- In this video I show how to repair the FRM module that commonly goes out on many BMW models including x5, x6 E90's and Mini Coopers. Theres many programing tools out there that can do this repair, but I show how to do it with Autel IM608.

Does anyone know about going in a junk yard centre display for mini r56 using Autel im608 pro? How one goes about doing it?
This has by far been my favourite video of all the frm videos.
I prefer this method over using the laptop and inpa or whatever that one program is called.

Great video, Sadel! How would someone know how many sectors the EEE chip would have, especially since the drop-down offers a few options? Is this info available in service data?
Hey Dave,
No that info is for sure not anything to be found in service information, but from what it looks like for the mc9s12x chip has a virtual eeprom in the dflash and max number of 256 byte sectors for buffer RAM EEE partition. So apparently for this you want to set up to the max.

Thank you Erickson, and located in Ohio and I'm pretty sure the 508 can do it, but I think it might have to use the 400pro, but I'm not 100% sure.

Hi Sadel, thanks for the video. Many of the videos I have watched normally would download eee dump files to repair the FRM. Your approach I think works better.
I have a Mini Cooper, 2008, R56. How do I identify the right FRM on the Autel when I have the FRM hardware?
Hey, you would have to look for the chip numbering on the large cpu on the board, it's the big "chip" on the opposite side of where I made my connections in the video. Once you get the number off that, look for it on the list that the program offers

Poner la EPROM en blanco y luego llenar la información ala EPROM. Con el im608 - im508
creo que solo se puede trabajar asi desmontarlado

Thank you Sadel. I have one FRM and I just did did the same thing following your instructions. I installed a new module on the car and keep this one to practice. Next time I know what to do. One question: how did you knew about the numbers 16 and 0?
Glad to hear you got yours figured out; I actually did the same thing before this one. I have been installing new ones but kept old ones to practice repairing. The partition numbers were told to me by another gentleman that uses different programmer. But basically, it's due to the max number of bytes available for the eee within the dflash being that on this chip the eeprom is virtual inside of it. Thank you for watching and glad it helped!

1. Can 508 do that prosses?
2.And is there a list of bmw can be done that way?
3.Can this be done to Benz as well?
yes the 508 can perform the repair with the xp400pro. But it cannot do the online coding via the obd. All the bmw's and mini's that carry an frm it can be done to, not on benz.

@@dashtyATG correct, the 608 is able to do programing for benz and bmw, but you have to be current in the warranty/subscription period to have access to programing files

Can you recover and save the P=Flash and write it to the EEE?
No you cannot, and it depends on what equipment you have in order to do the repair. The autel you would have to write the partition as I showed in the video, but there was an update to the tool where you don't have to do it manually, there is an option to do automatic restore/repair...I did an update video not too long ago on my channel showing the easier process
Hello do you know if that scanner can short circuit counter reset like the set tool 32 software?
I have not had to try at this point, but I do think I have seen that option at some point in the tool functions. Whether it works or not I am not sure.

I heard that very recently Autel updated the IM608 software to where now it will read the DFLASH and will repair EEPROM . I haven’t tested this yet. Does anybody know if this is true ?
I too heard the same thing, I have a couple faulty frm's, I will have to check and see. If so, I might make a second video covering this

Hello can the im508 do the same work?
I believe that it can, there has been an update to the unit since I made that video to where it is much easier to do the repair on the frm once connected to the unit with the xp400. I made an updated video showing that look for it on my channel

So strange. This is happening to mine except I don't have a LCS Malfunction message. No Hazard lights, high beams, angel eyes, windows, overhead cabin lights, or dash lights. Happened after I jumped the battery so I am thinking I fried it or corrupted it the software.
Yes, it most likely is the same issue, this can happen right after jump starting as you said you did, I had it happen to me and seen it happen. You don't have to replace it, just have it software repaired as I showed.
@DTech Engineering Thank you for the reply. Was that rs232 cable provided with the autel model you purchased?
Yes it did, I believe you can purchase the xp400 pro and cable without having to buy the actual autel unit , then you can just use the pc version of the programmer to do the same function. I did a follow up video of doing and frm with the xp400pro and a pc, check it out if you have a chance.

The way I can do it will repair it and get back working, but sometimes I have found and heard that the autel repair sometimes will need coding after it gets installed despite that it is able to operate windows and lights etc

our coworker grabbed our maxisys elite and hooked it up to a x5 diesel, trying to clear particulate filter code after replacement, he's not to familiar with the autel system and ended up disabling the windows and lights, im suspecting FRM, is it possible he could have scrambled the FRM module with the autel?
I've not seen that happen yet, or not sure it it's possible, but since you do have an Elite, which is a good tool, first thing I would do is use that to try and attempt to communicate with the FRM. That will tell you for sure if it is corrupted. I have seen them get messed up from random starts, from jump starting, and from simply installing new battery. It's odd and dumb as far as when they decide to go bad. Hope you get your issue resolved.
A simple polling of all the vehicle modules including the FRM using any scan tool even factory scan tools can cause the FRM to crash
@@DTEAuto ya we replaced the module, most likely from battery being disconnected during the filter replacement, sucks that its that fragile, thanks for the response bud
@@DanVasquez i guess it could have been either or in this situation, he didn't notice the windows and lights were not working until he went on a test drive, so it could have been from the scan or the battery reconnect

Ista-p handles this all day long without removing FRM from vehicle.
I believe after this there has been an update on the autel to do the same through obd
