DOWNLOAD DRAGON CITY HERE! - spons.org/jelloapocalypse The most fun part of this was coming up with unique Gyms for this region. We ended up cutting a bit about a "Gen 1" Gym where all the mechanics swap back to Gen 1 rules, but only when you're inside the Gym. That means psychic has no weaknesses, speed determines critical hits, and the back-lighting on the console turns off. In the middle of the battle your mom comes in and tells you to stop playing and you have to explain to her you can't turn the game off in the middle of a trainer battle. What gyms would YOU make?
I would have a mixed gym of fire and water where are you have to decide whether you're going to fight the fire on the water or at the same time or something like that
Maybe the gym challenge for that (if they copy sword and shield) involves making the daughter like you (bribing with sweets, playing hide and seek, etc). If she likes you more, during the fight she throws bonuses or berries your way like the Fairy Gym, but if you don't she throws the bonuses to her grandpa and makes the fight a bit tougher.
So, that means Flannery's Gym in the Hoenn Reigion? Or you mean the old man is still the gym leader but he's teaching his granddaughter on how to be a gym leader when she takes over?
@@kyoreos4790 the second one, and I want the grand daughter to be really young. Maybe if the after game has people challenge you for your title she'll show up but it'll be like 5 years later and she'll be super strong.

@@dylanmaguire3595 I agree. Honestly I've always wanted a game where you're only a straight up peasant. You're not a noble, none of your friends are magic chosen nobles, you're just an army of normal people, maybe your antagonist is the chosen one who's become corrupted. Also I like an idea of you recruiting almost only villager classes that you get to train up, and there's a flow of side chapters to level them up. Idk that might be tedious.
Given the water, fire, grass motif of each of them, Professor Redwood would be the Fire professor, water would be Professor Palm, and grass maybe Professor Cedar?
I don't know why but I really want the bad guys to rhythmically snap when they're about to appear. Like you're in the middle of a shopping trip and the you just hear Snap.. snap.. snap And you know somethings about to go down
And (potentially) maybe scarlet and violet bc oh my god I want that gym order progression system so badly and the fact that pokecenters and presumably gym arenas are open with no doors or ceilings makes really hope jellos ideas that got gotten in legends arceus stay and some other things like previously said gym order progression system so very much Edit: holy shit they added shroomish
"Fire themed area, a Water one and a Grass one" "The region is split into four different areas, I'm gonna call 'em counties." Long ago, the four counties lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Trainer attacked.
On the extra 2 badges idea, i think it would be cool if you could use them to get good items/Pokémon. For example, a trainer is blocking a cave with an additional friendship bracelet and will only let you through if you have the 10th badge. It would provide an incentive to get the extra badges and reward the extra effort for getting it.
I think the old man would be cranky talking about how he hated the new loud music, and wishes he could be soundproof like the whismer that live at blah blah to give you a hint.
Maybe that could also lead to a side quest where if you fight the leader you could get a badge form both of them, But the badge he gives you is a fake copy made out of sticks and leaves The conversation could go something like this: Old man Cranky: “Here you go kid you earned it!” *you have received stick badge* Player: “uhh.. this isn’t uh-“ Old man Cranky: “W-WHAAA!?!? Are you going to tell me my badge is fake! Kids these days…” Player: “n-no! Uhh thank you! Thank you! I appreciate it” Old man cranky: “heheh I was just joking kid! Thanks for the help!” *stick quest completed*
This also could be a really good place for one of the research quests to have a effect By stdying the wismer and its ability to soundproof you could give him a device that did the same. After that he could give you a item, a pokemon or even the possibility of just straight up handing you the badge. It would be really cool
"Wow these recent Pokemon Games have been really linear." >Sword and Shield revealed >region is literally a straight line from the starting town to the league
I’ve got a better idea. The Professor sends them out as an Assistant to help give you items and stuff from time to time. They give you rewards for capturing certain numbers of Pokémon and maybe they even give you the game-typical Pokémon Egg. You start to see this person as reliable, but secretly they’ve been keeping tabs on you for the Evil Team and they betray you at a certain point. Maybe they even help steal some of the Professor’s research to give to Team Mafia. They can even maybe catch the other Box Legendary and start wreaking havoc, leading to you seeking to catch the Box Legendary to stop them.
@@Doomzdehat first I thought it was kinda lame but also made sense logically to make them the professor's assistant, but making them both the professor's assistant and part of "team bad guy" would actually be SO COOL
