to life genre. That crown belongs to skylanders.
A lot of skylander fans here
Dude I remember playing the Toybox version with my brother. We were always doing this fun thing where we used the deleting block using the wand and basically try and stay alive as long as before and not fall off the castle. Man, the memories.

Disney Infinite had so much potential. If it wasn’t discontinued it would still be a huge thing.

I think it'd be a decent commercial success.
i just remember being incredibly lost in the lobby just walking around as darth vader

(But now that Disney owns more companies, it would've probably been a bigger mess.)
One thing I'll never understand is how and why Tonto was my go-to character for most, if not all, my Toy Box adventures. I never saw the film, nor did I see the original Lone Ranger show, so I didn't (still don't) have context of the character. What could have been in him that wasn't in the characters I know about...?

This game was everything to me as a kid. I played it with family, friends, by myself; I remember even writing about it in my diary.
