they didn't even do that, the boost particles that fill the gauge are still broken since they play at 720p without scaling and don't actually reach the boost gauge (this is a problem in the original version too when played at any resolution higher than 720p)
@@CrashFan03 yeah. They confirmed the Gens remaster was rushed (not surprised) because they want to release the game this year, since it's "The year of Shadow".
@@SFproductions1 I was gonna say that they enhanced classic Sonic’s colors. It’s small but when you look closely, he looks slightly more accurate to how he did in the 90’s.
@@ljtufts1896 thats wrong classic sonic was always a regular blue in game sonic generations original had the classic sonic blue the same color as sonic 1 title screen blue stop confusing people just look at the japanese official art of the 90s that isnt manga its regular blue
I'm in the camp of Generations not really being broke and not minding playing it safe with a straight port (graphically). But it should be advertised at face value
@@Ang3LofSp4rKUh no, no it is not. A remaster entails some sort of noticeable graphical enhancements and various quality of life changes. Comparing visuals the game looks damn near identical to how it did on my ps3 and we've yet to really see how they've touched the gameplay outside of the shadow portion which is more comparable to a dlc campaign.
@@altonb.1396The game will be on the switch, so it's very likely that the switch would hold it back the way it did with Frontiers. To add, I doubt they even have/use the old Generations engine anymore, which is why the Shadow Generations aspect seems to use the Frontiers gameplay, and that would also explain why Forces engine itself seemed worse. They can't improve upon the engine without entirely remaking it. They did add the drop dash, but in generations there's not really a use for Sonic to have spin dash, and it would take away from the difference in classic Sonic's gameplay. Aside from that he doesn't really have any abilities they could add for generations stages that he didn't have at the time. Classic Sonic has the drop dash, his only new ability. The best they could've done imo was maybe add Tails to assist you like he would in Sonic 2, since Tails is with Sonic essentially the entire time after Green Hill Zone
There's other stuff that highlights the issues from the lighting and etc, I doubt people would be doing this if SEGA just said a port instead of a remaster with enhanced graphics
This game is more in the same category as Sega Ages Sonic 1 and 2, it’s really just an enhanced port, those versions added small things like the Drop Dash, Ring Keep Mode, Super Sonic Mode, even the arcade version of Sonic 1, but the difference is, those were advertised as straight ports, not remasters. Just wanna put that out there, feel free to quote me on this if you want
Oh and also, people compare this game to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and that game is the same deal as this: a port with essentially a second game added on to it
Frankly the SEGA AGES ports on 3DS and Switch are far more ambitious and will have had more work put into them than what’s gone on here, Shadow content aside.
@@Gear07i absolutely loved Sonic colors and unleashed then just never got generations, I know I’m missing out😭 I think I wanted to wait until I got something other than the wii cause I learned the wii Sonic games were different than their counterparts. Now if I buy generations on the 360 it’s gonna be redundant once i go and buy this remake😅
I think the main issue is that Sonic Generations is confirmed to still be using hedgehog engine 1 while Shadow Generations was built on hedgehog engine 2. I'm not saying trying to make an excuse but I think it's an important factor to consider.
I do notice that the Shadow stages are a bit Force-esque, especially when it comes to animations, such as the spin jump, the homing cursor SFX, and even the boost initiation SFX. Granted I’m not extremely upset about these animations, but given it’s a Generations remaster, at least go with the format
@@leonardowynnwidodo9704 Though the physics seems to be improved over Forces and Frontiers, I was hoping for Shadow Generations to use Generations like physics personally. It could be nitpicking (or not actually, we’ll see), but I would have loved a 3rd game that feels similar to Unleashed / Generations
@@leonardowynnwidodo9704 Yeah I think that just boils down to the hedgehog engine 2 problem. It's not as exhilarating as Unleashed/Sonic Generations but the level design seems to have a similar design to those games at least. I guess we just have to look at it as another play style.
@@SonicSwift99 agreed. And honestly, until their new games are on par with Unleashed or Gens and just HE2, I’ll keep saying they suck in terms of physics
Personally, as someone who has never, and has always wanted to play generations. The fact that it is playable on newer consoles is enough for me. Yes it could be better, but I’m SO excited to get to play both games for the first time!
I'm no modder but I am someone who are really familiar with Sonic 3d models, I do renders of them. and while Sonic Gens "remaster" dosen't have any huge differences, I can say that it DOES have some if you look closely. for example, the colors look so much brigther now, I honestly didn't liked how original gens looked at all, I've always thought it looked really "gray" in some way, but the remaster does look like it makes the colors brigther, I'd say they put a filter of more exposition, since in some parts, I did noticed some shadows are way more darker than before, so yeah, I can say there is a graphical difference but it's a little subtle if you don't pay close attention. so maybe they did remastered it but not that much, I'd love to see a graphical encancement, specially for the cutscenes, but eh, it still looks good, I'd say even better than og generations but that's just me.