The “bud” that you take the place of could be your actual rival, where they’re mad the professor chose you over them, and they wanna prove to the professor that they’re better.
Oliver TWIST good idea, but I also feel like it hurts the character development when you’re the type to play all the games, considering you’d have alternate versions of characters where they’re either quirky and nice or mean assholes, that is if you’re following the design he said he wanted where there were both rival types from previous games
What if instead of them being the rival, they would act as Sonia does in Gen 8. Talking to you along the way and giving you items that are essential to progress. Story wise they could also be like Sonia. They act as the professors assistant in the lab. This could make them more important to the story, without making them an asshole, nor making them another bud
@@FishDrinkLightGreen oooooorrrr they could be your like childhode friend insted. Idk why its just my silly opinion(oh and btw i cant spell that good just so u know)
Let's admit catching 900+ pokemon was a chore. I got friends that completed the national pokedex. 70% was them moving pokemon from the previous version, 20% was luck in wonder trade, and 10% was them actually playing the version. As long as you can catch all the pokemon in their versions, I'm fine with that (I wish ALL the pokemon would be available, not trade to get exclusive pokemon or event exclusive legendaries).
Yeah, it isn't really 'catching them all' if all you're doing is transfering your pokemon from a previous gen up, or getting them all off wondertrade. A lot of Jello's critiques about trading are fair. Trading in 1998 is a lot different from 2018. The internet exists. You don't have to scour the playground for friends who actually have the game, much less the pokemon you need, AND are willing to trade it. Hell, I can hop on my game right now and within 10 minutes find a shiny Arceus. It's probably not legit, but it still counts for the game's pokedex, so doesn't really matter? And the typing in gyms is a little overdone, especially when some types are overshown (Fire, rock, water) and others barely get any or have none at all (dark). Exploring different battle mechanics like attraction, status, sound, is a brilliant idea.
They made that motto back when there were only 151 Pokemon. I doubt they ever expected their franchise to explode the way it did. Hell, I think I remember somewhere that Gamefreak said Gold/Silver was planned to be the last Pokemon game ever. If they knew what was going to happen with their franchise, I really doubt they would've kept the same motto.
Going off the Mafia themed bad guys- Each region could have their own type of mafia bad guys (Italian, Yakuza, Cartel) and as the plot moves forward you learn that they're all interconnected and there's one main boss.
and our main bad rival starts out as a tryhard using mafia themed pokemon like the crow but as the game progresses he builds a team based on the times you beat him
The leader is Jerks dad and he isnt a dick to his kid but he wants him to "abandon his silly dreams of becoming champion and take over the family business" but when Jerk is champion hes super proud. His main pokemon would be a Kricketune, a Conkeldurr, a Honchkrow and a Weavile. Then a new cool guard dog pokemon's
@@NotActuallyCreative They actually did it everywhere: Red, Blue, Yellow. Gold, Silver, Crystal. Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald... If you are going to miss the sarcasm, at least don't miss the mark, lol.
Jello came up with Gym Level Scaling years ago and we aren’t even sure if Scarlet and Violet is going to have it despite the fact that they’re *fully* open world LOL
This game concept doesn't have scaling though, it's got areas that are higher levelled than you depending on where you start, there's still a path depending if you start in the fire, grass or water area based on your version.
In regards to the 3rd thesis: befriending your pokemon: instead of using the friendship stuff to make your pokes buff, tie it into the "pokemon listening to you" mechanic. Like, instead of requiring a gym badge in order for a pokemon at lvl x or higher to use the moves YOU tell them to use instead of your lvl 50 starter just saying "screw you, I do what I want because you don't have 7 badges," make it like it is in the anime, where you have to care for your pokemon like they're actual virtual pets. This means playing with them regularly, feeding them, and making sure they are healthy (i.e. keeping their health out of the red zone, reviving them as soon as possible, and removing status effects. Apply this mainly as an "outside of combat" mechanic). I feel this would make the whole "respect" mechanic a lot more prevalent and relevant to the spirit of the game... Good god, I'm sounding exactly like jello...
About all that "keeping them healthy" stuff, that'd be easy for me, aka a guy that literally goes to the pokecenter whenever my pokemon's health is lower than green.
I would like to hear Jello's thoughts on the latest announcements of pokemon scarlet and violet. I literally was watching it and thinking "what would Jello say to this?" So many times.
Same I just heard the "choose you very own path through the gyms" and I was like "hey haven't I see that before? " then it click and holy shit was I excited

