4:32 actually the developers of sonic boom weren’t told it was a Nintendo exclusive until around 8-9 months before its release date, making the devs rush to port it onto a new engine. It was actually supposed to be high quality with amazing graphics for the newer consoles, but once they were told it was a Wii U exclusive, they rushed to lower the quality a lot. This was probably a big reason Sonic boom turned out the way it did. Good job sega!
Sonic Frontiers is named "Sonic Rangers" internally, according to the name of the game's .acf sound archive file. This title also appeared in the metadata of the game's first teaser, and in a SEGA press release on May 27th, 2021.
@FanYTXP Kishimoto said it was a canceled Sonic game before the open world idea. He said the game changed but they never bothered changing the code name
Glad to see Sonic Rose not specifically mentioned, because that WAS real, though not very signifigant. It was more of an internal (and semi-internal) survey-stage code name for Sonic Frontiers, and as such a certain list of possible features. The issue there is that at such stage it's so much just spit-balling that everythng is subject to change. But people get weirdly religious about a word, like it's the True Name of a dargon and these people are inhaling too much Ursula Le Guin. Sort of like people unironically say Metroid Dread was "picked back up again" and now it's a game 15 years in development. When literally it's just a word they figured "well, still as fine a name as ever". Games will literally be named ANYTHING that marketing things will sell, it's about as meaningful as the color of the box.
The 'telltale' pitch is more of the style of old adventure games like Monkey Island, Sam and Max Hit the Road, and others. They're slower paced games more focused on dialogue and item management, but they're not bad games because of it.
The 4chan leaks on Sonic Frontiers were true 75% of the time, they even got sage and sonic's friends returning right, the only fumble was that the story was gonna be _way_ darker than it ended hp being (Smth about sonic living in a simulation and finding out that in the end)
Shadow 05 actually didn’t flop that badly, it made at least 2.06 million, it sold under expectations but it didn’t sell poorly, just not good enough to greenlight a sequel

Sonic Dimensions was my idea for a Sonic game. But it had a different story and some of Boom Sonic's abilities because of Tails' new device Sonic uses in Dimensions.
I remember the Sonic Dimensions one really annoying me, not only because there was no concrete evidence to support it, but at the time I remember reading multiple articles of people badmouthing Sonic games, most notably Sonic's friends by calling them "unimaginative, poorly thought out recolours of Sonic!" Yet this was apparently a game that literally had actual recolours of Sonic and people were getting excited for it? I'd personally take any of Sonic's friends as playable characters over that! It not only sounded boring, but like the Werehogs and the Wisps before it, it just sounded like a cheap alternative to keep the "Sonic's stupid friends" crowd happy! I also remember back when Project Needlemouse was first announced. Not only were fans convinced that it was going to be the "long awaited" Sonic 4, they were convinced that it was going to bring back Sonic's older design, and it was going to serve as a complete retcon of every Sonic game from Sonic Adventure onwards, but many fans were also 100% convinced that it was going to be a launch game for a brand upcoming new Sega console. Rumours surrounding a project at Sega called "the Ring Edge" or something was apparently "proof" of that! And boy, did these whiney fan boys throw the mother of all hissy fits when only thing that turned out to be true was the title! And it honestly feels like Sega's over reliance on Classic Sonic and nostalgia is Sega's way of overcompensating for all of the whiney complaints people had about that game.
*Honestly, the only one of these that got me was about Sonic being in Smash Bros Melee.* You have no idea the disappointment I had in my heart when I found out it wasn't true... after trying for hours 😅
I am honestly a bit saddened by how much harder it is to get away with gaming urban legends these days. Stuff like finding Mew under the truck in the original Pokemon games or being able to unlock Shadow in Sonic Advance. These old urban legends may have been total BS most of the time, but it was a lot harder to fact check them and so they inspired the imagination and gave gaming as a whole a much more magical feel where anything might be possible. That magic is largely gone now. Fake leaks are much more easily debunked and fake rumors about games already out are even more easily debunked by dataminers and completionists. It's a positive in that there's less deception going around that anyone is getting away with, but I also see it as a negative in that the magic behind games is disappearing and they're becoming little more in our minds than just lines of code. Even stuff like glitches used to be a lot more fun. These days glitches are heavily more frowned upon and less tolerated, largely because of shoddy AAA releases. The only glitches anyone even likes anymore are the ones with speedrun strat potential, and even those rarely survive update patches.
back in 2021 i was 12, and i was so desperate to see a new sonic 3D game to be announced, i remember vividly seeing a lot of sonic youtubers covering the leaks and giving their thoughts about it. when the first sonic frontiers teaser was revealed, i thought the game would be called "Sonic Zap" because of that symbol that is all around the map in frontiers that appeared in the end of the teaser, and that looked like it was written "Zap" on it. thanks god that wasn't the name of the game bc it's not a very good title, but i just remember being so hyped for it i didn't even care. when the gameplay was revealed, i remember starting to get worried about the quality of frontiers, but i was still very hopeful until the actual release. i just played the game last year because my family is very poor financially, but i had an absolute blast playing the game after all that pre-release hype. got to be one of my favorite sonic games :)
Shadow The Hedgehog didn't 'flop', it sold well enough to get a Greatest Hits release. You can say you didn't like the game but that's not the same as 'the game flopped' no it sold decently well. People just like to bash it as they hate fun.
You want to know a funny thing? Most of the poor reviews seemed to come from the bad PS2 port. The one that wasn't (that is linked at Wikipedia) barely goes indepth about the game at all.
These are interesting, and I like that they test how much people will believe. Though, I'm glad this stuff is taken with a grain of salt as it should be. It's good to know what's outlandish and what's realistic.

I remember when the original teaser for Sonic Frontiers came out, there was a popular hoax that the game was called "Sonic Rangers" and was gonna see Sonic dimension hopping and such. I actually believed that for a time, not too long but for a time.

Great video man! Even if we΄re talking about scenarios that were never meant to be it is always fun to dive into the "what if" ! Speaking of "what ifs" would it be easy for you to make a video on the hidden ending of Sonic 06? I am aware that the achievement which implied the said ending is earned by S ranking the last story, however i am sure everyone would love to have more insight on this mystery!
Thank you my man! It really is! There is this achievement called "Nights of Kronos" the description of which might say something about unlocking the complete ending to the last hidden story. Since the day of release though until today of course this trophy is literally unlocked just by s ranking the end of the world. I should point out the "might say" i used earlier. I think the description varies among the copies of the game.