And decreased depth of field, most noticeable when running down Rooftop Run, oh and remaster just means higher resolution textures, the term you're looking for is remake, which is when you actually change things like models and lighting
@@ethanwayne6973 no. A remaster can actually change lighting and overall better graphics (just look a the metroid prime remaster). A remake is completely re-doing the game from scratch
Graphics side? I thought the Textures look the same because of TH-cam compression. Nothing running on 4K ever looks that good On 1080p trailers To me personally
I see a lot of people commenting stuff like this so I feel like breaking down a few things that should be understood. 1) "The graphics do look better, the shadows are more defined and the colors are richer." What you're likely seeing is the result of Generations being on better hardware and making use of HDR which naturally has allowed colors in media to look more vibrant and in the case of dark detail really makes a difference in having it pop. It naturally looks cleaner because aside from PC and Xbox One/Series S and X backwards compatibility? Sonic Generations on PS3 and 360 ran at a resolution of I believe 720p at 30fps (PS3 apparently was 1080p but that's one system and it still was locked to 30fps). It's to be expected that it looks clearer and cleaner but that's not the same as remastering a game which brings me to my next point. 2) "It's a remaster, not a remake." I see this point being thrown around and I feel while this is accurate, it also kind of misses what a remaster is. To remaster something is to improve the quality and if you advertise it as a remaster? It means that while the expectations should not be on it being rebuilt from the ground-up, there's still the expectation of improvements. People have commonly compared this to 3D World's rerelease on the Switch and I feel in particular that's a good point to bring up because while some sites use the "remastered" wording, most of Nintendo's marketing from what I recall didn't really call it a remaster, they noted it had additional features but otherwise put their focus on Bowser's Fury, not so subtly indicating this is kind of just them rereleasing a game on the more successful console with new material and improvements to accommodate for the lack of certain features of the system. For another example? There's the God of War HD Collection. Now the games on PS3 did see a boost with upped framerates, better widescreen support and updated textures and clarity but the people at Sony made it clear these are not remastered but rather enhanced ports. Sonic Adventure DX setting aside technical problems is a remaster. It has the visuals somewhat overhauled, the framerate's improved and there's the extra content. Sure if we're talking the most basic definitions then Generations is indeed "remastered" but to me if that's the case I might as well call any emulated game a remaster because it looks cleaner. People know how to temper expectations for a remaster when it's accurately presented. It's what makes something like Colors Ultimate embarrassing because the bare minimum people expected was Colors with a resolution and FPS boost and some bonus content but then the game released kind of broken and with clear corner cutting thanks to rushed development. Now to be fair, Generations still looks good which is likely why it just being cleaner is fine with people and that's totally understandable but when you promise a remaster? That's kind of a problem, especially when you compare the Shadow content to Generations and see how much better it looks and for the record, I don't think it really matters that they're running off two engines. I mean modders have shown how just enabling Unleashed's lighting and shaders can make a world of difference. Now if you look at all that and go "Okay but I still like it and I'm pre-ordering?" then by all means do so. This isn't about trying to tell you that decision is stupid or anything like that. If you've justified the purchase then you've justified it. This is about pointing out that SEGA is advertising it to be this one thing when it isn't and while we are a couple months out from its full release? It doesn't really look that great to be four or five months out, marketed as a remaster and still not have anything changed about it. And again, let me remphasize this, this is not me telling you that you are a stupid person for pre-ordering or desiring to buy this. Trying to make any sort of argument to counter these claims is pointless since your purchase is your purchase. If you feel honest-to-Chaos looking at this that this is enough of a upgrade and are satisfied? That's awesome, I more than accept that take.
Well good point, people don't really have a problem with Bowser's Fury because the point of the game was to bring 3D World to Switch and take the opportunity to add more content. If they advertised this as more of a port than a remaster then this would be way more acceptable. After all, it's not "Sonic Generations HD Remaster", it's "Sonic x Shadow Generations". Although I have to say, I personally didn't ever see SEGA themselves using the word "remaster" to describe Sonic x Shadow Generations, but I do see in the video they advertise "enhanced visuals".
@@elfrangofrito The weird thing is that while they haven't really used the word, they're definitely treating this as a remaster. In particular there was an interview Iizuka had where he mentioned Sonic Team was open to the idea of doing more remasters and indeed there's the enhanced visuals bit which makes the fact Sonic Generations looks basically the same very odd. I mean say what you want about Colors Ultimate, at least when they noted they changed the visuals, one could tell right away they did that.
But that's the thing, they aren't advertising it to be one thing when it isn't like lmao. Things have changed about it and it very much is being treated like a remaster by Sega. No amount of giant walls of text is gonna change that
I honestly think that Sonic X Shadow Generations is not a remastered. I think Sonic X Shadow Generations and Sonic Generations are two different games.
Dear God, I hope you're right. I do not want to spend $50 or more on a potentially worse version of Sonic Generations with more bugs with an added hour long Shadow campaign when I have the Steam version RIGHT. THERE.
@@brovideogaming9447oh the generations port isn't something to be worried about, plenty of people have already played the Generations portion and it seems fine
I do believe they actually might use 2 separate game engines, 1 being the hedgehog engine used in the original sonic generations, 2 being a completely new engine used for the shadow campaign, prove me wrong if it's all in one tho.
But yeah, sonic generations, the exact same although I’m fine with it mainly because I don’t play sonic generations because I don’t have a PC. I have a PS3 and PS4.
It’s just a Port with some extra features. Had they actually remastered it by improving the textures and lighting it could’ve been on the Level of Shadow Generations. Even Worse is it looks slightly worse with the broken Grass in Green Hill and they removed the animation where Sonic Looks back at the Piranha Bot at the End of the Cave Grinding Section.
Upgrading the visuals on the level of Shadow Generations would've required them to move the game to a separate (incompatible) engine. Hence why Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations are literally two separate launchers in the game's files. To get the game looking like Shadow Generations would've put the game in remake territory. Which was far beyond the scope of this project.
I just realized that this game is … « Mario 3D World + Bowset fury » I mean by that they are both some remaster of an old game with another half BASED ON THE NEWEST GAME Clearly Shadow Generation is based on Sonic Frontiers a lot of elements looks like it And the Bowser Fury part is clearly inspired and based on Mario Odyssey
Im not sure if i would call it "false advertising" to call it a remaster because technically by upgrading to 4k and i assume also upgrading to HE2 they are making graphical enhancements (i mean with the twilight princess, windwaker and skyward sword hd version i didnt see anybody say they werent remaster) but sega is definitely wording it in a way where you could think theyve done more to the game than they actually did
well even then a remaster is more then just graphics. it also can improve gameplay and fix bugs. QOL stuff. we don't know if it does or is just a port. cuz that's just what it seems. it might make the game have more bugs and run worse. but anyway it is still false advertising. cuz they barely did anything. u can see it. usually a remaster looks better then it ever did before by making textures look better. while this just looks like how it does on pc. like obvi i'm not expecting it to be the best graphics ever but like. at least upgrade it enough to where we can see and agree it does look like one in the graphics department.
