Thank you for the tips I just changed my budgie water to make them safe I will no longer put them by the window and I'll make sure no electric devices are near them
In Korea, many people adopt parrots because they are cute without any knowledge, and say that they are noisy, dust flies, and can't talk. Some people feed parrots foods that they shouldn't eat, such as ramen and rice. I hope this video comes out in the Korean version as well, too.
@@galehunter2519 Yes they are.. Many people think that their parrots will do the same when they see genius parrots on television programs talking. In fact, when you raise them, they're just noisy, they can't even say "hello." Some people raise parrots without studying well. He sleeps with a parrot, he's crushed to death, and when he walks, he flies away without safety equipment. I even saw a crazy person raising a parrot in a fish tank saying it was dusty. We must know that the ignorance of breeders can also be abusing.
Regarding the scented candles that you mentioned in the video: A wax warmer is similar to a scented candle yet seemingly way more powerful than a scented candle. Even just having one in the same house as a budgie is asking for some potentially serious trouble.
I read a book that stated the same thing about clean water. My mom had gotten into changing our parakeet's water daily. As it gets dirty quick, from not just drinking but just fecal matter somehow getting into it. If we had known to give him spring water instead of tap it might have helped. We already had an older bird. He came from a previous owner. My mom took him off my cousin's hands who got him from someone else. So they already had him for maybe two years prior. She got him as a addition to the family for my niece to help with her being more adjusted to having a pet. My mom did the best she could giving him a happy home. And he lived a pretty happy life despite all things. But she tried to learn what she could for someone who never owned a parakeet before. He expired in 2012 due to either health issues or old age. But the day he ended up passing was the worse time of 2012 for me. Because I had lost my cat of 12 years due to age and cancer in the mouth. And then my mom's budgie fell ill on Mother's Day. When we took him to the animal hospital one male staffer decided he wanted to talk down to us about bird care. Passively aggressively lecturing us while the our parakeet was sitting on the desk dying before the damn paperwork was even started. My mom knew what he was doing and me it just angered me. This even added to a series of bad events for me of that year. He wasn't my pet, but in time we had him he belonged to all of us. So now I have a better understanding of just how hard it can be. Everything you mentioned in this vid my mom instinctively knew, which is why she had no problem. The only thing she might not have been aware of is using spring water over tap water. But even she knew that just like humans, animals deserve clean water daily, and a clean home. Which is what she provided.
Lead poisoning can happen to anyone, not just birds. We use lead almost everyday in our daily lives like pencils. if lead really was in all metals, everyone in the metal and manufacturing trade would be dead.
A few years ago, I had two birds named asher and rio. Asher was a pineapple conure and rio was a green budgie. My dad had cooked dinner later at night and forgot to turn the stove off. We all went to bed, we covered the bird cage, and I woke up to the most horrible cries from my parents. I walked out to see both lying motionless at the bottom of the cage. Those poor souls, I hope they didn’t suffer. They didn’t deserve what negligence lead to their deaths. I loved those birds. It was a hard lesson to learn the way we did. Please be mindful of your small animals. Their lives are more fragile than you know
Yea I fed my parrot fruits and veggies aswell I would give him tortillas once in a while as well and i would even give him hot Cheetos but then my dad sold him ;-; he was a yellow headed amazon parrot
My budgies didn't use to accept to eat nothing except from seeds. Today they tasted mantarine and cucumber and I'm so glad cause they never eat fruit or veggies
Hi, thanks for your comment! Parakeets are sensitive to smell, it is scientifically unknown whether they smell the same we do or worse than us. However, they can suffocate from the Teflon cookware, perfumes and other chemical fumes pretty easily.