@@natashamunro8748 It might be a better idea to pitch this to The Pokemon Company and advertise it as a kind of spin-off. Game Freak could not do it justice.
I've been working on a region that features disabled gym leaders and shows off non combat uses for pokemon. Like one of the leaders is a horse therapy themed one. You go to her ranch and see all the different horse themed pokemon and she fights you with a team of them. Stuff like that. There's always a fine line between escapism and wanting to feel represented in rpgs and there's like no disability rep in pokemon. You could even lean into Red being canonicaly mute, and have him around.
I think it'd be really cool if at one point, if you lost a battle to a super hard mafia member, you'd lose one party member to them before blacking out. Then, other NPCs would direct you in the right direction to get back your pokemon through an extra encounter. And *maybe,* if we wanted to go a bit extra with this idea, we could have that pokemon _actually be assimilated into one of the mafia member's parties if you're too late,_ leveling up and eventually fighting against you later in the game (maybe as part of the a**hole rival team?). Granted, it should probably only take your lowest level pokemon in your party, and this would probably be a bad idea for many other reasons, but I think it would give players a real incentive to get revenge, and integrate them more into the story.
this is how i feel about seeing all of the 3d sonic fan engines and games like the bumper engine and sonic utopia knowing that sonic team will never ever do that
Somebody mentioned they became a Pokémon breeder because of IVs and that made me think up the idea of like ‘Oh, what if you could get little part time job sort of quest so you could gain titles like ‘breeder’ or ‘bug catcher’ and unlock special clothing and boost from gaining those.’
In all honesty all I want in a major Pokemon game is the ability to be anything else but a standard trainer. Like I wanna be a Daycare Lady but like actually make sure your horny Lv. 5 Eevee doesn't knock up a Ditto. If you want that to happen it and bonuses are extra so I'd be running a whorehouse day care, it ain't much but it's honest work.
It's not like, perfect, but given how much more positively received S/V and legends arceus have been with a bunch of features like these with similar ideas, I dont doubt that they might finally have figured out how they can move forward instead of... new gimmick but nothing else
@@effluxi9587 yeah, i was really disappointed that the gym leader levels in SV are completely static instead of changing based on how many badges you have. sure, there's other things to do in the game that mean there's not as much pressure to just beat the gyms in order asap, but it still blows. hopefully the next entry in the series fixes this, i say, knowing they'll probably go back to the classic formula because of how broken open-world gameplay ends up with all the crunch involved in the pokemon series
@orangejuice782 it's doubly stupid because the anime has implied it for years. It's also heavily implied there being a whole host of gyms in places that we just never see.
I stand by they are the best team in the whole series just because of how fun they are. The first time you meet them they are literally robbing an old man, and the old man tells you not to worry about it because he can take them.
It'd be interesting to have an eeveelution gym: They just really like eevee and have a bunch of eeveelutions. Also a starter gym: A hardcore "past player character" who uses a team of starter pokemon from other gens from his many adventures.
Oh oh! Another part to the eeveelution gym, is that it also works as half a research center or a lab for people who are interested in the process, history, semantics and or ways that a pokemon could evolve/change. And Eevees being a well-rounded pokemon with a seemingly infinite chances of evolving into something else would be the perfect pokemon to be tested on. Of course there isn't only Eevees in there, there are other Pokemons but the more artistic or experimental trainers would usually have an Eevee or more in their team