Yeah i agree, they didn't need to make sonic colors ultimate's unnecessary graphical change as an excuse to just port sonic generations with little to no graphical enhancement, i know the game itself still look very good to this day but a slight improvement in the lighting, the textures and models could make a huge difference basically i wanted for them to make the sonic generations part look like the shadow generations part because they look very odd together like this in a single package
Very excited to use the drop dash in the remaster. But with honesty they should have had the Shadow Generations Campaign as DLC for the original game. As the original version exists on the Xbox store
I think they could've done something like the legacy console editions of Minecraft where it has a button somewhere on the title screen/option screen saying you can upgrade to the newer version and go back to the older version
it is broken, though. not broken as in it looks bad, but broken as in the graphics are definitely as little dated for todays' standards and could use some fixing up here and there.
I also had the same feelings that the Sonic Generations portion wasn't really "remastered". But based on what we've seen (look at how Sonic controls, looks visually, the rings not having the silly Sonic Forces-onward animation), I get the feeling that Sonic Generations and "Shadow Generations" are using two separate versions of Hedgehog Engine, where Sonic Generations is using something closer to Hedgehog Engine 1 and Shadow Generations is using something closer to Hedgehog Engine 2 (which I believe Sonic Forces and Sonic Frontiers use, although Frontiers could be using a further-enhanced version). Sonic Colors used a modification of the Godot Engine I believe. That isn't justifying this "remaster" fiasco at all, SEGA shouldn't be inferring that is a remaster and you are absolutely correct imo, at least from what we've seen of the game. And I'm also not saying Sonic Generations should use the same engine as Shadow Generations, that would make it play entirely differently and it would become more than a remaster at that point as level design would need updated etc. There are probably _some_ limitations with the Sonic Generations engine, but SEGA could've absolutely done more. In short, I agree with your points that this is not a remaster. And part of the reason for the laziness, and part of the reason for the stark contrast in visual fidelity between the two games, is probably because they're using two different engines. If I wanted to be an optimist, I would say this is SEGA testing the waters for running Hedgehog Engine 1 on newer consoles and optimised for newer PC hardware (Sonic X Shadow Generations could be 64bit, I believe Sonic Generations is 32bit) in preparation for Sonic Unleashed (which was the debut Hedgehog Engine title). But I feel like SEGA just didn't bother doing anything with Sonic Generations because the engine appears to be visually mostly untouched. And fwiw my stake in this is on the PC side, so indeed the visuals here look pretty much identical to the Steam release.
Well obviously it looks better than how it did on 360 and PS3, I'm not arguing that at all. But looking at the direct footage from my own personal judgement, it looks no different from how a lot of people have been playing Generations for years now
@@SFproductions1 Well that's your judgement vs the testimony of everyone who's played the demo. Actually being there seeing it on the screen and playing it for yourself vs watching footage are two different things. I wouldn't be going around saying things like "SEGA's making empty promises" when that's blatantly not true. I agree it doesn't look much different from the trailers, but everyone who's gotten to play it has said it's noticeably nicer looking.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see then. I don't know how playing the game is gonna change my mind when we have directly captured footage from VGC to compare the two (which I show in the video to make a comparison) but fair enough
Yeah, i've also seen that ground in Green Hill Became more detailed, and Classic Sonic got slightly different quills, most visible while standing still
Although I feel generations looks good as it is, I would have liked to see some graphical improvements, even if that is just putting it in Hedgehog Engine 2 with enhanced lighting and models
This, every graphics mod I've seen on PC always over does it and makes the game end up looking worse imo, which is no disrespect to those who put time into making those mods or those who enjoy them but just adding a bunch of bloom and making everything shiny and reflective doesn't make the game look better magically. The original game had BRILLIANT art direction and visuals so even with an improved resolution and framerate it could only look so much better.
Personally, I thought the game was ahead of it's time when it originally released on older hardware. I thought the game looked beautiful graphically back then and I don't think it really needed much improvement, but that's just my opinion. I'm actually in awe of the animation that Shadow has in his story. The cinematics, the cutscenes, everything. They really took their time and added some really amazing animations in places that it didn't matter, but definitely adds just that little bit more detail and I love it. The follow-through after that power kick was so good and then Shadow falling back into the road and stumbling into a roll back onto his feet is absolutely 😚🤌 chefs kiss. And Shadow looks extremely detailed. You can see his quills and even where the red quills part from the black. It's so good. I still think Sonic running through white space seems very lifeless and stiff. The way he just runs and comes to a stop and just stands there is very awkward to me, but this notion of "Sonic fans aren't allowed to criticize sonic games because game development hard" is absolutely toxic and we need to stop it. Everyone is entitled to form their own opinion and discuss the things they dislike as much as the things they like about a game. As long we are all enjoying the game for what it is, who cares. You'll notice that despite the criticisms people have, no one is saying they hate the game or that it's a bad game. The general census is highly positive and we should be allowed to discuss the few nitpicks we have. We should be grateful that Sonic Team are one of the few devs that actually listen to us and use our feedback to improve whereas other game devs say "how dare you say our game is bad or broken. We worked hard on it and there's nothing we would ever change about it"
As a Sonic Generations PC Player that uses mods and enhancements I expected the game to look at least on par with the PC version with its modded improvements
well i mean there is one thing they could add back into the pc version that was left out "Unlockable Sonic 1 In the console versions of Sonic Generations, you could purchase an item in the Skill Shop called the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Controller to unlock the ability to play the original Sonic the Hedgehog. The PC version removes this entirely, leaving a blank spot in the HUB. However, files for it (such as the White World HUB song and shop icons) are still in the game. When playing the Xbox 360 version with FPS Boost on Xbox Series X|S, the Sonic 1 emulation runs very slowly, suggesting this was why it was removed from the PC version."
i don't think sonic games need to have crazy graphic fidelity. the point is to go fast, so the attention in development going towards gameplay feel and art direction rather than high res textures is completely fine to me. i don't need my sonic game to look like real life, i honestly prefer the cartoonish art direction, and the current graphical fidelity of the newer games is enough for me. good enough to be pleasing to the eye, and cartoonish enough to remind me that i am playing an arcade-style platformer. fair points though, and it was a great vid!
