    I've been in Dallas for 13 years now, the eye is actually the result of a dispute between the property owner and the city over permits. They wanted to make it a business or something but the city refused to grant any permits so they "got back" at the city by placing the eye there as an eyesore to troll the city.

    I was also in the 2nd grade at Waxahachie ISD during the JFK assassination. We were all brought to a particular teacher's classroom as a large group and our school principal announced it over the intercom. We were soon loaded on our busses to go home where we watched everything on TV. Even at seven years old I remember the surreal feelings of national trauma. It didn't matter what age you were - we were all feeling the same thing.

    The red Pegasus horse statue looks like the old symbol for Mobil oil. Which makes sense considering how much oil is part of the Texas economy. Always fun seeing you and your pops having adventures together. Thanks for posting

    We did 24hrs in Dallas back in 2017. Stayed at the OMNI and did the 6th Floor Museum. I gotta say that Dealey Plaza did have a really strange vibe about it. Kinda like a time capsule.

    You covered many interesting places. Dallas has a LOT to see so you could not have possibly covered it in that length of time. Dallas also has some of the best variety of amazing restaurants in Texas. (It ranks pretty high in national rankings that I’ve read.) A couple more places that I love there are the Dallas Arboretum and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

    The owner of the Joule Hotel wanted to build a parking garage for the guest. However, the city did not allow because they have building codes. The city said a parking garage there would be an “eyesore “ hence the eyeball. Well played I say!

      Can you answer this. Why is a suspension bridge needed? I've seen creeks wider that have regular over passes. I understand the flooding, but usually suspension bridges are for so that ships can pass under. The river is not navigable. Is it for show???

    When Kennedy was shot I was in 6th grade in east TX, about 3 hrs due east of Dallas. We were painting a mural at the back of the classroom when we were told. My dad picked us up in our family tan colored VW beetle. We watched things unfold on the b&w tv. The nation was truly in mourning during this sad time.

    • @ThroughMyLens
      @ThroughMyLens  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ThroughMyLens 14 spots wow. I don't think I could do that unless I spaced it out over 2-3 weeks. It is so easy to spend a lot of money at BBQ places because you get a little of this and a little of that, 1/2 lb here, 1/2 lb there and before you know it, you are at $100. Plus some of the places only take cash so you got to ready for that too. I love visiting those places. The smells are heavenly.

I love that the staff at Cattleack BBQ said they would throw Pops out if he used any sauce on that beef rib. I agree...properly done, BBQ does NOT need sauce....that said, anything you do add, should enhance the flavor, but not smother it. Who knew there was a BIG EYE in Dallas? LOL Too much "work from home" lately. haha.

    Pops and I have got to be about the same age. I too remember this time as being a huge event. I was practicing for a play in the 3rd grade. Mr. Myers, ran into the auditorium and there were two television sets on high frames. He turned them around facing the chairs. It was surreal. The drum beat went on forever on television. Regular television programming was off for several days. I too saw Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald. This is definitely on my list of places to go. I want to go on the JFK walking assassination tour. Then head to San Antonio, stopping by Waco. Another huge event. I'm a traveler myself. It's all about learning. Mom and I went to the Lorraine Hotel too. Another huge event. Keep traveling. I really enjoy your travels. Thank you. Mary

    I was in the fourth grade when John Kennedy was assassinated. What a sad time that was, I recall seeing the funeral procession on black and white television.

      Thanks so much for the comment! We had a great time in Dallas and loved Fort Worth as well, which is in a previous video. Also San Antonio was so cool to see at night and I would love to spend more time there. Thanks for the comment!

    I have the same memory as Pop on 11/22/63. They sent us home early that day and I do remember watching TV for a week over what happened, I was watching when Oswald was shot. The school I went to had just sent a letter to the White House asking for a signed picture of JFK which was something he did for schools during that time. I do want to visit Dallas someday and go to Dealy Plaza

      There are far better and cheaper ribs all over Texas. They're expensive because they are sold in Dallas, which is a big city.

    The old Parkland hospital used it have a memorial for JFK as well, but moved to a new building some years ago, don’t know if or how they are memorializing now.
