This mechanic is so good and has so much experience that when he sets valve clearances, he knows how to adjust them without without using a whole series of different size feeler gages. A novice should never follow suit until he has at least ten years of experience doing it. T-bone Probably has more like 30 years of experience. And that's why he makes it look so easy. So if you have only done this one or two times, My advice is using a couple of different size feeler gauges. Don't be fooled by T-bone's humility and expertise. He's making everything look easy, Believe me. And, the tricks he shows along the ways are invaluable. Thanks again for another great repair!!! 👍👍👍

@@Detroitblue What you are implying is that he is a fraud. And I simply don't believe it. But what I do believe is that you are a very naive in foolish millennial.
I've done this job a few times now. the hardest part is getting that oil seal to sit right. Also, just a minor thing but you really don't need to take off the front guard at 5:00 or the bracket at 5:30. What i do now is just clean out the broken pieces and leave the same cam shaft in. A 300cca battery will power past the compression release. Never worry about doing this job again.

thanks so much really appreciate your tips and tricks to repair the decompressor have the same issue with a couple of ride ons one i picked up cheap and one i was given because of the issues both briggs and stratten so am going to fix them now i know what to do both of them are not turning over.

T-Bone I Subscribe and give a thumbs up to all your videos and probably always will. My Toro Z Master Zero turn just quit on me one day last week and I went thru all of your steps to find the problem. It just would not turn over. The Battery checked out at 12.78 volts on two different meters, I check the ground on both ends numerous times. checked ever safety switch, again numerous times. Bought a new starter, no change, bought new relays, no change tried everything I could possibly think of. Talked to a lot of friends and mechanics and tried everything they suggested. Went online and checked out other U Tubers to see what they said. Everyone agreed on the first thing to check ---THE BATTERY!! And so, I would check the battery again, even charged it, even though the charger said it was over 80% charged. Then I found your second video with the Two things that I should check if my engine would not turn over (this video). No gas in the cylinder, so I guess it's time to change the cam shaft. I was about to begin tearing down the motor when my son suggested that I call an old buddy of mine that repairs lawn mowers. I figured "What the hell" and gave him a call. I tried everything else. Called my buddy. He asked me to describe what it was doing (or in this case, not doing). I said the engine won't move when I hit the starter. He said it's the battery. I told him I checked the battery. He said did you check the cold cranking amps. I said no. He said take the battery to Advance Auto (nearby) and ask them to test it. I did. It was rated for 300 CCA. It tested at 10 CCA. I bought a new battery and my motor turn right over and started right up. I almost tore my engine down. Thanks to my son I was spared that task. The Tonya Harding 4000,lol! Definitely gotta be of a certain age to get that one. My easy repair would involve throwing that single Intek into the scrap bin and replacing it with a V-twin.

I bought a 2005 Arians 17.5 rider off the original owner, he only used it a dozen times.... Looked brand new....but crank just like this one, but I got lucky...hydro locked😎👍
One of mine has the same issue. It was given to me as a parts machine because the owner said the engine was locked up. I quickly figured out that it was a compression issue by the way it was acting. I did a valve adjustment on it, and it fired up and ran great. I used it for a couple of months with no issue, then it was parked for about 2 months. When I came back to start it, it was doing the same thing again. This mower has a bad deck, so I haven't torn into it yet. I recently found a donor mower, so I am going to start tearing it down when my two current projects are finished. I'm thinking the camshaft is probably the issue. It has a Failtek.

Thanks for watching and commenting. That's a great question, but I depends on many factors. Location, competition, experience and more. Just charge what you think is fair, and what would you pay a shop for the same job. Every area and shop is different. Just treat you and your customer right.
Depends on your area, but some places charge about $220-$230 for labor for this job and the camshaft kit plus a gasket is right around $100. I'd add on some markup on parts too, to cover your time of looking up the serial number and time spent ordering parts etc. On the other hand, if you live in an area with a very high cost of living, you might need to charge more for labor.
Mr. T-bone I must say I do get a kick out of your videos. I love learning, but I laugh a lot at the way you present the information. So here's a trivia question for you if a motor doesn't have your typical spirograph oil pump. How does oil get slung on the inside to all the critical parts? Is it just momentum? Thanks for the education and the entertainment.😅

Awesome video as all yours are. I have just done this exact job. When I now turn the flywheel by hand to check, there's a 'clonk' noise right at the point of compression release. sounds like the follower hitting back as the compression release passes. Is this normal? I guess once it fires this can't happen. Cheers!
Quick way to diagnose This issue also is remove aiur cleaner and cover the carb aur horn Crank it over If does turn over then the compression release is brokedead No air in to compress.. Well you get It
Great video! Just one problem. In this video, and all the others I've seen on this type of repair, that old pully either falls right off or the video skips over that part. So, I have a question. What do you do when that pully won't come off. The hole in the frame is too small to remove the engine with the pully still attached and there's not enough room for a wheel puller. I've cut them off with a grinder but replacement pulls aren't exactly free. So, how do you get those stubborn pullies to come off?

First thing disconnect the battery and remove it from the mower so when you remove the starter cable you don't arc out on anything and when you leave the mower up in the air the cells of the battery will dry out on the top corners. Remove the intake manifold and carburetor so when you're flipping the engine upside down, nothing in the bowl gets in your needle or jets.
Need a diagram/video for a drive belt on an older Husq that has the belt that has a vertical pulley in the rear and then twists to horizontal mid way. Any help?

A stronger starter would be useless if there are broken metal pieces in your engine. Be forcing intermittent starts and ruining engine more.

Without a lift it's much more difficult. Did mine last year. Lasted about 14 months. Did aftermarket cam.? Got yo donut again