Honestly I don't really mind if the generations side looks much better or not, the game looks great and the new content is cool, though I agree that they shouldn't be advertising enhanced visuals for something that isn't really enhanced. However if this game does well I think it could show Sega how much we care about Shadow and want him in the games. Though yes it is perfectly fine to judge something for not reaching its full potential
@SFproductions1 Both of which I have. However, I still think it's neat for the people who don't have access to those versions. My main concern is how tf it's gonna run on Switch
@@kadenhorrocks7182THANK YOUUU everyone thinks they pcs grow on trees and assumeee every gamer has one that’s not the economy we live in sadly. I could see why someone would think in such a way if all their gamer friends are rich or high middle class to where they can comfortably afford a pc. I was broke for 3 weeks buying a ps5 😂
This really did need to be said. I didn't really notice any difference in the graphics at all from this "remaster" and the original release. I've never minded that, since the graphics never looked bad to begin with, but if you're gonna market the game as a remaster, then actually make it a remaster. They obviously have the capability of doing so, considering the Shadow side of the game, but they instead just, like you said, port the game and call it a day. Either remaster it or be honest with the fact that it's a port.
"enhanced visuals" is a resolution bump from the PS3/360 releases. Going from 720p to 4K (or 1080p in the case of the Switch, PS4 and Xbox One) is by all accounts, a "visual enhancement". So you can't really say "false advertisement". Like you said, Generations didn't need anything more than a resolution bump. And you got that. PC players aren't the only people playing Generations, and quite frankly, as much as they've kept Generations alive, they also don't even account for a quarter of the sales of the game. Even then, there are some more enhanced visuals in the HUD, some textures, and some of the ambient occlusion settings (something that wasn't even in the original game). It's not a lot, but there are definitely small improvements to the game visually. Is it enough to sell the package on it's own? Not at all. Which is why they didn't.
The only thing I'd personally want changed, even though I don't think I'm buying Gens for a 4th time, would be the weird lighting Green Hill has on Modern Sonic's skin. His skin gets greenish whenever you play in Green Hill for some reason.
Well, I know it's outdated by now, but point 2 wasn't as unlikely as you'd think, that was already the case for S3&K in Origins, the trailer footage was emulated and in 4:3, but yeah, it made more sense for that case and now we can see that gens is going to be the same
I think it comes down to engine differences. Generations is built on Hedgehog Engine 1, the same engine as Unleashed, and is much weaker compared to HE2, which is used for Forces, Frontiers, and you guessed it, Shadow Generations. While it I’m not too mad over it, I understand why some might be a bit disappointed. That being said, I prefer it being as close as possible to the original then trying to remaster it with HE2 and possibly screw up the feel and control.
1:30 at the beginning of one of the trailers it says it's footage from the PC version. Which probably means the normal Sonic Generations footage is from the original versions of the game.(I might be wrong that's just what I'm guessing)
I respect ur oppinion, and in no way will i harass you because of a video game but listen. I think the reason its not any different is because the Sonic generations portion is for the newcomers who didn't get the chance to play the original gens, while the Shadow generations portion is for the og fans to get them buy this game. But i do agree, saying enhanced visuals while theres barely anything enhanced is anything but sane
Yeah you see, if you already played the original, youll have to buy Sonic Generations again at full price, just so you can plat Shadow Generations. Sonic fans are so naive honestly, y'all deserved to be ripped off
I think people are so defensive of criticism in the sonic community because of how hard we were mocked for so long for liking sonic because of the trends a while back on youtube to just dog on sonic. Its no excuse for the behavior but its something to keep in mind
They still didn't fix the greenish lighting problem, its easy to tell in modern sonic green hill stage in shadows especially and sonics gloves and in between his quills.
You mean the bounce lighting? That’s not a bug or problem, maybe it’s exaggerated but at the time, most games didn’t simulate bounce lighting dynamically so they really leaned into it. It’s an extremely efficient alternative to roughly approximating the effect of ray traced GI on your character, and was able to run on the 360. It might be transmitting too much color in the light bounces but I think it looks fine tbh.
Honestly since the original style of Unleashed was to be based off of the renders, the only thing I think they would need to add to make the game look better is Ambient Occlusion (The soft shadowing in corners), as I tried Gens with Reshade AO and it made a really big difference. Also maybe some Subsurface Scattering so light can go through skin nicely, and full on PBR (This game was made before Metallic maps existed in games so there were only really Diffuse, Normal, and Specular maps)
I think the point of the remaster is to have It on next gen consoles for console owners, not everyone use a PC or mods to play games especially for a game that's been stuck on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for a decade, And I don't think it needs a graphical change when it's visuals still hold up to this day.
Not just PC, anybody with an xbox series X pops their 360 disc in and bam 4K60. If there is no upgrade beyond that as a huge sonic fan I simply will just not buy it and save my money.
I think the main reason they’re calling it a remaster is because it’s in hedgehog engine two, which has real time calculated lighting. Hedgehog engine one only had baked lighting. There’s a really good video called how hedgehog engine engine actually works, and it shows all of this. but I’m just speculating. maybe only the shadow part is hedgehog engine 2
Game dev here, It's insanely easy to bump the resolution of textures and materials (normal maps etc.). The hardest part is only if you don't have the source textures/materials and have to recreate them (which Sega/Sonic Team would have the textures on hand). Even then that would be the bare minimum to call it a remaster.
I swear sonic fans always try to stop people from having criticism like we’re the consumer we don’t have to justify our wants based on what sega will do we just say what we want and if sega does it then good
I didn’t like how the game ran on steam (Sonic Generations) so im glad for this port so i can properly play it without having to go through that configuration screed and not even load up the game
2:01 This right here is so annoying. Yea SF, you should stop complaining because we're getting new stuff, they say while ignoring the fact that this game isn't free and you will be spending your hard earned money on 2 games, where one of them has little to no improvements on performance. I never understood the harassment and anger people have towards offering simple criticism for a game that doesn't even live up to the promise of what is said it will do.
Nintendo and Sega. One usually puts lots of effort into their own games but hates when fans do anything interesting with them, and the other puts very little effort into their own games and lets the fans do all the work. Pick your poison.