"I'm not trying to make the best pokemon game" And then you make the best pokemon game. (though I'm one of those nostalgic fools who love when the story gets fakedeep and absurd so I would miss it if there wasn't something like that in a game)
How does one "buy the shit" out of something? You grab the item, bring it to the cashier while walking intensely and go: "I want to buy this so hard. Take this motherfucking money and pass it through the reader!" and then slam the money on the counter?
One thing that could be cool with this concept is give each town a field they excel at that the others don’t. Maybe the fire village has great technology, the grass village has great medicine and the water village has great transportation. Then you need all 3 specialties to get to the central area and make part of the “theme” that anything can be achieved if we all work together.
After going through my game design education, I can say that Jello uses actual philosophies and practices that game designers utilize when making games.
With the evil team, i think it would make them more of a threat if they somehow managed to steal one of YOUR pokemon at some point during the game, because then its PERSONAL. Then you have to find one of their hideouts by gathering clues, and eventually get it back. Could work well with motivation to take them down.
I love the idea of the rival in Team Badguy, largely because of the aesthetic and the scaling idea you presented. Maybe he starts off with "Team Badguy Grunt [Jerkface]" as his trainer name, but as time goes on he gets a different title, like "Team Badguy Caporegime [Jerkface]" or "Team Badguy Consigiliere [Jerkface]" until in the endgame you get "Team Badguy Boss [Jerkface]". I just like the way that you can add these details by just changing the trainer type after each encounter.
How about 3 different games but also a 4th game that’s more expensive but gives you the option to play the game in any of the three ways with multiple save files?
"i'd like to see gym leaders with less focus on specific types and more on certain mechanics, like sound or weather!" raihan: this looks like a job for me
The problem is, all the gyms in Sword and Shield are so easy, i didnt even realise Raihan wasnt just some dragon type leader. My sister had to tell me why the trainers had non-dragon types, and the gym just felt like some random short battles and just really underwhelming. But this is just my experience, i still really liked this game.
I just want to say, this video motivated me to make a Pokemon game in the open-world style. I've been working on it for like half a year now and it's been going very very smooth. I have over 40 new Mega Pokemon in it, close to 100 new Pokemon (that are just new forms), new battle gimmicks, moves, abilities etc. And I've also laid out a good portion of the Story. Overall, making it has been a blast so far and I can't wait for me to complete it for other people to play.
I would love a villain team where they’re like “Old-Timey” bad guys and they use top hats, and sell fake medications and tying Pokémon to the train tracks. Also, scrap Pokémon that evolve with trading.
Or there could be a character called something like "the indecisive trader" and you can trade pokemon to him and back and mabye they level up very slowly if you leave them for a long time, so a discount daycare

