    People that bust on PF clearly dont understand that there are different fitness goals. PF isnt for body building or getting shredded. Most people want to lose weight and feel better. Frankly, i love seeing old folks and overweight people in the gym.

    I think Planet Fitness markets to a certain demographic but MOSTLY benefits people who understand fitness and whose goals are fitness . The harder core you are the more you understand the simplicity of needs. I have been a gym rat for 40 yrs. I could see that if you are into body building , want group classes or looking at the gym as a social event , then planet fitness would not meet your needs , but if you are serious and experienced , then you would realize that it more than fits the needs for truly athletic people .

    I have been using gyms for 60+ years and have been using PF for at least the last 10+ years. I joined because I wanted a gym where I could just do what I wanted and then go home. I was/am not interested in group exercise, personal trainers, etc. I know what I need and want to do. PF fits my needs perfectly. I do have one major complaint, the people that think it is OK to sit on the equipment to have group conversations, talk on the phone, daydream, etc. Phones should be forbidden on the gym floor and the people that take up machines while not using them should be told to move by the staff.

    Doesn’t matter where you workout, what matters is the quality of your workout, no matter if you’re at the “Coolest” gym on the planet or a home gym, the quality of your workout, which is maintaining proper form, is the only thing that matters…I’m 46 & look better than most 20 yr olds, because of the quality of my workouts & weekly consistency.

    Thank you for the nice positive and honest review! I don't work at PF but I go to mine daily for split workouts. 75 pounds DB is plenty for me. You can easily get shredded there if that is your goal and most of the machines will take you to Arnie level if you work at it. The Smiths can take 7 45 plates on each side plus the 20 pound bar. I don't know anyone who benches 650 so its cool. Having the safety bars is nice in case you slip your grip. I wish more people used them.
    The 30 minute room, you can ignore the warnings about it being monitored - it isn't. People use it as overflow when the other machines are taken. They are cardio - heavy for sure.
    One big reason for no free weights above the 60 pound curl bars is crew safety - the staff are not world class lifters so they would have trouble saving someone from themselves under 600 pounds of weight. That said the staff at mine is super cool. I'm friends with all the night crew and both managers.
    Anyone can get in the shape they want - up to pretty much any level they wish, whether super low body fat or bulking up, endurance or strength. I lean towards strength personally. May not be made for body builders specifically but you can train hard there. Lunk alarm is just for looks. It would be unsafe to actually use it, especially in tornado alley where I live.

    I wish the Planet Fitness by me in Los Angeles was so empty. Problem here is the price point is so good and the area is so densely packed that even with several locations nearby, it's hard to get in there when it's not crowded. A new location just opened up (again) so I'm going to see if I have luck with not having to hope I get a machine when I want it because the other location nearby is 24 hours and really the only time it's not crowded is a Friday night late in the night. When I lived in Florida from 2002-2008, I worked out at a Gold's Gym in Hollywood. It was a great gym and my daughter absolutely LOVED going there with me because they had a play room for her. Around 2006 or 2007, it was bought out by a Planet Fitness, not too long after I had paid for a full year's membership. At the time, I wasn't familiar with this gym at all. I showed up one day and the play room was gone, they got rid of it. Slowly, all of the heavy dumbbells and plates that I was working out with started disappearing, and more machines and light weights were brought in. I approached the manager and asked if I could get a refund on my membership because of all of this. She told me that my membership was with Gold's Gym, and that I was lucky they even continued to let me workout there. She then basically told me that "my kind" wasn't really welcome there anyhow, because I liked to lift heavy. I vowed I would never stop foot in a Planet Fitness ever again.