@@dapemar011 Btw I'm not endorsing this but, months later and I basically did everything on this list around my conure considering I have a small appartment (Lighting scented candles, spraying air freshners, cooking with non-stick pans...) and the bird thank god is as healthy as it can be, not that I'm calling bs on most of this but I would just tell any new bird dad there's no reason to be as paranoid as I was at the beginning, as you said they DO afterall survive through a lot of difficulties in the wild
My budgie passed away cause he had a heart attack while i was out of the room I loved him so much but I’m adopting two brother parakeets that have a disability so I can also help them so I’m watching this to avoid them dieing great video I learned so much from it.
Hey, I know how it feels, we lost Salvadora, the female budgie in this video a couple of months ago too, I wish you the best of luck in giving the disabled parakeets the best life they can get, I have a lot more helpful videos in my channel you can take a look at 🖤
Thank you so much. I had a toy with a rope tied around some kind of toy? My budgie was obsessed with it and tore it apart, until one day I hear my budgie screaming in pain so sick went to check it out. Only to come to see my budgie getting choked by the rope. I ran as fast I could and luckily cut the rope in time.
So happy I stayed away from the metal and plastic toys when I started getting my birds cage ready. It took weeks, but my dad helped me with making toys and perches out of wood and rope (both were bird safe types) and my mom learned about bird safe house plants, and thankfully we had most already, and put the ones that weren’t bird safe outside. I did better as a first time bird owner than most people did, so I think my little cockatiel lemon is gonna live a good life. :>
I used to have a cockatiel that i love that was genuinely the sweetest, most explorative, and loving bird ever. It took alot to provoke him, and when you did, either it would fly away, or the off chance would bite. But i was young, very young, and he only bit me once. Pretty sure it drew a very little bit of blood, but it didnt really hurt, (it did) but not as much as you would think. But negative things aside, he was so loving. He died to an unknown cause, but i did love him. And it was nice when he was out because he would fly around, and when it did, of course it would be fascinating for a five year old kid. Genuinely a sweet and loving bird. I still remember him sitting next to me. our power would go out, because we had a sequence of tornados come in south carolina, and in that time i would simply open the balcony and play with my friend almost, (i had barely any friends growing up), and would take him out for hours. Its whole lower body was grey and white, had red cheeks, and yellowish white head. But again, he passed away to an unknown cause. It happened over night while everybody was asleep. Eleven years later, i have a green cheek conure, i love her just as much, but is pretty evil. Is always persistent at annoying or testing you or your boundaries. It does this thing where it slowly bites your neck, and then when your reflexes kick in, pinches your neck with the tip of its beak. It literally feels like a paper cut, then peeling off the skin that was torn. in a more simple explanation, it feels like being stuck with a needle, and then taking it out quickly. It does it on your neck, ear lobe, birth marks, sensitive spots, fingers, toes, etc. It also poops, every, single, time, you, take, it, out. Its not like i didnt already know that birds poop alot, but by every single time, a minute or under after i take him out, he shits. On the floor. So you have to spend another minute getting a paper towel and cleaning it out. It almost feels like shes gets amused watching me have to clean up her shit, or take care of something she caused. It feels like its just a evil toddler, reincarnated into a bird. i mean, it literally feels like he holds his shit in in the cage and waits until after a minute youve taken her out and had her on her shoulder, where then she re-creates D-Day all over again. I remember this on time, this seven month old small bird, waited til i swung him over my little brothers keyboard while i was talking to him, and took the most colossal, disgusting shit it could on my brothers keyboard. He had to take almost every key on the keyboard in order to wipe it out. Its poops are genuinely.small, but this was ten times bigger then what it usually is. seriously, its not an Exaggeration, dead serious, ten times bigger. It poops in its cage, but its always whenever you just take it