peiceofcheese87 not really. You’d always get the haters. The mafia teams it’s just team rocket again. The three starter areas idea is imbalance cause the grass area has dragons, ect. And the gym theme stuff will get tired with how easy they can be cheesed vs a type gym since even in this video he brings up how dumb it is the ground Pokémon can just win at an electric gym, when we had a gym leader with two flying electric types and access to one with levitate so that the only thing the ground type did was make it impossible to show off the main strategy and said ground has to use Rock attacks to win, meaning you need full knowledge of the Pokémon you will encounter and proper team balance to cheese her fight in the first place
Judging by Dead Rising 4 one thing that has been developing in videogames is the proliferation of bad game design as "good game design". This is why the Quests in Dead Rising 1 were superior to the 4th... in spite of the fact that the writing team for the first was by pure amateurs and the writing team for the 4th was by "Industry professionals specializing in creating stories that are structured in game mechanics".
ASquared I think scaling would take huge amounts of time, especially because the devs don’t know where the player is going to go. It’s why no-ones made an open world Pokemon, if you have an area that’s huge and filled to the brim with high levels, no-one will have fun, especially if you put a Pokemon centre smack dab in the middle.
Supermushroom 12 no Gen 1 and 2 did give it but the result was a problem to players Like you technically can skip misty to do bill, the saint Ann and Diglet cave, and no Pokémon was over 20 in the wild until you did beat her and used cut to get further in the game, then the cut off was the late 20s to mid 30s since Koga was needed to go further. This meant until victory road in both games you at best encountered wild Pokémon in the early 30s, something that doesn’t give much exp to your level 40 Pokémon who need to get to level 50+ to be on the elite four level. Same can be true here but of course it makes grinding annoying as hell unless you stick with one team since the trainers can give just enough exp that even the slow leveling Pokémon can be at 50 before you fight the league
I really like the idea that the magikarp guy is the same guy in every region. I’d like to think that they made him tricky to find, that way people would try to make an attempt to find him
@@emmie1973 I think you mean the premise is great. They absolutely butchered the execution. They make the team abuse way too many pokemon to merit any type of sympathy after the first encounter, their dialogue is also normally only so-so. And it does just devolve again at the end into "we have the legendary so we will shape the world." It would need a total rewrite but keep the same foundation. To mention something here the game has the best story for a mainline Pokemon game. But the writing is still utterly trash compared to probably 90% of RPGs that came out within the same decade that were above shovel-ware level.
@@emmie1973 I personally think that those are interesting stories but they need to be sparse in Pokemon. Every game has something like that but it is always environmental story-telling (the only thing Pokemon could do well for story.) But the thing is it isn't that every character needs an arc or even any character needs a strong arc for it to be a good story for a game (mind you I prefer games with lots of story and dialogue along some quest with higher and higher stakes.) Pokemon would be most at home light-hearted story or atmosphere most. But with something like B/W story premise it would have to be more serious. It is more reasonable for the story premise to be something like a series of mini-stories like how certain games have sepearate worlds but in this case towns. So in one town there would be a mystery of stolen gym badges and then you find out the gym leader forgot them in their bedroom or something after doing a whole investigation. And then you visit the next town and nearby Pokemon are rampaging every night for some inexplicable reason. And then you find out some kids are going out and playing some really awful music (and then they take the current music and change it to the original Gboy level of sound quality) so you get them music lessons. A bunch of funny mini-adventures makes sense and you just have 2 rivals along the way, but both have actual philosophies behind battling. Pull another N and have one try to not limit their Pokemon's freedom and changes their team every gym, and the other rival would be a someone who wants to learn the value of each type so becomes a Mono trainer and switches types every time they face you (but it would randomize the type and always have one dual type that helps the weak matchup.) That is something that mechanically helps Pokemon, leaves room for your adventure, and keeps the tone light-hearted. For B/W you would have to go show people training pokemon really harshley (like forcing a Sandshrew to dive into water repeatedly) and you would show people treating their Pokemon like pets even though the Pokemon seems to really want to train. And other times Pokemon and people work together well, firefighters use water Pokemon to save the forest from fires but Plasma forces those Pokemon free and they get separated in the forest during a fire. Make it so Team Plasma isn't really evil but really extreme, they steal and release Pokemon and blow up Pokeball factories. Maybe they kidnap Bill to try and mess with the PC. But certain Pokemon come back to trainers even after they were stolen and released (maybe make your own Starter Pokemon do that.) That way you build sympathy for their cause but see that they are doing more harm than good. Team Plasma's motives doesn't work if they also beat up baby Pokemon and want to create a new-world order with a legendary.
That never happens, not when you need to have every version, or friends to trade with. The 2 or 3 versions thing is what I feel holds the game back a bit.
@@MrFelblood So in other words pirate the game and gamefreak doesn't get a penny? Sounds like the game has a flaw if emulation is better than buying the actual game.
I think you missed an opportunity with the legendary pokémon. to make the world come to life a bit more maybe some areas of the counties will have NPCs talking about mythical pokémon encounters, and the cities in those areas will have shrines dedicated to those pokémon. or have a research quest integrate a pokémon by having the player look into how they do this or that, etc. the legendaries don’t have to be super powerful, but they could contribute a lot towards world building if you include them around the map and weave them into the dialogue of different areas.
Breath of the Wild did this with the Master Sword. NPC's will mention it and give you clues, but you have to find it on your own, and you don't need it to finish the game. It is, however, super powerful :/
Or make them more of an Urban legend or even an experiment failed or successful like they were in the 1st gen when they didn't feel like GODS that created the world, but they were the rumored super rare specie or the crazy experiment.
I’m imagining this ruinic town where there’s a temple, and in postgame, when you interact with a statue in the temple, a level 80-100 alien-like deity Pokémon with an item, really good coverage moves, a stat boost, and super good AI, a lot like Ultra Necrozma, and you get destroyed.

after you first beat the game you get an option to decline the mission to fight the gym leader and they get salty and fight you at a level above the normal.
The phrase it'self is something from the anime localization only. The IDEA of it is being encouraged to complete the Pokedex, which you can do within the new games. They push this a little further by having so many things appear in the overworld.

