Unity would've been a MUCH better choice technologically speaking, though why would they pay a license for a quick 3D menu when they already got a powerful 3D engine they don't have to pay a license for? 15fps.

    You have to understand they are already severely limiting games like Frontiers with the Switch in mind. That's why every version of the game has horrifically hard coded pop in, that you can only partly resolve on PC. The only way to make games run really great on Switch is to build separate games for it. And we don't want to go back to that era of Sonic. Things will get a bit better when the Switch 2 comes out. It's not SEGA's fault that the Switch is significantly weaker 2 and a half generations behind in power.

    Keep in mind the casual player won’t think “ OH THIS GAME IS A SLIGHTLY FPS DOWNGRADE “ most don’t care, they play the switch to have fun, not because it’s BAD, when someone plays frontiers on switch 90% of people won’t complain about the fps downgrade, you don’t even notice UNLESS you compare it side by side with another version but why the fuck would you do that?

      I'm a switch user for most of these games. And legit the only one I really think was worth mentioning was Frontiers. And that's only because the looks just that much worse on Switch than any of the other ports. I have arguablybhad a better time with these versions of the games though since, even though the graphics took a slight hit, the switch controls honestly feel very responsive and smooth. And honestly, when it comes to games like Forces specifically, that's a plus for me since I mostly don't enjoy the game due to the bad physics and controls. So yeah, I'd say for even more die-hard Sonic fans like myself, the only thing that would have been worth bring up would have been Frontiers, as it's the most relevant to what he's talking about. Everything else is just kind of nit picks.

    • @judahfalls7704
      @judahfalls7704 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      It is to save on the Switch tax. By removing the CGI cutscene, they can use a much smaller card with a lower Switch tax, then they can sell the game cheaper. They could have put it in a patch but they obviously didn't see the point in taking away space from the switch for it.

    • @GenerationZ313
      @GenerationZ313 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I find their reasoning for not having it absurd, especially since Team Sonic Racing was included in a physical double pack that also included Sonic Mania on the same cartridge. I mean, they also could've just patched the game to include it as well, not to mention the digital release wouldn't have this problem, so it just sounds like they weren't willing to go the extra way to add something so trivial.

    Before I got a Series X, the Switch port of Sonic Frontiers was how I first experienced that game. And despite the lower quality graphics and lower framerate, I didn’t really mind it. I even ended up putting a lot of hours into the game and often found myself playing the it in handheld mode a lot. The game being locked to 30fps doesn’t really bother me either. When the machine is below moving left to right and you run left to right too, the frames get very choppy. Though I think it may only happen if you have a shield active at the same time which also increases the activity going on.

    I think you didn't give enough credit to Team Sonic Racing, sure being only 30 fps is a bummer, but Allstars Transformed was also 30 fps on consoles and that's how most people played the game. I think you should've praised more the port cause it's honestly amazing how graphically it looks the same as the PS4 version, most multiplat games on Switch have some more downgrades in textures and lighting even if you cut the framerate in half, but this port hardly any graphically different from the PS4 and it runs at 900p docked and full 720p handheld, it's awesome really.

    Sonic Mania is actually less blurry on Switch than on most other platforms, since the display scales evenly up to the tablet's 720p screen, as opposed to the uneven 1080p of other consoles which induces slight blur even with the filter set to none. This can be remedied by playing on a 1440p or 4K display, which are both 2x and 3x 720p respectively.

    Despite the technical issues coming from being ported to Switch, these versions still end up performing the best sales-wise out of all the console versions. It’s been clear ever since the series went third party in 2001, that a large portion of Sonic’s core audience are Nintendo console owners, which is why Sega is gonna keep making Sonic games for the Switch onwards.

      Yeah, Sonic there's plenty of proof that Sonic games sell better on Nintendo consoles, and it's kind of ironic because it's the only major SEGA franchise that gets regular releases on Nintendo consoles, it took a long while for mainline Persona games to arrive on Nintendo, and just a couple of weeks ago Yakuza: Kiwami was released on Nintendo's hybrid console, the first Yakuza game since the WiiU port of Yakuza 1+2. But when it comes to Sonic, SEGA cannot ignore Nintendo
      The main problem is that modern Sonic games are still developed with major consoles in mind find, I don't know if it would be better for Sonic Team to develop these games with the Switch as the base console, but then there would be people complaining that the games are limiting their scope by the Switch

    The pop-in and repeating textures in Frontiers are an issue (and a big one at that), but i think the textures are quite justifiable in the open zones, as they are massive open worlds with lots of things going on, so if you wanted high quality textures you'd need Colors Ultimate loading times, probably even more. The fps never went below 29 for me, and i beat that game to almost 100% completion (i just need some collectibles and S ranks)

    To be honest a lot of these games didnt need compromises. A lot of them was compromised for no reason. Im pretty sure Sonic Forces, Colors (a freaking Wii game), and Superstars should have been better! But Sega confirmed in a interview with GameExplain they developed Sonic X Shadow Generations for PlayStation 5 first which they been developing for PlayStation first this whole time which is a big mistake give the only Sonic game out sell their Switch Version was Sonic Frontiers (only because it LOOKED like a Triple A), not for being Sonic. Most the Generation long Switch Sonic games been out selling their more graphical versions. So my question is why didnt Sega develop first for Switch to make sure Nintendo Sonic fans, their biggest audience had a great experience dispite power? Looking at Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxer PlayStation is not the main audience for Sonic. Heck i don't see Astro Bot selling that well.

    So, a lesser known thing, (and note I dont get my Sonic games on other consoles so maybe it applies to them) is at least on Nintendo Switch, Sonic games don't use the Home button the way most games.
    Most games will stop everything when you press it, but Sonic games (and some others) don't do that. Instead, they'll just use the in-game pause function when available (which is a good bandaid solution). A good way to notice, go to the home menu at a main menu, and when you press Home again, and the music doesn't resume. You're at a later part of music.