out. It also likes to bite for no reason, and absolutely loves ears. It has toys in its cage, but barely touches them. Its favourite toys are ears, clothes, neck collars on shirts, the ends of pants, mouse pads, my little brothers keyboard, and corners of wood. It doesnt do anything but sit on your shoulder when you take it out, allllll the way until you put it back in. Doesnt fly around on its own at all. It absolutely loves me, and is quite literally obsessed with me. Sometimes i need it off for a second because i need him off, and he flies 10-20 feet away from his balcony, onto the couch, and then waits 20-30 seconds, then flys to my shoulder. We have a two story house, and fifteen steps of stair. He flys up every single one, walks through the wooden floor hallway (to which you can hear tip tap tip tap tip tap) goes into my room, and flys onto me. Google says conures love to be be pet, to which mine barely does, and on their beak. Hell, put your finger anywhere near his beak, your fingers going with him. Google saying conures love to be pet on their beaks is a complete joke. Anyone who trys to get him on them or anything, he doesnt budge. He can only be with me, my mom tries to pet him while her on my shoulder and puffs up his neck and trys to bite her finger, like she was trying to taks her away from me. The bird doesnt explore or anything and doesnt go any where or do anything or fly. It only flys to hop on my shoulder. And i see videos on youtube "my bird doing tricks" "my bird flying around!" Stuff like that and it makes me jealous. Dont think i dont like this bird, but this is almost just a rant or vent about it. Sorry if i called it a he a few times, im tired and its 3:07 in the morning. And sorry i wrote so much, youre definitely not gonna read all of this but yeah, if you did, thank you
Thanks this really helped! My budgie is always puffed up and I thought it was so cute but now I’m gonna cover him so he won’t freeze. Also, my yellow biting budgie named lemon passed away last year (2020) From an infection in her bowel. When I need info for my budgie, I ALWAYS watch you!
Hey, there are some very dusty places where we usually never clean and our bird like to sit there, like on top a closet were the dust is very condensed
@@nusaibaakbarsarin2469 Like the man said, you can't avoid dust entirely. Sure, you can try to keep your place as clean as possible, but there will always be a presence of air polluted particles.
I had 4 budgies total, whom of 2 of which I owned (named tiki and star) and my sister had 2 more (kiwi, and blueberry). Last week before i headed off to do my workout, I heard the calling chirps thinking it was just them being dramatic calling eachother again (it usually happens, so that’s why I thought that.) Not even 20 minutes later my dad calls me in a panic telling me the birds had died. How? They fell into my sisters fish tank and weren’t able to get out (the tank has a small opening, but the rest was covered). That day, tiki, kiwi, and blueberry died. Star is still alive but we got her some friends (and we did do the quarantine period) and she does seem a bit happier, after I noticed that day that they passed she was very upset, you could see it in her face. Moral of the story is, don’t keep fish tanks near your birds.
Thank you for sharing these tips. My budgie just passed away this afternoon and I was beyond devastated. He was flapping around uncontrollably and had short moments of being unconscious. He became unconscious for 15 seconds once and we were able to wake him up - however, the second time was the last. We are thinking it is either from a candle, food, old age (we adopted him and never knew his age), or metal poisoning from the cage. The worst part was that there were no emergency animal clinics in the area that treated birds. It was so sudden, too. He was fine the day before. I have two other budgies as well and am hoping they will be ok.
yea today my bird jaiden passed away. there was a lot of noise coming from the cage as i was going to sleep last night, it was probably my other bird saywer who is still alive, so she was probably trying to tell me about jaiden. i found her dead in her cage this morning. i even made a grave for her with my best friend. R.I.P. jaiden. you will bbe mised.
Omg!! I’ve done so many of these and now I feel so bad!! I’m so happy they haven’t died. I will definitely fix everything that I’ve done! This helped so so much. Thank you!!
@@brendanrigaud9096 it’s still a good idea to avoid some bad habits that could hurt the Budgie. They might be healthy at the moment but in the future things could change because of a simple mistake.

