I love my pets so much SO so much. However one day I did have a fire. Luckily I was able to get water and put it out but, it almost got really bad. What happened was that I had a lit candle. I used a long lighter to light it. When I put the lighter down it wasnt far from the candle and some how the lighter fell into the candle and boom! the plastic ignited and it was a big flame. My first responce was to run. If i couldn't get that fire out I was going out the door - not grabbing my phone, my cat , my dogs or - at the time I had hamsters instead of a bird. My bird died due to choking on a bell when i wasnt home. It- was terrible. I just wish i had been home and known this info at the same time- In the future when i am ready to own again, I will keep this in mind.
Thank you for this - I often think about what I would do in an emergency situation. My one bird is in a small enough cage that I could easily grab and carry out but my other one has a larger cage. She does have a carrier and I was planning to train her to go into it in case of an emergency but I realize time may be of the essence and this could prove to be stressful. I think I may need to get a small cage like the one you have so I can put her in there and carry her out but if it was really a matter of time I might try the pillow case-I never thought of that. I don’t know if she would allow me to grab her though - I’d have to be super fast but since she’d most likely be in her cage it might be a little easier especially if I used a treat to distract her while I grabbed her.

Bleeding tiny dot of superglue the bicarbonate of soda for instant cure. Other alternative I used to use breeding budgies was a stiptic shaving pencil to stem blood flow.
If you think your bird might be ill or somethings wrong like they've randomly started hissing and are floofed up. Take them to the vet straight away. No ifs, buts or maybes, just rush them there or they might end up dying.
Diya Ritu try feeding it snacks through the bars of the cage and eventually opening the cage and feeding it with your hand inside the cage. then try allowing it to pirch on your finger but keep the finger in the cage. then slowly start taking it out of the cage and even play with it. note this will take at least a month before you can comfortable take it out of the cage depending on the imprint you made on it before, it could even take a year. birds require patience.
once you start comfortably taking it out of it's cage for about a month, try teaching it some of the easier tricks she shows you how to do on this channel. this will also allow your bird to trust you, and soon you will be able to enjoy a good late night movie on the couch with your new best bud. also, if you got the bird from petco or any other place where it was not hand raised, it will probably take a long time as it would be like taking a grown bird from the wild and trying to take it.
I watched this video after the death of my bird, and when he was dying I thought he was sick and if was his time to go,, and now I realized he actually was completely fine,, he was choking and I didn't know,, I feel so bad,, I got new birds but im now learning everything I can about them, it's sad because there's no bird vets here in my country which makes it really hard
Hi, my name is Maxwell foltz I recently purchased a pacific parrotlet who is 6 months old I've done all the research and gave him a big cage with perches and toys and even made some myself and a balanced diet but over the few days I have had him he's been plucking his feathers and moving a bit sporadically im super worried and scared for him any advice...
And update kinda he doesn't have a lot of toys so that might be why but I'm just super worried we've only had him about 3 days and I'm a super paranoid person so anything helps
Maxwell Foltz he might be scared or depressed maybe try to spend more time with him\her and he is new to your home so he could be really frightened When we got my cockatiel he usually hissed at us but he is now much better he just has to get used to you
Did you give him enough time to adjust after his move before you began trying to interact? Do you have dogs that bark or loud children? Is the cage against a wall so it has a safe side? Are you away for long hours? Do you smoke in the house?
At this point in my life I've really become obsessed with parakeets and budgies and I really want one so your channel has really helped me understand their nature and teach myself how to properly take care of one. I'm hoping to get one as soon I can sort out a nice living space for it in my house so thank you for all your help 😊
The feather removal does not sound very nice. However, it did give me an idea. I am not sure of international availability of this product, but in the UK there is a throat spray called Chloraseptic. The active ingredient is benzocaine. Anything this stuff touches goes numb for quite a while. I though this might benefit the bird if this was sprayed on the pain related area perhaps.
My little birdie SOL just passed away yesterday the 10-25-20 she had something stuck in her lung and the doctor said budgies are to small for any type of surgery like that. She had breathing problems on Saturday and on Sunday at the emergency hospital she passed away. Please throw away any food that has big long seeds or hard seed balls in your budgies food! He was 6 months old when he left us. I will never forget my little friend. He was so smart I didn't know budgies could be that charming and sweet. Forever in my heart and until we meet again SOL.
I own a green winged macaw, how do you restrain them if you need to remove a feather since their beaks are way bigger and way stronger so I can keep myself safe and them safe?