The only thing I really wanted from a Generations "remaster" is more, newer sonic levels *(Windy Hill from Lost World, no sonic boom level ew, Studiopolis from Mania, Sunset Heights from Forces, Kronos Island from Frontiers, and Speed Jungle from Superstars, and I guess i could throw in Scrambled Shores from Dream Team if we're keeping the rule of 3 levels in 1 era, for the bosses it could be one of the Deadly Six or Infinite to cover the first three levels; probably Infinite since both Mania and Forces use the phantom ruby, and Giganto or one of the other bosses from Frontiers for the next three levels)*
I am a little worried about how this game will run on the switch, I hope it ain't another colors situation. But I also hope it runs well. Also I hope they don't just ai upscale the texatures or cutscenes for the game.
What’s terrible is that the cutscenes are still capped at 30 because the intro cutscene for egg dragoon at the start of the trailer is still in 30 so my only major issue with the pc version hasn’t even been fixed. There’s a code for it sure but only the first few cutscenes work and the rest are super glitchy
@@johnmehlman5195 no the base game runs at 60 always and if it doesn’t then idk because there’s no way my 750ti is better than a fcking ps5. But the cutscenes are capped at 30 even on pc where the frame rate is unlocked. And that one moment of generations gameplay that’s from a cutscene is in 30 fps. That worries me. The performance mode is for shadow generations
Hey did you know classic sonic's top quill is actually longer? I learned it from a sam procrastinates life stream, now I can never unsee this. And if you or anyone else sees this comment, then you will probably also never unsee it.
I agree with you, and when you said the part about how not wanting another Colors Ultimate situation is understandable, it’s like you were speaking directly to me because that’s how I felt.
While I would’ve loved it if they did more than just increase the resolution and frame rate, I’m still extremely happy this exists because it makes Generations accessible to people who don’t own a PC or a Xbox Series X.
things that would be good for a real "remaster": 1.Directx12 (2024) vs direct 3d 9ex (2011) 2. RayTracing (I wish, it would be interesting) 3. FSR 3.1 or DLSS 3.7 for more FPS (ideal for 120, 144, 165hz monitors). 4. new levels for classic and modern sonic in addition to the original base game (I'm happy even if they are the 3ds ones, I don't know maybe as extra levels in the "challenges" section although I don't see it very likely). 5. customization, like accessories or even modify the hud or the type of boost of sonic, it would be nice. 6.levels with all wisps (sonic colors)
I noticed there is graphic improvement some background assets like water in green hill have way more texture movements and so on making it look better yes it's not much but it is a difference from the 360 version
Hot take but im actually indifferent on the whole "updated visuals" things because at the end of the day, its still sonic generations. Heck ill be even more happy if the game will be able to run well on switch
I have a handful of issues with this release. One, I already have Generations (and love it) on PC, so I don't want to buy Generations again just to play the new Shadow segment. Two, what you mentioned in the video about not being a remaster. Three, it looks like the gameplay might be a little underwhelming (the boss fights looked kind of bland and empty). I'm more than willing to change my mind on this game if it ends up good but I don't think I should be labeled as wrong for having concerns over a franchise I adore
since I bought the original on Steam when it came out so long ago, I'm okay with it being largely untouched because of just how long the modding scene has been able to flex their skills and creativity with the game. Without a big engine update, those mods won't end up getting broken, so stuff like the Unleashed levels, updates to Classic Sonic's moveset, and countless others can still be experienced by PC gamers no matter if they bought the original (which is getting delisted) or not.
to be completely honest i personally don't care, the art style and approach of Gens is Unleashed meets other Sonic games and that just makes it for me, while I under your point and i actually agree, i think improving at least the illumination would've been enough (which yes, suffered a huge downgrade from unleashed when they noticed they were demanding TOO MUCH to the Hedgehog Engine that even made the fps die) But personally, I don't mind it too much
At least with that game the prior version couldn't be played on the switch in this case I can put the 360 disc right in my series X and get 4K60 if they don't improve lighting or textures in any way I'm just simply not going to get the game.
I think the most I’d want out of a Sonic Generations remaster is higher resolution textures. Even then, I’m not sure it would be noticeable given the speed with which you pass them by. I wouldn’t want them to change things like lighting or effects since they feel so intentionally designed in the original release.
remember when true remasters were like huge graphical upgrades, new character models and resolution upgrades ? Yeah well, with new technologies they just upgrade the HD and call it a day... a JOKE
People who actually played the game said that Generations actually looks really good. So take that as you will. And Generations OG still holds up really well, too.
Yeah the only reason we don't see the differences between the og gens and the gens remaster is because of youtube compressing the footage. Gamexplain mentions in their hands on preview that there was a noticeable difference/improvement in the fidelity, textures, and optimization from the remaster and the Xbox Series X port with the upscaling features you could use. Fidel also said that the game looks and runs as good if not better than og gens with every graphics/performance mod you can think of. TLDR youtube ruins the footage and it looks a lot better in person, we can chill.
@@SFproductions1 when an image get's compressed from a higher resolution to a lower one, it will lower the quality of the fidelity and textures a good amount. If you look at some of the frontiers screenshots, they don't look nearly as sharp as the actual game is for example.