    I really like this video as it was balanced and not full of complaining about this company. If Planet Fitness doesn't have the type of weights people like, then they can go somewhere else. Why do so many people bother whinging and complaining? Not everyone has the same wants and goals. Not everyone wants huge biceps and to lift huge weights. I'm 55yo and have just joined a newly opened Planet Fitness not far from my home in the city of Geelong, in the state of Victoria, Australia. I have found the staff to be very friendly, and noticed there seems to be a few more rules in the US PF gyms than here in Australia. I've seen no signs telling members what to wear etc here as I have seen in videos on TH-cam from the US. Everything else is exactly the same here in Australia, the "Lunk" alarm is there but I've never heard it go off and I've never seen anyone who deserved it. The gym is open 24 hours, the staff have all been super supportive, you can meet with a qualified instructor to write up a program for free, the classes are free, and there are people in the gym who are all shapes and sizes and everyone is very friendly. It's actually the first gym I've ever been a member of where I actually look forward to going back. I love it there. I was a member of a gym close to where I live and while I never felt intimidated by anyone there, it just wasn't my type of atmosphere. That gym definitely had more of a weightlifting slant to it, the "music" they'd often blast out at full volume in the gym was at times outrageous including swearing (to the point of being ridiculous) and quite a few tunes repeatedly using extremely offensive terms for women, gay people, the appalling use of the "n word" other slang terms used to offend other often-oppressed people in the community. I'm no prude but it was at times really disgusting. I'd look around and when I realised that no one seemed too bothered - that's when I knew that place wasn't for me. That being said a vast majorly of people there had their own music on in their ears so maybe not many actually heard it. At PF I also like that the gym is really well air conditioned which may sound a little odd, but it's always really cool in there which makes it more comfortable to exercise (especially as Australia can get pretty damn hot!) For less than AU$10 a week I'm a black card member, there is no contract, it's great value and I'm definitely going to keep going along. It may not be a full-on serious weight lifting gym but I'd suggest a vast majority of average people don't want to ever take their weightlifting to a level Planet Fitness cannot accomodate. I do travel a bit (US, Europe etc) so look forward to using my membership around the world when I go away next as they have over 2000 gyms around the world. If Planet Fitness are that successful, they must be doing something right and fulfilling a need. While Planet Fitness isn't for everyone, then again, neither is any gym. Planet Fitness cater to people like me who just want to do some cardio, basic weights and relax in a massage chair afterwards! :) Craig - Australia

    Planet Fitness is a great facility, especially for the price. It was never designed or intended for the 2% of people who want to power lift or show off. I'm 62, been working out at gyms for 45 years, and PF satisfies all of my fitness needs.

    Real Talk:
    I have a love/hate relationship with Planet Fitness.
    I love it because it’s inexpensive and in very close proximity to my house (which makes it easy for me to go 4/5 days a week).
    I hate it because I live in a small Pittsburgh suburb and everybody at my gym knows everybody else, (too much gossiping and backbiting).
    …but I ignore their stupid sh!t, because the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

    It's honestly so hackey to hate on PF. I travel a lot and PF has more physical locations than any other gym. For just $20 per month, I can access any location, which will have the same equipment that I'm used to. I have been a member for two years now and have yet to hear the lunk alarm, or see any pizza btw. Is it the right gym for shredded bodybuilders? probably not, but, is it a good option for the guy or gal who is just trying to get their butt in a gym 5 days per week to stay healthy? Definitely. On top of everything I listed, some people are hesitant to make a large monetary commitment with a contract that binds them long-term. PF lets them pay as little as $10 per month and cancel whenever they choose.

    Planet Fitness is a franchise, which means different locations will be different. My one complaint is that the ones in my area use too much of their square footage for cardio equipment . Even at peak times only a quarter of them are in use but people are always waiting to use a machine and forget it if you want to use a cable machine. I completely understand not having free weights, but their model is still a decade behind the market when it comes to their mix of cardio vs strength equip.

    • @BostonVentures
      @BostonVentures  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's also true, they aren't the same

    • @jenniferring6410
      @jenniferring6410 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. I left my PF partly because I do need barbells for certain lifts but I can work around that. The bigger issue was that more people lift than they are giving credit for that so the weight areas were SO crowded. Not a bench to be had when I needed one and +1 to the cable machines being hogged. Meanwhile, most of the cardio equipment was available and empty. I think they could increase the strength area even just a little and shrink the cardio areas just a little. The average gym-goer of any age is finally starting to understand the value of strength training in addition to cardiovascular fitness but PF isn't recognizing that. Other than that, I have a lot of respect for PF - Brilliant business model, honestly.

I’ve seen some people with huge arms and great abs I’m my location in Minneapolis. I’ve also seen people who had some weird white powder falling out of their pockets while they were going wild on a treadmill 😂😂😂 but that’s not PF fault, it’s just the area.

    If you can lift the weight of a person, 1. Lift your weight (calisthenics) 2. Lift another person.