Whaaaa? :( I lost a bird once too on June 7th in the morning. I had a bad day that day and balled my eyes out the whole day... I woke up to. My parents saying my budgie died too. And worst part is.. I didn’t get to say goodbye because my budgie was in the vet trying to get better. My budgie was 1 year old. Still a baby Caring, loving, cuddly, loved to kiss me.. my budgie somehow knew that it would get adopted by a caring loving person that would always hope for another budgie and that was him... he died due to eating his poop when there was food and water. I trained and trained and even tried out a seed in his face to eat.. I tried to give him water to wash it down. And get the poop out... I... always...will...remember my brave, loving, bold, baby bird forest.. 😭 I still have 2 birds my oldest one is 2 years old. And my youngest baby bird is 1 and a half years old I got the same color as my other one that died. Ofc I named my other bird forest the 2nd. Forest 1 and forest the 2nd are brothers and sisters. The important thing to always realize that you don’t know how lucky you are to have your budgies for 3 to 5 years while some day within a day or a month or 1 year... don’t take a budgie for granted and always love it til death like when they die you will die too...
My budgie passed away on the 15th, I happened to see this vid and wanted to know what else I should look out for. Also, for new bird owners, don't use corn cob for the bottom of their cages! It can cause mold to grow and it will infect the birds! My bird ended up with an infection that ate away at his bones and he passed away because of it! Please be careful!
2-5: Plants, cooking, scented candles and AC. My Parakeets: Their cage in the kitchen, with a scented candle, and them flying in my room (when the AC is on) and also flying in my bathroom (nibbling the huge plant that’s in the bathroom)
So if I used an air freshener or perfume in a different room away from my birds, would it still end up killing them? Like would I have to give up those things all together?
And a long time ago when I was around 11 or 12 years old I used a kitchen mitten glove to carry my bird because we were going to clip its wings so we dont lose the bird but it died in my hands 😭😭 . I'm sorry birdy
So sorry for both of you my ringnecks are my world but since I'm 11 and my parents aren't educated they have a budgie cage (I have 2 Indian ringnecks), they have a seed diet even tho they are omnivores, they never got a vet visit, etc
My bird died some months ago ,idk what happened to her,I was just going to do my homework and I saw that my bird wasn't able to walk she was laying down and birds never lay down ,my brother picked her up,but she couldn't do anything and she died my brother cried 2 days
If they can smell all the way across the house and the smells can be toxic what am I supposed to do? I have a very small house and there is no way I wouldn’t be able to cook around them unless I go outside but I don’t gotta way to do that? What do I do?
Great video... They do need access to sunlight close to midday to make vitamin D to strengthen their immune system. I do agree that the cage needs partial shading so that the Budgie can move in and out of the sun. You didn't mention the dangers of ceiling fans and mouse traps behind stoves. I liked how you mentioned WiFi and electromagnetic fields
Thank you for commenting! On this one I was wanting to share dangers that are a bit less obvious. I have a separate video for things that are more common, like ceiling fans for example.
I always read that those gritty perches were good as it kept their nails trimmed. Also I have a tablet that is for my two birds. I play other bird sounds for them and it helps them get up and move around/play. They aren’t on the tablet all day.. typically only 30 minutes or at most an hour and a half collectively through out the day but have been doing this for a while and none of my birds have gotten sick?
Hey, about sandpaper perches, the reason why it's best to avoid them is because of the texture, a lot of bacteria is breeding inside and it's really hard to clean it and sterilize, so that's why it can cause bumblefoot. about the tablet, I play my birds budgie sounds too (I actually have my own budgie sounds videos in my channel 😅) It's ok to do it and we can't really avoid it, but as humans, also budgies can develop cancer over time, it's not a quick process. Like I said in the video, it's best to turn off the electricity at night and earn 6-8 hours of non radiation time to us and our pets.
@@Bird-Nuggets my bird has bumblefoot,it’s not actually for sure YET but,it’s most likely he does have bumblefoot,I love him so much ,i’v had him for 3 years but he’s like 4 years old, good live,I mean more than half cause the average live span is about 7 years or even longer if you take excellent care, EDIT: DO NOT USE SAND PERCHES MY BIRD DIED 2-3 days after this comment i’v made ,
I also didnt want them to die. But i lost two of them. So pls take precautions like he told in this video because i didnt took and they are n- no more alive
So I’m about to get a English budgie and my mom tends to spray perfume in her room and my room is down the hall from where she sleeps I know it’s dangerous but will a fan and window help?
Hey, when she uses her perfume, live a window open and let all the smell get out, but don't get your budgie outside while the window is open of course.
Hey, about tap water you can watch this video- th-cam.com/video/qz2ts6u8umU/w-d-xo.html And about sand perches, it's best to avoid them as the texture makes it easy for bacteria to breed and its really hard to clean it due to the texture..And that might cause bumblefoot
If you can afford the materials and time to do so, my recommendation is to build an aviary for your birds. We make all our perches from wood from our tree or natural plaited rope, and the cage itself is made of wooden planks and stainless steel garden wiring. Since they are outside, they aren't exposed to many toxic fumes and materials inside the house, and they get plenty nutrients from being outside that they wouldn't get inside the house. Also, they have plenty of space to fly around, and generally have nice lives and long lifespans.
I did not know about the plastic perches being bad for budgies! Thank you for making this video I will replace the ones in my budgie’s cage ASAP. He is only 1 year old!
So a half covered cage in the sun with acces to nice, cool water is good? My parrot loves the sun so i usually get him to enjoy it on the balcony,in a separate smaller cage
We had 2 budgies.. The eldest one was the father, and the youngest was a baby. My sister just found out that the Father died. My mom noticed that something in his neck was sticky. She concluded that the father was trying to get out but snaped it's neck or something. Idk. I should've seen this video earlier, because we have most of these dangers... I don't want to loose the baby as well so we're changing where she is going to stay..

