Good explanation even for those of us who usually take our UTV's to the dealer for problems. You give your viewers the information to diagnose issues on their own.
Wonderful info I work on a ranch in eastern Oregon we have that problem on our 1000 and after branding tomorrow I'm going to try that I work on our utvs also thanks .
Definitely check with your Honda dealer for recalls too - there have been some fuel pump issues on some model years that can cause rough idle and poor running conditions. Just give them the VIN over the phone and they should be able to tell you. Good luck! Branding days are always long days...
My Honda 1000 dies out found the rear fuel injector sensor bad. I ordered one wondering if I could splice in near the sensor instead of following the existing wire in the harness and splicing in. Didn’t want to mess nothing else up.
For the IACV, it just affected the idle. I do have another video about replacing the fuel pump on this machine though, and when it started going out it definitely caused low power issues. I'd check that video out and see if the symptoms match your machine.
Having a problem starting my 2019 Honda pioneer 1000 after she shut off in a mud hole. The intake hose that plugs into the box from valve cover. I drained all changed plugs, I filled the oil and sub tranny with deisel as I was told it cleans it out and then put new oil in.. I have low compression on 1 valve 55, other is at 95.. idk what else to do?
Does the valve move up and down on the threaded rod/pin? Mine seems to be in a different position every time I take it out, mostly threaded all the way out.
Yep, that's normal. It moves as needed to adjust air flow whenever you're at idle, so it can be in a different spot every time depending on engine temp, ambient temp, fuel quality, etc. No big deal.
@@AllThingsMech Ok perfect, that’s what I kinda figured… Thank you for the reply. Mine had a similar issue with bad idle and stalling so I tried cleaning the iac valve but now it’s idling really high, around 2500rpm It’s a 2018 with only 700km on it.
@@tysonrankine765 no problem man, glad to help. Sounds like the IACV might have just taken a dump. If it went from idling low to idling super high, it sounds like the sensor is out of range and can't quite regulate the air flow correctly. Even with low mileage, age can kill them too. It's rare for that to happen on something as new as a 2018, but it occasionally does. Be sure to check the little o-ring around the sensor as well, if it's torn at all or not sealing completely you'll end up with a vacuum leak right there and it will cause some wonky stuff. Also be sure the little channel in the slide valve is lined up on the little nub sticking out of the bore, if it's not the sensor won't be able to move at all and it could cause it to have a high idle. A new Honda-OEM valve assembly is about $60, and the o-ring is about $9 over at partzilla if you need them. Way cheaper than the dealership I'm sure.
Yep, that's exactly right - thread it all the way down until it's lightly seated. The IACV is basically a little stepper motor that's commanded by the PCM to move the barrel until a stable idle is achieved, so the barrel will relearn its position and self-regulate as soon as you hit the key. Hope that helps!
@fredvacca8570 tough to determine, unfortunately. We had a ton of really fine sand/silt out at the ranch that I had to drive through pretty often. Despite changing the air filter regularly with an OEM Honda replacement, I'm guessing it just couldn't capture all of the extremely fine stuff, and some of that silt ended up getting through and coating everything in the intake and wearing out the valve seals, guides, etc (my pioneer had some oil consumption issues). That's complete conjecture on my part, but based on what I was seeing with the IACVs on our machines plus the oil usage, it's the only thing I can think of that makes sense.
Hey dude I have a 2018 1000-5 ( limited). I have 175 miles and I can't keep it running. It starts fine, idles correctly for about 2 seconds. Then it will bog down to almost stalling , back up, then down. It will do this until it stalls at 40 seconds. I have not had it last longer than 40 seconds. No codes, no water in fuel ( I empties it into clear container the. Re filled with fresh 93) air filters are both amazing . I can't figure it out.
Have you checked your IACV? Sounds really similar to what mine was doing. I've been having some idle issues with one of our newer 2020 Foreman 520s, and both times cleaning the IACV returned the bike to a normal idle even though the sensor looked pretty clean to begin with. Not sure what environment you ride in but these sensors seem to be pretty sensitive. I'd give yours a good blast with some sensor-safe electronic contact cleaner and just see if it helps, even if it looks clean. It will at least rule the IACV out if nothing else.
Well dang. That was the easiest potential fix... I'd spray it off and clean it anyway if you didn't do that while you had it out, just because they are so finicky. Unfortunately there are just too many variables that make it really tough to diagnose via TH-cam comments. When did it start running rough? Is this a random thing, or did you notice it when you pulled the machine out of storage for the season (if you store yours, anyway).
@@AllThingsMech ya it's been in my garage for a year , dry but not heated or cooled. Had to fix my a arm from a previous stump I hit , ( bent a arm mount ). Fixed it and drove it about 200 yards. Capped out speed at 12 and I thought it was cause my seat belt want buckled. Then it stalled and I feathered the gas ( such a bitch ) and got it back to my garage. It's been about two weeks of the exact same thing. Starts, idles all over the place. Stalls no more than 40 seconds. In Nutral or park I can rev it up and keep any rpm I want just fine, Let off gas and stalls. I can't get it into gear with out stalling. I've revd it up to like 3k for a while trying to clear anything in injectors , No luck. New gas , took off air filter nothing. I have a new fuel pump coming tomorrow. Maybe that's it ? Well see
Yeah, if it's not the IACV then the fuel pressure regulator built into the side of the pump would be my next bet. I ended up replacing my pump as well because the FPR was shot on mine. I presume you put fuel stabilizer in the tank while it was in storage? If not it's possible that the fuel varnished up inside the throttle body and is causing some wacky idle conditions.

Most of us need to hear these tips several times. As guys work on their Pioneers these videos will be very helpful,
From eastern Oregon ranch got ours fixed yesterday thanks for the help brother have a good day .
Awesome my friend, glad you got it squared away! Take care!

Thank you for sharing
Mine started at -25 below.let them warmup when its cold, transmission needs to warm up.put in neutral and warmup for 3 to 5 minutes
Any idea why it's getting dirty? I've replaced 3 on my Talon.