The idea of earning a badge outside of fighting a gym leader sounds like a cool change of pace, the only thing I would change is have the trigger be based on what pokemon you have or what moves they can use. Say you run into Jello's firefighter gym leader while he and his crew are dealing with a house fire. If you have say three pokemon that know any high power water moves you help contain the fire and earn the badge as a sort of metal of honor.

The "can't change the nickname" thing is one of the features more decidedly based on Japanese culture rather than anything that would affect gameplay. It's considered extremely tasteless and crass to alter something that was given to you as a gift, because it implies either the person who gifted it doesn't know you well enough (a huge insult) or didn't give you something good enough (even bigger insult). So the game prevents changing nicknames to enforce cultural expectations and prevent bullying.
This is actually the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Like I get the gift thing in Japanese culture, that’s fine. But now that we can trade Pokémon online they’re not really a gift anymore? This makes no sense.
I mean, sure, that makes sense in Japanese culture, but I don't think it's that deep. Especially when half the time, you get Pokemon that are nicknamed in a language you can't read. Or you get Pokemon that are just named "Butt" or something because this is a kids game. I just want to name my Pikachu "a rat is a gun" okay??
@@MetaNiteFM A gift to them is anything you receive from anyone, even a stranger, even in exchange for something else. Yet somehow you are supposed to accept the gift as-is because a complete stranger might feel bad of you don't like it.
I think legendaries should be like botw’s dragons. You see them every now and then, and the locals creates legends about them. They would be, if not impossible, THE hardest thing to catch.
Hardest thing to catch not just because they have a low catch rate, but because catching them is not just a matter of widdling them down like other monsters or being in the right place at the right time/with the right item. Make meeting and acquiring the legend and myth NPCs have mentioned briefly all game something special but not just because you’re the player character.
@@pokechatter I like the idea of hiding it behind a few side-quests that seem useless like in botw where one of the shrines requires you to complete 3 mundane side-quests about catching someones chickens or giving someone butterflies, and then WHAM shrine quest!
I think the legendary or legendaries should require you to complete all of the side quests and you see the player truely happy that they helped so many people. Then people in your starting town are panicking because the rival that was/is champion had one more plan which is to release the legendary pokemon. This legendary pokemon reeks havoc on the town destroying houses but when almost all all hope is lost you the player save the day by defeating or catching this pokemon. After that people thank you but now you need to help repair the damage that was done to your starting town. Once that is done you the player can defeat any gyms you did not defeat and do more side quests because after you rebuilt the town there are new needs too.
I feel like the inclusion of legendaries could work if say, after you beat the game a part of the map will change due to a legendary and you CAN go catch it but you dont *have* to
I kind of liked the thing they had I. Ruby/Sapphire where certain areas had just constant weather effects both in and out of battle until you went to face the legendaries. There needs to be some kind of incentive to go looking for them. Like say there's a Poison-themed legendary and every time you enter a battle in that area your lead Pokemon gets instantly poisoned. Then all the townsfolk complain about needing to stay indoors or they'll get sick. But since this is near the endgame the player will be able to easily afford restoration items. That scenario's a little extreme, but it demonstrates a situation that might get the players attention while still not being more than a mild inconvenience.

The most fun part of this was coming up with unique Gyms for this region.

I would have a mixed gym of fire and water where are you have to decide whether you're going to fight the fire on the water or at the same time or something like that
Idea for baby gym: the gym leader is technically this old trainer but they are helping teach their granddaughter learn how to be a gym leader

On the extra 2 badges idea, i think it would be cool if you could use them to get good items/Pokémon. For example, a trainer is blocking a cave with an additional friendship bracelet and will only let you through if you have the 10th badge. It would provide an incentive to get the extra badges and reward the extra effort for getting it.