Vanessa Graham lol I have parakeets and they are flight tri ai ed and their wings are not clipped so I would let them go out the window! and get them later. then get 5 dogs, 1 lizard...
My bird just passed, we believe he was chocking we called 10 vets in my area and apparently all the doctors were either busy or not working, we rushed him to urgent care but they don’t take care of bird there. He passed away after 1 hour:(
My avian vet said they wouldnt take out a blood feather unless it was actively bleeding. Which happened to be in the night 2 nights in a row. So dont count on every vet you might be forced to do it yourself anyway
Also good to have a good go-kit to grab with food, meds, water bottle (good if they know how to use a gerbil water bottle), toys, safe cleaning supplies, etc....I have mine in a little pack that I can quickly grab and, well, evacuate!
When I give my bird oil to help him out a bit when choking if he ever does choke (hopefully he never does tho), what oil should I use, what oil is safe for my bird, and what oil is most efficient and effective on helping my bird?
They are very smart and need attention. This channel has great training videos about setting up communication via a bell etc. You need to speak to it and work on taming it, or if already tame, play with it. Expect to be bitten a lot but it is harmless.
My bird recently choked really bad on a seed and almost passed out and almost fell of his perch but I held him upside down and shook him and it came right out
My bird isn't very social and is terrified of hands... My first question is: how do I help him? I don't want him to live his entire life in fear and it breaks my heart to see him terrified of every single thing moving around him. My second question is somewhat related to the video? Would birds lose trust in you when you throw a pillow case over them or would they know you're doing it for their own good? As always, thank you so much for this wonderful channel!!!
The bit about holding them... I usually hold him around his back and onto feet, I don’t do it tightly but will it hurt him or stop him from breathing??
Basic husbandry training for small/medium birds would be awesome! Nails, etc. My hands are so small its hard to hold on to the little boogers do you think the pillowcase idea could help?
hello when was your last postings because I have a parrotlet and I was told I bought him from a breeder and I was told to feed them cockatiels seeds and it over the past 8 months he's he only seems to want to eat certain seeds and I'm wondering why number one he doesn't like any fruits or vegetables. Two other types of bird seed that I could feed him that would be very good for him you know other than cockatiel bird seed?
hello there! recently, I bought a pet budgie who is named Guinness. he is a cute small little guy. I know this isn't really the video for my question but im a bit concerned about him. ive only heard him tweet/chatter about three times, he is very quiet. im not really sure if anything is wrong with him or thats his personality, I am just trying to help him. He did have a bit of a traumatic experience the first time I let him free fly around my house but he seems to be okay. Thank god. he has a whole lot of toys, a little "bed", two perches, a swing and even a little play area for when he comes out of his cage. He really has no interest in his toys but I did see him chill out in his little hoop toy once. Ive had a budgie before but she was the exact opposite of Guinness. She had these loud happy screams and hung all around her cage, loudly chirping at everyone who walked by. Im not sure if he is just shy or doesn't feel well? I showed him his food and water and he ate and drank a bit. He's just so different from my other budgie! please help! (sorry this was so long😂)
Hi!!! my name is Sam and I have an almost 1 year old budgie. I've been working with her since I got her but she still doesn't seem comfortable with my hands. she flies towards me, plays with my nails and with toys and things I hold, but she doesn't let me pet her or step up willingly. does anyone have any suggestions?
Samantha Williams try putting treats on your hand until the bird steps up willingly then gradually move it further and further away as they get more confident (put food on your had still) until your bird has got to their comfort limit, keep doing this until one day your bird realizes your hand is safe and steps willingly onto I without food. :):) hope I helped😊😊
i live in a place that is known for fires 😅 so we have to evacuate every 1-2 years and there will be a lot of smoke so i will definitely use the pillowcase and just bring my travel cage and my smaller cage.
For a fire, would it work to tuck them under your shirt? My bird is about the size of yours, so do you think it would be good? He doesn't panic in cramped situations and can't really fly because his wings are clipped a little bit so he doesn't fly into a window.
im pretty sure one of my parakeets was choking VERY slightly today (it happens all the time with my two birds but they manage to swallow) and i didnt know what to do and all of a sudden by other parakeet pecked the choking one on the beak and she was fine and at first i thought it was weird but watching i realize that she was just help her friend
My budgie keeps yawning a lot but she’ll stop for a little at some points and she’ll act fine but then she’ll keep doing it after a bit. Does that mean that she’s choking?