My "study" room is the same room where i plan on placing my budgie, i leave all my devices such as my laptop, etc in there. Is turning off electricity good enough or are there any other ways?
My female cockatiel died in the middle of last year, i came home from school.. and me being the most idiot i am, i said "BOO!!!" At that moment, she fell to the bottom of the cage. I didn't even question it. I knew she was dead... i still cry from this day, just a little less.. i miss her so much😭💔..
Okay I have a question. Why my bird is still not dying,my father cooks with them and we allow to play them using some plastic toys. I had my bird since August
My bird, a cockatiel, lived for 24 years on tap water in California. I also had him in living room the room next our open kitchen. I think buddies might be more sensitive and also how much toxin and how close probably matter. I never knew these things were bad. Like plastic and steel toys. I never heard these were bad. I assumed since they were for birds and sold in pet shop must be safe. Scary.
@@Bird-Nuggets Now is night in my town and I am some how in tension that he dont die due to loss of his mate. They even kissed wach other so much and lives together all time. I am really worried about it so can u tell me about it

Depends on the system for water. I had a 14yr 8 month budgie live fine off of it but died of his body giving out after 3 (those atks they can get before death).
Thanks man. Great advice, have two new cockatiels. Male one month. Female 9 months old. About two months now and my sister bought them toys and food. I told her not to buy toys but she didn't listen to me as bids are most of day out of cage with family and they really don't need toys. So she got those color toys and stuff. Baby bird with in about three weeks suddenly got sick, as I watched Ur video I removed all toys immediately and hopefully baby bird improve. Thank you 😊
I do most of these things besides the direct sunlight and cold drafts and I’ve had my budgie for almost 7 years and hes perfectly fine and hes the happiest budgie alive
Make sure to give it a big cage, and let it have access to free flying whenever possible. Be patient with it, the taming process of a bird can be really long. Spend as much time as possible with it as Theyre really social. Make sure its on a really good diet with a good seed mix with also lots of fresh vegetables and fruits
My pet budgie died in 2020 Dec 29 :( I think she lasted three days. Maybe she was in the pet shop for so long :( and her name was Lucky But it was unlucky it died.
Thank you for this.. I lost a budgie three days ago & I'm still devastated. I thought it was unwell so I tried to get it to the sun for a while, it was so weak and it died in my hand... I got some multivitamins, antibiotics from a vet yesterday for the remaining 3 budgies & one was weak yesterday but she's stronger today. I'll be a better daddy to them..
Is having unlit candles near a budgie an issue? Or is it just if they are being lit around them? I have candles around the house but I don’t light them because of the bird but also I have scent sensitivity myself.
I like how these tiny creatures are too sensitive. I learned to consider more because of them! Edit: Also, I learned to keep water source away from sleeping/eating places to avoid the falling waste in the water.
I knew a guy who had an African grey parrot. He came home from a long night of drinking and decided he wanted some mac and cheese. He put a pot of water on to boil, dumped the noodles in the water and sat on the couch to wait the 10 minutes for them to boil - and promptly passed out. He woke up two hours later with the house full of hazy smoke and his bird had died from the fumes. Birds are very sensitive to air quality.
OH my gosh! Not knowing of the scented candles and the cooking dangers I had moved my budgies cage pretty close to the kitchen where I HAD been using scented candles AND I was cooking. I think it's some miracle that they had been living for 6 months there completely lively and fine with pretty much none of the common signs of illness in budgies. Around this time I had also taken those two to my avian vet for a yearly checkup and they were completely healthy somehow. maybe I just wasn't using pans with toxic fumes and toxic scented candles at all somehow?! Anyway after this video I immediately moved them a level downstairs in a sunny spot ( don't direct sun obviously ) and they are doing pretty well. This gave me a mini heart attack!

Parakeets aren’t sensitive to smell they smell worse than us but he’s trying to say their respiratory system is more sensitive which is true
Hi, thanks for your comment!
Parakeets are sensitive to smell, it is scientifically unknown whether they smell the same we do or worse than us.
However, they can suffocate from the Teflon cookware, perfumes and other chemical fumes pretty easily.
They are VERY sensitive to smell actually.
@@ParakeetWorld I know, mine likes menthol cigs over regular, it can tell the difference.