That does make sense, but there are certain cases where I feel that the similarities are noticeable even in a compressed screenshot. Like this image from the website sonicxshadowgenerations.com/#sonic-media-13 the reflection is very VERY pixelated and I highly doubt that is a result of image compression as it is the only part of the image that is pixelated to that extent (not nitpicking this one tiny detail btw, just using it as an example)
I completely agree with the take on this video. From the announcement I have always thought that the shadow stuff is great, but I really dont want to pay £40 for the same game that came out 12 years ago, alongside what is essentially premium dlc. If the price was a little lower to either A: compensate for sonic side being the same decade old game, or B: actually improve visuals it wouldnt be so bad. However this does seem like a classic saga move
My expectation with the main game was it to just be the PC version but with updated controls and stability and this seems about right. I'm more into it for the Shadow portion
Glad to see that I am not the only one seeing it this way lol. I've always have had a bad feeling regarding SonicXShadow Generations and quite frankly, this even confirms it even more. I also would like to mention that they also took down the Sonic Generations Standalone on steam and put it in a bundle with Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Sonic 4 EP 1 & 2, Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D Blast where all I am thinking is "... but why..?". And I am sorry but... this doesn't even look like a "Nintendo Move" as many said. Nintendo ported Super Mario 3D World + added Bowsers Fury to it, sure but NEVER have they said that it's a remaster. SEGA advertized it as a remaster from the get-go, promised us improved visuals etc., and all I am seeing are not improved visuals, but just the same game ported from PS3 to PS4/PS5 or Xbox 360 to Xbox One/Series S/X. And they want us to pay 49.99$ for it or pay 59.99$ for the deluxe edition for a few extra bonuses + being able to play the game before release...? Way too overprized for what it is now. I am afraid that might just be another Sonic Colors, if not a Sonic Forces type of situation :/ Again, it's not to dump hate on the so called "Remaster". It's pointing out the obvious.
Returning to mention another thing that I saw multiple times today: SEGA has censored the hell out of this game and that for no reason. Sonic Generations had nothing that had to be censored and I am currently just asking myself "What the everliving hell was there to censor in a game in a USK 6 Game?!" (going off of the local age rating where I live btw) I wouldn't call it a remaster.. more of a demaster :|
I'm just glad I can finally play the Generations I wanted to play soon, stuck with 3DS not having any 3D controls until the final boss. Got a Switch Lite, played Frontiers with it, so it should be quite fun.
I said something similar on another video and people seemed to react negatively to it but imo the Sonic generations portion should have added more levels. A level from Sonic 3, Sonic CD, maybe even Sonic 4, Lost World, and Mania would have been a good addition for a $50 to $60 price tag. From what it sounds like the Shadow game will only have maybe 5 to 6 levels so adding more to Sonic would have been nice to help get value for the price.
You are completely valid for making this criticism, but I wouldn't say it's false advertising just yet since they have about four months to update any graphics or change anything else. I think it's more of them mainly focusing on Shadow Generations first and foremost to make sure it's the best it can be before worrying about Sonic Generations.
I feel like that they should have made a generations port to PS5/PS4 and Switch and then make the Shadow Portion its own game but I’m still excited for the full collection
So I 100% agree that updated textures would have been nice, but I also want to defend that they haven't done absolutely nothing. I can PLAY sonic generations remaster on my ultrawide monitor with the game giving proper options for windowed mode and such, where playing the original is a fight like no tomorrow to not have everything stretch to my entire screen CHUNGUS style, while this is a minor thing, I thought I would point it, that how the game is rendered is adjusted slightly. but outside of that, I assume we will quickly find some of the graphics enhancement texture packs ported to Sonic X shadows from the original generations. I can also low key suspect they kept the original game ... "original" to attempt to support mods for the original game, but that's just a wild theory. and updating textures could easily have been done I'm sure people would simply have updated their mod packs to fit.
We’re also looking at the early stuff so maybe they’ll actually go through with their word on making it higher res after they finish shadow’s part of the game
Differences between the Original and "Remasterer", The Bloom is slightly stronger then the Original, some areas are slightly Darker [Speed Highway / EGG Dragoon], Green Hill has uses a bit more FXXA/SMAA/TAA and Anistropic Filtering which causing the Grass to be more blury
As a PC gamer, this is basically my biggest gripe with the release of Sonic x Shadow Generations. Like, I already OWN Sonic Generations and it already looks good, and the SHADOW portions of the new game also looks good! But... I don't really want to buy the bas game again...? Could they really not release the Shadow portion as its own game and price it slightly cheaper? Heck it'd be wrong, but even if it was like £/$5 cheaper I'd bite a lot easier than knowing that I was forced to pay for a part that I didn't want/already owned. That'd be like if I wanted to buy a pokemon game I already owned with a little bit of the extra stuff and gamefreak forced me to pay for the same game agai-- oh.... nevermind........
Considering Shadow Generations is using an entirely different game engine from the original Sonic Generations, I assume that there will just be 2 different EXEs, 2 different file structures, etc. So, it would have been really nice to just be able to purchase Shadow Generations as its own thing on Steam. I'm not thrilled about buying literally the same game but with the Drop Dash modded in (which I can get from actual modders anyhow).
Step 1: change HUD
Step 2: call it "enchanced visuals"
Step 3: profit.
so true
they didn't even do that, the boost particles that fill the gauge are still broken since they play at 720p without scaling and don't actually reach the boost gauge (this is a problem in the original version too when played at any resolution higher than 720p)
@@CrashFan03 yeah. They confirmed the Gens remaster was rushed (not surprised) because they want to release the game this year, since it's "The year of Shadow".

It is being advertised at face value. Just because a customer's expectations don't match doesn't equal false advertisement.
@@Ang3LofSp4rKUh no, no it is not. A remaster entails some sort of noticeable graphical enhancements and various quality of life changes.

Just wanna put that out there, feel free to quote me on this if you want
That's how this game should have been advertised. An "enhanced port" would be a better description for sure!

I'm no modder but I am someone who are really familiar with Sonic 3d models, I do renders of them.
and while Sonic Gens "remaster" dosen't have any huge differences, I can say that it DOES have some if you look closely.
for example, the colors look so much brigther now, I honestly didn't liked how original gens looked at all, I've always thought it looked really "gray" in some way, but the remaster does look like it makes the colors brigther, I'd say they put a filter of more exposition, since in some parts, I did noticed some shadows are way more darker than before, so yeah, I can say there is a graphical difference but it's a little subtle if you don't pay close attention.
so maybe they did remastered it but not that much, I'd love to see a graphical encancement, specially for the cutscenes, but eh, it still looks good, I'd say even better than og generations
but that's just me.
I looked around a bit, it looks like that is due to them adding HDR support
When I saw the trailers i thought it looked slightly better but wasn't sure why, but thanks to your comment i can notice it now, thanks bro

Graphics side? I thought the Textures look the same because of TH-cam compression.