Hi, I need a bit of help. Yesterday, on the second and last day of my vacation, the fire alarm sounded in the hotel. We evacuated, but my Cockatiels travel cage is flimsy on the bottom, and my dad did not know he had to carry it from the bottom. His cage fell and the bottom came off. I got him wrapped I a blanket and in the car safely, and there was no fire. Will he he traumatized? Should I check for certain types of injuries from the cage falling? Thanks in advance.
Pessimistic Sharkie I know I am not her, but I am sure that if my green cheek conures cage fell, he probabaly would be traumatized. I think you should check for any injuries and see if hes eating anything.
So what if you have a bigger bird, such as a macaw or cockatoo, How would I pull out a blood feather seeing as it would be difficult to restrain such a big bird? And because they are so large with huge beaks how would I be able to contain them in something like a blanket or large enough pillow case for a fire? I'm sure they would become aggressive out of fear if a fire or earthquake happened.
Question I'd like a proper answer to, I've watched so many of your videos and trust you are a reliable unbiased source of information relating to Parrotkind. I've kept and even bred budgies many years ago. I haven't had a pet in over a decade and finding it hard to find a video on side by side comparison between budgie and parrotlet. What life is like with each, from needs to noise level and frequency, trainability, flightlyness, bitting, illness susceptibility etc. There's no parrotlet breeds within 200 miles so having firsthand experience and someone to talk to is not easy especially during Lockdown. They're not popular here. I really want to make the right choice for me and the bird I finally choose from a true picture of life with them. Please could you do a video to help myself and other people making this decision? Your channel is amazing, I highly highly recommend it to birdbrain (ie lovers) folks.
Hello! I saw that you know a lot about birds. I have a lovebird (Polly) for almost 7 years and in the last week Polly pulled some feathers and bleed... i went to the vet and he made it a disinfestation and gave it on legs with some cream. After aprox. 30 min Polly had a allergic reaction and it almost fell down... it could no longer hold on. Now it s ok, but i am really concerned because it s a bit bald, on his feet it does not have feathers anymore... and when he rains I can see his skin... I would really appreciate if you could answer to me.. 😟
Do any birds ever go without these things happening to them? Am I going to HAVE to experience my bird choking on something or am I going to HAVE to pull out a blood feather? I'm planning on getting a bird in a few months, and I really need to be prepared for it.
My budgie has a blood feather it's very lose! Should I pull it out or will it fall out? Cause whenever she flaps her wing it pops out what do I do?if it grows out will I have problems?
The fire alarm in my apartment building goes off sometimes, and it's really loud! Any suggestions on what I should do if that happens? I'm worried about him being terrified and his little ears
Oh then why don't you put him in a room separate from the alarm and if it's daily so for example on Thursday at three am close the doors i between the birds room and the alarm and cover the cage.
Hello ! I was wondering what you have to do if your birds afraid of hurricanes, he hasn't lived to see one, but here they are pretty common and I want to be ready. Thank you!
I sure wish I knew that blood feather stuff beforehand. I Decided to clip My bird Cozmo wings, and I thought I knew everything (I read bird books before I got him) but when I clipped his wings and blood came out that was DEFINITELY a shocker. I was panicking because I didn't how much blood a bird could lose before it was too late so I grabbed a phone book (This was on a Sunday too! not a lot of vets are open! Had to go to one 45 mins away!) Anyway he's okay now, but knowing that I could have maybe saved $180 would've been great
I thought that they were Parrotlets but the presenter keeps saying 'she' when refering to the blues, but it was my understanding so far, that blue Parrotlets are the males.
I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! I got 2 parakeets for christmas. One named Broadway and one named Neena. Neena was a very special bird, we got her for free because she was sick. After about a month or two she seemed to be doing just fine. I was gone at my dads house while my mom was in chicago. My stepdad was taking care of the birds on a normal wednesday night. He took videos playing with them and Neena seemed to be ding just fine. she didn't seem sick at all. even sitting on my stepdads head. In the morning he found her at the bottom of the cage unresponsive. He put her in the freezer in a baggie and we later cremated her because the ground was frozen bc i live in minnesota. (but didn't keep the ash because my stepdad thought it was gross cuz he's irish and they mostly don't do that) My problem is i want to know how she died. did she die from sickness? did she fall from her perch? did she choke? if you could come up with any possible soloution that would be very helpful... Thank you!
hi i am getting a bird and I'm really nervous. i want to know how you set up all your birds and their daily schedule. can you make a video on that? thanks! love your vids btw.

Pls keep posting such videos. It will also be really helpful if you could post one detailing the do's and dont's in such a situation. Not many articles/videos out there for it.

