They move around the try box area(box at the end) to try and place the ball close to the posts, it helps the kicker get an easier place to kick from in terms of distance and angle.... rather than if they(players) would just place the ball at the corner, the conversion kicker would then be given(by the referee) a much tougher and tricky angle to kick from.
The closer they put the ball to the posts, the better the kicking distance and angle they’d be allowed to kick from.
Hope my explanation was clear 😅
BTW_NFL full of helmets though 🤷🏾‍♂️😂,but I understand your point of view. The head gear in rugby though is usually for better protecting your ears during the time they’re in between those pile ups. The thin stuffing is just a bit more thicker around the ears it rarely helps with the whole head apart from the ears, the more you watch these videos, you’ll notice that some opt to tape their ears, though I think the head gear is a much cleaner look.

The closer to the goal posts they can place the ball, the easier it will be for the fly-half (or other player wjo must kick) to kick the ball over the goal posts. The ball is kicked in line with where the try was scored.

the reason they run within the try zone or end goal area is because after you score a try, you get to take a kick over the goal posts for an extra 2 points, where ever you put the ball down in the end zone, you have to take the kick from inline with where you put it down, so the more to the centre you place the ball, the easier your kick will become, so the opposition will try force you to score your try as far to the side as they can to make your field goal kick harder

You can't hate the fact that he wears headgear (not a helmet) when you haven't even played rugby yourself. Yes it's true that headgear hardly protects you from getting injuries such as a concussion but as a short person playing international level rugby and versing bigger guys that are from Fiji,Samoa,New Zealand etc, headgear is a beneficial way from lowering the risk of these vital injuries for them.He may get thrown around like a rag doll or stomped on in the rucks because of his size and this is why he wears the headgear but don't say that you hate something when you have only watched or seen it but never played or experienced it.

For younger rugby players that want to extend their professional career wearing this type of helmet is an important consideration. Shorter players are often high tackled against the head by the bigger player, Cheslin Colbys abilities has also made him a target off the ball and well as when he is on the ball. In Rugby there is always opportunity to play dirty, and when we talk dirty we are talking about six feet under in the mud. The scrum or ruck is where most damage is done, because the referee can't always see. When a player such as Colby can't be contained the opposing team will often resort to anything goes type of tactics to either hurt him, thereby diminishing the players performance or they could even take him out permanently. The type of helmet worn in rugby is not a rigid type helmet such as in ice hockey or American Grid-iron. It is soft padding, in Cheslin case the most padding is for the ears, he probably wears it mostly to protect getting slapped across the ears with a palm of the hand, which could bust an ear drum, put him off balance and slow his game down, If you don't believe the dangers of the game for players such as Colby go to 9.25 and watch the opposing player in the white jersey no.13 charge in on Colby (Illegally) and then after ramming in he starts to use his knees too hammer at Colby's head, you will now understand why it is better for Colby to wear this helmet. Don't think that the player attempting to cripple Colby is doing this by accident and understand that the forces here are extreme, even though Colby looks small on the field he is bigger than most people in the street and that most guys playing professional rugby are just freaking humungous athletes.

The footage of Kolbe without the headgear is predominantly 7's and before his concussion issues which began at the Stormers when he commited to 15's. The impact for his frame resulted in multiple concussions and him missing matches and putting his career in jeopardy. On medical advise and the teams insurers, I believe, he started to wear the headgear to give protection to the temple area. Evidence show's it's been successful.

Where you place the ball in the "end zone" determines where the ball will by placed for the kicker so if he puts the ball down centre the kicker will have a clear kick at the posts as aposed to from the left angel or right angle since the ball needs to be grounded before the "touchdown" (try) is scored so he was trying to score closer to the posts to make the goal kicker job easier

South African children, black and colored play physical games in the streets all day long. There is a game called King. Someone must stand in the centre of a square, with a ball he has to eliminate the children while they run from corner to corner. Last man standing wins the game and is crowned king. Well, that game can be very brutal, you must learn to dodge the ball with fast footwork and fast running, or else you feel the burn of a soccer ball on your head, your face, your legs, or your back lol.! It was great fun, especially when it's half the neighborhood's kids tripped each other to get to the safe zone first. When we were not playing games, some children learn to run from necessity. Cheslin has that same determination on his face and the same energy we had back in the day.

But what really makes him one of the absolute best of the modern generation, is his reading of the game and decision making, The speed at which his mind works is astounding, in a split second glance he can take in what's happening around the field, predict what's going to happen around him in the immediate future, run the angles and scenarios and then make an instant decision and put it into action without hesitation.

I think he wears the helmet in order to mitigate cauliflower ears.
If you've watched a professional rugby match, you might have noticed some players' ears look lumpy or swollen. This is called Cauliflower Ear. This swelling occurs as a result of a blood clot that forms after physical trauma to the outer ear.

The "helmet" is only a cap to pad the players ears, and possibly prevent concussions which is heavily common in rugby, especially for smaller players. Since Cheslin is exceptionally small, the odds of him getting hit by someone literally twice his weight is too good for him not to take the precaution .... As many people are saying, the scrum cap ain't exactly a helmet. Aside from the concussion rate thate people have mentioned, a lot of players wear it for ear protection. It ain't unheard of for players to get their ears ripped while rucking, not to mention the intense cauliflower ear you get from constantly getting mushed and squashed around. Its like those ear cap things you see wrestlers wearing, in addition to adding a small amount of protection from brain injury.

It's not a helmet. It's a scrum cap. Chessie is wearing it for concussion protection reasons only. He's relatively tiny on a Rugby field, so his risk of getting a knee in the head or getting injured because his vertical angle in attack and defence is so unbelievably, devastatingly and effectively low, is higher. He can wear the protection for as long as he wants, because as long as he keeps scoring and tackling like that, not a single Bok fan cares. So it's true: Kolbe scores because he wears protection!

2:18 The closer to the uprights the easier the kick for the kicker to convert the try (touchdown). The try is 5 points, and the conversion is an additional 2 points, thus 7 points for a converted try. The kick gets taken at a point perpendicular to where the ball was touched down. Therefore, players always try to get as close to the posts as possible, to get the kicking position as perpendicular as possible to the posts.

Vic would not be able to tie Colbe' shoes. Imagine Vic playing both ways and on speciail teams.

All the guys you mentioned only play one position. Cheslyn Kolbe can play 5 different positions each requiring a different skill set. He is also cousin to Wayde van Niekerk, the 400m world record holder.

after each try there's a penalty kick worth 2 points. the kick is placed in line with the point the ball touched down during the try, so trying close to the posts means easy kick

They have to stand in line with the place where they scored so that they can kick for an extra 2 points through the poles (H) so if they score closer towards the middle it mdkes the kick easier , ensuring extra points

They run around cuz it’s makes the kick easier for the kicker
After a try is scored there is a kick that needs to be kick
Where behind the line the try is scored is the place where the kick will be taken

The aim is to score as close to the poles as possible. To get the full compliment of 7 points for a converted try. A regular try is only 5 points. U get 2 extra points for kicking it over the poles. But u have to kick in line from the point of where the try was scored so out wide the kick gets harder to get right 😎👍

The closer you score to the goal post determine where the kicker is able to kick ,, the closer the better distance and angle is for kicker