I was thinking the same thing
I think the old man would be cranky talking about how he hated the new loud music, and wishes he could be soundproof like the whismer that live at blah blah to give you a hint.
Maybe that could also lead to a side quest where if you fight the leader you could get a badge form both of them,
But the badge he gives you is a fake copy made out of sticks and leaves
The conversation could go something like this:
Old man Cranky: “Here you go kid you earned it!”
*you have received stick badge*
Player: “uhh.. this isn’t uh-“
Old man Cranky: “W-WHAAA!?!? Are you going to tell me my badge is fake! Kids these days…”

Old man cranky: “heheh I was just joking kid! Thanks for the help!”
*stick quest completed*
fr tho someone gotta make a rom hack with randomly generated quests and maps + open world
This also could be a really good place for one of the research quests to have a effect
By stdying the wismer and its ability to soundproof you could give him a device that did the same.
After that he could give you a item, a pokemon or even the possibility of just straight up handing you the badge.

Idea for the buddy from your own town: they end up being jerk rival from team bad guy bc they're mad the professor didn't give them a starter
I am in full agreement with MarshMalloFluff. Great Idea that I would love to see, but might not work so well in the actual story

Jello: 1st Thesis of a Pokémon game is that You Gotta Catch em’ All
Gamefreak: Yeah about that
Let's admit catching 900+ pokemon was a chore.

And Eevees being a well-rounded pokemon with a seemingly infinite chances of evolving into something else would be the perfect pokemon to be tested on.
I love how Team Bad Guy sounds like Team Skull got really competent and became a Famiglia.

Francisco Van Assenderp Saraleguy
And most of the time they don’t give it back, it only works if you’re close to the person you’re trading with
Or there's a trade stone / lv 60 evolution cap
Or there could be a character called something like "the indecisive trader" and you can trade pokemon to him and back and mabye they level up very slowly if you leave them for a long time, so a discount daycare

Yeah, that’s awesome!

Yeah, I'm surprised with how thorough and well thought out this is. If this was a real game it would be the best pokemon game by far.
peiceofcheese87 not really.
Supermushroom 12 no Gen 1 and 2 did give it but the result was a problem to players
Like you technically can skip misty to do bill, the saint Ann and Diglet cave, and no Pokémon was over 20 in the wild until you did beat her and used cut to get further in the game, then the cut off was the late 20s to mid 30s since Koga was needed to go further.

@@emmie1973 Needs some better writing though, and a different setting imo.
Every game has something like that but it is always environmental story-telling (the only thing Pokemon could do well for story.) But the thing is it isn't that every character needs an arc or even any character needs a strong arc for it to be a good story for a game (mind you I prefer games with lots of story and dialogue along some quest with higher and higher stakes.)
Pokemon would be most at home light-hearted story or atmosphere most.

The idea of earning a badge outside of fighting a gym leader sounds like a cool change of pace, the only thing I would change is have the trigger be based on what pokemon you have or what moves they can use. Say you run into Jello's firefighter gym leader while he and his crew are dealing with a house fire. If you have say three pokemon that know any high power water moves you help contain the fire and earn the badge as a sort of metal of honor.

ya yeet ah yes a true man of culture
So, bullyes are the only reason i could not have renicknamed that shiny decidueye?
That’s actually really cool!

Legendaries are the most overrated Pokémon in history, I could literally take down 6 Legendaries with only a Gardevoir and Shadow Ball if I wanted to
This 100% predicted Legends Arceus, not all of it but a lot of the concepts are familiar.
I think legendaries should be like botw’s dragons. You see them every now and then, and the locals creates legends about them. They would be, if not impossible, THE hardest thing to catch.
They really need to go back to optional legendaries. There is nothing special about a pokemon that every player is all but guaranteed to catch.
There are dragons in botw
Is this... an actual good concept!?!?!
Ok jello, here’s my money
I feel like the inclusion of legendaries could work if say, after you beat the game a part of the map will change due to a legendary and you CAN go catch it but you dont *have* to
kinda happened in emerald? Random caves would open when you stop groudon and kyogre, and rayquaza destroyed his tower