Nothing running on 4K ever looks that good On 1080p trailers
To me personally
I see a lot of people commenting stuff like this so I feel like breaking down a few things that should be understood.
1) "The graphics do look better, the shadows are more defined and the colors are richer."
What you're likely seeing is the result of Generations being on better hardware and making use of HDR which naturally has allowed colors in media to look more vibrant and in the case of dark detail really makes a difference in having it pop.
2) "It's a remaster, not a remake."
I see this point being thrown around and I feel while this is accurate, it also kind of misses what a remaster is.
👏👏

I just realized that this game is … « Mario 3D World + Bowset fury »
I mean by that they are both some remaster of an old game with another half BASED ON THE NEWEST GAME
Clearly Shadow Generation is based on Sonic Frontiers a lot of elements looks like it
And the Bowser Fury part is clearly inspired and based on Mario Odyssey
Ur so right
Except that no, Super Mario 3D World switch version ISN'T a remaster of the game, it's a port.
Im not sure if i would call it "false advertising" to call it a remaster because technically by upgrading to 4k and i assume also upgrading to HE2 they are making graphical enhancements (i mean with the twilight princess, windwaker and skyward sword hd version i didnt see anybody say they werent remaster) but sega is definitely wording it in a way where you could think theyve done more to the game than they actually did
Twilight Princess HD caught a lot of heat. There was even a running joke that the HD stood for “Hardly Different.”
well even then a remaster is more then just graphics. it also can improve gameplay and fix bugs. QOL stuff. we don't know if it does or is just a port. cuz that's just what it seems. it might make the game have more bugs and run worse. but anyway it is still false advertising. cuz they barely did anything. u can see it. usually a remaster looks better then it ever did before by making textures look better. while this just looks like how it does on pc. like obvi i'm not expecting it to be the best graphics ever but like. at least upgrade it enough to where we can see and agree it does look like one in the graphics department.
They really just wanted people to spend 50 dollars on a DLC, especially from those who already owned the original Sonic Generations

The more accurate thing to say here is that if you say you'll improve something, then do it.
it is broken, though. not broken as in it looks bad, but broken as in the graphics are definitely as little dated for todays' standards and could use some fixing up here and there.
3:00 - Wasn't the main problem with Colours Ultimate that Blind Squirrel had to almost completely remake the entire game in GODOT of all engines?
Bro I completely forgot about that.
Again, that was overcorrecting they didn't need to do that 😭
I also had the same feelings that the Sonic Generations portion wasn't really "remastered".
And fwiw my stake in this is on the PC side, so indeed the visuals here look pretty much identical to the Steam release.
slight correction: Hedgehog engine is a lighting engine it wouldn't affect the gameplay
Literally everyone who's played the demo has said it looks noticeably a lot better than it used to so I believe that
Well obviously it looks better than how it did on 360 and PS3, I'm not arguing that at all.

Although I feel generations looks good as it is, I would have liked to see some graphical improvements, even if that is just putting it in Hedgehog Engine 2 with enhanced lighting and models
Sonic generations had already aged like a fine wine imo so its hard to make it better
Hopefully new mods will come out for this version as well
well i mean there is one thing they could add back into the pc version that was left out
"Unlockable Sonic 1
In the console versions of Sonic Generations, you could purchase an item in the Skill Shop called the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Controller to unlock the ability to play the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
They already confirmed they weren't adding that back
@@SFproductions1LAAAAAME
I wouldn't count on that, there is some changes in Sonic Generations in visual sense, but it is mainly for saturation and contrast.
i don't think sonic games need to have crazy graphic fidelity. the point is to go fast, so the attention in development going towards gameplay feel and art direction rather than high res textures is completely fine to me. i don't need my sonic game to look like real life, i honestly prefer the cartoonish art direction, and the current graphical fidelity of the newer games is enough for me. good enough to be pleasing to the eye, and cartoonish enough to remind me that i am playing an arcade-style platformer. fair points though, and it was a great vid!
The resolution of the actual screen seems to be better, tho, so im glad they have that at least lmao
Well the game already ran at 4K on PC and Xbox so I really hope the remaster would at least have that
@SFproductions1
Both of which I have. However, I still think it's neat for the people who don't have access to those versions. My main concern is how tf it's gonna run on Switch
Fair enough lmao
Didn’t Fadel and other who played it said that they saw a noticeable increase in graphics?
I mean maybe they see something i dont because the direct footage we have from the demo and the stuff weve seen in trailers looks no different
The only thing I'd personally want changed, even though I don't think I'm buying Gens for a 4th time, would be the weird lighting Green Hill has on Modern Sonic's skin. His skin gets greenish whenever you play in Green Hill for some reason.
With that said, at least for PC do you think the Shadow sections will be available as a DLC?
Shadow Generations is a whole new game, it would be atleast 50
Well, I know it's outdated by now, but point 2 wasn't as unlikely as you'd think, that was already the case for S3&K in Origins, the trailer footage was emulated and in 4:3, but yeah, it made more sense for that case and now we can see that gens is going to be the same
True however unlike Generations, the origins trailer said that it was using Original Gameplay in the corner of the screen
Hedgehog engine is for lighting the games are built on what ever in house engine sega has or havok or somthing im not sure
Sonic fans are so naive honestly, y'all deserved to be ripped off
i'm honestly excited to play this, remaster or not, i never played the game, but now i will and nobody will ruin this experience for me.
I think people are so defensive of criticism in the sonic community because of how hard we were mocked for so long for liking sonic because of the trends a while back on youtube to just dog on sonic. Its no excuse for the behavior but its something to keep in mind
I’m just happy to get this peak of a game again
They still didn't fix the greenish lighting problem, its easy to tell in modern sonic green hill stage in shadows especially and sonics gloves and in between his quills.
You mean the bounce lighting? That’s not a bug or problem, maybe it’s exaggerated but at the time, most games didn’t simulate bounce lighting dynamically so they really leaned into it. It’s an extremely efficient alternative to roughly approximating the effect of ray traced GI on your character, and was able to run on the 360. It might be transmitting too much color in the light bounces but I think it looks fine tbh.
