    Great video! It was a choice of $1000 for a new engine, up to $3000 for a new tractor. I replaced the gasket, changed the oil and new spark plug/filter for under $60.

      a friend of mine bought a brand new zero turn mf riding lawn mower and only got 2.5 seasons out of it before the head gasket went . the warranty ended 3 months prior and the place " kmk sales " would not help . not good people . so now the owner has to haul the mower 80 miles to the nearest dealer to see if they'll actually be able to get a warranty on an obviously defective part . its obvious the part was designed to fail to make someone gain wealth .

    THANK YOU so much for making this video! My local 🚜 dealer wanted almost $500 to do this exact same job. Thanks to your video I ordered the things I needed and had your video for guidance every step of the way. And I really appreciated your providing all the torque specs for all the bolts. A couple of other DIY videos indicated they liked to add Permatex copper Spray-A-Gasket to the new head gasket, so I added that to all 3 gaskets (head, rocker arm cover, & exhaust) and I'm glad I did (I put one small scratch in the head scraping off the old gasket material and the copper spray gave that gasket just a little extra for that imperfection in the surface of the head). Another user showed a great way to gently but effectively remove all the material the razor blade can't get off: spraying the surfaces with WD-40 (or an engine cleaner) and using 400 grit sand paper to wet sand the remaining material off. That really helped get what scraping alone couldn't. Can't thank you enough for making this video! As Red Green says, "If the women don't find you handsome, at least they should find you handy!".

      I sanded with 400 grit and WD too. Worked perfectly. No smoke and only spent $50 for gaskets (head and valve cover), oil, and new air filter. Runs perfectly.

    This was a great video. I was able to completely disassemble and reassemble in one afternoon. I would only recommend converting inch-pounds to foot-pounds because most torque wrenches come in foot-pounds. Thank you for a clear and easy to follow video!

    • @danbell3827
      @danbell3827 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most 3/8 drive torque wrenches are set in In-lbs. The problem with Ft-lbs is the numbers are way too low. Most 1/2" wrenches won't go below 30-40 ft-lbs, and even the ones that do are likely not accurate that low. 150 in-lbs is only 12.5 ft-lbs. For torquing wheels, suspension parts, etc you want the bigger wrench, but you need a smaller one for a lot of things, too. Worst case, the conversion isn't exactly hard, either. Just divide by 12.

    It is very easy to remove head without undoing the valve rockers! Just unbolt the head and pull the stem and head as one piece. Make sure you note that the stems are not identical! The steel one is the exhaust and the aluminum being intake. Be sure to always install the stem the same way it came out do not flip it end for end. It would still function but if there were any wear that was matched it is always better to install as it came out. Still check valve clearance. Gor those without inch pound torque wrench it equal 14-18 ft lbs of torque

      I do have a machine shop. It's a professional machine shop, too. And lots of professional machine shops use a flat belt or disc sander to resurface all kinds of metal parts. Besides, what other machinery could be used to resurface metal parts with??? Also, I don't live in a ghetto. I live in the suburbs of a large city, very far away from any ghettos. I think your "ghetto" response is discriminatory and racist, too!

    Unscrewing the head bolts in this video is wrong. You are supposed to break the bolts on the head about a 1/4 of a turn for each bolt then go back then unscrew the bolts all the way. Doing this keeps the head from warping.

    You forgot the spill icon when moving the carb around. Unless newer carbs have a way of not dumping gas into the throttle body when moving them around, or sending it through the overflow tube. It would be a good idea to also remove the carbon from the top of the piston and valves. Also check the valves for spin while you're at it.

    I torqued my head-bolts to about 18-20 ft./lbs. (max. at 3rd interval). Am i good to go for My B&S Model 31H777, TYPE 0297E1 , CODE 040126ZD ? These are known to blow head-gaskets based on how they are designed with bolts being so far apart at the exhaust stroke part of the piston/head. So I want to make sure it's tight enough. First time around one of the bolts broke so i bought brand new ones (8) and they were a bit different ... tad bit longer, larger flange on bolt-top and they had 5 tick marks on the head bolt instead of 3. So was that a 5 grade-bolt upgraded to a 7? thanks a ton in advance!!!!!!!!

    Do I have to open the value cover just to reset the head gasket?

    • @tier3rd375
      @tier3rd375 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They did it here to remove the pushrod. You don't necessarily have to remove the valve cover to remove the head, but you will still need to reinstall the pushrod so either way you have to open the valve cover.

    These motors if you mow a lot will need head gasket replaced once a year.

      Alot like as in my mowing lawns everyday as a business?

    • @kenithj76
      @kenithj76 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@evilenergy7121 yeah. I've used several these motors over the yrs and head gaskets always failed and the governor flies apart . There's a spring on the compression release valve and it'll fly apart often and sometimes gets chewed up in your gears on the cam shaft and sometimes break a gear tooth or two . Very bad design in those intek engines.

    I'm using a Nm torque wrench. 150 inch pounds = 17 Nm. I've got my torque wrench set on 17 and it feels like I'm going to snap the heads off the head bolts. And the wrench still hasn't clicked. Yours appears to click a lot sooner than mine. Should I keep cranking on it?

    Repair Clinic, My engine has no power and it's a 15HP B/S OHV engine and it don't show smoke coming out of the oil filler. but I do have lots of oil under the cylinder, Would this indicate that I may have a blown head gasket? I have changed the plug, carburetor, fuel line, fuel filter and air filter and still have NO power, engine start good and runs well until you try to cut grass, 9/24/2016. Thanks Stan

    Great video crappy engine. A commercial engine that eats head gaskets and explodes governors isn't very commercial to me. Just be aware if purchasing a b+s intek single cylinder engine these are common problems.