I JUST REALIZED THAT MY BIRD CHOKED!!!! THATS WHY IT DIED!!! 😭 😭 😭 😭 I WISH I WATCHED THIS SOONER 😭😭😭😭
awwww im so sorry for him her :c
i hope ur fine
I found my birb dead in the morning
There was a fire and my bird went though the smoke and survived, such a trooper :D
Thank you so much 🥺💓 one of my birds was choking and he usually gets over it pretty well but this time it lasted more than it should and I had to do something about you, he is all fine now and is drinking water and having cucumbers, Kira and I thank you so much for this 🥰💓💓
my bird started choking last week and he's ok he managed to get through it but the whole time i was wondering when you were gona make this video i remember u mentioning it before. thanks for the tips ur the best !!
I like what your wearing :3
I watched this to late after My Birds death ;-; R.I.P Smash we been friends for 3 yrs and i saved u from another bird and feed u and kept u safe from my dog n cat and today is the day u died R.I.P Smash ;-; ?-4/26/2018

(this is a true story this all happend all today and im in tears) I MISS U SMASH PLZ COME BACK!
i ntried all of this but it didn't help my bird Unluckly my Bird was a Black,White,Blue Budgie Parakeet
So sad i have same color budgie
My *was* a creamy white, blacc, sky blue
His name *was* chibo
I miss my Chibo
Bleeding tiny dot of superglue the bicarbonate of soda for instant cure.
Other alternative I used to use breeding budgies was a stiptic shaving pencil to stem blood flow.
If you think your bird might be ill or somethings wrong like they've randomly started hissing and are floofed up.
Take them to the vet straight away.
No ifs, buts or maybes, just rush them there or they might end up dying.
my bird is 2 years old and have no trust in me how can i take it out ???????
real big problem plz help coze i wanna enjoy with them
any idea ????
Well, you need to get it to trust you. I suggest looking up ways to get this bird to trust you, it can take a long time.
Mine is like that to
Diya Kulshrestha my bird used to not trust me at all so I would just get my bird to let me hand feed him treats so that you can gain trust
Thank you so so much!! I am a new parakeet owner and this information is very helpful!
Maxwell Foltz he might be scared or depressed maybe try to spend more time with him\her and he is new to your home so he could be really frightened When we got my cockatiel he usually hissed at us but he is now much better he just has to get used to you
Jinell Dos Santos ok thanks he just won't really let me near him like you said yet
Did you give him enough time to adjust after his move before you began trying to interact? Do you have dogs that bark or loud children? Is the cage against a wall so it has a safe side? Are you away for long hours? Do you smoke in the house?
do spend a lot of time with it
At this point in my life I've really become obsessed with parakeets and budgies and I really want one so your channel has really helped me understand their nature and teach myself how to properly take care of one.
Vanessa Graham lol I have parakeets and they are flight tri
ai ed and their wings are not clipped so I would let them go out the window! and get them later.
then get 5 dogs, 1 lizard...
Alyssa Fourman if you let them fly out of the window, you're never going to see them again
Vanessa Graham hello
I just started watching you you help me so so soooooo much my friend just got a parrotlet and I suggested she should watch you
This video was so helpful!
Parrots & Me AYE
Oh i know you! That’s you! I know your Bird Freya and i love you guys! You should have 50k likes on this comment.
Thanks so much I actually trained my bird for this and it came useful!
If you say about the choking, will the bird still be grooming its feathers?
Also good to have a good go-kit to grab with food, meds, water bottle (good if they know how to use a gerbil water bottle), toys, safe cleaning supplies, etc....I have mine in a little pack that I can quickly grab and, well, evacuate!
When I give my bird oil to help him out a bit when choking if he ever does choke (hopefully he never does tho), what oil should I use, what oil is safe for my bird, and what oil is most efficient and effective on helping my bird?
Hey did you find out what oil to use. Thanks
This is very interesting and above all very informative! Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge.
Can you do a video on the different noises birds make and what they mean? I got my 7 week old bird yesterday and he's chirping up a storm.
Mine too
usually birb chirps a lot when they are lonely and have no friend
Addy Brown
It's probably saying, "where the hell am I???" lol
This was extremely helpful, like all of your vids. Excited for the tutorial!
hello there!
recently, I bought a pet budgie who is named Guinness. he is a cute small little guy.

OMG I think my buddie has choked but I didn't know 😰
im pretty sure one of my parakeets was choking VERY slightly today (it happens all the time with my two birds but they manage to swallow) and i didnt know what to do and all of a sudden by other parakeet pecked the choking one on the beak and she was fine and at first i thought it was weird but watching i realize that she was just help her friend
Hi, what type of oil would you use if your bird were chocking? Coconut?