The graphics have been slightly improved and the colors are brighter. (That's about it)
Don’t Really Mind At Least we can play the game on the switch ❤
fair enough
Then that's a port, not a remaster
then.. why re-release it?
Not just PC, anybody with an xbox series X pops their 360 disc in and bam 4K60. If there is no upgrade beyond that as a huge sonic fan I simply will just not buy it and save my money.
@@ahumbledude757 it's been 14 years...
@@fnsonicrick most people don't have Xbox either.
They have a new one that you have to rescue the Chaos, and have an option to switch sides to Sonic to Shadow. And it has a new drop dash and etc!
Damn we really are sweating sonic fans right now
Especially when it comes to the 3rd Sonic Movie
I think the main reason they’re calling it a remaster is because it’s in hedgehog engine two, which has real time calculated lighting. Hedgehog engine one only had baked lighting. There’s a really good video called how hedgehog engine engine actually works, and it shows all of this. but I’m just speculating. maybe only the shadow part is hedgehog engine 2
Sonic Fans... Never happy.
Game dev here,
It's insanely easy to bump the resolution of textures and materials (normal maps etc.).
The hardest part is only if you don't have the source textures/materials and have to recreate them (which Sega/Sonic Team would have the textures on hand).
Even then that would be the bare minimum to call it a remaster.
If moving it to HE2 fixes the softlock and crash issues, I'm all in
Also I don't necessarily believe the trailers used 2011 footage, but a lot of game journalists are doing this
Given their history with remaster and re-releases. Them doing nothing to it visually is better then making them look worse
Bro turned into gigachad 💀
I hope they they Remaster the Sonic Unleashed
2:01 This right here is so annoying. Yea SF, you should stop complaining because we're getting new stuff, they say while ignoring the fact that this game isn't free and you will be spending your hard earned money on 2 games, where one of them has little to no improvements on performance. I never understood the harassment and anger people have towards offering simple criticism for a game that doesn't even live up to the promise of what is said it will do.
This
they really could'a just taken the gosh darn frontiers textures and been like "copy, paste" and this video probably wouldn't have been made
Nintendo and Sega.
The Shadow portion will probably look and run like Sonic Frontiers on Switch.
The performance mode is for shadow generations
it looks so graphically graphical, i love how the stage doesn't proper load at some points IN THE TRAILER
Hey did you know classic sonic's top quill is actually longer? I learned it from a sam procrastinates life stream, now I can never unsee this. And if you or anyone else sees this comment, then you will probably also never unsee it.
I remember Fadel saying the Sonic Generations remaster looks way better in-person than on YT due to compression. I hope he's right
I agree with you, and when you said the part about how not wanting another Colors Ultimate situation is understandable, it’s like you were speaking directly to me because that’s how I felt.
While I would’ve loved it if they did more than just increase the resolution and frame rate, I’m still extremely happy this exists because it makes Generations accessible to people who don’t own a PC or a Xbox Series X.
things that would be good for a real "remaster":
1.Directx12 (2024) vs direct 3d 9ex (2011)
2. RayTracing (I wish, it would be interesting)
It might be a trailer thing. Like how when they announced GTA V on ps4 and Xbox one, people said it looked the same.
Without a big engine update, those mods won't end up getting broken, so stuff like the Unleashed levels, updates to Classic Sonic's moveset, and countless others can still be experienced by PC gamers no matter if they bought the original (which is getting delisted) or not.
to be completely honest i personally don't care, the art style and approach of Gens is Unleashed meets other Sonic games and that just makes it for me, while I under your point and i actually agree, i think improving at least the illumination would've been enough (which yes, suffered a huge downgrade from unleashed when they noticed they were demanding TOO MUCH to the Hedgehog Engine that even made the fps die)
But personally, I don't mind it too much
This really feels like Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury situation.
An FHD version of an HD game included with an entirely new game.
At least with that game the prior version couldn't be played on the switch in this case I can put the 360 disc right in my series X and get 4K60 if they don't improve lighting or textures in any way I'm just simply not going to get the game.
@@fnsonicrickCan't play it on PS5 tho
I think the most I’d want out of a Sonic Generations remaster is higher resolution textures. Even then, I’m not sure it would be noticeable given the speed with which you pass them by. I wouldn’t want them to change things like lighting or effects since they feel so intentionally designed in the original release.
Tbh as long as is doesn’t break the original gameplay it’s good
remember when true remasters were like huge graphical upgrades, new character models and resolution upgrades ?
If that's the case, then why do the official screenshots look the same as well?
@@SFproductions1 the screenshots are taken at 4K rez but they get compressed to at most 1080p before they put the screenshots on the websites.
@@Tfprime84 that's interesting but I'm still failing to see how that would really make a difference?
@@SFproductions1 when an image get's compressed from a higher resolution to a lower one, it will lower the quality of the fidelity and textures a good amount. If you look at some of the frontiers screenshots, they don't look nearly as sharp as the actual game is for example.
That does make sense, but there are certain cases where I feel that the similarities are noticeable even in a compressed screenshot. Like this image from the website sonicxshadowgenerations.com/#sonic-media-13
the reflection is very VERY pixelated and I highly doubt that is a result of image compression as it is the only part of the image that is pixelated to that extent
(not nitpicking this one tiny detail btw, just using it as an example)
I am afraid that might just be another Sonic Colors, if not a Sonic Forces type of situation :/
Again, it's not to dump hate on the so called "Remaster". It's pointing out the obvious.
Returning to mention another thing that I saw multiple times today:
SEGA has censored the hell out of this game and that for no reason. Sonic Generations had nothing that had to be censored and I am currently just asking myself "What the everliving hell was there to censor in a game in a USK 6 Game?!" (going off of the local age rating where I live btw)
I wouldn't call it a remaster.. more of a demaster :|
I think they're keeping the resolution low on purpose to avoid some bugs especially when it comes to the switch or low end pcs
I honestly don't know
Tbh, I’m glad they didn’t change how the game looks
I don’t want another Sonic Colors Ultimate
*Ultrashit
