      I have a huskavarna with a 22 Brigg. It was smoking and spitting oil out of the exhaust. The oil was overfull so I changed but I crossed threaded the oil filter. I cranked it up and it blew all the oil out and quit. I was kinda thrown into a daze by all the smoke and didn't check to see if filter was leaking. Something that I always do. I work on diesel tractor so a farm. Any way when I fixed the filter put more oil she turns over but will not crank. I think I ruined this engine. I already bought another lawn mower just wondering do all think it's done. I see now the carburator was the problem. But I think I burned it when all the oil leaked out.

    brother thank you. I just fixed an auction mower by having to weld a darned deck bracket back on, remount the deck with the parts they left in a box, fired it up and went mowing and she started to smoke and really really smoked when I went into reverse. Figured a seal was bad or something. Stuff running out of the front of it. I even priced a motor just in case. The oil is down. But will go through this test first. The oil seems a little thin to me too, but we'll start here.

    • @normal_media

      its got to be fuel leaking. A buddy of mine says there is an overflow back behind there and the oil level is stable.

    I think it is more fun to rebuild the carb, and then have the needle not seat correctly, or a leaking o ring, and that will fill the crank case with gas again, so you can do a 2nd oil change. It is so much fun fixing small engines, that I want to maximize the time I get to spend goofing around. Well, I guess an aftermarket carb is quicker, and if you are working and trying to make money ... but who needs money anyway? Right?!!!

    Great job T-Bone, man I can't see how some people let their engine & fuel tanks get that filthy under the hood to the point where you can't even see where a leak is occurring. I have owned a Craftsman YT 3000 made by Husqvarna since 2013 with 800 hours on the B&S 21HP Intek single engine and it still purs like a kitten as I've been truly blessed that it's never blown the head gasket, broken the camshaft compression release, or had a rocker arm stud back out which all were common Intek issues. Everything is still as clean as day one as it only takes a little wiping things down occasionally, using a leaf blower, or an air compressor to blow it off once in awhile, and it can only help to keep all that dirt and grime from ruining everything.

    • @RaleysSmallEngines
      @RaleysSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Stop it with the impact guns people. Those are soft aluminum carbs. At 12:35, he said you don't want to crank them down...... Then he goes back around for another slamming session. Nothing on that carb requires an impact gun. Bowl screws, all you need is your weak hand with fingers open and a number 2 screwdriver. That is it guys. If you are normally right handed, use your left to LOWER torque down for the next guy.

    I wouldn't Buy but i would accept a free tractor with one only if brand new without a guy pointing a flame thrower at my junk. 2 cub cadets later( none had a Briggs powerplant) developed oil in the breathers and the present has a head gasket eating disorder. When they make a Titanium head gasket, I would buy a new garden tractor and only after the dealer with my 8 lawyers secure an iron clad contract warranting the engine for 6 million years.

    Only thing I saw wrong is you tightening the oil filter with a filter wrench. Pitty the next guy getting it off. Good video otherwise.

    It's interesting how that mower model had a gas tank that could gravity-feed the carb with no need for the pulse fuel pump, but how when not in use the fuel pump didn't prevent the gas from traveling to the faulty needle valve that caused the near hydro-lock and smoky condition. Of course, for that model, even with the fuel pump, an inline fuel shut-off value is helpful. But, conversely, I have zero-turn mower with that same V-twin Briggs with the Nikki two-barrel carb where the gas tank is in front and lower, so it cannot possibly gravity-feed to the carb when not in use, even if the fuel pump were capable of running interference (which you seemed to have proved that one cannot), so I don't bother to put an inline fuel shut-off on my unit. Otherwise, you did seem to say that the anti-backfire fuel solenoid cannot prevent a hydro-lock condition on a gravity-fed fuel system that has a faulty needle valve or faulty float, and I agree with you that the fuel solenoid probably can give many a false sense of security in seeming to prevent a hydro lock condition and/or fuel in the oil, i.e., a fuel shut-off is still in order to prevent that.

    • @RaleysSmallEngines
      @RaleysSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct my friend. Also check the fuel pump pulse line for fuel. Sometimes the fuel pump is the issue. Fuel can still flow thru a fuel pump gravity feeding.

    What errand can possibly be more important Mrs T! You can’t leave your man filming from more than 100yards away, 🤣🤣 He did an OK job but he ain’t no camera guy. Love the music in the video, always awesome. Baby came dancing in from the kitchen 🤣🤣. We are stealth camping tonight, you’re right brother. You did a great repair and a great video once again brother. WHAT A MESS! I commented too soon, who is cleaning that up, see what happens when you start doing stuff on your own!!! ☹️

    Thanks for that. It clearly wasn't smoking after the repair but I'm still not sure precisely what it was that fixed it. I presume it was oil burning because fuel could be smelled in the oil. However I don't know how this relates to working on the carburetor. I'd be grateful for an answer from anyone.

    • @RaleysSmallEngines
      @RaleysSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The carburetor was leaking fuel into crankcase making it over full. Over full crankcase = smoking. Leaking carburetor was what caused it.

    I have been watching a lot of your videos, they are , informative, educational, and entertaining. I have done a few of the same things you do as well, I like to watch how others will do the same job. Most times I find a few short cuts, and sometimes I think I might be able to help others. Overall, I enjoy watching others. T bone, you do very good work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and abilities with others. Even if someone is afraid to jump in the middle of a job that looks difficult , they can still learn and listen to a repair shop, and can get sn idea if that shop knows what to do, or should go some place else. That Sir is a great help as well. 😊

    I have this same engine in my mower; about 10 years old now. It runs very well and is tough as nails! After seeing what it takes to clean the carburetor and make repairs, I won’t spending my time are monies making repairs! I will junk it and be done with it. I got my monies worth out of it. I will purchase a new one.