My budgie keeps yawning a lot but she’ll stop for a little at some points and she’ll act fine but then she’ll keep doing it after a bit. Does that mean that she’s choking?
i had a fire about 8 years back. no one was home except our 3 canaries and they were closest to the fire.
My Lucius choked to death in less than 1 minute it really broke my soul
Tehzeebie He has been eating well and is not injured. I believe he is fine, but I am still keeping an eye on him
Pessimistic Sharkie How is he?
What if it is a small earthquake and nothing happens except for shaking. Will it scream or do something that is not normal?
So what if you have a bigger bird, such as a macaw or cockatoo, How would I pull out a blood feather seeing as it would be difficult to restrain such a big bird? And because they are so large with huge beaks how would I be able to contain them in something like a blanket or large enough pillow case for a fire? I'm sure they would become aggressive out of fear if a fire or earthquake happened.
What type of oil should we sryinge to help with the chocking?
Your channel is amazing, I highly highly recommend it to birdbrain (ie lovers) folks.
oh thank you so much... my bird was choking on i supposed a seed and was wiggling it's neck and i was so scared, I'm so thankful i found this video...
Can you do a video on how to tame your budgie I have just got one and it dose not trust
I love Your Outfit Today!
a tank top and choker
What should we do in case of a fire alarm? I live in an apartment where the alarm occasionally goes off for no reason at all.
What happens if someone has like 15 grey parrots or something they can’t carry all them out at once what would they do !
The fire alarm in my apartment building goes off sometimes, and it's really loud! Any suggestions on what I should do if that happens? I'm worried about him being terrified and his little ears
Sharon C turn it off maybe
Xxcrafty Corns101 you can't, it's an apartment
Oh then why don't you put him in a room separate from the alarm and if it's daily so for example on Thursday at three am close the doors i between the birds room and the alarm and cover the cage.
Xxcrafty Corns101 apartment smart one, the alarms are in the halls and you can hear them inside, I know because I live in a condo
So is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Had to go to one 45 mins away!) Anyway he's okay now, but knowing that I could have maybe saved $180 would've been great
Magictrix 134 what kind of bird is cozmo
Oh thanks! Since I live in California and there's so many earthquakes here and this was very helpful! :D
what Oil is safe as mentioned in video if ur bird gets something stuck in his throat. Can you plz share what kind to put in Emergency kit
When my bird started choking I had to blow whatever that was stuck in his throats and I just blew in his mouth and the object went back down
CamTheSpursFan you are smart👍
OMG they blue birds are so cute what type of birds are they??
Muskaan Hussain parrotlets
Its a parrotlet :)
Muskaan Hussain Finch
Pacific parritlet
I thought that they were Parrotlets but the presenter keeps saying 'she' when refering to the blues, but it was my understanding so far, that blue Parrotlets are the males.
I was wondering if you could make a video about what a good diet for a bird / budgie / pet bird is, as I might be getting one soon! 🐦
Thanks for the advice
what type of oil do i use for the choking part? (5:31)
I remember in one of her other videos she mentioned Olive Oil
Hey there !!
A part of caring and training, can you please do a video on why to choose parrots as a pet, it would be so nice of you.
What kind of oil do you need to use? I have a lovebird and I don't want her to choke. She already knows how to throw up her food.
CharliesMusical LPS car oil
Lol
Thank you!
Does it matter what specific type of small bird it is?
hi i am getting a bird and I'm really nervous. i want to know how you set up all your birds and their daily schedule. can you make a video on that? thanks! love your vids btw.
When it comes to millet, is the strawberry, berry, etc. scented millet safe? And is cuttlebone good for parrotlets? P.S. Your videos are very helpful.
This is such an incredible, creative and really informative video. Great great job congrats and thanks so much.
Hi! I'm just wondering where you got your cage. I have 2 parrotlets but they are in separate cages and would love one like yours for space saving!
Your videos are super helpful btw!
🐦 are so beautiful! These will be so useful too thank you! 🐦
Thanks for this video. I own 4 Indian ring necked Parrots, one of them died yesterday due to choking. I simply did not know what to do.. He died while I was on the way to the Vet.
Pls keep posting such videos. It will also be really helpful if you could post one detailing the do's and dont's in such a situation. Not many articles/videos out there for it.
im happy you take such good care of your birds 🐦🖤
My first bird passed a few months ago and a week or 2 ago i got 2 other, one died of shock and were poorly treated at the shop