That’s so scary! I’m happy he/she’s okay!
It scared me because I didn't see the read more part
Omg so glad he's okay! That's why if you see rope perches getting torn, take them out immediately.

Still a baby
Caring, loving, cuddly, loved to kiss me.. my budgie somehow knew that it would get adopted by a caring loving person that would always hope for another budgie and that was him... he died due to eating his poop when there was food and water.

Hey, about sandpaper perches, the reason why it's best to avoid them is because of the texture, a lot of bacteria is breeding inside and it's really hard to clean it and sterilize, so that's why it can cause bumblefoot.
about the tablet, I play my birds budgie sounds too (I actually have my own budgie sounds videos in my channel 😅)
It's ok to do it and we can't really avoid it, but as humans, also budgies can develop cancer over time, it's not a quick process.
Like I said in the video, it's best to turn off the electricity at night and earn 6-8 hours of non radiation time to us and our pets.

And don’t open a fan bc it could fly into it and die
My vet said that tap water isn’t bad for animals. And can u maybe explain why sand perches aren’t good? I have a baby cardinal and a parakeet
Hey, about tap water you can watch this video- th-cam.com/video/qz2ts6u8umU/w-d-xo.html
And about sand perches, it's best to avoid them as the texture makes it easy for bacteria to breed and its really hard to clean it due to the texture..And that might cause bumblefoot
i wouldnt worry, almost all bird owners give their birds tap water
@unrevenanthypercam 12 but my baby cardinal LOVES to scratch her face on it lol
What are the best swings for parakeets to use. I'm having trouble finding some that I think will work and be safe.
After watching this, I know I’m looking after my two budgies properly! Thanks!!

Plastic toys are safe, the metal one's are toxic.

Also im sorry about your bird losing a pet is really hard
@@ricecake2753 which fruits and vegetable will be okay to give them?? pls tell
Bananas, strawberries, grapes, mangos, apples, pears, cucumbers, carrots, lettuce
My pet budgie died in 2020 Dec 29 :( I think she lasted three days.
Maybe she was in the pet shop for so long :( and her name was Lucky
But it was unlucky it died.
Hi, in Sweden we have really clean tap water but it contains small amount of chloride, is there any problems with thar
Thank you for sharing! My budgies are truly special to me. These videos make all the difference as I continue to care for them 😊
Thank you I’m looking forward to getting a budgie and this helps a lot
Thank you for this.. I lost a budgie three days ago & I'm still devastated. I thought it was unwell so I tried to get it to the sun for a while, it was so weak and it died in my hand... I got some multivitamins, antibiotics from a vet yesterday for the remaining 3 budgies & one was weak yesterday but she's stronger today. I'll be a better daddy to them..
I’m sorry for your loss. Glad you still have your 3 other birdies left
Is having unlit candles near a budgie an issue? Or is it just if they are being lit around them? I have candles around the house but I don’t light them because of the bird but also I have scent sensitivity myself.
The thumbnail was just perfect😔👌🏻
0:16 idk what the birds are doing but when mine did the one of them got badly injured
That’s healthy, she’s being pruned by her partner and he’s removed old cells for new hair growth which she can’t reach.
@@samscrillaHair growth??? 😂
Thanks for warning me about this stuff, ✨💖✨💖✨
can rust kill them? i got them yesterday and placed them in a old cage before i make one, i saw them chewing ontop
WOW, i've been doing things right even before researching.
*silently praises self in mind*
I have problems with the rats chasing and biting my birds. Any advice? Thank you so much!
Thank you for the info!
The reason I watched this was because feel like getting a bird
You should definitely get one if you feel ready, birds are amazing
i've kept my birds in sunlight for 6 years y r they still alive
Sunlight is completely OK, and recommended, however not direct sunlight with no shade for the bird to go to.
@@Bird-Nuggets Also, how do u cure bumble feet? My bird is scared of me so I can't really help and we can't afford vets what should i do?
@@lolbitchs5818 you shouldnt have pets if you cant afford a vet

There are these bells that I have and they are hanging from metal chains do I have to remove it? Or is it ok
For the tap water I live in SF so I’m not sure how clean the tap water is here
